This happened to me too and my SSD is on its way. How did it go Ted?
Edit August 2021: For anyone curious, I installed the SSD into the laptop and it works so very much better. It used to take 30 minutes to boot up at times and now it has yet to ever take more than 45 seconds to go from pressing restart to signed in. Well besides when updating, that is.
Specs: Installed a WD Blue 500 GB 2.5 inch SSD inside the HP Notebook 15-ay014dx laptop I previously installed another 8 GB DDR4 Ram Stick into, making it a total of 16 gb RAM. Those are the only modifications but when I had the HDD and I installed double the RAM, it didn't help the boot times at all like the SSD did.

Thank you for this video. My hp laptop has rapidly degraded (hardly used and only 3 years old). I mainly use it for school. I build my own computers and have been eager to try my hand at messing around with laptops. The laptop I have is pretty much the same you worked on except its I5 8th gen without a disk tray.

I have an HP 15c series laptop. 8 gig ram 128 gig m.2 (600 MPS) with a 1 TB spinner and 8GB 2400speed ram (single channel.) With this model you cannot easily open the case..... but if you do::: good things can happen! The slower 600mps m.2 was replaced with a 512 gig Samsung 970 EVO. 3600 mps speed... Yes, that's nice. The ram upgraded to 2x8 gig 2666 speed dual channel ram.. thinking about switching out the spinner while I am at it. The connectors look proprietary. even if I do not switch the spinner out I will still disconnect it. 2 out of three major wins!!! Not sure why HP would pit such a crappy m.2 in this machine. I am glad it was upgrade ready though!!!

Although you did visually show a properly installed SSD there is the possibility of sliding the drive in UNDER the sata power data connector. I did it. Put the damn thing back together and had to figure out why it told me there was no boot drive.
Pulled it apart figured it out and moved on. 😂

Hi, i do hope you can advise me with regard to upgrading HP Laptop 15 da0xxx which is extremely slow booting up, ie, black screen for a couple of minutes, then the hp logo appears, then another three minutes booting up until all the icons are displayed, i have seen your video replacing this laptop with an SSD and feel after watching your video it's something i could tackle.
What would be your advice in getting this laptop super fast, ie, what's the best SSD i could use and would it be best to add more ram as this laptop only has 4 gb also if i did replace the SSD an RAM what kind of boot up time would you expect to achieve. Many thanks, M.

I sincerely hope this isn't a stupid question. What(if anything) would happen if you put an M2 SSD in that slot, screwed it in, then left that other Drive and started it up??? I have sent away for my Wife for 2x8Gig Sticks RAM, and a 2T SSD to replace in her HP Pavilion 15Z AW000 Laptop. Wonder which I'll get in the Mail(Stick or 2.5" Drive). Crucial Website has what I ordered :
This part is 100% compatible with
    Pavilion 15z-aw000 CTO
    Ordered 2 Sticks 8G RAM
    Maximum memory:
    16GB
    SATA version: SATA 3 - 6Gb/s
    Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
Standard memory: 4GB or 8GB removable
    Storage
    :
    Crucial MX500 2TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD
Drive form factor: 2.5inch and M.2
    Drive Interface: SATA/PCIe

Windows 10 is free from Microsoft these days as long as the computer had a previous version of windows. 8, 8.1 or 10 activated on it. It requires no product key. After you create the usb drive, simply boot from it to install latest version of 10. Here is a link to that video.....ua-cam.com/video/m2A5gcvV9HA/v-deo.html
