Also, try using arrowroot rather than cornstarch, as this gives more clarity and less cloudiness.
No, not an original Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. Requires Kirschwasser, can be sprayed on the slices later if your want to select if someone has alcohol or not. If the recipe doesn't call for a lightly sweetened dark chocolate cake that has soaked up kirsch liqueur, it's not a black forest gateau, it's just a chocolate cake with cherries. A good black forest cake/gateau has a cake and cream that aren't really sweet. The sweetness comes from the cherries and the cherry liqueur/syrup that permeate the cake. Otherwise it's just sugar on sugar on sugar that's only good for a couple of bites, and then just makes you feel sick.

victoriarose it's not to make the cake moist, the kirshwasser is primarily for flavor ... many people make it non alcoholic though so it would be fine without the kirshwasser as well. Traditionally , we use the Kirsch wasser though.
Although butter and oil are both fats, they work differently in baked goods. Butter has more flavour and richness, but it will affect the texture and moistness of the cake. Chocolate cakes turn out better with oil instead of butter. Give it a shot with oil before substituting butter in!

What if the syrup on the cake layers is not there. A good moist, soft and fluffy chocolate with thick frosting with that layer of cherry, sure enough you can take this cake to another level. Those who still want to use the syrup or rum or brandy or even wine can go ahead do it and then apply the frosting.

I think this one is more of a classic recipe. I have tried to translate it into English, so I hope it is understandable. For the dough, mix 200g flour, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, 50g sugar, 1 sachet vanilla sugar and 100g butter. Pour the dough onto the bottom of a 28cm round baking tin and press apart - do not raise the edges! Bake in the preheated oven at 160°C for approx. 15 minutes. Then increase the temperature to 175°C. For the sponge mixture, beat 8 egg whites until stiff and set aside. Then whisk together 8 egg yolks, 180 g sugar and 1 sachet vanilla sugar until you have a creamy "soft" mixture. Add 2 pinches of cinnamon and 6 drops of bitter almond oil to the egg and cream mixture. Now stir the beaten egg whites into the cream mixture very carefully, otherwise the mixture will collapse. Now fold 220 g flour, 20 g cocoa powder and 3 tsp baking powder into the cream (do not stir). Pour this batter into a greased 28cm round baking tin. Bake in the preheated oven at 175°C for approx. 30 minutes (test with a stick). Leave to cool and cut twice. For the filling, drain the morello cherries, reserving the juice. Bring the cherry juice to the boil and thicken with 5-6 tbsp. flour, 3 tbsp. sugar and 5-6 tbsp. cherry brandy to make a firm mixture (add more flour or cherry brandy if necessary). Put 12 cherries on the side for decoration. Then stir in the remaining cherries and leave to cool. Whip 4 cups of cream with 4-5 tbsp of icing sugar (divide the cream into portions so that there is enough for everything - if there is still not enough for the decoration, you can whip another cup). Then proceed as follows: Place the dough at the bottom and spread a layer of cherries (you can use a little more than for the other bases), then spread a layer of cream. The cream must not turn red from the cherries, but must remain separate from them. Then place the first sponge cake layer on top and cover it with cherries and cream like the kneaded dough, repeat the same twice. Then decorate the cake with the rest of the cream. Spread cream all around, both on top and on the edges. Then pipe 12 dots of cream with the piping bag and place a cherry on top of each one. Finally, sprinkle the cake with chocolate shavings.

Mistake 1: you didn't beat the eggs, usually the beaten eggs are the main thing holding the cake up and making if fluffy. Mistake 2: are you trying to give us diabetes? at that rate you could just as well just eat sugar. Mistake 3: Oil has NO place in this cake, sorry mate. Mistake 4: too few eggs. Try at least 1-2 more. Mistake 5: Milk. Again, not something that is in the traditional cake, certainly not in these quantities (we're talking a few spoonful in some recipes) Mistake 6: crumbling one layer. Nitpick 1: Most of the times these oldentimes cakes are baked in one piece, then cut apart into layers. It takes a bit of practice so baking them apart is perfectly acceptable, but still. Nitpick 2: Not using a crumbly cake floor. Older recipes generally call for one. Nitpick 3: Putting some candied orange in the dough makes it much better.

You can but if you need to trim your cake this would be a great way to use that excess, and why not mix it with shredded chocolate

It’s here on YT, just type in “original Black Forest cake. Baking with Aya has a good one but there are other original German ones.
100% the best part of black forest cake is the contrast between bitterness and fruitiness, flavors which sugar should complement not mask!
Mayby it's not a traditional German recept, but taste of cake is wonderful. I' ve done this cake and enjoyed my result!
