That's because, in the entire history of having built anything on those beaches, there have never been floods that displaced that much sediment. Pinellas County has been mostly untouched by hurricanes for almost 100 years. There isn't a person alive who has seen this kind of damage in this area.
Stupidity. Like building a city beneath sea level then being shocked when it floods. Or building a home downstream of a dam. Common sense tells ya the dam could fail and you’d be in deep shyt. But hey, maybe it’s worth the view to some. 😂
I grew up in Clearwater, we had a "ratty little" home on Clearwater Beach. We always understood the power of hurricanes--mother nature rules. Yikes. I’m sorry for everyone affected by the storm. 🙏🏻💔 I love this beach too but glad I moved back up north. I’d rather shovel snow in the cold than sand in the heat. Sand is so heavy. Also, snow doesn’t ruin your car like salt water does.

This is just ridiculous! Using tax payer money every-time it rains or there is a hurricane. It would be cheaper to buy these houses out and demolish. Pay back and saving for Floridian’s would be enormous within a few years
The effort and the amount of work that is going to be required just to rehabilitate the beaches here and removal of the mountains of sand and cleanup of this relatively small area is going to be staggering. Compared to Western North Carolina and the Florida Big Bend, though, these people got off lightly even though they may not feel that way just now.
