- It’s almost comical how fast Thomas Lang can rip around the kit 🤯
If you’re looking for new applications for your single stroke roll then this is the lesson for you: • Applying Technique On ...
Oh and by the way -- we don’t expect you to play as fast as Thomas. It takes serious time and dedication to develop this kind of speed.

This lesson humbles most drummers:)
Thank u Thomas
And remember that your ego isn't the audience. Skill when measured by a consumer (Primarily non-drummers, or even worse non-musicians) isn't oriented towards your technical abilities. Skill is assessed by whether or not it sounds good and most importantly, if it sounds good in the context of the mix.
I can appreciate all degrees of technicality because I play any instrument I can get my hands on, I produce my own and mix others music.
The community of people that can say exactly that however, is growing so that makes me happy!
Let us all appreciate as many layers as possible!

It is simple. Single stroke triplets. Not easy though to play them all over the place at 280 bpm

I love when talented musicians and artists go "it's very simple" 😂
Well, it actually is simple, not easy though
@@illbeback2219 Mhmm. Says you! 😂 (I know, doesn't make much of a difference though)
It is you just have to put the time in
@@hugoshubert I read somewhere (it was a greatly put point but I forget where I read it, anyway) that the reason most people who are very good at something have a hard time teaching what they do is because they have a hard time breaking down what is routine to them in a way that someone who is trying to learn would understand. It went on to talk about how that was due to the fact that you can't really reach the 10,000+ hours they put in to just be able to come up and try ideas like that. There really isn't a shortcut and so in something like this drum video its just a matter of him having done his rudiments for so many hours that he can speed up and down as he pleases. They can really only communicate how to practice what they are teaching, closing the gap to execute what they are teaching is our job I guess.
Most of us have a gap between conceiving a musical idea and communicating it but true masters have no lag between inception and execution, that's why a lot of great musicians say they don't think in terms of theory. The thousands of hours have lead them to develop and intuition that just knows,Victor Wooten is a great example of this.Kinda like the whole Picasso "it took me 20 years to make that in 10 minutes"
It’s called the Curse of Knowledge. A form of cognitive bias.
"It's very simple, my arms were made by Boston Dynamics"
Underrated comment
Thomas Lang's master drum class: "Okay, here's our exercise. NOW PLAY IT REALLY FAST"
I mean theres really not much more to it. With time it will start working
"Put the accent on the rack Tom, then just speed it up"

"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." - Jesus
Jesus is the Christ. Jesus is the Son of God. Turn from your sin. Repent. The soul that sins shall die. The wages of sin is death. Believe in Jesus and you will be saved from the wrath of God.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. There is none righteous, no, not one. There is none who understands. There is none who seeks after God. All have turned aside. There is none who does good, no, not one.
Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their paths are ruin and misery, and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.
But God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly. Jesus is the gate to heaven. If anyone enters through Him, he will be saved. Jesus gives them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of His hand.
In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Jesus opened the eyes of the blind. He unstopped the ears of the deaf. He made the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Jesus was despised and rejected by mankind. He was a man of suffering, familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces. He was despised, and the world held him in low esteem.
For those who have believed in him, Jesus was pierced for their transgressions; he was crushed for their iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought them peace, and with his wounds they are healed. For their sake God made Jesus to be sin, who knew no sin, so that in him they might become the righteousness of God.
Unless you turn from sin and repent, you will perish. You will die in your sins. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. On the day of judgment, you will be thrown into the lake of fire, in utter darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched, and the smoke of your torment goes up forever and ever, and you will have no rest, day or night. You will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.
But if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. The Lord is patient toward everyone, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in the Lord Jesus Christ. Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
"If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it."
"But it's just single strokes.."
His hand coordination on switching tom makes me jealous, i cant do it without hitting the tom rims
Practice makes perfect! hundreds of hours of practice that is 😉
You do a five minute single double stroke warmup every day, then practice this getting progressively faster 15 min a day, you will play like a different human in a month.
Progress in music is mostly linear, with the odd little leap that happens because you learned something new that lets you rework what you already know and make something different with it.
If you keep hitting the rims you have to lift your sticks higher when you start it. Just like you have to lift your stick in order to hit the crash cymbal or rye cymbal
@@FUBAR1986 I'm a bit of neat-freak (using the term very loosely) and every time, after having played a song, I see my sticks having been chipped from either hitting the rims quite a number of times, or hitting the side of the cymbals (perhaps more than I should). And my chipped sticks always worry me... I don't wanna replace them so soon. They're about a few months old now.
I tiny adjustment in the rack can help with that.
Thomas has always been a fucking beast of a drummer. He’s so insanely solid.
"It's just simple". Says the guy off camera not playing drums. 🤣
This reminds of the “how to draw an owl”
Meme
It's simple!
Lol “It’s just single strokes”
*rapid machine gun fire drumming ensues*
Seriously though, there really is no secret technique or lesson that Lang could tell us that would make it easier to suddenly play that fast like there could be with the “draw the rest of the fucking owl” meme. Wanna be able to do this? You really just gotta practice your ass off; there are no shortcuts to being that damn fast and clean. Rise and grind, boys!
A prime example of how "simple" does not always mean "easy."
Exactly true. When he does it slowly, it does look simple. I could do the pattern, slowly 🐌, and I'm not a drummer. The difficult part is refining the precision and being able to speed it up, "a little". And that takes a lot of practice. Simple and easy are not the same. Something can be complex and easy, or simple and difficult.
Sometimes i feel dream theatre didnt take him because they thought he will dominate the whole band 😂
Idk he's got a competly diffrent sound I don't think it woulda fit with the music
Mangini can be faster than Lang if he wants lol
Mangini seems like a great fit for dream theater. And he’s a tremendous drummer. But Thomas Lang? Can’t compare. Lang is just not human.
Why not human ? He has a good technique but there are so many drummers as good as him, or better.
You could be right. And of course he’s human. Can you please tell me someone who is better. I would like to watch. But for sure you’re probably right. I just haven’t seen anyone. Not even close. Would love to though.
“It’s just simple” absolute perfect timing. 🤣😂😆😆😆
Dudes definitely a cyborg
Druminator teaching his students " Arrgh, Faster, you idiot!"
He really is the Terminator of the drumming world, and not just because of his Austrian roots and similarity to Arnie.
"It's just simple." Well l've played for 58 years, toured, recorded, played for thousands at a time, won drum contests, and l can't do it. But l play mean waltz!
LMAO! Great comment!
"you can do many things with simple strokes."
Phrasing!
“It’s very simple” he says🙂 on my way to guitar center🙃
Reminds me of a video of Paul Gilbert playing a lick on the guitar and then speeds it up really fast , “see easy , my fingers hardly move “
Thomas Lang is a BOSS! He does things on the kit I've never seen done by anyone else. He is Amazing!
wow this is a cool little vid, i like it. that speed is incredible. i will go and give this a try!!
Thomas Lang your incedible
I was hoping this channel would respark my interest in drumming, if anything it is scaring me away
Never dude, never worry about what other drummers are playing. Be like that horse in a race with blinders on, just worry about your own race. It's really cool to be able to play this fast, but get in a band and start playing and you'll realize that you're very rarely going to do things like this. You're much better off being an in the pocket drummer with good dynamics and feeling than being the fastest drummer in the world...
At the end of the day, drums are fun. Make sure you're having fun before you try to god mode it.
And the only difference between you and pros is literally time dedicated
I’ve never understood that way of thinking, when I see a really good guitarist (in my case) like Tosin Abasi or Brandon Ellis rip some shit, I don’t get discouraged. I go “okay, what can I learn from that and maybe apply something to my vocabulary “
That tone of the bass drum is killer!
This is like a yngwie malmsteen guitar lesson for drums. "Here it is slow, now speed it up a little"
"You can do many things with single strokes" 😏
And the drum nerds are like “eh he ONLY plays single stroke stuff”
Thomas Lang is a god amongst men
Thomas Lang has some major skills. Love watching his videos and tutorials
“Very simple”
... right left, right left, right left, right left, right left, right left.. and if you pass Taco Bell you’ve gone too far.. 💀
"Learn to play drums"
"Its simple!"
They said...,
It's simple, not easy.
Yea its just single strokes.... Simple
That crash sounds killer
One of my fav drummer
His slow is my fastest
look how close his toms are to the bass drum.. keep that in mind when going fast - he's not reaching far.
yeahhhh... concise arrangement of the drum set is a major part of the whole drumming culture
Well yeah it's not a pissing contest to see how far you can keep drums away from each other and still play. My toms sit right above my snare and floor, why leave a bunch of space to have to traverse?
@@fromulus For the aesthetic. On the plus side your setup hides more of the drummer, which is nice.
THANK you! I don’t know how many people I’ve tried to point this out too!!! “ADJUST YOUR RACK!!!”🤣
@@mikehuff9793 and seat height ! :) I was playing too low in my seat for some reason last year.. and it was painful. I think my seat was slowly lowering itself. LOL cheers .
OMG!
He's a BEAST!
Thanks for the knowledge
The more I see of Thomas Lang on Drumeo, the more I love him. I had heard of him, but really never took time to look at him. The control and independence he exudes is astounding. I think the first time I seen him on Drumeo, he was talking independence, and started to do stupid fast paradiddles with his feet. Not that I've never seen it, but It has literally never occurred to me to try them. Just that exercise in and of it's self has helped immensely. Thank for the stellar content @Drumeo . Triplets, so simple lol.
Lang is a BEAST.
Dude's the sickest drummer EVER!!!

The greatest drummer alive. Lang is from another dimension.
yee, and then all ignorant people saying Estepario is the best hahaha Thomas or Chris turner beat the fuck him up easily hahaha
Absolute machine,

Thomas Lang is a great drummer. I first became aware of him about 15 years ago.
"Just a little faster".....
*Breaks sound barrier*
that "just simple" at the end😂😂😂
The precision of those strokes as well 💀🤣
Thomas Lang is so much fun to watch .. so powerful
Dude ...thank you ! This opened up so much for me!
Best drummer alive 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thomas is a beast!!!
This totally makes sense. Now applying it is a whole different story.
This guy is a beast of a drummer!! 👍
He just blows me away.
That 3 note pattern is how Buddy Rich would go from floor tom to snare drum.
Thomas is a badass!
Dude is a true master ❤
Super simple after 30 years of constant practice ❤
His kit sounds F'ing Phenomenal
Dang, I've been looking for videos like this

Look at how good these drums look

a perfect example of how any demonstration of skill, no matter what discipline or how advanced or complex it is, can still be broken down into the fundamentals. anyone who has ever mastered anything, mastered the basics first.
Dude u dont start that shit with the phrase "its very simple" Lmao
He's amazing gj 👏
Is this short 20 minutes long? No it's just impossible to stop watching it!
One of my fav segments on Drumeo with Lang.
"It‘s very simple.“
My brain: 🤯
Thomas Lang is such a beast behind the drums, so freaking 👍 and thinks it's very simple, but in fact it's so hard to pull off 😂💯👍
Ben Johnson says "it's simple, just the on foot for the other, now a little FASTER" AND RUNS THE WORLD RECORD TIME 100 METERS...come on..a little faster 🤣
Tbh he is right, this actual stroke pattern is very simple. However, that speed is pure technical prowess gained from tons and tons of practice
Who knew drums could be such an effective core workout?
That kind of stick control is also great for beating away the chicks he’s probably mobbed by.
I can think of other ways to put that 'stick control' to use.
Teachers like Thomas are what i miss the most about drumeo i may have to invest the cash on another 12 month run.. Jared n Co are great but the guests make you feel enthusiastic wanting to jump on to the drums as they speak
Tom is one of the kindest humans I’ve ever met. He can also play a beat or two 🎉🎉
That's why PRACTICING IS MANDATORY 🙂
Great everything Those drums sound amazing
dude is a literal robot
Simple so simple you make it look easy
Thomas is a freaking beast. I've never see anything like that from him
What would impress me is to be able to compose songs through multiple tempo and meter changes quickly.
This guy is the best drummer in the world.
This is what I have been looking for. Thanks drumeo.
For me this was the best example actual talent and skills. The man is amazing😲
