This is a perfect wedding lens. A dream come true
great lens!
Concur.
What prime lens do you think become the great pair with this lense?
@@izzatti7446 I'm taking a gamble on a Laowa 45 0.95f
Yes
I bought this lens at launch, and it has been my workhorse ever since. The flexibility for all types of photography is unmatched, it's cheaper and lighter than a bag of primes, and it's damn near perfect optically.
How sharp is it at the 150? As a sports photographer my biggest issue with the 70-200 Sony 2.8 is how soft it is at the telephoto ranges. Would love to hear, thanks!
@@AlexVasquezytSuper sharp
This is literally the ONLY Tamron 35-150 video I've seen that actually shows focus breathing at both wide and tele ends. THANK YOU.
Almost every video I’ve seen shows this…
Is it just me or does anyone else feel a sense of comfort and assurance every time Chris says “softness due to the effects of diffraction”!? 😊
if someone asks me "if you could only have 1 lens", would have to be this one. Massive range, wide aperture, sharp, just wow
What a coincidence!! literally yesterday i heard of this lens for the first time ever and looked for your review, couldnt find one and now its here! thank you so much for consistently putting out such reliable reviews!
Great review as always! After 6 mouths usage, it is my main lens now for shooting wedding videos, portrait or causal shooting. Love the range cover so nice and the optics is good enough to handle almost any situation. It's so convenient just bring a wide prime/ zoom lens with it, and you able to capture wide, mid and long range. Sometime just want to be lazy or not able to change lens, then this is the best choices!
How do you shoot video with this lens ? Handling it is possible ?
@@ClementFaucher To be honest, it's not comfortable for handheld since it's a front heavy lens. Most of the time film some short B-roll style short, also I use it with a7s3/ a7iv which has active stabilization, handheld video not the best way for it. But when you use it on tripod, it is quite a good option. I can set at f/2.8 for constant aputure, from 35 to 150. It's like a 24-105 bigger aputure version, better at some dim lighting scenario.
What a lens! No words.
Sony has the best 3rd party lens manufacturer.
I finally got my copy 2 months ago and it hasnt come off my camera. I absolutely adore it. i do wish it were a little wider, but I can live with that. Its an incredible lens!
I wish it were a 24 too!
man, imagine if it started at 24mm
I reviewed this paradigm changer zoom a few months ago. What a lens. Great review as usual, it corresponds with my findings
Sony 16-35 PZ, Tamron 35-150 and Sigma 150-600. Perfect lens trio!
It's hurting my shoulders, and arm just thinking about it. lol

You are a treasure of the photographic community Christopher. Great review!
honestly find the flaring extremely well controlled with little loss of contrast. of course theres more lens elements so its never going to be as good as a prime but i find its pretty subtle.
Ever since tamron dropped this beast I've been counting pennies waiting for the day I could get my hands on this. As a cinematographer this lens is amazing for location scouting and when I have the need to carry light
the lens is not light. It weights 1.16kg i have it and light is no where near it
@@zcw123 you're right, but 1 heavy lens is better than 2 heavy zooms or 4 primes
A perfect lens! I use this lens mainly for travel photography. I used it for a whole day on the mountain and I can say that it is excellent. that's about all I need in general.
"well you've got some nerve Mister" 😂😂😂
For the ones of us doing concert photography this is beyond a dream lens
Superb lens. I have this Tamron 35~150 and Sony 100~400+1.4x TC. Already pre~ordered 16~35 PZ. When it arrive, my kit will cover from 16 all the way to 560!!! My only small complaint on this lens is the weight, but I can live with that for the quality it delivers.
Nice setup...
this lens is such a winner in terms of zoom range and aperture. i hope more lenses like this come out.
This is one of the best comprehensive and detailed review I have seen for this lens. Keep up the good work!
Personally I don't mind vignetting. If anything I usually introduce more of it in post processing. It is one of the best ways to bring focus to the center of the image and gives most pictures a bit of punch.
AF-S is usually slower because it uses contrast detection to double check focus
Just the first samples were enough to convince me. What a beautiful piece of glass.
Tamron has knocked it out of the park here. Such an incredible lens!
I hope someday this lens will also be available in Canon EOS R system.
I will surely buy it and pair it with a RF 15-35mm f2.8 or RF 16mm f2.8 if I need to save money.
this is my exact setup, with my A7r III being on the latest firmware version 3.10. God bless tamron for giving us this great lens.
Perfect wedding lens! Hope they'll make it in RF mount, as i could sell at least two optics (24-70 and 70-200, both weighting more than the 35-150 alone) which will be covered just by this Tamron on my R6, i can shoot all day without changing lens! (i will keep the Tokina 16-28 on the second EF camera, for the occasional wideangles)
DUDE Chris Frost you have been my absolute favorite reviewer in any category gor like 6 years at least! You should really get all your videos trasnlated and just re-upload to secondary and tertiary channels. Mulah baby, plus you're legit helping people out. So thanks again!
I got my copy couple days ago after few months of waiting. What an absolute beast. I paired my with Sony 20mm 1.8 and I don't need anything else ( :
@@JoeHan268 still my favorite lens. Everything is great
@@JoeHan268 i dont mind weight. You get used to it ( :
I've seen one other review on this lens but, you're technical review is reassuring. Excellent
much awaited review ....... & please review Sony 70 200 f2.8 mark ii 🥺
The lens that makes me want to buy a sony
Have been using this lens for 4 months already, my favourite lens now, sold my Samyang 35mm f1.4, Sony 50mm 1.8 and Tamron 70-180 to get this lens, never regretted, amazing lens 😍
How’s the sharpness?
@@rilcycopa superb
I'll keep the 28-75 for its weight and for B roll. Same for the 50mm 2.5G. I haven't yet decided for an ultra wide what to do. Yes this lens is very sharp, and great to use for pro work.
This lens seems really good. What I really wanna see is a 24-85mm f2.8/f2-2.8. I think such a lens would be pretty much endgame for my use case.
We will definitely see it in our lifetime. Manufacturing has gotten so crazy good, this lens was physically impossible a few years ago. One day hopefully we'll get to a point when primes are almost useless - I'm looking forward to our future 12-24 f2, 35-135 1.8, 200-600 f4.5 haha
Absolutely crazy Lens, such a cool design! It basically combines the 24-70 and 70-200, put a wideangle lens into the bag and you're good to go.
Only complaint I hear a lot is the weight. Carrying around such a lens over a 16 hour wedding will take some strength, especially compared to the flexibility that a prime offers with it's size.
I am still torn on whether this is the best lens ever or just the best concept ever.
I agree completely. In fact, I love my 70-180, but wish it were 200mm. I wouldn't want to sacrifice another 30mm on the long end. I would be in favor that it is the "best concept ever."
Its all about versatility, its not just a nice concept...
@@NikosPer I see your point, but at the same time, it not always about versatility if you're not able to get the shot. I do a lot of event photography and the 150 range is just a bit too limiting for me. But I find between the 28-75, and 70-180, it works very nice. Plus, speaking about versatility, both lenses are extremely lighter than the 35-150, which to me makes a huge difference when shooting an event for 4 or 5 hours. Everyone has their own needs and perspective.
@@martin9410 just an amateur here-i dont own the lens, my point was about that you dont need to change lenses especially in the professional field which might be crucial for money shots. Even at 150 you may crop a bit and even AI upscale it later. Also dont forget that going out with a "35-150" in back of your mind, you might position yourself in places that you would avoid otherwise. Just my amateur thoughts.
@@NikosPer I understand...and many are in agreement with you. I've held the lens for a brief time and it is a heavy lens, but for some, that won't be an issue. I find carrying two light lenses an easy thing, rather than a heavy one. But this is why different lenses appear to different people for different reasons.
I know two people who have absolutely fallen in love with this lens! Both of them won't stop telling me how excellent it is
I would buy this in a heartbeat if it were available anywhere! It's sold out at most US retailers that I've checked
Very nice image comparison with different range, this is just what I needed. Good job!
Hello Christopher, as always you do make excellent reviews for cameras and lenses, it is a pleasure to see it and listen to it. Thank you.
I love watching your reviews of lenses I bought on preorder. I love that shot of affirmation that I made a good choice.
The perfect wedding lens has arrive
Great Lens & Review as always.
Had an extrange behavior of youtube app freezing on my smarttv when trying to watch this video. It happened 4 times, and each time had to unplug the tv in order to be able to watch any other video. I ended up watching it on my computer.
What a beautiful lens and as alway's great review Chris i would say this is 3 lenses in one.👍
I’ve been waiting for this review, thanks for the insight Chris
As an Aberystwyth resident and Welsh speaker I'd certainly watch!
wish they'd make the smaller version of this for fuji's aps-c seems like it would be 24-100 f/2-2.8 which would be amazing.
Great review. You really put the lens through its paces and it delivered with flying colors. I switched to Sony (from Pentax and Fuji combo) and decided to go all Tamron zooms for my lenses. If I had to pic my lenses over again, I would probably let the 28-75 and the 70-180 go and get the 35-150 instead. I am an old timer and have shot Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Pentax and Hassy systems extensively. The images I get from my A7RIV and the Tamron lenses are truly in the hi-res medium format territory. I am blown away by how good these Tamron lenses are.
I really hope this lens sells amazingly so that manufactures start making more normal to telephoto lenses! I’ve never in my life felt the need to quickly change from telephoto to wide angle. If I need wide angle I can take the time to switch lenses
Wow, I thought it would be rubbish like my 90's tamron 35-105mm 2.8 but this is really good!
No, forget all you knew about the rubbish plasticy Tamrons of the 90's.
And this is the best of the best in what Tamron has done so far -- superior to the 28-75 2.8 RXD, 70-180 2.8 etc.
@@catalin-ap the old 35-105 and 28-105mm 2.8 were well built to pro grade, its the optics which were suspect, i'll certainly think about this new one though
I bought the lens 2 months ago and I'm super happy!
Crazy lens! You say it's big and heavy, but given the parameters it actually seems fairly small to me. I'd be interested to see this on APS-C one day, especially Fuji. When you consider that the Fuji 50-140 is a bit longer, and almost as heavy, with less zoom range... Well, it kind of makes you want to see this lens come to Fuji X mount!
I'm really hopeful to see Tamron bring some nice lenses to Fuji, such as the 17-70mm f2.8... The 35-150mm f2-2.8 is also a nice option, but doesn't make much sense on Fuji being full-frame, maybe an even better crop version though?
@@MatheusPratta Normally I would agree with you that it makes little sense to carry the full frame weight and only use half the light. However, as Joel states, the APS-C 50-140 F2.8 lens (which is kind of the 70-200 f.28 equivalent lens) is even heavier and has less range. So this is not an entirely crazy thought here. Still a shame of all the light being wasted though.....
I've been waiting for so long for this review from you! THANK YOU!
the absolute best lens money could buy
Great review! As for the lens, sold the Tamron 70-180 2.8 + the Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG DN, and was lucky to get this soon after it was released.
It's certainly the best from Tamron in everything (from autofocus, to build, to optical quality, to customisability), and it replaces the better part of a 24-70 2.8 + 70-200 2.8. As you have said, I personally use a Tamron 11-20 2.8 on an APS-C body, to complement it on the ultrawide side (that lens is also, though consumer-level built, exceptional in image sharpness).
That really seems like a great setup. I would probably just pick sony 11mm 1.8 or even 15mm 1.4
I bought the older DSLR F2.8-4 version for my Canon 6D mkII last year and it is amazing - though vignetting was more compared to this new one, it is sharp. Hopefully I can get this version (Hopefully an RF version) when I make the jump to mirrorless in the future.
I hope to see some more zoom lenses with weird focal lengths like a 20-50mm f1.8 would be my dream lens.
There's a couple of patent from Tamron, a 25-50 f2 and a 20-50 f2.8
@@RiccardoGabarriniKazeatari I feel like any major company would charge you $3-4k for one just so they don't kill their own prime lens market
@@RiccardoGabarriniKazeatari omg i want that 25-50 f2
Frost, doing a video in another language is a good idea.
Yeah we're going to need/want this with the RF mount!
It is my every day lens and I absolutely adore it.
This lens is a BEAST! Awesome usefull zoomrange with great image quality. Even with that price tag its a massive bang for your bucks!
my all around dream lens
wish to try this, but always out of stock… Thank you for the great review again!
This lens is unbelievable amzing image quality, hope this lens will also have the Canon RF version in the future.
very suitable for commercial and event occasion use.
Thanks Chris for the review with your life. :D Brilliant Lens.
Lenses like these make me want to switch from canon to sony🥰
I think it just depends on what folks use the lens for. I'm so in love with my Sony 35mm f4 GM lens, that I'll stick with that lens, the 28-75, and 70-180. In fact my traveling set up is the Sony 35mm f4, Sigma 65mm f2 and Sigma 90mm f2.8. Gives me a fairly small package for traveling. For me, I seldom shoot wider than 35mm, but do have a 24mm if needed. For more indoor events, I use the Sony 35mm f1.4, Sigma 85mm f1.4 and Samyang 135mm f1.8. I often have very little light to work with so they work great. But for wedding photographers, I can see why the 35-150 would be such a wonderful tool to use. I might use it on rare occasions but couldn't justify the price with how little I would use it. Plus, I really love the 70-180. I don't think I would want to sacrifice the 30mm on the long end. I already wish it was 200mm. But still, a great review and a great lens.
I got this len pair with 14mm GM. Coverage range for me.
Hope 100-400mm F4 come in future some day.😆
I know I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth because f2-2.8 is absolutely revolutionary for this focal range, but I really hope one day we can get to a point that unless you're a serious professional that NEEDS an f1.4, nobody needs primes anymore. I would have gotten this lens in a heartbeat if it was a straight f2 or even f2.2, but the difference between 1.4/1.8 and 2.8 for 85 and 135mm is just too great right now. But this lens is really amazing, and I hope it sells well and Tamron continues to innovate.
I really REALLY really want this to get released as a nikon Z mount lens. I already have the nikon 14-30 f4 so the combo of these two lenses would be absolutely brilliant.
Nikon does make a pretty solid 24-120 f4 which is a pretty good lens but where this lens would likely get used for portraits only having f4 is unfortunate.
- that said if a phorographer was mainly aimed at landscapes or travel photography then again the combo of that 14-30 and the 24-120 is pretty amazing
Got it in november and it replaced all of my 1.8 primes. such a beast
A prime 1.8 or 1.4 lens will still give you better performance in low light. I do have the 17-28 and 28-75 plus a few primes 35 1.4, 50 1.4 , 85 1.8 , 135 1.8 but still don't know if I would sell my primes for a zoom which goes down really quickly to f2.8. I think it depends on the scenario in which photographers find themselves.
@@Super01041994 Im going for ease of use. less stuff to carry around, less switching lenses, more flexibillity. I had the 24-105 F4 befor and that lense made me leave most 1.8 primes at home. also 2.8 vs 1.8 isnt that much of a difference imo
@@Soundwave857 For my needs as an event photographer I need my 1.4-1.8 primes, even so sometimes 1.4 isn't enough 😅
@@Super01041994 I do lots of event stuff to and im super happy with it

You’re awesome doing reviews. Top.
Thank so much for your time!!! Great video
I want this lens.
Awesome video/review again.
Brilliant review as always! Thanks!
Holy Moly Christopher ! My eyes must be deceiving me ! The images I see here rival those of the Sony 50 mm 1.2 GM; and over a zoom range ! Now I’m watching this on UA-cam, so tell me Christopher ; You’ve tested the Sony I just mentioned. How do they compare ? No need to pull punches here. Bless you and your wife ! Thanks 😊
Been waiting for this one. 👌
Photography is life my friend!
24-105 f.28 would be amazing
Nice intro Chris. I couldn't get tired of testing this beauty either🤣 If only it was constant. And in L-mount😁
I found this lens to have a major focussing flaw.. back focus when shooting moving objects in low light situations. I shoot dance competitions and when the dancers are near the audience the focus finds the audience faces and goes from the dancers. Using lock on tracking wide with sticky 0 and it still jumps on my A9 with v6 update. A firmware update needed for sure
would be interesting to compare it to the 24-105 F4 - slightly different but both are "all around lenses" at the end of the day. I'm not sure the sony is sharper, when both are at F4, in fact.
Is this lens a game changer in 2023 ? And can Beak the holy trinity of the 24-70mm & 70-200mm lenses ? 😊
Been waiting for this review ever since the lens got out. Thank you very much Chris, hope they make a version of this lens for other systems as well
Ur the best camera reviewer chris. Im from the Philippines. Just english chris.

I’m sure this thing sold like hot cakes.

My Favorite lens ever 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
For hobbyists/aspiring event photographers, I wish they would revive their 35-150 f2.8-4.0. Cheaper and less bulky. I could gladly live with that (I mean many shoot with fixed f4 lenses, so f2.8-4 would be better).
On the flip-side, there is now the 500 eur cheaper Samyang 35-150, that aims to dethrone this king of a lens
The woods or shrubs looked like straight out of romantic poetry! You should go out there to capture them more often (of course, with proper safety).
This is a perfect travel lens. Wish I could get it for a Z mount. Not sure it's as good as the 35 SP prime, but then it is a zoom.
You can use the E to Z adapter, AF will just be a bit less snappy
@@pierrevilley6675 no, that's too much of a work around. It's not like the IQ of the new 24-120 is wanting. I'll just live with that limitation.
@@885wc I guess waiting until nikon opens its mount to 3rd party manufacturers can also work
Okay in terms of growing and budget would lens would you choose Tamron 70-180 / Tamron 35-150 or new Sigma 70-200 sport?! Especially to film in a bad light situation
Got mine yesterday and it's amazing. However at 150mm and f2.8 the bokeh can be "swirly". To get perfectly round bokeh balls also in the corners you have to stop down to f3.5 or f4 at all focal lengths.
we need a rf or ef version. I don't even need to go wider, 35mm is ok for me
After long wait ♥️
It’s such a nice liens. I wish they’d start making 1.4 or 1.2 prime lenses
Hi please advise is it necessary to buy sony 50mm f1.8 if I have Tamron 35-150
I appreciate the sneaky simpsons quote at the beginning.
Thanks for your lovely video. This is a very interesting lens indeed. However, the lens that I am most curious about is the new Sony 70-200mm F/2.8 GM II. Any chance of that one getting a review soon?
