Just pulled my dad's first Jen emaxx out of the loft yesterday and it brought back so many good memories!! Also found my losi 8 t that I tried to convert to electricity as a kid. Now it's a bit more money and patience I can finally finish what I started all those years ago. Wouldn't be doing this without finding this channel so thanks!
Phil important information... Traxxas says the tire pressure needs to be 14psi, the servo 1 degree off to the left, motors must be synced up with each other, and the temperature must not be less than 70 degrees F. Also, must be completely flat ground. Wind speed must be 0000.012 mph, The moon must be aligned with the Milky Way while the earth is on the upper orbit of the sun aligned with Mars to hit the advertised 30mph. Hope this helps.
Why can’t people just enjoy the video! It’s a CHRISTMAS EVE ADVENT VIDEO! Why does there always have to be sarcastic whiners! If you don’t like traxxas, then don’t buy it! But have some class!
@@OGRCFanaticWhy can't people make a hilarious comment without someone whining about it 🤔 It's Christmas, cheer up have a sense of humor and stop being a Grinch.... 😜
Had an EMaxx and loved it at the time! I put nearly every hop-up available at the time and must have had $1500 in it. I got out of the hobby before brushless motors and LiPo batteries hit the market but got back into it at the start of the pandemic. What’s available now blew my mind comparatively
you CAN run it on lipo but the esc isnt made with protection circuits so care must be taken when using lipo. there is no cutoff so a monitor for the battery is needed.
It does have lipo mode with lvc cutoff......if the led is red it's in nimh mode.....when turning it on push and hold the power button until it turns green
Man the first gen Emaxx was a blast. I did so many 1-2 shifts at wide open throttle and the transmission never broke, even though you definitely weren't supposed to do that. It's also a throwback to an era when Traxxas wasn't such an evil behemoth and you could enjoy their products guilt-free.
I still have that E-MAXX in my closet. I also drove every pack full throttle upshifting (and some downshifting) like it was meant to do it. It never showed any signs of wear from it. I did however blow off the plastic shock caps occasionally from jumping a bit too high. I had to clean up shock oil a few times.🤣
Oh stop whining you little baby. Traxxas acts like a corporation because, guess what? It’s a corporation! That’s no reason to criticize their products or treat people who buy their products like they have the plague (believe me, I’ve seen people doing that).
I had the first Gen bought in 2000. Drove it for years, rarely broke! I sold it to a guy that wanted it for his child. I still have the original body. Pains me to see you took it to the Skatepark 😢 Anyway enough crying here! Merry Christmas Tomley to you and your family!!! 🎄🎁
I have one of the old original 3906 E-MAXXes I break it out once in a while and run it it's a pretty fun old truck especially when you run it on lipos . Lipos definitely Wake it up and make it a totally different truck than running nimh batteries. I've really been enjoying the whole Advent calendar series, keep up the good work and have a Merry Christmas 🎄
Some say that the Clodbuster is so powerful, when you push the throttle on a Clodbuster, it doesn't travel forwards, it actually pushes the world backwards, all we know is that it's called the Clodbuster
Back when Traxxas were the top dog IMO. I remember my Nan buying me the Emaxx 3906 in 2000, at the time I had a TL-01 with a 27t P2k Motor. Then the Emaxx came along and it was like Alien Technology compared to the TL-01. Shame the hobby is so “fast” now. This video proved a 25mph truck is just as fun and capable in the real world as 60mph 6S Monster. Merry Christmas Phil & Family
It was amazing you found a classic truck in such pristine condition. It jumps so well. I remember seeing them for the first time in the hobby shop. People were stunned. Thanks for bring back some r/c history. I enjoyed seeing it run.
I still have, and run, my original 3906 E-Maxx. It’s such a mood. Double everything. Two shocks, two motors, two batteries; and in the second gen: two steering servos. Soon after lipo and brushless power negated the “need” for all that.
The 3906 E-Maxx was my first RC back who-knows-when. I lost interest in RC, but then like everyone else during the pandemic, old hobbies came back! I got the E-Maxx out of a storage bin, spent probably more than $1,000 on upgrades, broke it a ton, fixed it better each time, then cracked the chassis. Plan on dyeing the chassis black and putting it all back together, but I got hooked, and moved on to other rigs. E-Maxx, I'll be back!
Great video, Phil! I’ve enjoyed all your advent videos! You worked very hard on these and most of us understand and appreciate that! It’ll be sad when this ends tomorrow! Merry Christmas Eve, Phil!
I want a brushless emaxx now! My first hobby grade rc was a traxxas sportmaxx. Basically a 2wd single speed no reverse t maxx. I had got the 4wd kit and installed that and a bunch of blue rpm bits. I had got a full exhaust for it and a new old bronco body for it that i painted green and black. It was the first gen nitro motors for the maxxs's and it never tuned up properly but always started.
A good thing to know was with the first one came out brushless motors and lithium batteries were insanely expensive. The nitro was the big deal because not only did it have the two-speed transmission, it was also the first nitro RC car I knew about was reverse
Not the E-MAXX but my Ravage got a good, but dirty, run out today. Such a great little truck, and my first rc car in 20 years! How things have come on is insane.
That was a great buy for u Phil. And thank u for adding it to the calendar. Man rcs have changed so much, but the was still a bad ass truck. Given that it's older than me.
Hilarious intro with old reliable jumping through the wrapping paper! I couldn't stop laughing when you added the grayscale fade and sad music after the shock tower broke 😂 This series of back to back videos has been a lot of time and effort and is much appreciated! Happy Christmas! 🎄
Some say that the Clodbuster is so powerful that when you push the throttle, it doesn't travel forwards,it actually pushes the world backwards, all we know is that it's called the Clodbuster.
Great video, enjoyed the whole series! I’ve had a HPI Vorza about 12-13 years, 6s, amazing the performance difference between the two, I can still remember driving the Vorza for the first time!
Modelsport are so good! I ordered a quantum rx flux on 22nd December at 1:45pm and it arrived next day (saturday) 9am...faster than amazon and good prices, i was impressed !
I sure hope this awesome advent calendar paid off in views and subs. Ton of fun, sad it ends tomorrow but you deserve a break and a Merry Christmas. Cheers!
That was a cool way to bust open that one I made it to day #24 Had to go to work this morning so I’m just enjoying the rest of my Sunday gunna wrench a bit & get out tomorrow. Found one of my Amazon packages this morning I had lost the top arm bolt on my Fireteam so it’s back up now just waiting for my UTB front steering shaft I broke one side coming later which is nice yesterday I managed to brake the back wheel mount on my Rlaarlo buggy & blew the rear tires off my Ruster 4x4 after installing a Max 10 & turned up the punch I watched the pieces fly through the air & land. This is 2 Traxxas reviews I normally don’t see you do many Traxxas reviews.
Takes me back to my t-maxx 2.5 (grey head) days... shock towers, chassis rails and bulkheads made of glass. RPM makes bulkheads now, they made towers/arms back then, but not bulkheads.
I use that "junk transmitter" on a Team Associated RB10 at my local racetrack. And has much better range and ergonomics than the stock one on most RTR cars. Also the batteries last longer, not as long as in a KT231 P+ but they last a lot. The KoPropo EX Next is exclusively for my MP10 TKI 3. Although it may seem strange, having already almost 400 different models, I only use 37 transmitters some of them 27-48 Mhz. 39 years in this hobby makes one accumulate too many things... Not to mention boxes, spare parts, tools, batteries, chargers, etc. You know that already.
Love this vid! I had an original .15 T-Maxx that I traded for an original E-maxx that I then traded in at a hobby shop to get the all “powerful” 2.5 T-Maxx. Still have it today but would love to get an Emaxx again.
My 1st ever RC was a Tmaxx Nitro with upgraded motor and loved it more than anything as was a gift from my late brother who passed away few yrs ago now from liver failure. It was stolen and was 𝙉𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙍 able to afford to replace it. So I watch videos like these hoping to someday but another Traxxas but electric 🤞
I remember Christmas '02 when I got the first gen e-maxx. Still the best Christmas ever. It was nowhere near as nice as this one. Single brushed Titan motor with a very early gen ESC, right after mechanical speed controllers were on the way out. HPI Savage came out shortly after and I was jealous of my friends.
Only my most favourite series of RC that came out early 2000. I have 3 first gen e-maxx as well as a brushless edition (last version). Was so excited to see you having one today!
Still loving the RC Advent calendar 👍🎅Almost there! Massive effort Phil & you're in great shape for being such a dedicated professional hobbyist! 💯🤓 Cheers
I remember saving up for so long and buying the first generation green emax. Charging up for what seemed to be days. Went out on the first run ran in a bit of wet grass and killed the truck in bout 4 minutes lol its truly one of the only trap as they should have just kept making it had a fun factor that’s missing from some mt trucks they offer now
i could be wrong but the 2nd gens were a bit faster with the single speed over the 2 speed at least i remember mine being that way on 2 2s batteries not sure if the ESC was set for lipo in the video or not but that dose help the coging a bit
Please Phil , you gotta do a mod version of the Emaxx . Tune the suspension and put some decent motors in , it’s looks like a great platform to work on .
That thing is cool, I've never seen one. That's back when I had a gap in my RC play. -- I think it would be cool to upgrade that to a VXL system and modern batteries.
I have my 3906 emaxx and can’t find the 2speed transmission parts. For like 2 years now!!! Man I want it fixed. I have maybe 50 RCs and like to keep em all in rtr condition and run the older ones sometimes for the nostalgia.
Thank you for jumping the RC car into the advent calendar. I knew if we asked, you would make it happen. It's proof that you love us even though we are a pain in the arse most of the time! 😂😂 You're NO.1. Happy Holidays mate
Yep, I use Modelsport quite a lot. But I do use shops that I can drive to if I can. And I'll be nipping up to Rochester RC from the Hastings area where I'm visiting rellys. Rochester RC have Yeah Racing upgrades for Tamiya chasses. CC-01 suspension upgrade kit is waiting for me to collect it! 😁
It was a very cool truck when they came out but super fragile even going 25 miles an hour and when people started doing brushless systems and then they just broke to bits.. Full RPM upgrades and a few other tweaks and it's a solid platform tho
I own 6 of these and 2 Tmaxx, easily my favorite platform. You are missing out with the controller though, the old style 2.4ghz controllers are some of the best controllers out there. Getting hard to find receivers for them now though 😅
Love the video it's awesome seeing a older rc model going out for a zip I recently got a traxxas 3906 first gen emaxx and I put in a castle system and took it for a zoom down the street. merry Christmas everyone and happy holidays
I’ve been waiting for this !!!! I have a e maxx of my own the brushless edition and it’s such a shame they discontinued such a great truck yea I know it has its issues and weaknesses but they could of came out with a 2.0 that would of been really cool and fun but don’t think that will ever happen unfortunately
Thank you for doing the e maxx I love the truck I've had many of them I didnt bash I drive it moderately but so fun thank you for doing the Christmas special 25 days i loved it and got the mjx because of ur review and am getting the fms colorado asap thanks again and have a merry Christmas
The one truck I’ve always wanted, but never had a chance to get. Basically I was too young to afford it. I hope that one day I can find one in this condition. As far as I’m concerned, it’s awesome.
To me this looks like more fun than the stampede 4x4 you did yesterday. Also i think it just looks cooler to. Merry Christmas Tomley i hope you and your family have a great time over the holidays.
Not sure what's more impressive. The improvements in performance in the last 16 years or the fact that traxxas is still selling the same models from back then. Let's just all be thankful for brushless motors this holiday season.
Mate, last night Pedro from Rochester rc brought one of those Losi pro moto round to mine so we could check it out etc. man it’s so impressive. Sounds like a little jet fighter when u switch it on. Really want one!!! It’s 1/4 and quite heavy too!
I remember these coming out and me just thinking “man one day” now we’re doing 70 out the box. I can only imagine what my kids RCS are going to do.💯❤️🤙…merry Christmas everyone!💥💥
Broken shocktowers was very common, that was one of it's weak points. My buddy had one and the shocktowers kept breaking, he used it as a basher and took some insane jumps with the emaxx. Such a fun and cool rc Car. ☺️
its a really nice car, had the T-maxx the biggest weck point on this cars are the skidplate both front and rear. They always broke back in the days specilly when they use to race monster trucks
i still have my 3903 i put the 4s system from the new MAXX into it. 3s is good, 4s snapped center axel first go. ordered the 5151r i think steel center driveshafts and i also ordered hardened front differentials from GPM bc i think those went also😂 i love this truck tho
They don’t make that E-Maxx no more discontinued, Replace by Traxxas Maxx in 2019. 2019 E-Maxx tsm was the last one they made. I remember that E-Maxx and they still have parts for it
Hey Phil... I think the first rtr with twin motors was the losi 1/18 monster truck ( mini lst) back in early 2000s ,, like 2005 or earlier . Ive got the whole set! lol. The mini T , mini lst, and associated mt18 😁 But i could be wrong 😉 ,, Wouldn't be the first time 😂😅
I just got the older 14.4v version for free from a neighbor cleaning out their basement. Just need a radio (TQ radio, tq 3.3 radio?) and 2 batteries (7.2v 6-cell nicad or nimh?) and a peak charger. Can't wait!
There is something eminently satisfying about a buggy/truck making clean jumps. Nice score Phil. Merry Christmas :) Edit: oh yeah, I bet you can't put that little truck through one of those pigeon holes again, you know, with you actually trying to.
Wow day 24 this has been an epic advent calendar series phil well done 👍🏻 I'd just like to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and here's to an awesome 2024🍻🎉
My first nirto truck is a tmaxx 2003 4910. I went thru the stock .15. Then to a xtm .18. Then a os .cvx 15. I coverted my to brushless. With the stock two speed that comes with the nirto one. Still has mechal breaks runs on 3s 4300 kv 550 side winder esc. I have gone thru some rear drive lines tho. Thing ripps.
I distinctly recall the e-max being 1/10 but don't forget a. Clodbuster is also a 1/10th monster truck and I think probably the closest to actually being 1/10 scale. Easy way to tell monster truck tires are 66 inches tall. If your 10th scale monster truck does not have 6.6 inch tires on it, it's not 10 scale
Another great one!! I've tried to make good videos, it's NOT easy, but you make it look so!! All you do is very much appreciated!! Have a very Merry Christmas ‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
I think thats the best rc car lol its so cool how they can have 2 rc cars in one i would see about being able to change both the high and low gear up on the high and gear even further down for the low so it can speed and crawl
What the heck? That's basically 2 trucks in 1, Phil! 😂 Fantastic bashing as always!!! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 Merry Christmas and happy new year!
I saw that trail in the sky and came to the comments to see if anyone noticed. I didn't immediately jump to aliens, just thought what a weird flight path that plane has taken. It looks too tight of a turn for a commercial jumbo jet.
We have the Red Arrows (RAF Acrobatics team) based just down the road and they practice when the weathers good. So it’s the smoke trail from them doing a loop 👍 It’s like having an Airshow every week lol

Those were the good old days, with the T max, the revo, and the E max,I purchased a nitro 4 tech in 2003 which began the addiction to R c.
Nice!
My first hobby grade RC years ago was a 1st Gen e-maxx, fun to see this! You certainly did less damage than I did my first day with it haha.
Thanks for not killing it. I hate to see any vintage rcs like that destroyed.
Yeah, I had no intention of destroying it. As soon as that shock mount broke, I called it quits 😎
I have this E-MAXX in my closet, still like new. What memories!
EDIT: My E-MAXX is older, it has the 14.4v esc.
Thank you for doing the e maxx I love the truck I've had many of them I didnt bash I drive it moderately but so fun thank you for doing the Christmas special 25 days i loved it and got the mjx because of ur review and am getting the fms colorado asap thanks again and have a merry Christmas
Great month of videos with even better variety. I'd say take the next week off, come back swinging next year. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas 🎄
Great panel opening🤘🤘I really didn't know alot about this platform, I imagine a double brushless setup would be pretty intense
Mate, last night Pedro from Rochester rc brought one of those Losi pro moto round to mine so we could check it out etc. man it’s so impressive. Sounds like a little jet fighter when u switch it on. Really want one!!! It’s 1/4 and quite heavy too!
Yeah, they are much bigger than I thought. Hoping to get mine out next week
I got my E-Maxx in 2004, just before the Gen 2s came out. It has been a fun truck. Great find Tomley!!!!👍👍👍
6:05 that kinda hurt, but it was expected once you said maybe a few "light" jumps 😂
A buddy of mine had a TMaxx and a nitro Revo and we used to run them at the local BMX dirt track and they were badass.
I remember these coming out and me just thinking “man one day” now we’re doing 70 out the box. I can only imagine what my kids RCS are going to do.💯❤️🤙…merry Christmas everyone!💥💥
Yes, crazy how far the hobby’s come in the last 10yrs
Broken shocktowers was very common, that was one of it's weak points.
My buddy had one and the shocktowers kept breaking, he used it as a basher and took some insane jumps with the emaxx. Such a fun and cool rc Car. ☺️
I think they came with broken shock towers lol mine broke first outing. Great truck.
@@terrybryant6899 exactly, i remember he always had a lot of spare shocktowers with him when we were out bashing. 🤣
Yes, wasn’t a crazy hit, and you could see the plastic was not great. Cheap fix though 👌
its a really nice car, had the T-maxx the biggest weck point on this cars are the skidplate both front and rear. They always broke back in the days specilly when they use to race monster trucks
i still have my 3903 i put the 4s system from the new MAXX into it.
3s is good, 4s snapped center axel first go. ordered the 5151r i think steel center driveshafts and i also ordered hardened front differentials from GPM bc i think those went also😂
i love this truck tho
They don’t make that E-Maxx no more discontinued, Replace by Traxxas Maxx in 2019. 2019 E-Maxx tsm was the last one they made. I remember that E-Maxx and they still have parts for it
Hey Phil... I think the first rtr with twin motors was the losi 1/18 monster truck ( mini lst) back in early 2000s ,, like 2005 or earlier .
Ive got the whole set! lol. The mini T , mini lst, and associated mt18 😁
But i could be wrong 😉 ,,
Wouldn't be the first time 😂😅
I just got the older 14.4v version for free from a neighbor cleaning out their basement. Just need a radio (TQ radio, tq 3.3 radio?) and 2 batteries (7.2v 6-cell nicad or nimh?) and a peak charger. Can't wait!
There is something eminently satisfying about a buggy/truck making clean jumps. Nice score Phil. Merry Christmas :)
Edit: oh yeah, I bet you can't put that little truck through one of those pigeon holes again, you know, with you actually trying to.
Wow day 24 this has been an epic advent calendar series phil well done 👍🏻
I'd just like to wish you and your family a merry Christmas and here's to an awesome 2024🍻🎉
Thanks Allan, you too 🎄
Happy Christmas to you and your family, I have enjoyed your 25 days of videos it’s certainly a new take on the advent calendar.
I would love to see you do a simple build on this thing..such a relic in rc!
The 📯 😂 used to piont out the parts / hand/pointing catches me off guard 😂😂😂 hilarious 😂
Really enjoyed the video, merry Christmas Phil thanks for all the entertainment this year.
crazy how far RC cars have came since 2000!
I even made sway bars front end rear using wpl suspation links. And the throtle linchang from the nirto set up.
Tomlon love your video Traxxas EMax old school best old school truck 🎄💯 Merry Christmas eggnog for you Tomlon🎉 in happy New Year 👍😉✨☃️
Did Tamiya not have twin motors on the Clodbuster and TXT before Traxxas?
Yes they 100% did
RTR?
@@TomleyRC you got me there.
Tamiya also had twin motors in the twin detonator truck and some others.
Another great one!! I've tried to make good videos, it's NOT easy, but you make it look so!! All you do is very much appreciated!! Have a very Merry Christmas ‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
Aww man that thing looks so good! I dreamed about one of these back in the days.
I think thats the best rc car lol its so cool how they can have 2 rc cars in one i would see about being able to change both the high and low gear up on the high and gear even further down for the low so it can speed and crawl
What the heck? That's basically 2 trucks in 1, Phil! 😂
Fantastic bashing as always!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Merry Christmas and happy new year!
I think you just created a new pastime.
Jumping cars through different sized openings.
That was my favorite.
Yep, did someone notice the strange alien circle in the sky at 14:55 ??! (and may find an explanation...)
I saw that trail in the sky and came to the comments to see if anyone noticed. I didn't immediately jump to aliens, just thought what a weird flight path that plane has taken. It looks too tight of a turn for a commercial jumbo jet.
Thanks, let's see if anyone will have any clue ... or any cloud ..!
We have the Red Arrows (RAF Acrobatics team) based just down the road and they practice when the weathers good. So it’s the smoke trail from them doing a loop 👍
It’s like having an Airshow every week lol
Thank you so much@@TomleyRC, I'll be able to sleep well tonight even you've just broke my dreams with this pragmatic answer. Blague à part, c'est l'occasion pour moi de vous remercier pour la qualité du contenu que vous réalisez et pour vos montages vidéos. Oui, je suis français et je sais apprécier la qualité anglaise ! Joyeuses fêtes à vous et votre famille.
U know u gotta throw some power in it now for a vid. Its hard to imagine the money you had to spend bak in the day to get 25 moh and 10 mins of run time. For electric anyway. Idk if i cud justify it. Id b a nitro guy. God bless technology. Merry Christmas to all of u out there ✌️❤️
I didn't realize e-maxxes weren't popular anymore, I remember them being the only thing magazines and stores cared about when I was a kid
It's the distant past now.
I have three of these things but never had a "in box" example! If you ever sell it I would love first dibs buddy! 😉👌
You could "𝙒𝙄𝙉" it in what they call giveaways but are actually paid raffles which I hate!
14:55 Any idea what made that weird thing in the clouds?
Had the t maxx which I thought was the biss at the time, I do have another one coming and wondered if you know how easy it would be to change to brushless?
I use to race my T Maxx in the monster truck class in 2001 before truggies took over that was so awesome broke a lot of parts
Its been a cracking 24 days mate. Well done to you for making the videos. Ive enjoyed them all. Its nice to see you dont have to spend a fortune on rc cars to have fun.
I gotta admit Modelsport is my online go to. My LHS is aircraft orientated and has some ftx stuff and some tamiya but like 3-4 cars and im a kyosho guy
Cleetus McFarland just gave his entire staff a losi promoto mx. I want to say like 16 people. Each one got a Traeger pellet smoker too. Spendy.
That's nice..and?
@@blitzrc4713 I was sharing that story in reference to the Losi bike Phil featured in this video. It's nice to see the RC hobby being spread to so many people in such a generous way. I'm not sure why you're being negative.
@@Mr.NiceGuy80 take it how you want mate merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Yes was funny seeing them all driving around haha.
MERRY CHRISTMAS MATE THANKS FOR ALL THE WORK U DO FOR US KEEP EM COMING ! ALL THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR.
Can't believe you waited until now to enjoy the first ultimate basher (mamba monster still to go). At least you got one before Talbot
I have a first gen E-Maxx, still love it, and 1st gear in the first gen, was the wheelie gear
You can make that go 116mph but you have to change motor and esc to modify it
