As weird as it sounds to see kids turn into digimon compared to the rest of the series, their forms are still some of the coolest and one of my fave seasons overall

That was my favorite season of Digimon, season 4 if I remember correctly.
That one is a favorite series of mine, it allowed the digidestined to take the fight straight to the villains who always employ crazy/unique designs!
In a way, it felt quite natural to me considering how the final Digivolutions in Tamers were the Bio-Merge between the human Tamers and their partner-Digimon.
I really enjoyed Frontier, and I think that the choice of omitting the presence of partner-Digimon really helped make the relationships amongst the Chosen Children much more fleshed out and more central to the narrative.

You know, Digimon Frontier isn’t the first time humans turned into Digimon. Let’s not forget Biomerge Digivolution in Tamers. Yeah, they fuse with their Digimon partners to achieve this but still….

After playing Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, I can easily tell you that ALL the digivolution line is bat shit insane!

That's why I loved it! I could have Gotsumon and end up with Dianamon or Terriermon and end up with Angewomon.
Evolution in other Digimon media, contrary to the anime, revolve more around Branching evolution than linear progression. So there could be an Agumon in the digital world that just so happened to evolve into a birdramon with the right Data absorbed in his Digicore.
Digimon have no linear evolution line, like Pokemon. They have many different ways to digivolve. It's like a big tree with many branches. That is what makes Digimon so much interesting and fun to play/watch ❤️
Yeah it mostly depends on which data they are collecting there environment and if they have Digi partner sich path they choose it doesn't give a right or wrong
Pokemon evolution is linear though...
Even with the Pokemon with separate evolutions, it's going to be the same every time when it does evolve. A Nincada won't evolve into a completely new Pokemon outside of Silcoon and Cascoon.
@@RevenantZavier What they meant was that Digimon Evolution isn't Linear like Pokemon's evolution is. While there are Evolution trees that can be seen as "Definitive", Digimon evolution operates on it's own logic, and Unlike Pokemon, Digimon isn't one way (Since they can revert back to prior stages at any time).

The Armor Evolutions are explainable; They take the characteristics of the first generation and applies them with the themes of the second generation. So Shurimon being a plant type is because it took the characteristics of Palmon's evolution and applied them to Hawkmon's samurai theme
I thought its quite obvious. since the whole evolution sequence show palmon's (plant) line and biyomon's (bird) line

That carries over in the CD only Armor Digivolutions like when V-Mon used the Digiegg of Hope (TK's egg) to digivolve into Saggitarimon.
It's still a bit odd though. For some armor evolutions not much changes and you can recognize the original form. But with ones like Shurimon and Submarimon; the characteristics of the 1st gen takes over pretty much.
Falcomon, as bird of prey, evolves intoPeckmon, a secretarybird, which is a mostly terrestrial bird of prey.
So that Actually makes completely sense
And let's not forget, Falcomon's entire line follows a ninja aspect. The entire line (for me, at least) makes perfect sense.

Actually frontier does make sense because Humans aren't organic in the digital world, everybody is made up of 1s and 0s as we saw in Apocalymon battle and Tamers being able to fuse with their partners but not being able to on Earth without Dobermon.
So as we all know of this concept its not so farfetched the children being able to merge with their spirits by scanning their data just as Takato does to himself.
I agree. It has always been stated that, in the Digital World, humans are made of data, like every Digimon. LordKnightmon inclusive wondered if humans would turn into Digi-Eggs if he took their code.

Digievolution is exactly that, the evolution of a digital life form, their evolutions are not based on their aperance, but rather the method of evolution, it can be using the digivices, getting stronger throug trainning, digimetals, digispirits, and other, there are MULTIPLE branches on digievolution, thats why agumon can either evolve to WarGreymon or BlitzGreymon

Gatomon's and Patamon's line makes sense in the lore. Split evolutions have always been a thing.
Only thing that's always thrown me off is Gatomon being at a Champion level.

@@kb4231 Gatomon was clearly designed to be a rookie and Angewomon was a female counterpart to Angemon. I feel like they just didn't have enough time to create a more natural evolution for Angewomon at that point since she got introduced rather late in the season. So they made Gatomon champion and called it a day.
I like small high level Digimon like Gatomon being a champion and Marineangemon being a Mega.
Small cute and kick ass. I like it.
So when a human merges with their Digimon partner, you don't bat an eye, but when one season over humans gain the ability to convert a data code into power turning them to Digimon themselves, you wanna get all nitpicky. Ain't that some shit?

@@ProphetMisfit09 My only gripe is how 2/3 of the main cast basically get sidelined for most of the latter half of the series. That and how they didn't get any new team members to represent Wood, Steel, Water and Earth, but not like that would have mattered with the sidelining of everyone not named Takuya and Koji in the show's latter half, but still.

To be fair, Frontier's dub doesn't refer to it as digivolution at all, just spirit evolution. There was no 'digi' mentioned anywhere.

It follows the exact same concept just different evolution.
One is fusing with a physical partner via scanning themselves
And the other is like possession by said spirit for those with weak wills as we saw with Goblinmon touching the Beast Fire spirit.

Angewomon to magnadramon is taking on biblical aspects in how higher class angels could change forms and how specifically the serephim class angels sometimes showed up as dragons
Further cemented with Holyangemon becoming Goddramon.
Actually The tailmon line makes more sense that you would think. They are the representation of divine figures through mythology, so:
A dog (plotmon)
A cat (tailmon)
An Angel (angewomon)
And a Dragon (holydramon)
the dragon makes even more sense when you understand the jodeo christian hiarchy of angelic beings and what a seraphim actually is sometimes referred as.
the same can be said for godramon
Gatomon's entire digivolution line is just one big head scratcher for WatchMojo.
They should see BlackGatomon’s and Mikemon’s.
I think that digivolution line is a bit of a headscratcher for most people, to be honest
while i get that its werid for gatomon and back ....moving forward it makes more sense.
the reason most poeple (including watchmojo) that are confused at why magna angimon and angewomon would turn into a dragon is because they likely understand the context of the sorce material they are inspired from.
angemon,magna angemon,angewomon,magnadramon and godramon are all inspired from the biblical seraphim.
(just like seraphimon)
the highest order of angelic spirits whose name shares a synonymous meaning with "fiery serpent" in scripture. and thus they are sometimes personified as such.(dont know about you but when i think"fiary limbed winged serpant ,the term "dragon" usually comes to mind) this is also why all these digimon have at least six wings if not more.

Magnadramon makes sense for Gatomon. Ophanimon and Mastemon makes sense for Angewomon.

The DNA digivolution of Ankylomon and Angemon into Shakkoumon
. Sure, the Angemon parts are kinda there, but where are the Ankylomon parts?
I always thought it’s armour was the Ankylomon parts, since his shell was his defence.

i dont care if it makes sense(it does), its still one of the ugliest things i have ever seen. to this day i dont get why they simply didnt fuse angemon with tailmon instead. that would feel far more natural and actually make sense thematically as well.
The last one was a stretch as anyone how goes to the Digital World canonically becomes digital, and the various Spirit Evolutions are akin to Power Ranger outfits, minus the fact that there physical age and build changes after the hole process.
Edited: Further proof of them still be humans in costumes is that even in the Beast spirit forms, they still have very human-like builds, the only ones that are questionable are the bipedal beast spirits, even then you could see where the human would be to have that stature.
Also Greymon and Garurumon to Omegamon/Omnimon is not as far a stretch if you remember that Warp Evolutions that can make a Digimon skip stages of Evolution, and this can, and has occurred with a Jogres/DNA Evolution happening simultaneously, as well as times when Evolutions have occurred have not been shown happening, even when it is in the same fight. Since we haven't even seen their Mega levels or Ultimate at the time, skipping over the Evolution scenes that not only take up a few minutes of airing time and have been canonically been show to take only an a mere moment of in universe time, they wouldn't want to show off the Evolution scenes of the two Digimon going from Champion, to Ultimate, to Mega near the beginning of the series.
On top of the fact that the arms of Omegamon are more like head effigies of Metalgarurumon and Wargreymon, with one depictions of the Evolution to Omegamon having almost ethereal heads of the two Megas flying around before forming Omegamon.

The show even brings up that the children are data and can be destroyed and absorbed like how digimon can. It's not that much of stretch for a human made of data to be rewritten into a digimon using the spirits.

Ive always hated that ophanimon isnt gatomons primary mega form, that NEVER made sense to me.
She has options!
And I find some joy in seeing people get mad over ophanimon not being her main mega.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Ophanimon, I just find it silly that people get so angry over Holydramon being used first.

This is why I love Digimon, their evolution didnt bound to their previous form and it just make sense because they're "Digital Monster", thus their evolution doesnt need to inherit their previous form
Yeah Digivolutions are more like, a vague web than a straightline like in Pokemon
And then, even some Pokémon evolutions defy logic too. I mean, how can quadrupedaled cat like Torracat evolve into something as different as Incineroar? Or, even worse, Remoraid, a fish, into Octillery, an octopus. That just doesn't make sense in the lest, does it?

That's literally not even accurate; Whamon is an ultimate level in Digimon World 2, so Zudomon can't actually turn into him, becoming either MarineAngemon or Pleisomon instead
I remember when Digimon used to be as popular as Pokemon
It is really popular in Japan top ten in views and surpassing Pokémon in the ratings but not the game Pokémon number 1 in that. But the tri series brought it back and the new adventure series and movie.

As a kid, I was always confused as to why Patomon and Gatomon evolved into LITERAL ANGELS.
What about Armadillomon digivolving into Submarimon? I thought that would have at least got an honorable mention.
Think about it this way, the Armor Evolution is based on the Crest used by Joe and his partner Gomamon, an aquatic type digimon. So the Armor took the aquatic themes of Gomamon's evolution and applied them to Armadillomon, thus you get a submarine because it blends the natural armor of Armadillomon & the aquatic nature of Gomamon

i dont think he is complaining about its design, but why it happened. in other words, the second series it happened because of the armor evolutions. but there's no such thing in the reboot.
It’s kind of difficult to even keep up with all the different Digivolutions that are out there. They can branch off just like with Pokémon, but way more complicated.
I think that's part of why digimon didn't have the same kind of popularity pokemon had. It made some stuff needlessly complicated.

@@theonewhoismany8072 Generally speaking, the digital world, at least when described in Digimon media I've seen, is either derivative of our world, or runs parallel to our world. Humans not understanding is typically not a matter of the digital world being "higher", just massively foreign in many concepts humans are used to.

In the Anime Fantasy setting it is actually a higher plane of existence to ours that transcends our own to such a level that our multiverse(infinite) would not be able to support the existence of the Digital World. In Xros Wars(manga)wich uses it as well our whole multiverse is but a single zone of the Digital World. The Digital World is so massive that it both encompasses our own and even if we would use our multiverse itself as a processing resource it would be impossible to process it.
The Digital World itself has higher realities that transcends it as well and that see it as a lower plane of existence like it sees our multiverse as one and these are the Infinite Cauldron,the Infinity Mountain wich has 100 self contained dimensions each higher than the last(in Decode you receive the 3 and 6 dimensional reality in the lower floors,as you go up you receive the 12 dimensional reality and on top of infinity mountain you receive the 24 dimensional reality) the top being the Kernel that transcends everything that came before it. Mirei even says that the digital world has infinite topology in Decode. Meaning it is infinitely dimensional.
And transcending even the Kernel and seeing it as a lower plane of existence like it sees the Digital World that sees the human world as one is the World of the Eaters a hyperdimension that transcends the Kernel.
Our world was literally created by Demiurge from the primordial digital world. And the origin of soul is tied to neoplatonism wich says that the physical world is not as real or true as timeless, absolute, unchangeable ideas. According to this theory, ideas in this sense, often capitalized and translated as "Ideas" or "Forms", are the non-physical essences of all things, of which objects and matter in the physical world are merely imitations. We and our realm are just pale imitations merely shadows of the Digital World wich is a refference to the perfect world of forms and ideas in neoplatonism. The Digimon are literally our "other selves" the missing part of our souls.

If you had investigated a little, you would know that Digimon evolutions are based on their upbringing and the type of data, for example Angewomon evolves into Holydramon when her data Beast predominates, while it evolves into Ophanimon when her Holy data predominates.

I love that you are talking about the reboot and how some things make no sense because I didn't think anyone noticed or cared but me. Not saying you dislike the reboot just pointing out flaws.
Being a big fan of Digimon with one for a profile, I feel I've got to leave a comment. It would certainly seems odd looking at this objectively, but in the show it's not as distracting. It's like watching "The Yellow Submarine" you make more sense of the what compared to the how.
I don't care if it's the number one spot. Digimon Frontier is my favorite. I'm 27 and I still go back and watch that entire series. It had a bit of a dark story arc between Koji (Lobomon) and his twin brother Koichi (Duskmon/Loweemon). Which was interesting to me.
I guess the logic is that computer-based biology doesn't have to make organic biological sense, the same way natural language is not the same as computer language but it still counted as a foreign language in some circles for academic purposes.
At this point in time we’ve just grown to accept these digivolution as they are. Even as egregious as they can be. Personally I didn’t find much of an issue with Patamon becoming Pegasusmon even in the reboot. The only issue I have with it is how fucking colossal he is in the reboot compared to his debut
in all of digimon, there's only 1 case that has been a headscratcher for me. the wtf vase/statue creepy fcker that came from angemon fusion. serioulsy, who looked at that design and thought "yes, let make angemon into that."
now i know it has religious significance in japan and other asian countries. doesnt change the fact it looks atrocious. as a side note, why not fuse angemon with tailmon? that would make far more sense and deliver something far better than the ones we got.
Actually Pegasusmon has more in common with its previous form, than the others on the list. They have the same colour sheme, wings and somehow a similar form.
But yeah its Digimon, what can I say.
Digimon evolutionary lines are crazy and weird, but that doesn’t mean they look pure awesome. But Opossumon to Chohakkaimon is still the strangest.
Soooo... Its been shown in the anime several times that digimon can skip stages and go directly into other ones. Omnimon shouldn't be on this list.

The whole concept of kids turning into Digimon was the reason I never watched Digimon Frontier. In fact there are a few other shows were the second series on up were slightly different from the first series that I didn’t bother watching.
You should see Frontier, it's really good. I loved the concept, think how much cool would be to transform into a Digimon? At least that's my opinion.
But kids fusioning with digimon to become mega level digimon is ok don't hate on Forntier at least not all of it give tamers some of it that cuz they did humans becoming digimon first

Thanks to the Ghost Game, we now have winner of weird evolution and that is Pucchiemon to Meicrackmon Vicious mode.
There is many reasons why digimon evolutions actually makes sense even though they don't look like it, let me say:
digimons are made from data, which is easily changeable.
the digimons can retain some data of their prior forms, for exemple angewomon to holydramon makes more sense with the data of tailmon.
digimon doesn't have the same classification of species that us humans do, it may look strange that dog evolves into a cat for us, but in digimon it is just a mammal/beast digimon evolving into another mammal/beast digimon, that's the same for falcomon to peckmon, it just a ninja bird evolving into another ninja bird.
digimons can gains and loses characteristcs when they evolve.
digimon works with branching evolutions, and that lead to various things, first, majoraty of designs are not completely made for a specifc digimon, so this digimon can come from many different digimons and evolve into many other different digimons, and second, many reasons can influence in what a digimon will evolve, like the enviroment that they lives, for exemple an agumon can evolve into a sheelmon if he lives near the sea, they don't evolve just by themselves.
and you can't judge a evolution just by aesthetics, but also conceptually.
and finnaly
in the reboot greymon and garurumon just warp evolved into omegamon, just like the first season
armor digimons can come from natural evolutions, this is said in official information
and when a human is in the digital world, they are also made from data, so they can evolve in some
specific cases

This actually one things about the franchise that I love and the tcg emphasizes it. The forms they take is dependent on data not inherently specific to it’s species.
Why not include bio-merging if spirit evolution was on the table?

The data they take in,the enviroment they are exposed to,the experiences they go through and the mental state of their tamers,because (and this is not well known even in the fanbase) the digimon are the "other self" and missing piece of the soul of their partners,influence how they evolve.
But tailmon makes sense if you look at it as being formed by holy beings in different cultures, right?
I like how Gatomon is on this list 3x. It really shows how much we question this evolution line.
Wargreymon was a surprise because of his rear hanging out of the armor . And exveemon because his front lower half just looks so suggestive at times 😒

I think it's actually more weird that Gatomon digivolves into Angewoman then Angewoman digivolving to a dragon. Gatomon's entire line revolves around holy beasts.

@@theonewhoismany8072 My point is Gatomon/Tailmon is a Holy Beast Digimon line. Holy Beast Digimon are different then Angels like Patamon's line. Angewoman is the odd one out being that Salmon(dog) -> Gatomon(cat) -> Angewomon(angel) -> Magnadramon (Dragon). What I mean is her entire line BUT Angewomon is Holy Beast so Magnadramon seems more like her proper evolution rather then Ophanimon and Angewomon by herself may not have been thought out properly. This is Digimon though and split evolutions are pretty common.

Digimon Frontier was the most confusing one in my opinion.
Both gatomon and Patamon are holy digemon specially gatomon who has a holy ring which is a mark of a holy digemon but if they lose the ring the loss their holyness that also how some Devi and lady Devi mon are born

I love Holydramon, but she definitely has nothing to do with Angewomon. Ophanimon is a better digievolution for her. Hell, even Lilithmon makes more sense. hahahaha
Personally, I'd take angewoman out to replace her with some other holy animal form. She is the only humanoid in the whole line so she never fit.
I know that others have pointed this out in the past, but if anything, Angewomon is the odd one out in this digivolution line, seeing as she's the only one that's more humanoid rather than animalistic. I dont really get why people think that some evelutions dont make sense.
Digimon can turn in to completly different things when they evolve. That is simply somthing they can. That does not make any less sense then Agumon being able to shoot fire out of his mouth.
I know a dragon species from another cartoon that can freely shape shift in all kinds if different things. Insects, birds, stone golems ect. Simply an abillty the writers have asigned to thise Dragons.
On that note Gatomons evelution line does not make any less sense to me then Agumons.

I like the spirit evolution. It makes more sense to me personally. But I always like animes that go outside the norm while not being over the top. Like G Gundam. It makes more sense for the fighter to actually pilot the gundam with their own body. How can you possibly make all the complex moves by just sitting down and pushing a few buttons when your hands are on a wheel the whole time?
Angewomon going to Magnadramon actually makes sense if you look into the origin. Some sources claim Seraphim, the highest Angel Class, are actually Serpentine Dragons with several wings, As many Angels in The Bible are not the Blonde Winged Dudes but fearsome creatures with eyes and multiple heads like Zenon in Devilman or the Genzo in Maju Sensen/Magical Beast Front.

Bassicly you have 2 cats, 2 dogs (since wolves & dogs are same) & 2 holy beings (angel & sphynx)
But the dramon in the name indicates that it is indeed a dragon.

Humans turning into Digimon might have been weird but I think it would be a great new feature for the Pokemon series. Think about it after trainers have their Pokemon battle they can turn into Pokemon for a final showdown.

i still defend that magnadramon was originaly supposed to be angemon+tailmon(gatomon) fusion evolution, but they changed their mind(and its at around the time they also dropped the romance between tk and kairi). it was probably the same dude who thought it was a good idea to pair sora with matt, 2 characters who barely interacted with each other.
