    Thanks for a great video Teo!
    My go-to channel for anything GX80-related.
    I have a quick question in regards to video recording.
    Do you use an ND-filter for video on the GX80? Or do you just set your shutter speed and leave the rest of the exposure settings for the camera to choose? :-)

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  4 роки тому +2

      Hey there, great to read I could help you :)
      I don't use an ND-Filter. I always expose everything manually, so when necessary I crank the shutter to morally questionable speeds hahahah. But because I'm a very hybrid shooter constantly switching between photo and video, I don't want to use an ND-Filter, because I would always want to screw it off the lens when shooting photos and then screw it on for videos. It's just not the workflow I enjoy and the high shutterspeed I sometimes have to use are a compromise I accept🤷🏻‍♂️

    •  4 роки тому +2

      @@teocrawford Hahah fair enough! :D
      That makes a lot of sense. I've tried setting up the C-mode for 1080 50fps and 4k 24fps, but trying to keep the shutter speeds at the "correct" setting is hard, if you're going for more DoF.
      Might try the compromise like you as your GX80-footage looks crisp!

    Hej, just bought a GX80, could you please share some tips with me?
    - Do you have electronic stabilization ON or OFF? (noticed some kind of warping in the corner while moving, don't know is it IBIS, electronic stab, or both)
    - How do you set your white balance?
    - I have some kind of auto-exposure on in a manual mode, how to control it?
    - What metering mode to choose for video, multi metering, center-weighted, or spot?
    Would appreciate your help :)

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  3 роки тому +1

      Heyhey, I don't use the electronic stabilization, I think the sensor stabilization is really good and sufficient. I either have White Balance on Auto for Photography or on a fixed setting for video. How much Kelvin I choose of course just depends on the lighting :)
      I guess the auto-expo you're speaking of is when filming? I believe you can tap the top left botton with the video Icon and change your exposure control setting to fully manual for full control.
      Considering the metering question: I sadly don't have an answer to that - I don't know what you mean...
      Cheers :)

    Waitttt just a minute, can you give more info on the manual + auto setting??? How is this achieved? Set to manual, ok, any other settings to get there? Just touch the screen to get the focus box? This might be the most important nugget of new (to me) info I found in this video. Also, did you never experiment with the cinelike D hack? That gives a flatter color profile when using video. There are a few hoops to jump through to achieve this, but I managed to set it up on mine. Finally, I'm strongly considering upgrading to a GH5 (that way I can still use all my current lenses). It's not full frame, but seems to be the best value for the money right now, and definitely has the best video features in that price range. I lied, one more thing... I really like most of your music choices in your videos -- where you find them might be a good subject for a future video. Cheers!

    Hey Teo, I want to get the gx80 as my first camera but I don't know which lens to pick. In my country they either come with the 12-32mm or 14-42mm as kit. Some retailers even include the 25mm 1.7, but then it costs aorund 150 euros more.. I want to shoot a range of different things, there is nothing specific yet..basically I am still exploring what I like to shoot. Any suggestions?

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  4 роки тому +3

      Hey there - I would personally not recommend the kit lenses, they are cheap for a reason :/
      The 25mm 1.7 should be really cool, but of course the focal length is pretty limiting (but I would take this one, except you want to shoot wide angle).
      But you know it doesn't really matter what you start with, as long as you start💪🏼 If due to financial reasons the kit lenses are the only option, then take them and make the very best you can do with them - you'll still learn a ton! I started with my Dad's DSLR with a kit lens and had an amazing time :)
      If I'd have to choose one of the kit lenses I would probably take the 12-32 I think🤔

      ohh I loooove the 20mm (if you're speaking of the 20mm f/1.7), but I think that lens will not be wide a enough for vlogging :/
      I've otherwise only used the Panasonic 14-140mm, but the minimum aperture of 3.5 is not ideal - but it works, so it comes down to your personal preference of course. Nice footage! I have the GX80 and have trouble finding a solution for the 180 angle, like I have on my GH5. Am I correct that you can't select 180 Angle in the GX80? So how do I select the shutterspeed manually? Do I oversee something? I like to shoor 4k24p. Thanks!

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  2 роки тому

      Thanks! Ahh yeah, the GX80 doesn't support the angle feature, so you have to select your shutterspeed manually, so for 4k24p that's 1/50.
      When you're in video mode you might have to first switch into manual exposure for video, which is a button at the top left of the screen I believe. Otherwise I'm sure you can find it in the Menu🤔🤗

      @teocrawford  4 роки тому

      I don't know.. I've never used the 25mm, but I guess it's good.🤔 Depends on what you shoot and if you'd prefer a slightly wider image. And of course the price - the 25mm is muuuch cheaper I think.

      hmm.. well of course you can - but that strongly depends on what exactly you are shooting. For example I would not shoot a music video at night with the GX80, but in daytime this camera can deliver good results✌🏼

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  Рік тому +1

      I‘m not sure exactly what you mean, but can think of something that might be happening: The problem you describe, do you mean that once you open the RAW image in Lightroom the photo looks all contrasty and ugly? If so, don’t worry - that is normal!
      The preview the camera shows you is a Jpeg edited by the camera. The RAW image just contains as much data as possible and doesn’t try to look good. Therefore most cameras have super ugly looking RAW images, which you then make pretty again in the editing process👍🏼

    Hi Teo. Gonna buy GX80 mainly for the video. Can u recommend me a budget lens (200-350$)? Looking for Panasonic Lumix G 25mm F1.7 ASPH, but the stabilization is terrible on this one.

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  2 роки тому

      I personally find the GX80's IBIS so good that you don't need a stabilised lens, so the 25mm 1.7 should be good🤔🤷🏻‍♂️
      I personally love the 20mm 1.7 because of it's unique focal length, but financially speaking I think the 25mm is the better choice.🤔

      I personally would never invest so much money in a phone. Mine is a refurbished Huawei, so it's pretty powerful, but still only cost me about 230€

    You can hack the camera with a cine-D profile, but never use flat profile on a camera that record only in 8bit color depth.

  • @MaximC

    I find it a bit strange, why the footage here is so kind of laggy, not smooth? 24 f/s is more than enough for human eye not noticing the change between the frames, but in this case it almost seems like there's less frames per second, 15 or something.
    I'm talking mainly about the instances where you were filming behind your friend, like at 3:11 for example.
