When Tamron announced the 35-150mm f2-2.8 Lens for Sony E Mount Cameras I was intregioued. It wasn't until I took it out into the Real World that I realized this range is pure insanity. It has the ability to replace so many different lenses if needed. For me, it will be the ONE lens I take on vacation or on trips, if I don't want to take 3 or 4 lenses.

Who's adding this to your bag?
I’m tempted! All my current lenses are all primes. This would be great for those times I need a zoom!
this glass is definitely 2022's new year resolution ! ! ! Can't wait to order it ! ! ! Kinda master of everything.. :)
I already have one for Nikon F mount and am using it a lot and enjoying it. It's great for street photography. Some people critique it as it's not "wide enough" at the wide end, but it was designed to be a complement to the TAMRON 17-35 f2.8-4. Also, the SONY version is f2-2.8 while Nikon and Canon DSLR versions are f2.8-4.
If I win your giveaway, I am ABSOLUTELY adding this!
I have no clue who is going to add this to my bag :)
I did exactly what you asked. I replaced almost all of my primes and zooms with this Tamron. I sold my old 70-200 GM, my 35 f1.8, my Sigma 85 f1.4 - all for this one Tamron lens and I did not regret it yet. I have a 14mm for Astro/Landscape and a 200-600 for sports and wildlife. With the Tamron in the kit it's my perfect holy trinity. Did some portrait shoots with the 35-150 as well and I didn't disappointed. 10/10 recommendation
I recommend something between 14mm and 35mm, I feel like 14mm is just too wide
I also think about that. This lens is incredible
I'm thinking do the exact same thing. Have you been happy with the results especially compared to those primes, especially the 85mm?
I wouldn’t replace my Sony 35 1.4 or my sigma 85 1.4 and it’s not wide enough for lineups…. Maybe my tam 70-180…… and the 24-70.. I’ll stilll need a wide angle lens though..24mm any suggestions?..
@@mjphotos u just buy 16-35 and 35-150. Only 2 lens u get everything maybe
So the Tamron Holy Trinity is now the 17-28, the 35-150 and the 150-500?? Jesus. That's some range.
150-500 is way too heavy. Sony 100-400 is better plus teleconverters.
Now the holy trinity may be 20-40 35-150 and 50-400 (for handheld shooting)
I'd say 16-35 GM f2.8, 35-150 f2-2.8, and 200-600. I promise you won't miss the 150-200 range
Perfect!
Nope, that must start with a 16-35/2.8 and end with a 150-600 f/4, the super zoom 15--600 at max. USD 5000, at top optical quality over the whole zoom range, 1.4 x internal TC included, that could compete with the Olympus ED150-400 f/4.5 x 1.25 iTC/5.6 (what is 300-800 resp 375-1000 full frame equivalent)
Very impressive lens, Tamron is really showing their design chops with this release. One of the most impressive zoom lenses currently available. Great review Jared & Team.
Just love how sharp this and most modern lenses are right from the start. I bought this and love it. Love the compression at 150.
Really entertaining lens review, thanks!
Always good to see a review of the gear tested in the real world. The focal range is amazing, and I really like the rendering of this lens.
or Nikon! :)
Funny you took photos of a band for this review because that's actually my whole reason for wanting this lens! I currently shoot band with my 35mm 1.2 and 24-70 2.8 so this lens will replace both of those lenses for bigger shows for me and allow me to think of bringing a wider lens instead! Thanks Jared!
Thanks for the review. Will definitely be getting this lens whenever I can afford it. The Nikon version of the 35-150 was the only thing I regretted about switching to Sony, as it was a godsend for my job. That this one is an improvement over the original model is nice. I do wish it had stabilization, but can't have everything.
Awesome review, as always.
As a new father, the point you brought about going on a trip & only bringing this one lens is very compelling....
This will be my new go-to travel/hiking lens. I'll probably through the Sony 20 f/1.8 G in the travel bag too, that would be a very small set up that can handle 90% of what you'd want for travel.
Caught me off guard when he started talking to his "kids". Had me crying.
I’m sold with one pic. Your first picture of the muscian from the pit at 110mm is so good! What a fun lens with all these focal lengths.
Thank you! This review with concert photos sold me on the Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. My wife was very happy that I was not losing time swapping lenses. However, this lens is so heavy that I wore a wrist brace the day after first using it.
Thanks for this review. I was waiting to learn about this lens.
Finally! Thanks for posting as expected.
Thanks for the video! I’ve finally made the switch to mirrorless with a new to me 7R3. This is the first lens I purchased for it. Can’t wait to see what I can do with it once the camera gets delivered.
This is a perfect lens to go along with Sony's 16-35mm Gmaster. You get all the range you generally need with only two lenses.
Man you really make me want to get this lens and the shots you took were amazing , clean, sharp and the separation wow.. I did notice you did not mention video though. What are your thoughts on this lens for shooting video? Thanks 🙏
Bought this lens just last week, with a view to replacing half a ton of glass, for many scenarios. Got 2 weddings coming up and can’t wait to use this bad boy. Thanks for the review Jared 👍
What are ur thoughts about the no stabilization???
thanks for your great review, the question is would you replace it with your stabilized 70-200? you miss the stabilizer?
This lens is my new indoor sports lens. I can get closeups on the court and team photos too without a lens change. This lens captures the full width of the court of players and parents from the half court line for special presentations. Also using for portraits. This is a great lens on the A7RIV or A7RIII.
I hope this rolls out for the Canon RF system soon. I’d love this as a general walk around and portrait lens.
Lol
Pairing this with a fast ultrawide zoom seems like a great holy binity. Less lens switching the better.
add a topping 150-600 or something and ur got to go. landscape, portrait, wildlife everything with 3 lenses :D
Unholy Trinity > Sony 16-35, Tamron 35-150, sigma 150-600???
@@Istdochallesnurgeklauteyo if you stay Tamron there is the 150-500mm which is smaller and lighter than a 150-600mm.
At the other side of the spectrum a 20 or 24mm prime at 1.8 or 2.8 can be rather light and close to a pancake lens.
This lens alone is tempting me to get an FX3.
@@Istdochallesnurgeklauteyo Maybe the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8. It doesn't have quite the reach of the 150-600, but it won't be as slow. So it's a trade off.
Exactly! This and Sony 12-24 would be a great pro pack, I bet you won't miss anything between the 24-35. If need 28 just crop the 24 a bit! Sony 16-35 and Tamron 17-28 will be more common options but not wide enough for some.
For the lock switch, as a tamron 24-70 user for weddings for 3 years , its starting now cause of the wear to zoom in when its hanged, so i guess its there to be used after a couple of years
This is a pretty cool lens and I wouldn't mind seeing it for Canon EF, if that's even possible. As for that open USB C port you can get dummy plugs pretty cheap. I would sell both my 24-70 f/4L and 24-105 f/4 Sigma just to get this one. Good job Tamron!
For EF no since it is designed for the smallet distance to the sensor. But it would be great to make it available for the RF mount
I am thinking about selling my 24-105 Sony g lens for this lens but I am going to wait to see if sigma comes out with something as well
@@quetzocoal did sigma ever did?
Just got mines. Easily will replace my mark one 28-75 2.8. love it on my A7riii and being able to shoot apsc mode when I need to is amazing.
This looks to be a fantastic lens! Thanks for the review. Mind if I ask how this works with fast moving subjects like indoor sports (basketball)? Would it hold up well?
I am thinking the same!
this is a fantastic review, well done!
Nice one. Watching this video for the second time after I got the lens, yooooohooo! BTW, I noticed at minute 20, you switched to touch focus. Anyway, to assign a button to switch between "Touch Focus" and "Touch Tracking" on a7IV? Been looking for a solution for quite some time.
This lens would be dope even at a constant F2.8. Impressive lens that seems to cover many uses.
I agree, I think people forget all of the downsides of shooting wide open at the lens's extreme. Very few lenses don't have issues there, whether it be sharpness, contrast, fringing etc. Plus you can set it to F2.8 and that is one less thing you need to think about as you zoom in and out.
This. A constant f2.8 could also have lowered the price/size/weight or increased the range. Or even both. Don't need the f2 on a zoom tbh. If I need more bokeh I grab a prime anyway.
@@sashinger5230 the rumors are saying that Tamron is about to release a smaller/cheaper 35-150/2.8 lens.
Yeah, and probably 300 grams lighter.
Can only dream of having a lens like this just love your honest reviews that you do.
Excellent review Jared. If I didn’t already have the 24-70mm Sigma this would be my photography lens for sure!!!!
Yeah same here...... but I might sell my Sigma for this.
@@crome2298 😳
Jared, i shoot sports (yeah, it wont replace the 300 f2.8) but hockey, through the glass, behind the net 24-70 f2.8 is too short often times, and the 70-200 f2.8 isnt short enough.
is the focus fast enough for pro-hockey?
it would be on either a 5D3 or 5D4...
Hey... Sounds AMAZING!!! Question.... Will this work on my Z5?? I've has "issues" with my Tamron lenses!!! Sometimes they don't play well together!!!
This Lens is now on my hot list of what to get next. This photos are really nice. 👍👍
The greatest fast, medium zoom lens known to man, well really close. This will make a lot of Sony photographers very happy 😊!
I bought one for broadcast television production, could not be more pleased.
Question. So since you basically did a TFP session for the concert do you watermark the images? Whenever I've done TFP I usually make my watermark a little larger since they're getting free images. Considering this is a concert for a well known band the exposure could be to millions of people.
I bought the Tamron 150-500 this summer, and I love that lens, I was about to buy the Sigma 24-70 2.8.
Glad I waited! I know this lens is pricey, but having a 2 lens combo to get you from 35-500mm when out shooting wildlife is unreal!
Definitely adding this to my bag!
Nice! My girlfriend is doing the Tamron 28-200 2.8 - 5.0 and the Sony 200-600 4 - 5.6 for wildlife. If this were cheaper or we had more money I'd have suggested she went this route!
I have the Sigma 24-70 I bought it when it was released and I love it! but this is just such a better lens and deal!
@@kyleheaser1089 yeah it sounds like an incredible lens and now you can shoot 150 @2.8 rather than on the 150-500 you’re @ f5, also flip the camera into apsc mode and now you’re at 52.5-225 f2-2.8.
I run with an a6500 and an A1 so I’m hoping i can take these two bodies and those two lenses and rarely have to switch lenses in the field!
@jaredpolin Great review!! Great pictures. I have a question though, when you are at 6400 iso, do you use any noise reduction??
I'm so hyped for Tamron and sigma to make rf lenses!!!! hopefully 2022?!
Awesome review and a great lens worth investing in, in my opinion.
One thing that wasn't considered or tried was the super 35mm mode on most Alpha cameras.
I use mine all the time on my A7r iii and love it. Not only it gives me a smaller 20MP file, enough for almost anything but it effectively replaces 2 lenses at the push of a button (I have mine set to C3)
In this case you get a 55-200 F2-2.8 which is even better range than a 70-200 f2.8.
To me this lens is a game changer and Ian definitely buying one. I don't do sports so I don't need more zoom, but the subject separation at 200mm should be pretty awesome.
I can't wait. This could replace my 24-70 F2.8 G Master... And my 55mm 1.8 zeiss
Cheers
How is the sharpness so far?
I’m happy owner of this Tamron, and I agree with almost everything you said. But 200 in APS-C mode is 300, and 150 is only 225) And nothing compares to Zeiss 55 1.8. It is a masterpiece)
Hey there! I am just waiting now for my A7riii I can’t wait. I’m torn between this Tamron lens or the sigmas art 24-70 2.8, based on your experience, would the versatility and range from this Tamron kind of win the argument? Maybe add a 18-35 down the line and cover all bases
Any trouble with the autofocus in low-light at a concert? I had the Tamron 70-180mm 2.8 and it would hunt in and out for focus on performer's faces in low light.
Jared,
Do you think this could replace my Sony 24-105 G? I do mostly travel and nature photography. I do also have a Sony 20mm G which I think fills the wide angle and astro roles. I may keep the 24-105 G specifically for hiking but for everything else, I feel like the Tamron is just better. I also have a 70-300 G which I use for some snow sports photography with friends.
Got me sold. Nice vid broheem
Great job with this review, Jared. I shot a wedding recently and took my Sigma 24-70 2.8 and the Tamron 70-180 2.8 to pair with my a7Riii and I definitely missed some shots because I didn't have the right lens on at the right time. This lens could have saved me.
You have basically covered the entire focal length of this lens. I don't quite understand how you could miss some shots. I want to understand why would you miss shots from those 2 lenses you have that can go down to 24mm.
@@LetsGoBowlingNiko As he said, he had the wrong lens on at the wrong moment, if he would have had this lens instead, there would be no need to switch lenses which means he wouldn't miss a single shot.....
@@oggan97 I see. I totally discounted the hassle of changing lenses.
@@LetsGoBowlingNiko Yes, the less you need to change lens the better, and you Will also miss less opportities for a Good shot
Dude, buy an A7ii or A7rii cheap and carry both lenses armed and ready. You need a second body for insurance anyway and for all their faults either of the older cameras still make fantastic images. Even if I had this lens, I wouldn’t dare go to any paying event without a backup body and lens.
Man
Them pics are spot on.
"Thank you for your
Valuable knowledge"
I am looking at this lens for wrestling and basketball. Such an ideal range for indoor sports!
If I were to purchase this lens, for a Sony A74 as you mentioned to keep a prime. I would like to have a everyday carry lens that stays on my camera which prime do you encourage me to get? Street/portrait versatility.
Droolin' and saving up. I do lot of live music footage so looking in my archive in which situations I just _see_ that I lost a moment because I was switching lenses.. The cure is to decide on a lens for a period of time ( I usually get access to the whole show) and work from that, but this practical thing of 35-150 is such a keeper.
I have been waiting for u to do this so long ......yeah
Thank you for your review. I recently purchased this lens and in general I am very pleased with it. I noticed a big flaw when used for sports: AF-C tracking loses the subject when zoom racking. Basically you cannot follow a subject around and zoom rack at the same time for fast paced shooting, you will be missing most shots. Considering that you do a lot of reviews for this sort of camera and lens applications it would really help if you can observe lenses performance in this regard. It could also put pressure on manufacturers to address the issue. Until such issue is not addressed a suggest using this lens in action shooting as a semi-fixed prime: adjust your zoom prior to follow action around, change it only when you pause tracking.
Damn, thats what I was wondering about. I used to have a lens that did that and it was annoying to use because I liked to change zoom mid tracking. Thanks for information. I think its due to the fact that the lens isn't parfocal so it throws the focus off.
What camera were you using?
Sony A1 and A9
Really helpful to know, thank you! Have there been any firmware updates since last year that now allow for the ability to maintain focus in AF-C while zooming?
@@MarkReese there have been several firmware updates claiming to address AF performance. Honestly i did not see much improvement in this specific issue.
Interesting lens. Would you recommend on APS-C (a6600), it basically becomes 53-230 ?
I have the Tamron 35-150 f/2.8-4 F mount. It’s my favorite walking around lens. I’d have to look at the price & weight to see if I’d really need the extra speed & if I’d put up with the extra weight. All in all I’m pleased with my current lens. Nice review.
So the 35-150 Samyang just came out today, what are your thoughts on it? Have you got your hands on it yet? Thanks!
If I replace my Tamron 28-75 , Sony 35 1.8, Sony 85 1.8, and Tamron 70-180 for the Tamron 35-150 and a Sigma 14-24 is that a good idea?
So I just got this lens and first impression are not positive for street photographers who deal with moving subjects. If I hold the shutter and zoom in and out the FPS changes. I've tried at a flat aperture of 2.8 from 35-150, doesn't fix it. Also, if i'm tracking a subject and zoom in/out the focus does NOT lock on. If I keep the focal length constant, the focus locks on amazing. But for what I do I may go from 35 to 150. I'm going to continue to test it more before giving up. Maybe it's the focus mode? Maybe burst instead of holding shutter down? Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
Great review as always, the only thing missing was a test at 150 to see how slow you can shoot. With no lens IS how well does the IBIS work at 150. I just got the new Sony 70-200 F2.8ii and at 200mm I have no problem shooting at 1/30.
Wow you already got the new sony??? I didn’t think it was actually out yet!
@@lauriewahlig2819 yes got it from e-infinity. They now have the A7iv in stock which is still on pre order in the uk.
I have the Sony 24-105 F4 G OSS. Would you suggest selling that lens for this one? I shoot snow sports and outdoor travel mostly. I’m worried that I’ll miss the 24mm when hiking. I do think this would be cool as I’m trying out astrophotography and my ultra wide doesn’t go to 35mm.
May be a silly question but how are you shooting the video clips and then immediately catching a still to match?
Jared...thanks for all the great content. I am very interested in this lens, but as a Capture One (Sony version) user, I am worried they will not have a lens profile for this lens for a long time if ever (they still have no profile for the Sony 12-24mm f/2.8 GM over a year later). In other reviews that go into the nitty gritty of the photos, there is definite vignetting and pincushion that you could see without any pixel peeping. I presume you put all the photos you shot with it right into Lightroom which always has a lens correction profile for this lens that instantly and automatically gets rid of the vignetting and pincushioning. As a now 12 year pro and not liking Lightroom and having avoided it this far (used to use Aperture before C1), unless one edits the RAW files in Lightroom, is this lens worth getting? Meaning, will I need to use Lightroom to get usable images. Thanks!
You could get DXO Pure raw and Export the corrected files directly into C1
I'm dreaming about this lens!!! Can't wait to buy it.
hello, someone has already tested the two objecitfs: canon RF 28-70F2 and the 35-150 F2-2/8 in wedding? what is your preference?
I have the canon version that is a 2.8-4. And I love it! I’ve used it to shoot whole weddings. I bought it because looking between the 24-105 f4 and this, the Tamron made a lot more sense. I wish I had this version for the Canon RF mount.
This is like the 17-70 f2.8's bigger brother, a really awesome lens specially for news and portrait shooters!
I love this lens! And with my Tamron 150-500 mm ? Super combo!
i've one on preorder but in the UK dont know when we'll get any stock.
This would be incredible for the indoor sports I shoot, wedding ceremonies (I'll still use primes for portraits etc), and even a lot of events where I'm shooting from the back of the room but also need to capture the audience. I usually use two bodies. I'm very interested in this
Off topic: is there a way to get a second copy of the Bernie book?
This is a very intriguing focal range for APS-C shooters who are looking for a lens similar to a 70-200 full frame lens.
The 35-150 turns out to become a 52.5-225 in full frame speak. Very handy indeed as a 70-200 on a APS-C turns out to be very long indeed.
Very cool and the price is fully inline with what's expected for fast zooms.
Hi Jared,
Did you notice any flare when you tested the lens?
BTW- Great review as always!!!
They are flares, in comparison with let say 17-28 is a little bit worse
I'd buy it immediately if I had a money to switch to mirrorless and there was a Nikon version 😁 This is like a dream lens for me, would be amazing to have it on my hikes and for landscape in general 😍 Right now my most used general lens is Nikon 24-120 f4, this would be significant upgrade over that
Time to switch ! The Sony a7iii will be going on sale soon because of the néw Sony a7iv . You could probably get a used one at a good price pick this lens up and a prime lens hood t o go
Best review of this lens on youtube!
That is an interesting lens. Especially if you have to work light or a place where you're going to need this breadth of focal length and might miss shots if you have to swap out lenses a lot.
Been waiting for this
Interesting.
I use the 18-135mm all the time on my A6400 for the range but miss out on the F-Stop on the longer range. This might be a great option to get better subject seperation.
This would be about a 50-200 f2.8-3.5 equivalent on the 6400, so if you’re not that interested in the wide angles, great choice!
Curious what type of lighting you use for your videos in studio?
Just ordered the 70-180. With the 35-150 out now doesnt it make the 70-180 obsolete? Any reason why I shouldn't return the 70-180?
Wow what a spec. Will check one out tomorrow
Hey, thanks to share this interesting video. Could you tell me it ììf the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 ihas OIS for stabilization. Thank you.
A possible option for the a6600 at a 52-225mm equivalent focal range. But otherwise seems like a great portrait zoom for full frame.
Curious. Were there any lenses that failed the wind tunnel test? I would like to see it.
Torn between lenses for Sony e mount. I’d love to see you build a bag of just sigma and tamron with just zooms, primes, or both, and share with us your findings
Awesome!! Love your videos!! Thanks
Just bought this lens! The question is, do I sell my Tamron 17-28 and Sigma 24-70 and just replace them with the 16-35 GM to fill in the gaps?
Do you recommend this Tamron lens over Sony G 24-105f/4 e- mount?
Tamron and Sigma keep knocking it out of the park. What those 2 companies offer Sony shooters makes me scratch my head when someone chooses Canon R or Nikon Z over a Sony. That and the price of amazing used bodies and availability of used lenses.
Can't get any better test scenarios than kids playing at daylight and night music concerts. Best review of the lens in UA-cam
What about lack of in lens stabilization? Is that a drawback given that Sony alpha cameras have in-body stabilization?
My 35-150 2.8-4, i love it dearly. When i decide to take the slightly wider one, i miss it.
Also, i shot an engagement shoot with it and it was just more convenient. Not to say i didn't switch to my 85mm 1.8 for some shots, but, am i sad i didn't get the 70-200? Sometimes, but, for my limited budget, there's no better choice, tbh.
22:30 you can see Jared actively deciding whether or not he wants to say something that'll get him cancelled
He could've said armpits, he just didn't think of it!
When do you think Tamron will make a version of this lens for Nikon or Canon?
Great review! It's a little pricey at $1,899 price tag. I would consider it, if they made for the Z mount. The apertures are not bad at all.
Gotta pay for premium performance & quality.
Hey Jared, if you set it to f/2.8 at 35mm and zoom, will the aperture change? Or will it stay on f/2.8?
You can always rent it out to test it out... I believe the aperture listed is the widest. Not the only range you can go.
Nice Fro-Man!! I hope you can offer me an opinion....best 3rd party lenses for Sony cameras. Sigma or Tamron? Specifically the A7 IV.
Was recommended to buy this lens, looks awesome so far!
Jeremy Parr I am thinking of buying a new lens and this one is awesome thank you Jared for your imfor on on this lens yours truly Jeremy
Got one loving it! I do miss the stabilization as I love videography!
@19:47 is the vignette at 35mm from in-camera or added in post?
I want to buy 24-70 tamron for nikon
Do you recommend to replace it with 35-150?
