She was voted very highly lists of classical and flamenco guitarists, a real actual virtuoso. But she was also a sparkly comedy actress in stuff like Love Boat back then, so it overshadowed her true musical talent. Worth checking.
Nita Strauss will forever be my favorite female guitarist, shes incredibly talented, and absolutely gorgeous! I met her once last year and she just seems to be so nice and genuinely down to earth❤

If you still own that instrument (with original case) and have provenance proving that it was indeed Ms. Tharpe's guitar, it's probably worth well over five figures, possIbly six. And I'm not challenging your claim, I'm just telling you. It's worth serious dollars if it was actually hers and you can prove it. In fact, even if it _wasn't_ hers and it's a genuine, not-monkeyed-with, early 60's white "Les Paul Custom" (became "SG" later, that 'new for 1961' body style was called a Les Paul first) with original case, it's _still_ worth a large sum of money.

But the truth is Joni is a very capable multi-instrumentalist with an incredibly nuanced understanding of chord theory. Her tunings make perfect sense to a pianist, and were often more convenient to the fingers allowing her to contrate on her vocal performance. It’s very telling that she had a hard time finding a bass player until her 7th album when she met Jaco Pastorius, it takes a very creative musical mind to keep up with what Joni is actually doing.
Joni Mitchell maybe should be first she knows all those exotic tunings scales etc but Sister Rosetta a pioneer legend when it was hard for women extra hard for women of color.

But the truth is Joni is a very capable multi-instrumentalist with an incredibly nuanced understanding of chord theory. Her tunings make perfect sense to a pianist, and were often more convenient to the fingers allowing her to contrate on her vocal performance. It’s very telling that she had a hard time finding a bass player until her 7th album when she met Jaco Pastorius, it takes a very creative musical mind to keep up with what Joni is actually doing.
Joni Mitchell maybe should be first she knows all those exotic tunings scales etc but Sister Rosetta a pioneer legend when it was hard for women extra hard for women of color.

I actually saw her and my sister grew up with them I grew up with them from her music being 10 years older than me she knew them from the get-go almost and I knew them from then on so almost my entire life so and just surprised to see certain people on here and certain people not even on here! But heart is probably considered one of the greatest bands Barracuda and so many others awesome

THANK YOU for #1!!! I’ve been talking about her for decades and am always shocked at how few people have ever even heard her name and almost always don’t know who she was. For the life of me I don’t understand why…..this woman is where it all began!! If I could go back in time and meet some people, she and Howlin Wolf (two of the OG cornerstones) would for sure be on my list!
