And to add to that last point. If you finish the game with Donatello, you get to see him with the machine while Michaelangelo dances in his power up saying "Party Dude" referencing the original song. The intro song also playing at the beginning of each game, yet unique at the same time.
I,of course, spotted the homage to not just the Turtles In Time game but to the SNES itself. Flinging your opponent toward the screen is from the original Turtles In Time game but it also was a reference to "mode 7", the SNES's ability to simulate 3D in it's graphics which was one of the selling points of the system.
@@SantiagoY3569 - Splinter is supposed to hate pizza, too, but it's inconsistent. There have been several instances in the series where April and Splinter are seen enjoying pizza alongside the Turtles.
This game can be beat within two hours, having six characters on screens popping off special after special is seizure inducing, I started falling asleep towards the ends of arcade mode, mindlessly mashing buttons, drifting and being awaken by the GO! alert. 10/10 Game of the Year A masterpiece. As a TMNT fan and someone who played Turtles in Time on the SNES for hours on ends as a kid, this game brought a tear to my eyes. I loved every second of it.
Tossing Foot Soldiers at Chrome Dome is also a reference to Turtles in Time. Moboy's mentioning this but the tigers (the white one) on the zoo level reminded me of the Nes version of the Arcade game. You got a special stage there where white tigers attack you
in the NES version (TMNT II) its a normal level where you encounter them. Level 6-1 I believe. You only fight two tigers I believe but they are notoriously difficult to destroy. Their hitbox is only the head, hitting any other part of their body deals you damage, and they always run across the screen. On top of that, the hitbox is just low enough that hitting them with a special is incredibly tricky to do. And they have a ton of health too.
2:47 April wasn't disgusted by pizza in that episode. She was disgusted by THEIR pizza (the turtles were known to put gross toppings on their pizzas back then).
I always laughed at the idea that her choices were pizza with bizarre toppings or a rat handing her raw fish in a sewer and she says “I guess I can hold out till we get up to the street.” Haha
the thing people don't think about is that Usagi would involve some extra hurdles as he's owned by another company...we've been lucky with his repeated appearances in the animated shows, and I do hope it's possible to work something out for him to get added as a DLC character in Shredder's Revenge, but we're probably more likely to see freaking Venus De Milo or the 5th turtle from the IDW comics ( I know she exists but I haven't read any of those comics so I have no clue what her name is or anything ) than Usagi
Michelangelo's jumping super attack is straight out of the first episode of the '87 series (Turtle Tracks). When they're first fighting the Foot on the rooftop and they find out the Foot soldiers are robots he whips off his trench coat and says "Robots?! Let's rock!" and does that same move.
Mikey was a walking Easter Egg. He had a Liu Kang style bicycle kick, his taunt animation was the dance he did at the end of the song ("Party Dude"), and he's got a dash-attack animation where he pulls into his shell and spins ... like he does *after* the dance party bit, PLUS a Chun-Li style head stomp.
The intro part of the music that plays in the the very first stage (Channel 6 HQ) is a homage to the Channel 6 theme found in Turtles in Time. There's also a reference to the theme from the 2nd stage in Double Dragon.
Michaelangelo’s sprint-slide has him spin on his shell doing a multi-hit stun, just like his shell spin in April’s apartment when the Foot Clan ambushed Raphael.
You didn't mention that Splinter's special is from his opening seen in the 1987 intro from the line "Splinter taught them to be ninja teens (he's a radical rat!)..." That was a great nod for me seeing as he is my favorite character!
If you revive someone while playing as April in multiplayer, she will say "You have my support." This is a reference to a line she says in the first NES TMNT game
During the Super Shredder fight, the clock in the back says 3 AM. Mikey’s taunt is him his introduction moment in the animated intro where he dances before spinning away on his back (which is also in the game). Splinter’s special is also based on the intro when Donatello says “he’s a radical rat.” When Raph revives someone with pizza, he says “Hey, get a grip!” which he also says in the intro. When he dies, he says “Gimme a break” as he does during his intro. Donatello says “Shellshocked” as was the common “dead” line in previous games
I was so happy when I first heard April say “you have my support” after reviving someone. I kinda wish they would’ve leaned more heavily into the Konami TMNT universe than the ‘87 cartoon. They were never quite the same in the original games. Konami couldn’t just get the original VAs and didn’t necessarily design the environments or Turtles to be perfectly on model with the show. It’s difficult to explain, but it’s like the Konami brand of TMNT is just its own thing and it is actually much easier to go back to than the ‘87 cartoon itself
Fun fact: There was a line of turtles that could change back and forth from regular turtle to ninja turtle, transformers style. Donatello's version has bo staves that could convert to pogo sticks. Nice Easter egg, IMO.
As Andre The Black Nerd pointed out, there's a place in the Coney Island stage where you have to blow up giant balloons of the Punk Frogs, and it's actually a reference to the balloon blowing minigame from... The original Simpsons arcade game that was very much made as a copycat of the original TMNT arcade game. Oh yeah, and there's the little detain that the final battles are fought in Manhattan under a... red sky. That may be one many Turtles fans didn't WANT to remember.
The fact they got the original voice actors from the show makes me feel like im 8 years old again! OG Turtle 🐢 power for life! And now all 4 voice actors are coming to Emerald City ComicCon!
Talking about the Turtles 80's poses in the last entry, when you beat the game as Donatello his ending screen is a recreated shot of his pose with his machine from the 80's opening,
Why don’t you actually show clips of comparisons for the games and characters referenced. Is this just lazy editing or something ? Even smaller channels do it.
Not only is there a Big Apple 3PM stage as a nod to Turtles in Time but the final battle takes place in Times Square at 3 AM as you can see from the clock in the background…
1. April says "You have my support" - this is a reference to the original NES game 2. Casey's last move of combo where he uses a golf club is a nod to when he did that move from the first film against Tatsu
It would have been cool if It would have been if tokar and Rahzar where boss characters. Also would have been cool if you could have played as Mona Lisa
My favorite easter egh was an 80s/90s TV reference you missed was April's co-anchor. They made him look just like the dad on Full House, Danny Tanner, who was a local TV News anchor on Full House. But an even cooler, funnier layer they added to it... The actor who played Danny Tanner, Bob Saget, had another big TV gig irl, being the host of America's Funniest Home Videos. And in the level where you're at the TV news studio, there's a studio set next to the news studio that looks just like the set of America's Funniest Home Videos when Bob Saget used to host it (for many years). Goodnight, Michelle.
Awesome video. The only Easter Egg I noticed that was missing from your list is the top view map, which I'm positive is a reference to the top view map from TMNT on NES.
Mikey has an attack where he spins on his shell which is seen in his dance moves in the original cartoon opening. All turtles can also use the side slam attacks from "Turtles in Time." April can use this attack as well and she will pause to take a picture of the fallen Foot Solider on the last slam. Finally, the Statue of Liberty, which Shredder stole in "Turtles in Time" is stolen again. Only this time, Kraag powers up the Statue with tech to create a boss fight.
There's another nice little easter egg: In Chapter 4 (Rumble at The Zoo) there are two black-and-white parrots, which are definitely a nod to the Mirage TMNT comic books.
I like the truck beepbop and rocksteady ride in from TMNT 3 (nes), the foot soliders in the cars from TMNT 2 (arcade/nes), and other level cues referencing previous games.
Big Apple, 3 pm - not the only callback to Turtles in Time’s first stage. If you check the background on the last fight, you’ll see the where and when is Big Apple, 3 am.
My favorite part of this game was when a foot soldier was just walking with his tray of food and I rushed him and threw him to the screen. I could almost hear him say “yo, wtf” lol
Yeah there's a lot Easter eggs you forgot to mention here... 1. Tommy the Green Ranger entry 90s You can't miss it -> Ep8 the music that plays in the skies before battling Wingnut. 2. Metal 80s Heavy Rock Music from Ep10 A few screws loose, is heavily from metallic 80s anime like transformers, terminator and 80s slasher dome hits. 3. Enemy colored sprites, definitely used from Double Dragon IV of the enemy sprites That come in colors and difficulty. Tmnt IV Had that color idea but didn't have the idea for adding it like difficulty to enemy sprites Like DD IV had done before. 4. DLC wait is that Dr Cunningham from tmnt 2003 series? Yeah that definitely brings back alot of great moments for sure But I'm sure you can find the rest of the hidden Easter eggs from there on.
Raphael says "Give me a break" when he's KOed. A reference to his introduction from the 80s cartoon. The final battle takes place on the streets of New York. There is a clock that reads 3AM in the background. Another homage to Big Apple 3 AM. I guess that also means the whole game takes place over the course of about 12 hours. The Bebop and Rocksteady fight on the rooftop stage: the two can charge into each other and stun themselves like in some previous games.
Without watching this video. When I first saw Mikey do his super move animation and instantly noticed where it was from. I got a smile on my face. This game is a tribute to the ninja turtles.
- April's spinning jump-kick is a literal copy from Lucia's special in Final Fight 3 (also a Capcom game). - references to TMNT IV... you missed mentioning the actual biggest reference to In Time: the Chrome Dome fight has almost the same mechanics as the first Shredder fight in TMNTIV, where you need to throw foot soldiers at the screen to damage him

1 callback you forgot was if one of the Turtles gets defeated (I forget which one) he says "aww, shell shocked!" That is a callback to Turtles In Time on SNES.
Actually, Mikey's headbutt goes all the way back to the TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project on the NES where I'm almost positive it was a move for either Mikey or Raph.
Donatello has a reference to animated series intro too. When you finish a game with Donatello he will be shown with exactly the same machine from the animated series intro.
They put Burne Thompson's girlfriend from the original series running out of the Channel 6 building in the first level! At that moment I knew these game developers were fans and I was in for a good time!
Don't know if i'm late to the party but at the beginning of "Jaw Breaking News" there's a crowd of people running out of the building while Shredder is laughing. One of them is a young blonde woman looking into the camera as she's running out. She was Berne Thompson's girlfriend for one episode and she disliked turtles.
There's an Easter egg to the original comics that you missed. In episode 10 ( A Few Screws Loose) there's a shop in the background with the name 'Second Time Around' which is the same name as the thrift store owned by April in the O.G comics
I would have thought Mojo would skip the 2ND Big Apple 3AM reference because it's a heavy spoiler, but than they literally showed the final stage that blatantly shows it but didn't mention it. The final battle takes place in Times Square at 0300 (or 3AM) as in BIG APPLE 3AM.
I did a whole video on the different easter eggs in this game that I saw. My favorite is Splinter's super where he's clawing is similar to his appearance in the intro where he breaks a bunch of boards.

Michelangelos taunt and slide attack are also from the original 1987 TV series intro where he dances and spins away on the back of his shell
Fantastic game. Beat it with my 11 year old son. Now I can't wait to play the Cowabunga Collection with him.
Cool 😎 I'm waiting for that game as well
Same here 🐢🐢🐢🐢
Shredders revenge is amazing but let's not forget the greatest of Streets of Rage 4
Did I tell you I defeted Bebop and rocksteady as Donatello
They put Burne Thompson's girlfriend from the original series running out of the Channel 6 building in the first level! At that moment I knew these game developers were fans and I was in for a good time!
Don't know if i'm late to the party but at the beginning of "Jaw Breaking News" there's a crowd of people running out of the building while Shredder is laughing. One of them is a young blonde woman looking into the camera as she's running out. She was Berne Thompson's girlfriend for one episode and she disliked turtles.
To be fair, the turtles' pizza in that episode had like ice cream and stuff on it
There's an Easter egg to the original comics that you missed.
And you totally missed one too! Splinter's super move is kind of like the move he does in the old show's theme song!
Re the Sushi: both April and Splinter say the opposite when they pick that item up! I can't recall if they get a bigger boost from it though.
The last fight scene in the big apple is set at 3am. Nice
Also, as a shoutout to many Konami games, the elevator from hell sequence , where you fight Traag in this case
Tribute Games be living up to their name
It would be neat if April, Splinter, and Usagi get bonus powers by eating sushi.
I did a whole video on the different easter eggs in this game that I saw. My favorite is Splinter's super where he's clawing is similar to his appearance in the intro where he breaks a bunch of boards.
Tokka and Rahzar are in the Secret of the Ooze
If you beat Metalhead as Donatello, he says “Don’t worry. I’ll repair you”
I ordered the physical copy from Limited Run on PS4. But in the meantime, I’m playing it on GamePass. Glad this is cross-platform!!
tokka and razar appear in nearly every 80's era tmnt game
Don's 87 intro is actually noted in his story ending...
True nostalgia, but also, what about the Mortal Kombat reference where Mikey does Liu Kang's bicycle kick
