  • @mwilson14

    Nice job! I'd love to do one of these challenges myself. I've been picking for just over a month and I have a bag full of mostly unique lock Models. Most are Master Locks and 5 or 6 are mixed of Brinks, Ruger(regal) and some other generic model. I think it's 15 locks in total not counting the two practice locks which is a generic acrylic and a Sparrows cutaway + the Sparrows reload kit which allows me four additional keyed configs and any number of pin types. I can get through the pile of 15 locks in about 6 minutes as of last night, but I've picked each lock open countless times a piece with the exception of the Master Lock No. 230 which I finally SPPed last night!

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 років тому +2

      Thanks. Good luck with your picking. Anything you can do to make picking the same locks fresh will definitely help your development... and adding the pressure of timing yourself, I am now discovering, is really a game changer!

  • @absolut5050
    @absolut5050 7 років тому +11

    Wow! Again with the impressive picking skills. I started picking while I was in college but dropped the hobby. I wasn't really good at it but was able to pick open cheap locks. I started picking again... what types of locks would you recommend for a beginner to start picking on? Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 років тому +14

      Thanks. I would suggest starting on the garbage locks. I have hundreds of used ones that I bought on ebay, and I picked each of them many, many times. Then try repining some of them with spools and serrated pins... look for the high security pinning kit from CLK Supply. That will start you down the road to security pins. After that, American Padlocks are AWESOME teachers. You will not find a lock that gives you cleaner feedback on security pins, whick is great for learning. Spend LOTS of time with them. Good luck!

    Hey question for you I'm trying to pick a Ace Hardware pad lock with security pins I believe they are serated pins, at least the first one I can see is. So I bought a Peterson Eagles nest pick set, and I've been trying to pick this lock with no success. Can you give me some tips, or at least a list of pad locks that I can get to practice on that have security pins, but aren't as hard? I can pretty much get through regular master lock locks with no issues if they have regular pins.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 років тому

      I know others will say differently, but I think Master 6835 and American 1100 locks are some of the best practice locks out there. Get several of each and mix them up. Never pick the same lock twice!

    Questions hopefully you can help!!
    I have the gosu bronze colored tubular lock pick with no tension pin.The practice tubluar lock I have has the slot for the tension pin,can i still use this?
    Its seemed to work but now the slots on lock are no longer lined up so key wont go in.
    I cant get it lined with tool ,trying to open it counter clockwise is that correct?
    I might have to use a tension wrench with a hook to pick this back to proper position can this work?
    I briefly thought about a 5 lb hammer!!!
    Thanks

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 років тому

      You need to pick it back to the center position before the key will work again. If you are unable to pick it back to center, file the lug off one of your keys (if you have a spare), and that should do the trick.

      You'll get it eventually. As long as you don't have one of those Goso pick sets from Amazon--those are complete garbage. What models are the Master Locks if you have that info available? I have 10 different models of Master Locks, so I would be more than happy to offer any tips and advice I have from my own experience. I've only been picking locks for just over a month, but I probably pick locks for a good 4 to 7 hours a day.--I pick locks around 3 hours in the evening at home and throughout the day at my job to keep my hands busy while on conference calls, reading engineering documentation, etc., otherwise, I have this awful habit of chewing my fingers real bad.
