After the olympic competition she was asked by national tv reporter: Who is the best female climber in the world. And she had no other option than saying: I am, followed by a laugh
@@skyj451 Well the video made it really clear, that she is the best competition climber. It know can be debated what to define as the best overall climber, but she is obviusoly not the best rock climber as far as we know now.
The pre-Olympic meme was that Janja just comes out and flashes all the boulder problems. Then she did exactly that today in qualifying. It was remarkable
Yep. Just extraordinary to watch. Route setters must be scratching their heads as to how to set a problem she can't flash without making it impossible for the other climbers.
Sad she gave up on B3 in the finals. She didn’t need it for the win, but would have been great to top every Olympic boulder. Still, way to go, Janja! Incredible, and well deserved. 🥇
@@EntirelyPointlessContent Yeah, prob true. Maybe I was just too hype in the moment. Before the final attempt it seemed like she’d already decided to conserve energy for Lead after. Idk, just silly armchair commentary. Don’t mean to take anything away from her performance.

There is no way anyone loves climbing and doesnt love her. She is just the most fun to watch out of any climbers out there men or women. Fantastic embassador of our sport.
I honestly don't particularly enjoy watching her, especially lately. @@xalingding I feel like the odds are stacked against strong lead climbers in the Olympics. where so many people focus on static strength, janja EXCELS in being dynamic. her flow is so smooth and controlled yet so powerful and precise at the same time. amazing.
It was fun to watch Janja completely dominate and the Danish commentator wondering aloud if she would be allowed to compete against the men some day as an exhibition type event, just to see how she would stack up because she has nothing left to prove in the women's category. Would be truly amazing to see how she'd do on the men's boulder problems.
I'm a bit embarrassed being from Slovenia not very far from where she lives and not even knowing how good she really was O.o I mean I knew she was really good, I've seen a video of her win and everyone praising her, but I honestly did not understand she was that good. I'm amazed. RESPECT. There is somewhat of a tradition over here. Lots of people love to climb all sorts of styles.
Such an outstanding and stunning athlete - she has written history and will write a lot more further on, I wish her to win gold at Tokyo and if not there she will in Paris. Janja you are one of my favorite athletes in the climbing scene and even tough that I don't have this flexibility and will never have you are one of my idols! Keep on rocking, I hope you will have a lot of fun and won't retire in the next 10 years.
Others are working hard others also have talent endurance strenght coodination etc but she just somehow got that extra bit of skill noone else is able to achieve its fascinating
Slovenia, seriously. Best world cup climber, 2 cyclists, 1 Tour de France champion the other also grand tour champion and Olympic gold time trial, basketball wunderkid.
I know an amazing lady who was an Olympic qualifier for track back in the 60's for Slovenia. She is in her 70s, biking 60-100km a day. She said sport is just part of her upbringing and culture, always has been, for both men and women.
Janja explains it the best why she's the best: "Talent is not enough. You must be a hard worker." Talent, climbing sense, flexibility, those you can be born with. The power and endurance Janja has, those don't come easy. I still remember watching her debut lead comp against Kim Jain, thinking "there's no way this girl can go at the pace she's going with the kind of power output on a lead route". But she did. There's no reason to believe some random comment on UA-cam, but if someone really wants to identify Janja's weakness, it's that her efficiency and calmness on a lead route is still behind that of Kim Jain. Every fraction of a percentage of energy used matters on a lead route, cause that fraction of a percent could be the difference between topping out and falling off the penultimate hold.
People are always looking for explanations why is somebody the best. Why? She is just awesome in what she does because she has a gift and lots of patience.
I know nothing about climbing. Like, literally nothing at all. And even I am amazed by how graceful she looks while climbing. This is out of this world, really a once in a millenium athlete.

Many female climbers like Anna stohr, shauna coxey, alex puccion, miho nonaka, julian whorm, ja in kim , akiho noguchi, now its the era of Janja Ganbret..love to watch her climbing !!
I watch some of the world championships where Janja involved, and one thing that outstanding from Janja is that she just simply and smart enough to implement the basic rules of physics such as momentum, vector, etc. Knowing those rules make her know when, how and where to jump / hold / step etc.
I get what you're trying to say, but i think she's the exact opposite. She is the athlete you see barndoor and swing the most. These are moves that climbers always try to limit, because its really strenuous to hold a barndoor swing. Its even her signature style. People call being pretty limp on your swing the Janja swing.
Feels a little like a GOAT level from a mainstream sport that just happened to find themselves in a slightly smaller more niche sport and is just functioning a level above. A bit like Esther Vegeer for example.
Crazy to see the difference in mentality and narrative from easter and western europe. There's luck (genes, access to the things, luck-destiny), and the hard work to put all of that to use.
