I think Mike Mangini had a double bass video and brought up something similar about practicing being balanced in “weird” positions.

This brought back memories from when I started learning double bass back in -91. There wasn't much help to be had back then.
I discovered that same exact phenomena many years ago.

Looks Like He uses weak shin muscles on His right foot. Left foot Looks good. Use calves instead of shin muscles.
The muscles you’re referring to do not perform the same function.
The tibialis anterior, and similar muscles in your shin do not “push” down your ankle. They lift and rotate your foot.
Your 2 calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) are solely responsible for lowering your foot with force.
