  • Wilderness camping adventure with my dog. Episode #4. For 68 days and 700km we travel through the difficult, remote and rugged wilderness of Newfoundland, Canada. It's survival in every sense of the word other than the fact that we live primarily on carried rations. We do catch many fish for extra calories later in the trip. We are often many miles from civilization.

I am hoping for a minimum of 8 episodes from this expedition. This is something that Saku and I have put a lot of blood, sweat, tears and time into. We hope you enjoy the series.
BACKSTORY: In the Spring of 2017 I embarked on a 700km snowshoe, Alpacka raft, backpacking expedition across the harsh yet magical Newfoundland interior wilderness. I was solo as a human but far from alone. By my side from start to finish was my loyal Cape Shore Water Dog, Saku. We went through thick and thin together in order to travel across some of the least explored wilderness regions of our province. We encountered frequent wildlife while battling desolate barrens, thick bush, mountain ranges, storms, sub-zero temperatures, raging whitewater, massive lakes, the Atlantic Ocean and monster trout. Often we were days of man-power travel away from civilization. It was a big challenge and an unforgettable blessing.
Newfoundland is the island portion of the province "Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada"
We have A LOT of unoccupied land and endless outdoor opportunities. The interior of the island is largely uninhabited. What exists is primarily remote wilderness. That is where our trip took place. From the western side of the island we traversed for the most part trackless woods and waters to reach the eastern end of the province. I documented the entire journey by camera and that is what I will share with you here on my channel.

Here is 80 year old Mrs. David Macci. The love of my life died 8 month ago after 58 years together and he would have so loved accompanying you across Newfoundland. Justin, on my cross-over from Europe with the Lloyd Berlin in 1961 a hurricane drifted us so close to the cost of Newfoundland I could see the coast with my bare eyes. 20 years later, this time flying back to the States from a visit we did an emergency landing in Newfoundland.....I think I was meant to visit! Now through you I finally got the chance! I love your series and can't wait for EP.5 ! Thank you and Saku ....what beautiful wide open land with the most gorgeous sunsets! I love how you fly your flag at all places you two camp for the night. It shows the pride you have for your wonderful homeland. I am a fan for sure! Please give that curly-haired four-legged boy a kiss from me. I fall in love with him. :)

I really appreciate that you didn't edit out the fall out of pride. A lot might have done so. But that is the real world and when you're alone, it can be deadly serious. Thank you for showing us what happened and how you dealt with it.

I'm a pitbull, I hate the cold and would rather lay on the couch all day, but I love the show and I'm going to name my next pup Saku.

In 1969 I hitchiked,( sneeking out the back window of my parent's house the last day of junior year of high school,) to Alaska, from the Bay Area(Calif.) by way of Prince Rupert, then a ferry Ketchikan...Watching your videos from a small farm in France, not over the hill by a long shot, but still 67, your simple, honest approach and love of your dog, is a constant joy, after chores, during this lockdown, where(lucky to live in the country,) we still can't even stop by the village cafe to see the fellows. Your adventures kind of bring back many things...Thank you so much....rr Normandy, France

The bear sightings are absolutely incredible. Can’t believe all the encounters you’ve had with with animals and mother nature so far. Enjoyed the hell out of this episode and I can’t wait for the next one.

I’ve spent some time in this area with Hydro and flown over it in helicopter, and every time I’ve thought to myself how hard it would be to cross by land, with all the ponds, brooks and bogs. I’m enjoying every episode even more than the last, and I can’t wait for the rest of the series and everything else to come!
