Have this little gem for over a year now (bought it dirt-cheap second hand here in Bangkok), and couldn't be happier: super sharp 4K videos, top-quality photos, great handling, intuitive user interface. I just finished the 337-page manual last weekend... Just incredible how many functions and settings Panasonic managed to cramp into this tiny body!
The level of features in this camera line is really insane. I love the colour science and the easy of use in the gx80. And indeed for the used prices it is a steal. Which lenses do you use?
@@PaulTakesPhotos Right you are! I'm mostly using the f3.5 12-60mm Lumix lens with Power OIS - does wonders for stabilization in videos, even when zoomed in.
Good camera got one myself, a bit noisy in some circumstances, 14mm lens prone to fringing but very sharp lens. Just put mine in shutter and min 250. Focus is ok.
Have the same canera. I love everything about except the lack of a mic jack. And i don't know if its the issue with the copy i have, the photos can be very noisy at times. even at low iso. And shadow details can be mushy. Wish lumix roll out an updated weather sealed version the gx85 with new sensor, PDAF and modern features like Real time Lut. Perfect EDC cam.
I don't really have the noise issue, but with the 20mm I do have some highlights being blown out for some reason. I think all of us want Lumix to start rolling out mark 2 models
Just got back to M43 with the same camera but with 12-32 Kit Lens with just 907 shutter count for €275 with original packaging, like new. For two months, the set increased with the addition of 5 months old Olympus 17mm, 25mm, and 45mm f1.8 all for another €600, again with packaging, like new. I also own a S5 with S 20-60mm Kit Lens and I agree with you, the Jpeg colors out of these cameras are often ignore but in my eyes, they are one of the most pleasing Jpeg next to the Jpeg I took with the Leica TL that I had before.
On youtube most of the reviews are about the specs and little about the experience of shooting and colour rendering. For instance Fuji tends to shift more to the blue side, Sony has a tendency to shift to green tones. Lumix, like Leica tend to pop the colours a bit in general. Canon seems to as well but I don't shoot with a canon so it is a bit of speculation
@@PaulTakesPhotos exactly! There are only handful of youtubers that really discuss about Photography. Maybe at certain stage of their channel. I also stopped watching and following youtubers that discuss about hating other formats.
I just bought a G80 body only and purchased the Lumix 25mm f1.7 how does it work compared to the lenses and GX80 that you present ? Newbie here first camera 😅
I had this camera with Panasonic 12-32, Panasonic 20 1.7 and Olympus 45 1.8. I miss this combo. Now I have a Sony a7c as a travel camera but it's not the same for portability and the video stabilization it's horrible
The A7C is a great camera for stills, but is much heavier, lenses tend to be bigger. In terms of weight and portability it doesn't come close to the GX80/85. The stab on Lumix and OM is often an undervalued part of the cameras. Additionally I find the colours of Lumix just brilliant
I have the GX85 and love it. I only wish for a version with PDAF (for video - for photo, it's good enough as it is) and a screen that tilts up for the eventual selfie (the only thing I miss while traveling). As for usable high ISO, if shooting RAW and getting a correct exposure, I feel it is good enough up to 8000 (maybe even 12800 depending on the scene). But, of course, noise tolerance is very subjective. And if you use those new AI noise reducers (like lightroom has), even 25600 is doable.
It is a great little power tool. When it comes to ISO i normally keep it maxed at 6400. Force of habit. Nowadays with all the de-noising software you can basically shoot with whatever high ISO you choose. In general, at times it overexposes a bit, aside from that it is such a good tool to use for photography
Hi Paul - I have 2 Olympus and recently acquired a GX8 to get some experience with a different brand. 2 things I love about this GX8: the 3+ customisable user settings slots, the exposure compensation dial. 1 thing I miss with the GX8: with Olympus cameras, say the E-M1 Mkii (I own), you can use the "recall from custom settings" feature when on a different mode i.e A/S/P/M. The A/S/P/M modes will load your custom settings and when turning off to save battery life then back on, your camera will remember your last changes you did after recalling your custom modes. It is so useful because you could load a custom slot, with a given aperture and ISO setup or even colour science of your choice, and if on the particular moment some settings are not fit for the context, you can change them and they will remain. If your Olympus camera doesn't have this "recall" feature but has the "My Sets" feature i.e E-M10 Mkii (I also own), you can load your settings from one of the 4 stored "My Sets" configs and then proceed as with the E-M1 Mkii. Once again turning on and off the camera will keep your last settings. If you need re reset the settings on A/S/P/M modes, both cameras let you reset with "Basic" mode to have these modes back from stock. I find it so time saving and really handy, it is a shame the GX8 doesn't offer this, I must stay on a custom mode to keep my base settings but every time the camera is turned off/on, you lose your last changes and have to put them back again.
I thought 14mm is f/2.5? Bought and sold many cameras in past 10 years but the GX85 remains! The 15mm f/1.7 is on it 99% of time. Wish they would release new 20mm with improved focus motors.

I love the 20mm. I get round the video autofocus by switching the camera to manual and pressing a button to focu. It locks on and stays on,
Oh great tip, thanks!
Had no problems with my 20mm when I had my GF1. Loved that lens, should have never sold it.
It is very cheap on the used market

Outstanding deal. Where did you buy that camera from?

25mm is an excellent just a little bit more bulkier.
This is exactly my setup

good video, how did you set the JPG settings to get the image like this at minute 4:05?
I shot in vivid, colour -1, sharpness 1, average metering. Shadows -1, highlights +1.

Try the Sigma 19mm👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

I stand corrected, f/2.5 it is and indeed would love to see Lumix and OM released M2 and M3 on various lenses.
There is a mic jack just not a headphone jack. Continuous AF is fine it just hunts so not that usable in video.
Correct. Did I say it the other way around? Unscripted episodes I am afraid
The GX80/85 has neither mic jack nor headphone jack.
@@raksh9 it does, I own one
@@endah08 So do I, and I'm looking at it right now, trying to find the mic jack.
@@endah08 I still haven't found the mic jack on my GX85. Where is yours located?
