Hi Dale.... well it worked like a charm. I found this video you made 3 years ago for the older 17.3" HP laptop. The configuration with the rear battery and optical drive was the closest to what I have, which is a HP Notebook that I bought new in 2014. I followed your instructions, and it popped open without any difficulty. Actually. my model was easier to open up that the one you show in this video. For one thing, the mother board is attached to the top panel and is integral with the keyboard, trackpad and switch, so no ribbon cables to disconnect. Also, I did not have to pop off hinge covers, as those were non-existent. Once inside, the rest was about the same as what you show in this video to get to the HDD. I popped in the new SSD and buttoned right up. It started up.without any trouble with a USB Windows installation drive, and I did a fresh Windows install on the SSD. Went like a charm. Now it runs like a dream. Thanks again! You don't do Patreon ?
EXCELLENT VIDEO. THANK YOU! I only did 2 things differently. I HATE those dang ribbon cables so instead of disconnecting them all and removing the cover completely, I simply removed the ribbon that goes over the hard drive, disconnected the cable at the hard drive, and then just lifted up the cover to remove old hard drive and install new drive. I also left the cover loose and booted up with the new hard drive to test that everything was okay. Then I shut down and completed the install.
Thank you. For what it is worth, I have to do similar with the ribbon cables on industrial screw compressor control boards. Suckers do NOT tolerate rough handling. REALLY fun to open up a board for the first time and figure out on the fly how to get every thing loose without damaging something. Not unusual for me to have a magneto ignition sharing space on my worktable with an electronic control board. Blows the minds of the guys in the office.
yo bro you the GOAT! 💪🏻 all I needed was a new hard drive and i fixed the laptop myself, and you 100% correct when you say it’s slow! MAD SLOW and I edit on Vegas with it 😂
Thanks a lot. IF YOU DONT HAVE A PLASTIC TOOL TO OPEN THE CHASE: A good replacement for the plastic tool was a credit card (or other plastic card). Rounded corners, plastic... you can't damage you notebook with this "tool".
Hi sir. I came across your video and I like your work. I have a 2012 17" HP Pavilion g7, And I want to upgrade it because it has a sentimental value to me. If I may ask . Where are you located and how can I send the laptop to you?
Quick question....I have the same machine but It looks like my video card may be the cause of my black screen. It looks like if I wanted to fix it I may have to purchase a new mother board. I'm I correct with this thinking? I'm just a handyman who likes to take things apart. Thank you?
Hello sir. Thanks for this wonderful tutorial, and I have a question if you do not mind! What is about the laptop hp15-ay076nia? Can I repalce the hdd with SSD without any problem?
Na, we tried to open it again last night and the screws I mentioned are the two that are hiding when you pull out the dvd. It seems your laptop was the closet I could find to my dad's but with the two screws they do not have traditional philips head and they look like a square head or some sort, very tiny and not deep. Out of all the hundreds of screwdrivers and tips he has I guess he does not have one to fit the head of those two screws. It's very frustrating. I wanted to update his ram and possibly hdd.
Hi. Those screws are a pain. They sometimes are in very tight from factory. A #0, and or sometimes a #00 would work. I've seen different sizes in same model. A cheap screwdriver will not work if there are tight. Use a high quality Phillip's with a true tip. However, if you have stripped them out, it's not end of world. You easily just drill them out with a sharp drill bit. Small one just big enough to get into messed up Phillip's slot. It will remove the flat head of the screw. You dont to have those screws in the laptop. It will close up just fine. Dale
Is there anything I can do to make my Asus x751n 17" laptop a bit more powerful. I know it's a terribly slow laptop and bad feedback but I'm trying to make the most of it

What size screwdriver did u use to get those two stubborn ones out?
I always use a #0 or PH0 Phillip's. Good quality tip. Dale. I assume you mean the 2 silver screws by the hinges.
Yes, thanks for responding, I guess I don't have that size out of all the kazillion tools we have..go figure

was that #0 screwdriver for the short screws by the optical drive?

Hi which is the best SSD you would recommend?
Hi. For 2.5 inch SATA SSD, I use samsung EVO, Crucial MX500, OR ADATA. All good. Dale
Many thanks Dale
Are the cpu able to be replaced in this laptop. Can't find much info which laptops are cpu upgradeable for HP.
Hi. You cannot upgrade cpu. They are micro soldered to main logic board.
re the question on the HP15 video..nevermind.. found it.
i may have stripped those?
I did the same and the laptop does not turn on, you only see the light of the load nothing else
Can i put a brand new ssd without clon it and then look for my old windows and install it?
