- Flying Oshawa To Oshkosh AirVenture 2023!
I'm flying C-FMVU from our home base of Oshawa Ontario Canada (CYOO) to EAA Airventure 2023 held at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Oshkosh Wisconsin. In the video I talk about the registration mark, and how there could be a C-GMVU & a C-IMVU flying in Canada and ATC has to keep them all straight. I looked it up and C-GMVU is a Cessna 185 based in Dorval Qc. C-IMVU isn't being used right now, but could end up on an ultralight (I is for ultralight)

Thanks for watching everyone!
For those who use the subtitles / closed captions... I can see that YT can't quite get it right.
I think you can type those yourself. If you want help, I’d be willing.
Legend says Toronto is still looking for a missing MUV haha I enjoyed the increasingly dry read backs of the tail number
I was on flight tracker the other day and put C-FMVU in the search bar. To my surprise it showed you in the air. I followed you into Oshkosh. Now I see it from the video. Fun. Thanks.
That B roll of MVU going by the Garmin tent on its way to Dynon! 😅 love it
This had me ROFLMAO!🤣
You are the spitting image of another youtube channel that my wife watches for cooking tips.
God bless the Oshkosh tower during EAA. Unbelievable amount of traffic.
@GlensHangar -- Thank you so much for your kindness at Oshkosh! It truly was a pleasure meeting you!
"MVU was a little slow getting off the runway this time because it is loaded down to within about 250lb of its gross maximum weight."
I regularly fly a Cessna 150 out of Buttonville within 5lb of its max gross, so this seems fine. :)
Nice work getting a video out so quick!
I though the last shot was funny with you being towed past the Garmin booth as you are headed to the Dynon booth.
In my younger days, we travelled on a dmall ane often. Love watching you on your adventures and reminiscing otlthet days!!!
I'm a Ramp Supe with Porter at YTZ, keep looking for MVU, hope to see you on the island some day
👉I’m in no rush to get there👈
For the Frenchman that I am, that’s the sign of a wise man 👏
Cheers from the French alps Canada and America . ( your flight following system is amazing)
That was an absolutely gorgeous view as you were flying with the fluffy little clouds spotted here and there. Also thank you for answering a big question I had regarding the callsign, I wondered why you usually truncated C-FMVU to just MVU, and now I know.
Oshkosh native here, 67 years and counting. How we love having Airventure in town! Welcome to Oshkosh!
If you notice the fuel leaking out right before takeoff, that is how the fuel tanks are designed in airplanes. That is a pressure release valve. As the pressure changes air may be expelled or sucked in to the tanks in order to keep pressure standard. When the pressure is released, sometimes a bit of the fuel leaks out.
thanks for clearing that up i saw it as well.
Thank you so much for explaining, I got a little bit worried seeing liquid dripping off.
It was nice to meet you today, Glen. Enjoy the rest of your time at Osh. Safe travels home!
Even though I’m not a pilot. I enjoy your channel. Thanks.
Many thanks Glen. Looking forward to future videos on the Oshkosh 2023 event and yes, wish you a great time over there!
That was *awesome,* Glen! Thank you! Can't wait to see more!
Nice! Looking forward to your KOSH videos.
Went to Oshkosh in 1985 with my dear friend Howie. Kincardine to Sault Ste Marie, had do some interesting manoeuvering to get through the storms VFR and arrive at Oshkosh safely. Amazing trip, amazing man.
Welcome!
Do like that you got there early, ' No hurry means less worry.' Great video...
Totally AWESOME adventure
great video Glen i love the views glad you made it safely happy flying.
Well done! Thanks for sharing.. Beautiful plane!
Really enjoy these
So excited to see you at OSH!!
Hope the weather stays fair and you have a good trip!
Good job Glen. Great scenery. Hope to see you and MVU at Osh. Cheers
Subbed! I like the pace of your video and look forward to seeing you and your plane when I get to Airventure on Wednesday!
Safe travels
Looking forward to seeing MVU at the show
Welcome to the USA. What a butter landing in Mich
Cool fly, happy for you to be part of the show. Enjoy your stay and looking fwd to see the next video.
Look forward to seeing you next week.
Very cool video, great radio work......
Safe travels my friend!
Thank you for the enjoyable video. Beautiful aircraft. Welcome back to the USA and have a great Oshkosh!
That was very cool Glen. Flying is something I always wanted to do but just never was in the position to afford it. My dad started his ppl and my brother started his ultralight training but they never finished. My best buddy since I was 5 years old is a pilot for a large airline and he's taken me up a couple times. Loved it.
Hope we get those update videos from you at Oshkosh.
You did a beautiful job with the polishing.
I'm skipping this year, so looking forward to some updates from OSH! Thanks Glen!
Hope to see you at Oshkosh on Sunday
Interesting video.. well edited
Flew right over my home town were you crossed into Wisconsin from Michigan.
Glen, you're gonna need to work out those bugs so you can make it to Arkansas for some real southern cooking at the cabin!😎👍👍🙏🙏
I never was able to afford flying, other than airlines, but I appreciate the camaraderie of the GA comunity!
Great stuff! Right on the dot too!
Welcome to Wisconsin, I'm in Madison and I've often driven past the EAA site in Oshkosh. I hope you have a great time.
welcome to oshy 🎉
Awesome video, I live right next to the airport, I’m huge into flight sim, hopefully I will see you around while I’m plane spotting.
I'm getting excited for some AirVenture 2023 videos and EAA livestreams. I'm going to follow you on FlightAware and live vicariously through you, wishing I was there.🇨🇦🛩
If you ever have the chance you should go. If you love airplanes it’s the place to be
Nice video Glen. Also note that forgetting to have audio at the first part isn't a bad thing. Enjoyed the voice over also. Maybe incorporate that more often ;) Enjoy the show !!!
Keep us posted
By strange coincidence the guy you talked to at YAM tower after departure from ANJ in this vid (and some of the time in your Hope Air vid) used to work here. Good guy, tonnes of fun to work with. Always great videos to watch. It's good to watch solid decision making and thought processes in action. You should be mandatory viewing in flight school. Keep up the good work.
Until next time, blue skies and tail winds.
YSB FSS
Any time I am anywhere near Sault St. Marie, Michigan I have to go through the soo locks tour boat ride and the other MUST is to eat at Antlers restaurant.. It always amazes me the that is all done with no water pumping whatsoever. Have fun at Oshkosh!
I took a picture of those rainclouds from north of the Soo.
1. Glad you made it ! 2. Glad you did not get eaten by that C-130 on your tail. 😁
Nice video… thanks for not adding music to the flight. :)
Nice Flight ... I was pretty sure I knew the answer but was curious if you would have had to fly the Fisk Approach this early in the week ... might see you later in the week flying in from Greenbank ON ;)
I hope you show footage of all the other aircraft! The first one you showed is quite pretty, but I wouldn't be surprised if yours is also just as pretty as the rest being completely bare with the bit of red trim along the sides of everything
Flying out from YKZ soon! See you there hopefully
Touchdown on the famous "Blue dot" hope your filming at Oshkosh.
🌏🇭🇲
Arriving early doesn’t seem so intimidating… good call, and have a great time!
didn't expect you to get instructions so close to landing, I guess it is a very busy airport about this time haha
I camped in the very south 40. I was watching for C reg's didn't see your's Sorta bummed missed you and flight chops... met airplane rescue and jimmy's rescue though!
C-FMVU was in front of the Dynon tent in the show area - I'll be there next year as well.
@@GlensHangar IOW I walked right on by it. LOL
We caught all planes at Sanderson. I'm sorry I missed you. Would have been nice to say hi.
Wait isn't this the guy that recreates recipes sometimes??? I had no idea he also had an aviation channel!
Glen, will you be doing any "live -streams" from Oshkosh...maybe a fan Q & A?
Man…never thought I’d see my house in a Glen video. Will you be staying all the way through Sunday? My boys love watching the cooking channel and would get a real kick out of meeting a true “celebrity “
C-IXXX registration numbers are limited to ultralight aircraft only, according to Wikipedia.
That is correct
Makes me wonder that the big planes are at 40k feet. ( They still have to land), but the traffic seems light.
I checked there's a C-GMVU which is a C185 based in Quebec
Glen, I was looking at your video on the starter and alternator swap. Thanks for the response, my question is about the alternator, is it a direct install or does it need a gear kit to work , some of the comments on Spruce website got a little confusing. Thank you, Vance
On our installation: Continental O-300C the alternator was a direct instal. The starter was a bigger job, Chris had to cut off a shaft inside the motor case.
@@GlensHangar thank you very much
C-GMVU is a 185 based in Quebec....I don't think the India is taken yet......maybe you need to build an ultralight Glen?
You should have brought the popular mechanic!
I'm a couple weeks lake but US ATC here! So previously we had a rule where we could shorten foreign registered callsigns to the last 3 but for some reason they recently changed it so we can't. So a few years ago on initial check in I would call you Charlie Foxtrot Mike Victor Uniform and then subsequently "Mike Victor Uniform" but not I have to say the whole thing all the time. Figured you'd be interested in this tidbit
That's interesting! I didn't know what the rules were exactly; but you'll notice that the controller at KOSH does shorten my callsign... I guess in the name of expediency?
@@GlensHangar Could be, but also could be old habits/ not knowing the rule changed. I didn't know the rule changed until recently because I was training a new controller and we had an Austrian DA62 (I'm guessing they were ferrying it brand new) and my trainee kept using the entire callsign and I said he could shorten it, but he said no he can't and showed me the rule lol
Good to know.
the mvu/muv conversation just shows how little people actually listen to each other, Glen would repeat his number and it took at least 10 times before the first guy caught it, and god knows how many Minneapolis would have had Glen not actively corrected them
Glen , enjoy your channel. I have a 1961 172B and would like to upgrade to a alternator and new starter also and would like a little feed back from you. Is your alternator 50 or 70 amps? Did you use Aircraft Spruce ? And are you happy with the products. Thank Vance
I put in a 50 amp alternator, and have loads of power to spare (though I also changed all the lights to LED). A lot of the products we put on the plane were ordered from Aircraft Spruce; they always had fast shipping, a wide selection and they shipped from a warehouse in Canada. That last one eased the process for us.
@@GlensHangar Thank you
Classic image last 5 secs 😂
Got a quick question, how do you record your cockpit audio?
I use a Tentacle Sync recorder, it will (with an app) sync time code with the GoPro camera.
@@GlensHangar Got it. Thank you!
That customs guy right after the landing didn't seem very amicable. Geez.
We can’t even get Americans to pronounce Wisconsin correctly! Good job Sir!!
Why can't the fast mover do a 180 and let you land?
Congratulations. How much time for each leg of the trip?
2.5 - 3 hours each leg
@@GlensHangar Sure beats 14-16 hours by road.
Bye-bye, Garmin! 🤣🤣🤣
Are you, by chance, an Orb fan?
Do you still require a sticker to fly in the U.S.?
Yes - Homeland Security needs to get their $30.
Get your IFR endorsement, you're not going to have to rent which is normally the biggest expense. A decent flight sim (check them out at Oshkosh) will save you a lot of time (and fuel expense).
Sure if only it was that easy… $40K++ to buy and install the needed IFR equipment in MVU. Then another $6 - $8K to complete the training.
My current budget would disagree with your assessment.
@@GlensHangar Didn't realize that the Dyson wasn't IFR certified as shipped, the $40K would be very high in US.
Another great video, enjoyed the repartee overflow the nomenclature
FIRST!!!!
Safe travels
