Talking animals cartoons isn’t considered a turtle rip off. Warner Bros, Disney, Hanna Barbara had the TMNT beat by decades. Many of the activities the toons do were products popular at the time like skateboarding. Many of your honorable mentions should have been on the list.
But many of their properties weren't part of the toy-selling, cool culture that TMNT is famously known for. Guys like Touche Turtle and Hong Kong Phooey existed in their own previous time in a separate element
The only difference between Ninja Turtles and Pizza Cats is where the merchandise was sold. Pizza Cats merchandise (which included an NES game) was only relegated to Japan under the anime's original name "Kyatto Ninden Teyandee".

Street Sharks was a fun series too. I would like to throw Extreme Dinosaurs into the mix. That was great, and deserved way more than just a little nod from the Street Sharks entry.
I want to say Gargoyles should be on the list, because even tho they weren't animals, they were anthropomorphic creatures with unique names who defended New York and the world with the help of their attractive human female friend. Minus the food item that kids also like, that's the Ninja Turtles' formula to the tee. . .but Gargoyles was so damn good that it feels blasphemous to even say that
They put Stone Protectors on here and mentioned Toxic Avengers, so they have no excuse at all. 100% should have been on there, and at #1. Also Gargoyles are animals, just like humans are animals. Gargoyles are also anthropogenic animals, just not concretely based off any single established real life animal (you could maybe argue pterasaurs, but it's a stretch)
in Mexico the Avengers Penguins got airtime one episode a week in a really early time. Also, being a country with up to a 2 hour gap. It means that where I live people who watched it had to be up in saturday morning around 4am I think. I only heard about it later. I wonder if the revival of the Biker mice gave it a clear ending for the plot of the series. It's actually the only reason I would go back and re-watch it
Really? Wow! I didn't know that. Just to ask, have you ever had some taped recordings back in the day or no? Just curious since I'm in the US. Plus I like to hear your story about Avenger Penguins in Mexico.
@@dragonstarplanet I'm sorry, man, I don't have any recordings of that. @@lamontyaboy718 Exactly. Case in point, X men coming after Doom Patrol and sharing quite a few similarities.
they were knockoffs, it doesnt necessarily mean that they were bad, but they definitely had a similar theme to TMNT in one way or another.
They forgot Extreme Dinosaurs.
Inspired would have been a better word
SWAT Kats and Biker Mice from Mars were my damn jam as a kid.
Oh hell yes! 🤘 Mine from this list was Biker mice and Street sharks.
Most definitely. Watched them as a young adult. I still enjoy cartoons at 51.
I'm the same age as both of those shows. Along with Stone Protectors & Avengers Penguins!!!
I love Swat Kats
Biker Mice from Mars was a good enough show, but the SNES racing game actually still plays pretty well today!

you think that's good? play the Turtles in Time game, and watch masterful gaming in action

Swat Kats was quite possibly the greatest action cartoon of the 90s! Also Mighty Ducks and Bucky O'Hare are so underrated.
Indeed, the Ducks are criminally underrated. Didn't even get many VHS releases, and not one DVD

SWAT KATS was awesome.
I will always love Swat Kats.
Toxic crusaders was my fav even though it wasn’t exactly a ripoff as it was made by the same company’s but it was a team of mutants 🤷♀️
Biker Mice From Mars is my favorite. 💙

Don’t you EVER disrespect Biker mice from Mars ever in your life ever again, it was an amazing show
I know. I was instantly peeved when it was reduced to a mere rip-off. It's an awesome show that still has a great and super loyal fanbase.
I agree. They don't look like TMNT ripoff to me, because of the story plot and such. What's original is that they ride Motorcycles to fight bad guys with weapons and such. As a kid, I loved the action figure commercials. They rock!
