So you know - you are the voice in my head when I’m trying here in Colorado. I love the bits of bloopers (dropping hooks, jumping ahead to the squirrel fur) you are amazing and these moments of humanity are excellent! Thanks!
I really appreciate your channel. Top of my list. I used to tie in my teens and early twenties, but life got busy and all my equipment and materials ended up in storage. I found your channel a couple years ago and it was my motivation to dust off the vice! Anyway, I had surgery yesterday and I am at the beginning of a 3 week recovery. Any videos you post during this time would be greatly appreciated! The enjoyment I get from watching you tie will help me heal! Take care.
Tied up quite a few of this great little dun pattern in hook sizes 18-22 ...in the right cooler conditions, they've worked very well in this year's low water levels on my local wild brown UK trout rivers (and they certainly catch trees very well too :)...I put 2 flies up on my tippet/leader set up spaced 50 cm apart to give me more chance of seeing them on the water, especially the size 22's 😂...very satisfying to tie (with magnified glasses :)...and the trout seem to take the small sizes very positively indeed ...thanks for sharing your skill and tips Davie
I enjoy watching you work! My old eyes can't see as used to. And my old fingers won't do exactly what I tell them too. It's good to see a master at work.
Very nice pattern indeed - and your approach serves as a nice confidence builder for those of us who tend to shy away from #20 and smaller! Many thanks!
Ah a man after my own heart. It kills me to waste materials and good CDC is so expensive. I've used the dubbing but the river I fish most is famous for its small flies down to 32. I also love the shuttlecocks, so this will make it into my box for sure. Thanks again for the videos.
When matching the actual natural item the fish are taking. So many anglers focus on colour and style of their fly. Then totally ignore scale. When a size #18 black buzzer is hatching then #16/#20 are in the ballpark. A #8/#10 is akin to playing pool using a football painted white as the cue ball
10s and 12s are now rarely used, maybe a small daddy in a wind.Go to sizes are 14, 16,18 on 4lb mono and getting more takes. It took 50 years, now passing on my wisdom to anyone who cares to listen lol
Cracking pattern Davie tried it on a #19 tiemco hook straightened on the first cast when a rainbow hammered it, fulling mill hooks ordered. Keep up the good work
Hi Jack, I can't thank you enough for your donation and thanks to my channel, I'll add you to this months draw so if your number comes up I will be in touch...Thank you again.. All the very best Davie..
I'm always watching and studying your amazing tying increase. Please tell me one. What's the difference between Shuttlecock and Yellow Owl? Please let me know if there are any distinctive features or functional differences rather than color differences.
Hi Andrew, I used an olive diamond-brite on the thorax of the dark olive version in the video, it is a great pattern when Blue Winged Olives are coming off..I'm glad you liked it.. All the very best Davie..
Hi Martin, Because of the style of hook I used it is slightly larger than a standard shanked hook especially the gape but I would say though many of the modern hooks are a good hook size bigger..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
Nice tie Dave. Hey I’m having some real trouble tying caddis wings, can you help? I can’t seem to get the hair to align, can’t keep the material out of stacker aligned, is it my elk patches or me? If you have any instructions you can link I would appreciate it Dave, looking for a summer dry dropper rigs thanks Dave!
Hi Scott, Just make sure when you cut a piece of deer hair for the wing to remove the fine underfur from the deer hair before you stack it as this will stop them stacking...I have attached a playlist of many of the caddis patterns I have on youtube for you to look through...I hope this helps you and let me know how you get on.. All the very best Davie.. ua-cam.com/video/zRT0OryiLyQ/v-deo.html
Hi John, I have a PayPal donation button on my UA-cam home page so when someone donates that month I send them a number by using their email which I get from PayPal..Each month I giveaway a full box of flies as well as the flies I film and tye over that month and in this months draw I will also e giving away a small box of these dries in different colours which I personally fish myself.. All the very best Davie
Благодарю, Дэви! Как всегда, приятно смотреть на работу мастера! Отличный вариант обманки!👍🤝🇰🇿

I don't think I have ever seen anyone tie a size 22 with such ease before. Really nice pattern and full of great advice. Thank you as always Davie.
Great fly Davie. Lots of variety to this fly thanks again.
Awesome again ! Love the tiny fly's !

A deadly wee pattern Davie looks great
Thanks Davie. Great ideas.
I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you.
Mike
Smallest I've went is a 20 and I was like Clarence the cross eyed lion 🤣
Same here any smaller than 18 I’d need a microscope
I can't even grab a hook that small. You are the master of fly tying.
Nicely tied Davy 👍, I got to use a double reading glasses to tie that small size hook 😆
I enjoy watching you work! My old eyes can't see as used to. And my old fingers won't do exactly what I tell them too. It's good to see a master at work.
Very nice as always thanks for sharing
Fantastic mate think I'll have a go myself later👍 Cheers Colin.
Great pattern for those invisible hatches. Using up waste and thread. Thanks for sharing Davie.
Love seeing previously tied patterns downsized and explained. Great tie as always!
Very nice pattern indeed - and your approach serves as a nice confidence builder for those of us who tend to shy away from #20 and smaller! Many thanks!
Neat and quick. I’ll give it a go. Thank you.
Great tie, will definitely add them to my dry box
Great tie Davie 👌
Lovely tying as usual Davie, I love this fly and it fishes really well on my small loch.
Stay well, big Davie

Very nice. I am okay tying at the vice, using my magnifying light. Tying on a tippet is a different story

lovely fly davie
I'm loving it!

Exactamente lo que necesitaba, gracias Davie
Excellent tying as usual davie 👌
Looks like a really productive fly. Used to be able to tie #24 parachute Adams, don’t think my fingers will do that anymore, but these might work.
Beautiful fly!
Very nice!
Brillant as always. Thanks Sir.
Perfect Again Davie!
Quality as always davie 👍
I have been working on this size and you give me an idea.
Thank you.
Getting a lot of refusals on a size 12 so maybe this is the answer! 😁
Looks like it will work for trapped chironomids too.
very nice
Thanks!

Lovely fly Davie. What dubbing did you use on the dark olive version? Thanks

Great wee pattern Davie, not least to use up the CDC. How is the sizing of that hook compared to 'old' sizes?
Hi Martin,

Is this fly just for rivers please?
Hi Trevor,
No it fishes just as well on the lochs as it does in the river and even at this size..
All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail thanks Davie I’ll tie some up for Stillwaters
