For anyone interested, the Canon C70 with the EF to RF speedbooster works with Tamron's 35-150 f2.8 - 4. Because of the speed booster it'll ramp it up to a f2.0-2.8 That's what I have been running lately and it works incredible. I'm very satisfied with this lens. It delivered what I needed for an event using it on the A1. At one point, I did have to pull out the old 70-200 GM for that extra reach. So, I had the A7Siii with the GM and the A1 with the Tamron. The Tamron AF felt like the old GM AF which is a testament to how good this lens is with motors that are being used for the amount of glass in the lens. Very pleased with the results I got. Now, if only Sony would get the 70-200 GM II shipped out to me. :) For any infrared shooters, the lens is not good for IR going smaller than f/4. I use the Tamron 28-200 for IR and love using it for general usage.
With the A1’s megapixel count, you could absolutely use Super 35 mode on it to give you 50% more reach. The 150mm end becomes 225. I have Super 35 connected to a custom function button on my body.
After watching enough reviews for this lens, I think I'm going to buy this over getting the 28-75mm and the 70-180mm from Tamron. My sensor is always getting dust when I swap my primes so I'd love to replace most of my lenses with a single good zoom. It's time to start saving up for it
Kind of surprised you didn't mention that for a video lens this has a couple other advantages: It's reasonably parfocal and has minimal focus breathing. Now I just need B&H to get it in stock!

Great review on this lens as it is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other FF camera manufactures that are trying to eliminate 3rd party lens. When paired with the Sony A7RV with 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images that is sharper than the 33MP image from the A7IV it provides incredible flexibilities that covers most of my needs. You're asking for a ridiculously massive lens, the Canon 28-70 f/2 is already as big and heavy as this lens. I couldn't imagine going even wider and longer with the only "downgrade" being f/2.8 on the long end, that would be a huge and expensive lens.
Great lens that gets slept on - Sigma 40mm f/1.4, literally one of the sharpest lenses of all time, like Otus level or higher. It's big and heavy, but it's a beast. Was on sale for $789 recently, total steal at that price.

For photography as well, the only time i think how much the lens will close will only really matter if you're doing long exposures and want the starburst affect with the lights or want that extra long, multiple minute long exposure. Also, apparently every lens has a downside after about like f/8 or so where the images get less sharp the more you stop down so it's sometimes not even worth it to go past f/8 or whatever the lens' downside is at (it's different for all lenses)

@@charlesnetzler2262 That's RF to EF. That doesn't need to do much since it's a lens staying on its native platform. Almost any of those RF to Ef work well. Some just feel cheap or are cheap. It's the EF to E that have more issues with being cheap because they require good programing and adjustable firmware to make the lens function well being adapted. Did anyone else notice the guy Christian with the GFX lifted all those lenses effortlessly??? He’s def a buff one, Vin Diesel Stunt Double for sure!
I hate lens swapping too! Wish Sony would give us the shutter sensor cover option on the a7siii. Sensor dust is my ultimate fear lol.
Its not good idea to use shutter as cover.
Its useless, or even contra productive. What u think where dust that lands on shutter go once u press shutter button? Exactly, inside cam, on sensor. So using that option can only damage shutter.
Thats why I’m on the fence from switching to sony because they have other companies bringing in lenses unlike the rf line
I need this lens in RF mount… ASAP… let’s go Tamron!!!
its my favorite potato love watching your videos bro
just noticed thats signal hill! thats dope
Try and get your hands on the Sigma 24-35mm F2.0! Its a beast of a lens with the sigma art quality. Sharp across the entire range (I know it aint that far of a reach) from edge to edge at F2...
Oooh 👀
it aight not better than the king 16-35 gm
@@craigman7262 Almost like that lens is f/2.8 and not f/2.0 like the Sigma 24-35. Wild concept, I know.
@@TechnoBabble knowing that for a lot of people their bread n butter it requires that 16mm. Crazy right even when u realize these new cameras have really good iso in dark situations.
Dylan's modeling portfolio has got to be MASSIVE by now.
PJ - I've never used a lens without IBS for video. If I use this on a gimbal do you think I'll be okay? mostly for wedding content. thanks...
Would be fun to see you get an MC-11 adapter and a speedbooster, and slap this on your C70
Awesome video, awesome lens! Thanks Potato!!!!
I have a Tamron 70-200 2.8 love it!
Awesome lens! Another quality video! Thank you.
Would be interesting if the focus motor of the RS 2 is used as a zoom motor and if fully zoomed in, if there is any jitter/shaking on the recording.
That 28-70 and a 100mm Macro could be a pretty light-weight wedding kit
Did realize you were a local. I love signal hill!
I would go crazy for a tripod collar for this lens . . .
😅
lens lens I see again Pototo Jet at lens on camera! smile! 🙂
Awesome lens awesome review. Oh man so tempting. Where did you shoot this review? Awesome place for sunset
that sunset ... sheesh bro.
Nice review! Always fun and cheerful. Where was this location at? Very nice sunset and city lights spot! Thank you
It’s signal hill. We never get the predicted rain. But I love that park. That’s the spot my wife chose for our engagement pictures. It’s weird seeing a photo UA-camr from this area. Everyone is east coast or Canadian.
You didn't talk about the beautiful bokeh at all, it's dreamy!
2:49 Convo heh heh heh Length vs Girth. Classic.
Sweet… a lens getting 4 birds stoned with one joint… adding to the UA-cam setup list now
nerdy photography talk makes me happy..i could never wax philosophical with the local 'pros' in my area about aperture
Thanks for the video...the lens is just a wee bit out of my price range! Love your videos PJ!
Chris definitely stole the show 🤩
I had a 100 to 300mm zoom lens for my Canon AE-1 back in the day. The Canon lens cost was $360 in 1979, in today's dollars comes to about $1,500.
that's a monster of a lens
You can put tamron on gfx with adapter , in 35 mm is 60mp camera ;)
For photography as well, the only time i think how much the lens will close will only really matter if you're doing long exposures and want the starburst affect with the lights or want that extra long, multiple minute long exposure. Also, apparently every lens has a downside after about like f/8 or so where the images get less sharp the more you stop down so it's sometimes not even worth it to go past f/8 or whatever the lens' downside is at (it's different for all lenses)
Wdum, lower apertures don't automatically mean less sharp
@@eesafredericks2122it always does , difrraction hits the same wether its a noct or not
always loves ur content💝
Gene, I switched from Canon to Sony, inspired by months of watching your videos! I got a used Sony A7III for $1500 from a local camera shop. Now, I'm looking for native Sony lenses to go with it, and this video was helpful. I currently use Canon lenses on my sony with a converter, and the AF works B+ for photography, but AF doesn't work at all for video.
which canon body did you switch from?
You using a Metabones adapter right? All the standard cheap adapters tend to suck.
@@pixel_overkill ive heard the new viltrox rf to ef with af is ment to be good.
For going Sony I had great results with a Metabones IV and terrible results on a cheap adapter. I heard the only other decent one is the Sigma one as well.
@@pixel_overkill oh sorry i meant ef to rf. Thats good to know, I was considering the speed booster with the ef 24-70 2.8 on the the rf, do you think it woul work well?
After all my gear got stolen, the A7 iV, 35-150, and Amaran 60D/X couldn't have come out at a better time.
Will you please do a video on the Tamron 11 -20mm? Please and Thank you!
Good review. Just get a RF adapter like I did for my EF/EFS lenses. With newer sensors that does great ISO in low light situations this "expensive" lens is too much to spend on and the zoom range isn't that far reaching
Fair but its a 35 to 150
