UPDATE: Apparently the focus throw and linearity of the manual focus is something you can customize using Tamron's lens utility. Mine just happened to be set to 180d and linear thanks to the person who had it before me. *cough* Lee Zavitz *cough* 🤓👍
Thanks for letting us know! Im not sure if this is the perfect lens to start with or if I should stay with Sigma 24-70 2.8. Even thinking a7iv gives me two focal ranges with that apsc crop in 4k so why not going prime?!
I appreciate a person who is willing to give a shout-out to another person's work as Gerald did. Just love the authentic kindness in his heart in a huge way. The world needs more of this. Thanks, Gerald... and great review as always.
@@fred0c Right! I love my 35 1.4, thought about picking up an 85 because I wanted something longer than my 50 and the kit zoom isn’t cutting it for me because of the fstop. This lens and a 16-35 might be all I ever need. My poor wallet hahaha
you know what I like about dustin abbot is that he does a "normal" review for us that want it short and sweet and long format reviews for others that want more information That's a lot of work but much appreciated.
Very impressed with the shout-out to Dustin. He is quite the authority in image quality. In fact, every time I review a lens, I always, with no exceptions, validate my results by cross checking with Dustin's!
Absolutely love Dustin's videos as well as yours!! I really love how much promotion for other UA-camrs you've integrated into your channel the past few years! Just wanted to say thanks for the awesome work and let you know that it doesn't go unnoticed!
One of the best features of this lens is the possibility of setting A and B focus points that can be repeated by simply pushing one of the buttons on the lens. You can also set the speed which is amazing for video. I preordered the lens as soon as I heard about it and I’m super happy with it.
Dustin and yourself are among the very best camera and lens reviewers on UA-cam or anywhere else. The dedication shown by both of you is greatly appreciated.
This is exciting. The lens, and the fact that it's YOUR review of it. Appreciate you producing this review despite your recent comments on becoming kind of board with doing these types of videos. Can't wait to see more tech and lens reviews from the undone perspective, and or whatever else you decide to branch out or into. Thanks bro🙌🙌
That f2 with that zoom range is pretty sick. I enjoy the 24 mm focal length so starting at 35mm would be a deal breaker for me, but if you don’t care about wider than 35 this is perfect. This is like the perfect portrait lens. It’s also an amazing street photography lens if you don’t mind using zooms instead of primes.
I don't think this lens was meant to be an all in one. Pair this with the 17-28 2.8 and you have all the coverage you need. Unless you shoot wildlife, that is.
Pre ordered this and got it a few weeks ago. Paired with the A1 I almost never need another camera or lens. It's incredible. Used it to photograph college football this last weekend and it held up really well. Also, for anyone wondering, it can be balanced and used at the full zoom range on a Ronin S2
@@mathkaory1229 I didn't. I tend to shoot in medium speed for most fast paced things anyways. I think it handled 10fps no problem, but I didn't test anything faster than that. I know Sony locks out the fastest speeds to Sony specific lenses though.
@@spycam111 I haven't tried that yet. I think it would be close. It could definitely be balanced, but I'm not sure about the full zoom range. It should be noted that my cameras have smallrig cages on them.
Didn't think a lens like this would be possible. When I saw the focal length & aperture a while ago for the first time I had to triple take it because this just sounds like THE perfect lens for someone like me that doesn't do architecture or landscapes
Great shout out to DA!!! He has awesome and very detailed reviews. My lens is great at controlling breathing, very minimal if any. I'm very pleased with what this lens brings to the table. Works well on the a6600 too, very similar results!
Great video as always! Loved the Dustin shoutout too, you and him are my two favourite camera content creators so it's great to see you complimenting him haha
I see this lens being really good for multiple camera shoot for event. Where one can be on the wide shoots with a 16-35 and the other can film all the tight/telephoto shoot with this 35-150!
Thanks so much for giving Dustin a shout out man! I have always wondered why he doesn't get enough views and subscribers. I hope your video gives him the recognition he deserves!
OK, so I have been watching a LOT of lens review videos and this is by far the best review with the most helpful information and best production quality and least amount of fluff. Will definitely check out more!
Yep, I’ve been watching and have been subscribed to Dustin Abbott for at least a year now. He makes very thorough videos on lenses and other camera gear.
Between your videos, and Dustin’s videos, we get pretty much everything we could ever need to know about camera gear / lenses. Great content from both of you, very informative, and well said!
Way to go Gerald nice review and way to give another UA-camr props. Dustin Abbott is awesome he does reviews in two and three parts depending on the product. Both of you do an awesome job and have earned the respect of the UA-cam community. With Dustin covering his part and you covering the other part, nothing was left Undone.
This sounds wonderful lens for weddings! It does what I need from 35mm f1.8 and even more. The versatility of zoom lens without the typical problems of zoom lens is a plus. Not sure if 85mm f1.8 is needed anymore unless 1.8/1.4 is so important at 85mm vs 2.8. Could pair fairly well with 85mm f1.4 if shots at dark wedding receptions are needed.
I'll watch Dustin Abbott (and Christopher Frost) videos even when I have no interest in the lenses just because I find them relaxing lol. Glad to see him getting appreciation.
Always love your videos.. Very in depth, technical and objective. Please do more vlogs. Hahaha would love to see how you use your gears outside the studio. Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩 happy holidays 🎉
Im really happy with my TAMRON 70 - 210. It’s really a quality glass. Even as sharp as SIGMA ART series but fraction of price for zoom lens you would pay with Canon or Sony. Highly recommended. Tamron made huge progress with their products.
I usually use 24-70mm zoom lenses due to their flexibilty. For situations like interviews and closeups, this lens could be a nice add on, especially on a second cam or a large cam (as the FX6) on a tripod, which is heavy in itself. Thanks for your revue!
I’m really impressed… when I first heard about this lens, I really really had my doubts. It seemed too good to be true. Seems like it holds up! Definitely considering it a lot
This is on my camera every weekend for shoots. Im selling off 3 other lenses to consolidate. Love the sharpness and colors. It is heavy, but I'm ok with that.
Hey Mr G your video has triggered a selling out of the lens in the UK. Speaking to one good dealer they said they had a lot of orders yesterday evening!👍🏼👍🏼
This sounds like the ultimate lens. Very tempting although I wish it was a little wider. If Tamron could make a 20-105 f2-2.8, that sound be insane - I'd buy it immediately.
Hey Gerald, love your very in depth reviews about photo/filmgear. Regarding the focusthrow on this lens, you could've mentioned that you can change the way this lens focuses with the Tamron Software for this lens. I think you can even set it to linear 360° :)
24-105mm Sony (I dont know the Sigma version) has stabilization and it feels very compact and light to me and since I needed "such a zoom" seldomly and 'only for reportage' and for rare filming, f4 (very good at it) is totally fine with me. (I mainly photograph with f1.2 35mm and 50mm and f1.4 85 and 105). 24mm is a must to me, and 70mm is not enough. (So the second body with 14-24 or a 24f1.4 would become necessary.). And it is stabilized, and with excellent "macro" capabilities. (4 linear AF motors would be nice but not missing) I find it is too often forgotten, hence my writing. I am taking this to a couple of indoor events this weekend and will be the real test i the field.....but, so far, I think Tamron has a winer here ( an expensive one ).
