Make those soft boys into men Tomley
be a fun project to turn it into a 2wd buggie
thats way too much for a body, better off buying the whole truck again and have all the spares
Yeah, imagine it costing you £60 every few weeks, or even after 1 or 2 packs through it. Arrma showcased it at the skatepark on their promo video… so they can’t say miss use 😅
@@TomleyRC rc bodys in general are pants down. the bit of plastic is worth like £1, and takes probably 60 seconds tops to make
This comment was payed by traxxas smh 👎🏽 your a loser Kevin stop reviewing ARRMA aka super ARRMA hater aka sponsored by traxxas 👎🏽
@@TomleyRC I'm sure dropping a 6s system in was totally anticipated by the Arrma team too.
Bodies even pre painted should never be more than like $20. Shoe goo and tape are in order on that truck.
The transitions between the red and green RCs are great🎉
😇
Agreed, looked awesome
I thought that im collorblind at first
When I started this RC thing back in the 80's, my first car accepted a Ni-Cd battery into a compartment on the bottom, with a removable plastic door. A brushed 540 turned plastic gears, metal driveshafts, and ultimately propelled a plastic car body to about 25mph. So... we've come full circle, lol.
My granddaughter is going to have a blast with this thing, and I'm happy that I know _exactly_ what she'll go through while learning RCs, (unlike the rest of her upbringing that is so foreign to me, lol). But, she's also a Tomley subscriber though, so there's hope!
I initially thought they had lost their mind with it not being 4wd and not having a solid rear axle. However, watching the video, it's like a love letter to the Tamiya Lunchbox. Not the fastest, but great fun to drive and wheelies for fun. I really like it.
Sorry i just made a similar comment and scrolled down and saw yours but im glad we agree
You are 100% right . For me its a very good modern Lunch box and should be advertised as this , instead of stupid bash reviews in skate parks .😉
My friend got the kit and built it up with his daughter, they had a blast and go out together almost every day. Thats exactly the demographic. Cheap and cheerful right? Id say mission accomplished Arrma, well done.
i’d agree . think the way it’s been selling arrma are on to something. and if it brings new people into the hobby thrn all the better 👍
I tell ya, you English blokes do better videos than most of us Americans. Nicer production values, nice editing, neat shots. Kudos good sir!
Haha, cheers mate. It’s our silly sense of humour I guess 😇
I'll second that statement.
I agree! And not just the UA-cam channels. I watch The Great British baking show and Repair shop simply because of how well the people in the UK truly get along and genuinely like one another! Totally different vibe than here in the US
It’s like austin powers voice describing rc cars 😂
This is pretty smart of arrma TBF. Whenever I see people asking what's good for a first timer, for some reason people always suggest 2wd entry platforms. Arrma are tapping into that, offering a durable 2wd platform with upgrade paths built in. That will eventually lead to new customers wanting to explore their bigger and faster platforms.
Yes, it turned out a decent truck 👌
@@TomleyRCjust don't go chopping out a big chunk of the chassis web and the put 6s brushless through it 😂
Love Arrmas artwork I havent seen anyone mention the driver S L Jackson (Samuel L Jackson) Snakes on a plane the truck is named after snakes
Every so often, I'll sit down and take a look at what other youtubers in the RC scene are up to. Haven't done it for a while. This video - wow. Love the edits, the pacing, variety of settings and angles and so on. NICE work on this one, Phil. I'm an admirer! (My boyo is loving the Gorgon here too. Top shelf review) Cheers
As always, appreciate the video!
2wd monster truck (even brushed) is still one of the best RCs for kids or people getting into the hobby. Wheely fun, durable, and affordable. Well done Arrma.
Great video, we love the switch trick. As a family of 7 we have a Mojave, 3 Kraton 4sv2, 2 Slash 2wd, an MT10 3s, all very capable and fast but the Gorgon reminds me of my childhood in the 80's owning/driving a 2wd monster truck thats just fast enough for the front yard is nostalgic, we now have 3 Gorgons and waiting for more of your awesome videos, Cheers from California.
I have one, I am just back into the hobby after many years, I got it so I had something to share with my 7 year old daughter. We have been out with it quite a bit and loved it. I am far happier passing over the control to this than some of its more expensive counterparts. I think for what it is its a good truck as we aren't bashing on it to quite the same level as skate parks.
I've been watching you for some time now and i really like how you set up showing a rc car your informative, funny and you actually show how to have fun with an rc car besides just trying to see it's limits your entertaining to watch. thank you
I love the battery tray at the bottom so you don't have to take off the body.
Heading out in that weather was a real dedication to the production of this video! thank you for that! Luckily the clear body here in the US is only $20
Thanks Peter. I’m not just a fair weather runner like sone 👌
@@TomleyRC Can this truck really deal with the wet? Or do the bearings get trashed?
I appreciate your dedication and having a great video in a real world environment.. Send it!
Thanks mate. Appreciate it
Just got mine yesterday, the ARTR version and I love it!. It's tough, fun to bash, quite fast for a brushed car and easy to assemble. Really really love it!
Best Gorgon Video on UA-cam 💯❤🤙🤙
Nice work Phil!👍😊
I’m enjoying mine in stock form. The older I get the less I feel the need to go silly fast all the time.
I think Arrma may have a winner on their hands amongst newcomers and folks like myself who actually prefer to drive 2wd vehicles.
Hopefully Arrma will support this platform over the long haul…it drives better than a Stampede!
Long before the "escape" it was clear you put a lot of effort in this one. It's absolutely fantastic! The video, the truck I could take or leave.
Out of all the videos I have seen of this truck I think yours is the best the most in-depth
I have had a lot of fun with mine, but I held back buying because of the early body replacement prices. I cannot understand why they cannot sell them with just body and no extra parts. The full set is OK if you want a full colour change.
Looks like a fun truck! The footage of it sliding around in those wet conditions was awesome! I think the nickel metal battery is actually a good choice for the target audience. You can always upgrade to Lipo as you progress in the hobby. The pricing and durability of the stock body is outrageous 😮 I think I will stick to my old brushless stampede, but entry level vehicle's to help bring in new people to our awesome hobby are always welcome. Just dont scare them off with overpriced lexan!!
13:05 that power slide with the reflection of the truck in the water.... 🔥 Dope music also😎
Yeah, I was pleased with some of the footage. It was so wet!
Simple, cheap and fun. This is something that has gotten away from the market recently.
Tbh I think i'd just pick up a banggood special MT. Same price and tons of cheap spares. Also most of them are 4wd and gives a new driver something to tinker with
The HBX Pro 1/16 that I brought from Bangood, is fast, reliable and can be used anywhere. The spares are super cheap. 35 years of RC experience and this or an MJX Hyper Go, are what I recommend to newcomers.
@@philipjamesparsons Perfect example there. I bought the WLToys 144001. A buggy yes but they seem to base their models on the same or similar chassis. I recently bought the ZD Racing 9116 1/8 MT. Only thing i've broken is the body. But it was self inflicted as I put a 6s esc into it. It's absolutely mental now.
Great gift for the grandkids. 😊
Yes.. 👌
brushed cars have a place in the market for sure.
thhe market needed somethhing like this that kids can get into
brushed motors arent slow either, my brushed pb is 56mph and climbing!
the 25a all in one wont do any favours for it though. 60a minimum in my book for brushed, they like the juice.
25a 2in1 esc + heavy car + big wheels + powerful brushed motor = soon in the bin .
what did you expect ? 😂
For the price and entry-level stage of the truck, the body pricing is pretty ridiculous especially for how flimsy/brittle it is. However, it seems like they nailed everything on the head for their target market - inexpensive and with good agility, handling and speed with Arrma quality remaining. A little bit envious that people get to start with this when I started with the Vorteks...
Stampede killer? If they are going for the 10 year-olds this Christmas to grow a customer base, they are off to a good start.
Yeah I reckon
@@TomleyRC I would love to see a side by side comparison of the 2wd Stampede and this that seems to be squarely what this is aimed at and its very similar but I haven't seen a reviewer make that comparison.
@JonSturm probably because Traxxas is likely to sue if they don't like the result. That's just bitter me tho.
My 5 year old is getting one for Christmas. I can’t wait.
@@KeysRun well done !!!!!!
All these free jetboat rapids courses ,Awesome!
The production quality on this video is honestly amazing for a product review.
Nice editing on the color changes, had me trippin the first couple of times it went from green to red LOL
Also, now I wanna know what my Senton will look like with those tires! Mad Max build!
Great video 🎉 that flood was nuts but looked super fun ❤
alex kowaliuk here the storm was very intresting to see also the truck was really good ,probably better than the traxxas stampede
Seems your house was safe from the flood thankfully!
Great video, thanks for going outside in the rain for this, it was actually pretty cool to see the Gorgon in the water & Mud!
So happy there's a build it yourself version, I wanted to get into the hobby but couldn't find anything interesting in kit form outside of Tamya.
Great work on this review . This truck looks perfect for the entry level enthusiast .
Reminds me a bit of the old 2wd clodbuster. That is the truck that started it all for me back in the early 90s.
Im so glad i went for the brushless version of my strada, seeing the brushed motors at work, its a pale comparison, i dont think i would love it nearly as much as i do with the brushless setup.
When we used our old Tamiya cars ( many years ago) muddy track were the order of the day. So, I can imagine changing battery packs to be a gritty, messy affair !
Looks good though.
Finally your review have dropped, been waiting for it. Ordered for my 5 year old, for a christmas present. He told me a moth ago that he's to Nikko's is to slow for him and he loves to drive together with me. This is seems about perfect for him with all the upgradeability and cheap parts.
Perfect for the kids. They are gonna love it 😎👌
I mean it looks ok but I think in this price range the market has some much better stuff for your money
Still cool but wouldn't be my choice
11:40 what kind of an Englishman goes out on the rainiest day of the year without his wellingtons? lol ya daft bastard! lol
Glad to see that gorgonops is getting some attention. (The animal)
I kinda understand the nimh pack. Most kids will just run the battery all the way down, killing the battery. But cmon, i know that esc have an option for a voltage cutoff. And there are literally cheaper brushless cars with lipo cutoff so there's no excuse.
I love mine so far!! Takes a beating!
I appreciate how you switched all the colors out. That was cool👍🏼
Cheers dude
I had the motor shift as well on the second run of this truck, the pinion shifted away from the spur, easy fix though. Arrma did ok considering their target market (kids) for this one, but I'm not a fan of the body mounting system, and that stock NiMH Battery has to go as well. I have enough fast RC's so will probably not go to brushless on this one, but 2S for sure.
Yooooo that damn green to red flip edit is seamless! Good on ya!
Haha, cheers dude
2WD monster truck without plans for 4 wheel upgrade..USELESS 100%..nice work ARRMA..kudos
Typical Arrma junk!!!
I shoe-gooed my body before ever taking it out and have no issues so far even after switching to 3s (3300kv) but I did have to reduce throttle to 75% to make it drivable but it's a blast.. definitely recommend this truck for someone starting out.
wait and see how long plastic gears and driveshafts will last on 3S ... surely not a long time .😉
I just assembled the kit, it was pretty easy very straightforward, what size lipo are you using? mah and C rating ? Also do you have to break in the brushed motor? Thanks great video too
Awesome little truck I stuck a 3s brushless system in mine the only thing that's broke is body. For the price it's super durable.
This seems like a Direct Upgrade for the 2WD Stampede, that I started out with 24 years ago and still have. Definitely aimed toward beginners and children. With an NIMH in it, you'd have a hard time ever breaking it.
Wonder how they take running in the wet? I ran a Clodbuster from the 80's and never had a problem running in the wet. Bearings handled it fine. Thirty years on, my Armma Mojave, had bearings seize up if it was run in the wet and not ckeaned for hours.
Any water-related issue that came up after? Thanks for the video!
I like it, Can see it on many a childs wish list this year.
Oh, and nice cuts between the colors!
Time you bought it another body and 2s battery it’s near on £300 Spose still cheaper than other stuff
some real trick editing in this video! Love it.
The included 7 cell nimh is 10v fully charged so more than a 2S lipo and safer. Great present for a preteen or first RC
Soggy. You do these things so we don't have to. Cheers Phil
Okay so it’s been quite a few years but I think it’s about time to bring out the newer wltoys 144010, they’ve updated it a little and I’m trying to speed run mine but idk what parts to get, it’s my first Rc car.
As you have seen the .2 volt increase in voltage on a lipo is a 1 MPh increase. the reason lipo is better is the C rating discharge rate so the lipo will deliver power quicker.
That was Hilux weather! Glad you're ok!
The Gorgon looks like a good entry level truck. It doesn't really do much for me though. I think it is over hyped but that is just my opinion and my opinion isn't worth much.
Everything Arrma make is entry level
It’s the modern day lunch box 👍
I've just got back into RC and I can't even steer the bloody things 😂 I'm ok going one way then when I turn around I'm all over the place, it's quite frustrating 😂😂
Mine has gone 53 mph on an all Traxxas VXL3s drivetrain on stock tires. Actually a little fun stock.
Nice!
i think arrma is the best RC company out here. i loved my talion so much, loved it more than the revo or any other car. i miss it. i had the v3 talion, upgraded everything. it was so sick, you could send it off a 30ft jump and land flat ground all day and never break a thing.
Holy crap that battery is right out of 1999 I remember those lol
Thanks for bringing the proper Allen back. 😂
I like how it kept changing colors!
Hehe. The driver name on the body: "S. L. Jackson". Snakes on an Monster Truck!
"smart chargha"
lolol
A hump pack! 😱 love that gopher fing and cool watch had black version of that back in the day!
Smooth colour shifting :)
Haha.. thanks
Thumbs up for Allen!
I really liked the cinematography and editing. Made me miss my TMaxx and Revo days.
Great edit when popping the body on! 👌👍 cool entry level vehicle for sure! 🤘thanks for sharing Phil.
Where is the brushless video at ?
Nicely done all around review. Couldn't agree more about the bodies, but a quick Gorilla tape job seems to have sorted it out. Fun little all around basher, especially based on the cost. I too bought two, one for bashing and one for speed runs. Couldn't be happier
it's the Voltage replacement, and a HUGE upgrade from that. I have the big Kratons, and I still want one of these 😁
The Gorgonites want their ride back! 😂
Best Gorgon review by far!!!
Just trying to compete with the traxxas stampede maybe you should do a comparison video of the two.
harder than I thought🧐🤩.
Small question: do you know approximately when the Df 4s pro will be on the table🙏🏻🥰?
Great video! You really went all out on filming and editing this one!
Thank you. Appreciate it…. 👌
Well the proof is there Tomley... Drips do get wet!!! 🤣. Only Joking matey... Great video. I like the Gorgon. Nice compact design, great for kids and it can easily be upgraded. Apart from the body it looks pretty tough aswell. I am waiting for the Granite Grom though!!!
Interesting fact about batteries, there is quite a big difference between NiMh and Lipo, but I do not find there to be a huge difference between the L-ion pack of my HBX 16889A and Lipo of my HBX 16889A Pro when running both packs in the HBX Pro, except that I get a lot longer run time from the L-Ion pack.
lol
"You better fkn like this video"
done.
😅 Legend
I absolutely die 💀😂🤣😆 every time that ALLEN clip shows up in your video.
Alan… Alan… Alan… haha
Wow and to rotate colors what a time schedule I wish
I'm honestly surprised that HORIZON HOBBY has released this for one reason: ECX. I don't know how popular ECX is in the UK, but here in the USA, ECX has a strong cult following. HORIZON hobby bought them out years ago but ECX made quality 2wd rc vehicles. I own 3 of them. The Brutus, the Ruckus 1/10 and 1/18th version and finally the Beatbox 1/36th scale. I've put them through some tests and they handle pretty well. From watching your video the Gorgon is kinda weak sauce compared to ECX. Loved your video though.
That's because Arrma has a deluded fan base that will buy any crap they churn out
dare i say it, its a bit like the Vanessas Lunchbox it looks like the same kind of beast handling wise and also damage on the shell wise So its gonna be lots of Fun.
Why didnt they make it 4wd capable, the mega range was an upgradable platform what a shame this isnt the same. Nice though and the buying price isnt bad at all.
It kind of reminds of the stampede as far as build but seems a bit tougher
They should stop selling those nimh packs. Most people will throw them away immediately. Not very environment friendly 👎
Yeah most of us will, but they have a blue version with no pack or charger for $140. Likely the one I will pick up in the near future.
I'll lipo swap without even try that battery.
Ya i have one and cant use it once i have upgraded. And it wont fit in any classic cars because of the hump. If they went to classic tamiya style packs at least we can use them for SOMETHING else. But ya they are a waste
I use those nimh. They are great. You can keep them ready to race fully charged. But i wont buy new ones....Lipo is better for most people.
They are more user friendly though and they do the version without battery and charger. It's a good idea to have an understanding of lipo's before using them, if not used correctly they can be dangerous or you could just end up killing the battery(I see this a lot)
Awesome transitions! Pretty seamless, well done! Great video as always.
Thanks Paul
