How the hell does cutting down a wholly unique, historic, and sacred tree accomplish any kind of protest against the logging industry? The loggers hadn't touched the tree for the centuries that commercial logging had been happening in Canada. That idiot just did WORSE than the logging guys did. And, worse, by felling that tree, he effectively opened up the whole surrounding area to even more logging, since I'm sure the tree's status was a measure of defense for the whole area.
Donald Currey was attempting to take a core sample from Prometheus when the extremely expensive equipment he had been loaned became stuck. The ranger gave him permission and assistance in felling the tree, at which point the rings were counted and the record-setting age of the tree was determined. Currey was so devastated about his accidentally destruction of such a venerable tree that he switched fields from forestry to geology. He went on to become a prominent figure in the field of geology, but the felling of Prometheus haunted him. He even once literally ran away from an interviewer who tried to broach the subject. Donald Curry had no malicious intent with regard to his involvement with Prometheus.

I can't help but be angry and at the same time realize thar most of us take part in destroying this planet every day without caring. Out of sight, out of mind. How many of us have gone to things like Mount Rushmore and been this angry. It is basically humans destroying a nature yet we see it as something else now. One natural wonder that was ruined by morons that I know personally about is right in my town: the Devil’s Chair of Taylors Falls, MN. It was a rock formation that was worn over time by the elements into a chair shape that came to be known as the Devil’s Chair. It was a great tourist attraction and was always featured on the cover of the city’s brochure. Unfortunately, it suffered a similar fate as the Duckbill, when a bunch of idiot teenagers climbed up to the rock formation and pushed the Devil’s Chair off the ledge and it tumbled down the cliff, shattering to pieces on the river bank far below. 😡
I'm disappointed they didn't mention Morning Glory Pool at Yellowstone National Park. I'm grateful that I saw it when it was still beautiful , when I was a child in the 60s. I particularly remembered it was so enchantingly beautiful, just like a morning glory flower that grew wild near my home on the Gulf Coast of Texas. But it was destroyed by tourists constantly throwing trash in it.
At some point we added so many safety labels and protective features to everything, these people stopped dying off. A couple generations later and stupidity has become a trait of the species. It's one of the largest failings of humans ever. Idiocracy wasn't supposed to be a documentary.
And then a lot of em end up in jail after being forced to pay a buttload of money in fines for what they destroyed regardless of refusal or excuse. Or get ridiculed online.
As long as those whose intelligence leaves much to desire prove a point by desecrating natural wonders, including and Joshua Tree National Park and Stonehenge, there’s no hope for a brighter future.
Maybe people wouldn’t feel so brazen if any of these people faced any actual consequences. Close off all these areas to tourists. Nobody deserves the privilege of seeing such beautiful places.
It gets even worse for the Parasol Islands. The Chinese military is dredging and filling in reefs and atolls to create artificial islands for military bases.
Not really fair to the rest of the population that is appreciative and respectful of these areas. Simply put: consequences should be applied to those causing the damage, not applying the punishment to the population as a whole.

Everest is very affected by climbers. Less intentional, & more use. I would be devastated to affect place by accident, IDKH anyone destroys sacred/special places internationally. In Ut a couple wrote on ancient hieroglyphs, & refused to when told, so the other tourists, took a video & reported it. IDKH much it prevents, but these places are irreplaceable, & anything done to protect or punish destructive people. It'd be good if they could be banned from important sites, but impossible.
