This is something that Saku and I have put a lot of blood, sweat, tears and time into. Living outside my comfort zone and at times, a little close to the edge. Feeling my heartbeat and feeling more alive. It's the only way I know how and it's the life that fills my soul. We hope you enjoy the series.

**BACKSTORY: In the Spring of 2017 I embarked on a 700km snowshoe, Alpacka raft, backpacking expedition across the harsh yet magical Newfoundland interior wilderness. I was solo as a human but far from alone. By my side from start to finish was my loyal Cape Shore Water Dog, Saku. We went through thick and thin together in order to travel across some of the least explored wilderness regions of our province. We encountered frequent wildlife while battling desolate barrens, thick bush, mountain ranges, storms, sub-zero temperatures, raging whitewater, massive lakes, the Atlantic Ocean and monster trout. Often we were days of man-power travel away from civilization. It was a big challenge and an unforgettable blessing.
Newfoundland is the island portion of the province "Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada"
We have A LOT of unoccupied land and endless outdoor opportunities. The interior of the island is largely uninhabited. What exists is primarily remote wilderness. That is where our trip took place. From the western side of the island we traversed for the most part trackless woods and waters to reach the eastern end of the province. I documented the entire journey by camera and that is what I will share with you here on my channel.
    *GEAR LIST*

What an amazing trip! Thank you so much for bringing us along with you. I have now been inspired to make a similar trip myself from New Brunswick to Saskatchewan. I like the idea of taking video along the way to help chronicle the trip. Any tips you can provide about video gear, storage space/sd cards, charging / spare batteries between supply points would be appreciated!

I've quietly watched all ten episodes, the trials and tribulations, the highs and exciting times of one man and his dog, Saku. Not commenting, just admiring your tenacity, bloody mindedness and sheer joy of being in such beautiful surroundings. An inspiration to young and old, congrats on a magnificent achievement, wonderfully captured on film.

Imagine those men who were explorers. They had no ready-supplies, they knew not where they were going and what the find around the next bend of the river or after climbing the next hill. They knew the four directions...north/south and east/west. Many did not survive and their names are not known to us. You and Saku honored them and you and they will stay in the memory of all of us who came along this adventure. Thank you, Justin Barbour, thank you Sak!

    Thank you Justin and Sak,
I followed you 10 episodes ago from my hospital bed, I continued to follow when I came home and again when the blue lights came calling around 3 or 4 episodes ago and now that I'm home and feeling loads better I watch the finale . It is not an exageration to say that you both helped me to get home. I walked 3 miles on Thursday including a small part of the Ceredigion coast path. Why? To see what lay beyond the familiar. I didn't face bears or capsize just my own doubts that I was truly improving. Three miles may not seem a lot after 700 kms but not that long ago 70 metres was a trial. I've walked our local expanse of beach, clambered across the rocks and breathed the free sea air. Your efforts encouraged me to get off the couch, to dig out my old rods and reels and to set my own challenges. Thank you for more than these fews words can explain. You promise more adventures, can't wait.
    Lloyd.

BRAVO, Justin. What a spectacular work of art and adventure. I can't get over the quality of film taking and film making. Every time you set up a shot and walk away and I know you have to come all the way back to get the camera, I am amazed and so appreciate all the extra work that takes. Not to mention the weight and logistics of carrying all your video and charging equipment, all the work that goes into maintaining and protecting in those conditions, of continuing to film as you do such rigorous and complex things. And then to take all those hours and hours of film and edit it so beautifully and compellingly... just stunning and generous and fantastic. In this time of being contained to home, this adventure has helped ease the anxiety of the crisis and brought such joy. Thank you for this beautiful offering!

It’s been so much fun watching this series from start to finish. I absolutely LOVE Saku!!! Such an intelligent, loyal, mellow dog!! Also great to see your down-to-earth and natural presentation style. You don’t put on any macho show like so many other wilderness/outdoor UA-cam channel guys who pose and prance around in their latest, newly-purchased designer outdoor gear, which is a total farce to watch. You are thankfully the complete opposite, as honest and real as ever, which is super refreshing to find on UA-cam.

That welcome home on the shore was special my brother. I'm man enough to admit I cried. After watching through the whole series I was invested, captivated if you will. I felt as though I was being welcomed home too. Thank you for that. When Sak dumped in the rapids with you, I heard the panic in your voice, it put a lump in my throat. What you do is truly inspiring. There will be kids out on that beautiful land you call home, and they will be there because you lit that fire in them. You can't measure what that's worth. Be sure that I will be following along with you on all your adventures. Safe travels my friend.

Mr.Justin Barbour and Saku, what can I say about the two of you that has not already been said by all your followers. All I can think about is how much "I LOVED" this series. It showed me how someone can overcome all obstacles when faced with them. You where presented with so many of them and even a near death experience to boot. How you where able to stay positive and humbled at the same time shows just how much of an Explorer your are. In this day and age, we have become so soft it what we do and are always looking for the easy way to do things along with all the creature comforts that we expect. You have brought back an experience and journey that shows just how rough and tumble our ancestors had to be just to survive each and every single day. I wish I could have experiences like this with you but because of my mobility disabilities I can only watch and live them through you and this series. I was there with you every step of the way because it felt so real life to me. I was chocked up at the very end when all your family and friends where there to greet you. The tears where rolling down my cheeks in "HONOR" of this accomplishment. Like I said in a previous post, you should have "The Order Of Canada" bestowed upon you for what you shown the people of Canada and Newfoundland/Labrador. You are an inspiration to me and I am sure by many other people who have followed along this journey with you and Saku. Now on to bigger and better thing for all of us to watch and see. Thanks again for what you endured to show us what it takes to survive in the wilderness of Newfoundland and Labrador. Until the next time take care of yourselves and we will be on the sidelines waiting for your next great adventures. Tom Nova Scotia, Canada

Wonderful videos. I will say though, after living in NH bear country my whole life (68 years) there's nothing in the world that's better at keeping black bears at bay than a pup. Big or small? Irrelevant. I had my lil' 20 pound beagle send a 300 pound bear up a bull pine faster than a racehorse. My mood went from sudden terror to true comedy... Best friend you'll ever have is Sak...

Hi, Justin. I began watching this 10 episode series in January when the first one came out. I wanted to view them very slowly so as to really embrace and enjoy every minute and it was certainly worth it. Viewing the episodes over the course of six months almost made it feel like I was on the journey with you. This is the best non-TV produced wilderness related series I've ever seen. One of the most enjoyable elements was the fact you had no apparent agenda when filming other than to complete your mission and get to the other side of Newfoundland. I will remember and recommend these videos for a long time to come and I'm sure you and Saku will remember them for the rest of your lives.
Thank you for giving me this enjoyment, Justin. I wish you all the best.
    Love from the UK

Truly my joy watching you was in the uneventful character of the trip. It wa a celebration of nature, of wilderness, and of the beauty and peace of your spirit on that journey. While I was shocked by the swamping and terrified that Zack was endangered your spirit carried him and you through this disaster and made of it a learning experience. The shock faded as the dominant feeling of celebration of wilderness regained it prominence. I look forward to more adventures. Thank you for the blessing.

Thanks a lot for the message and for tuning in Father Fish. The wilderness has a type of magic that can bouy the spirit and carry anyone or animal through a bad experience. Me and Saku included. Plenty of adventures already uploaded on the channel and more to come. Take care and best wishes - Justin

What a great series, one of the best of any media. Along with feeding wild critters all winter (coyote, bald eagle, fisher, foxes, racoons, hawk, owl, bobcat, deer and others) these videos fed the soul and pushed back cabin fever. Don't change...many thanks.

Justin, Thanks for allowing us to experience the raw, emotional, passionate, and intimate part of your life.
We've all shared your excitement, your anxieties, your highs and lows as we followed Saku and yourself on this incredible journey.
I think myself along with many others have experienced the rugged beauty of NL vicariously through you.
We are all a little richer for seeing this expedition.
For that, I say Thank You!

You have done yourself and Newfoundland proud. You took us along to see the good, the bad and a smidgen of ugly, (I consider the fire the ugly,, the capsize the bad.). Quoting Justin Barbour, “I don’t know what to say, I’m speechless .” You are made of tough stuff! I’m looking forward to your next videos but please take care of yourself and Saku.

Ok. I am watching this from pandemic lockdown, but this has been one of the best series I have watched- from anywhere. I felt the joy, the stress - and the urgency of the flip. This is amazing. Saku is a one in a million pup - and you a a filmmaker that gets how to tell a story. I will be following...

Then you for sharing all the portions of the journey and not just editing for "the pop".
I look forward to your continuing journeys in the future.

Maybe the best series I've seen on UA-cam in years! Thanks to you and Saku for taking all of us on your most wonderful adventure. It's like you're only talking to me when you speak. Your line of "ah, smell the adventure" will go down as one of the best quotes ever. I loved your talk about the fire. No food tastes better. Hope the gold mine doesn't come about. There is no reason to destroy beauty solely for the profits of a few. Saku is a wonderful friend and companion and I look forward to more of your's and his adventures. Stay safe brother and keep taking us along. Till we meet again.

This series, as well as all the others since, was incredibly real, raw, powerful, relaxing, unnerving, scary, tranquil, exciting and heartwarming. You took us on a journey through the full array of emotions, both high and low. I'm as much of a man as most, and yet couldn't hold back a few tears of pain as well as exhilarating victory. Thank you for reminding us of the deep strength of a tenacious and determined will to fight on.
I sincerely pray for your continued wisdom and safety, as well as that of your faithful and strong fellow soldier Saku. And much love for Bear! Just keep going! (Within reason).

It's been a pleasure to watch all of these, thanks for sharing your adventure! This series is what sets you apart from other bushcraft / camping channels. Single videos are fun, but a series like this keeps us all coming back for more and wondering "what happens next?". I'm sure it's a lot more work, but continuing the "mini series" style will rocket you and Sak to the moon. Can't wait to see what's next!

What an incredible journey! I've enjoyed every minute of this, every drop of rain, every beam of sun, every river and lake, every step, every fish and campfire. My heart was pounding when you went under with the raft and you desperately called for Saku, and I teared up in joy when you found him again. I have marvelled at the unbelievable scenery, the beautiful sunsets and sunrises. This has been truly inspiring, and I can't wait to get out on my own canoe, on my small expeditions and fishing trips. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Justin, what a epic adventure! I’ve been watching this trip all weekend. Three heart stopping times, when you had to leave Saku and paddle across the bay, capsizing your boat and then the fire, couldn’t have been more exciting. Your determination and grit are unbelievable. Saku is your greatest asset too. I love that dog!
