      Joseph...I have the first version of Sibelius and I love it. Except...I can't burn an audio CD. I don't want the new Avid version so I'm looking around.

      @@michaelangelus7355 that's just what they were referring to, the team at Sibelius was fired and then rehired by steinburg to work on a direct competitor called Dorico, maybe check into that?

    Daniel Spreadbury is a legend. Would love to sit down with him and have coffee just to chat. (will probably never ever happen)

    Looks really nice - and less potentially frustrating than Sibelius occasionally can be.

    Back in the day I remember using early versions of Cubase and the Atari Alpha programs. You played in the music via midi and when it showed up on screen it was full of performance nuances which came out terrible on screen but sounded right. Then you simply ticked an interpretation box /quantise and the manuscript looked almost perfect. Since those days the features seem to have gone so complex that those clever interpretations have got lost. Does anyone know if Dorico has gone back to the days when it looked right no matter how you played it it in? e.g Shorter played notes lengthened to the correct meaningful value.
    Since those days I have used Sibelius and modern versions of Cubase and find the manuscripts require lots of editing and therefore not as good as the Old Atari and earlier versions which were quick and effective.

    now I cant read or write sheet music, I'm not even a good player live, but I am a creator of music, if I already have a Cubase performance can I import I n to dorico and it will be correct. with out me having to fix anything.

    Oops ..hit send I was writing could native instruments make kontakt run vst III ? Have they not done that because of development costs or do you think, know that it is coming? There are hundreds of developers who code on the kontakt platform so I guess they would also have to implement VST iii capability........

      Yeah, amazing how they seem to have gone out of their way to choose the most un-musical example they could.

    The promo videos feature a lot of interesting talk, but not enough practical demonstration of playback mode of different instruments, instrumental combinations, rtc.

    Judging by the lenses on his specs, Daniel is so farsighted he should be seeing the moons of Jupiter with the naked eye.

    I can tell what else you like to do with your computer by the wear pattern on your keys. ;) Particular keys that is.

    "compatible with vst3 instruments..." Just how many vst3 instruments do actually exist apart from Steinberg's own Halion range?

    • @chanhokim7750

      obviously, Vienna Symphony series, East West Symphony series, and Kontakt are huge VST3 softwares perfect for Dorico. :)

    nice. would be great to see integration with cubase , hope that comes later. I'd like to see Sibelius's arse kicked.

    Jede noch so vertrackte Aufgabe kriegt ein Notensetzer mit SIBELIUS hin. Mit DORICO aber nicht in jedem Fall. Was oberflächlich schneller und komfortabler erscheinen mag, wird durch andere Programmideen wieder ausgebremst.

    I am a sceptic. Again million hours for studying... The future of music notation is in software like StaffPad, especially on Surface Pro Studio.

    Nick your the best and your more musical than you give yourself credit for, but this is a slight conundrum, the composers and musicians I would think who would want to write with notation software vs Midi, except for students are going to want the best sounding libraries to do so, therefore if this only plays back vst 3, then a huge sales market opportunity will be lost. It won't take long for the competitors who allow other libraries to function to catch up to the bells and whistles introduced here, its just coding and very good coding I should say, so don't get me wrong this is still very good software, engineering, but I find this limitation disappointing. The library he referenced is not good enough for a mockup.

    • @steinberg
      @steinberg 7 років тому +1

      Hello, as already mentioned in other social media channels and the Steinberg forums, it will allow third party VST3 libraries and VSTi, and it is not about other competitors catching up, it is about 3rd party developers implementing VST3. It is like when the 64 bit operating system appeared and there where only a few 64 bit plug-ins now most developers offer a 64 bit version and are dropping now 32-bits. On the other hand, there might be some well behaved VST 2.4 that will work with Dorico at the beginning, until they migrate to the better standard.

    • @indiefilmcomposer
      @indiefilmcomposer 7 років тому

      I would love to see more VST III development, but Migration to 64 bit plug ins was a necessity driven by operating systems becoming 64 bit, we don't have that gravity with VST III development. For example could native instruments make kontakt If this can run other VST that's good news.

      whole note = semibreve, half note = minim, quarter note = crotchet, eighth note = quaver, sixteenth note = semiquaver, measure = bar, staff = stave. Hope that helps!
