    This is my setup (a74 & 35-150) I use for weddings! What a game changer for me not to have to switch lenses all day. I’ve shot photo and video for several weddings with the combo and it does such an amazing job.

      I'd add a small'ish 16-35F4, or a really tiny Tamron 24F2.8, which also doubles as an excellent macro'ish lens. I did a wedding once with just the Tamron 28-75 on an A7III. Ended up cropping in too much for certain shots. This 35-150 is a game changer.

    I did a senior couple shoot at a park recently and showed up with a bag of lenses and never took the Tamron 35-150 off the camera once. It's a wonderful lens with great glass, is very fast, and tack-sharp. I still love my Sony 16-35, an exceptional lens for wide angle, to use for those tight and wide shots. But I can easily see how you can now get by with just this one lens for assignments like this.

      @greenbarn.videography there's really not much to say. I simply keep my white balance on "shade" 99% of the time that I'm outside. It just makes my editing process easier. Obviously you can change the WB In post (and I do) but auto WB Is too unreliable. And I like the warmer look of shade. So when I get my photos into lightroom and they are already close to how I want the WB, it just makes it easier. Hard to explain. It really doesn't do anything. Other than make the process of shooting easier because I'm not fumbling around trying to set the WB.

    That lens definitely is a good all in one setup. I've been a lover of prime lenses lately. I use to rock the typical 24-70, and 70-200 for my go to.. Then I switched to a 24 1.4 and a 135 1.8 and i've never looked back. Tack sharp photos, great for video, low light is amazing and the bokeh is just on another level.

    I’m using the 35-150 paired with a Sony 20mm 1.8 for a wedding on Friday!

  • @McCourtPhotography
    @McCourtPhotography 4 дні тому

    We just started shooting weddings and buying an A7iv and the 35-150 was a nice and easy way to get started without having to buy a whole set of primes that we would need to constantly change since we only have one camera each at the moment.
    Shot 2 weddings now on the 35-150 and although it's quite a heavy lens to use all day, it's absolutely nailed it in almost every situation.
    There are a few niche situations where I'd like to have an option of something else though. I had a situation where I was doing a stair shot where I was literally squeezed right into a corner because the 35mm wasn't quite wide enough. so a wider lens on hand for those situations would be nice. Another is it would be nice to have an 85mm prime for at night where the f2.8 is maybe just a tad slow... but we get around this with strobes and flashes. Then the last niche situation would be a solid macro lens.
    So we have had the occasional situation where a different lens would have fit slightly better, but we have worked around that. For 95% of the day, this 35-150mm has been an absolute beast!
    Shooting verticals with this lens and a v1 in the hot shoe is a wrist buster though 😂

    I have my A7iv setup the same way even with the aps-c mode on my c1. Just a tip that I got from Dan Fox. Try setting the zebras on the camera at 102 and that way you’ll know if you are blowing out any of the white while in auto iso. This camera has so much dynamic range I haven’t had a situation where I could bring back an underexposed image even 3+ stops if you just turn either the iso down or exposure compensation dial.

    Great review on this lens as it is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other FF camera manufactures. When paired with the new Sony A7RV with 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images that is sharper than the 33MP image from the A7IV while still providing incredible flexibilities that covers most of my needs.
    Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-f/2.8 focal range including in APS-C mode:
    @ f/2.0: 35mm-39mm (APS-C range: 52.5mm - 58.5mm / Total available range: 35mm - 58.5mm)
    @ f/2.2: 40mm-59mm (APS-C range: 60.0mm - 88.5mm / Total available range: 40mm - 88.5mm)
    @ f/2.5: 60mm-79mm (APS-C range: 90.0mm - 118.0mm / Total available range: 60mm - 118.0mm)
    @ f/2.8: 80mm-150mm (APS-C range: 120.0mm- 225.0mm / Total available range: 80mm - 225.0mm)
    I prefer carry this one lens than have to miss precious moments during lens swapping, not to mention dealing with increasing frequency of sensor cleaning and dust entering into different lenses and while have to carry the weight of all the extra lenses on a much larger and heavier camera bag.

    Love your "review"! Great work, mate!
    After working with this lens for about 18 months on all kinds of different assignments I am still looking for a flaw because I simply can't wrap my head around what Tamron did here. I was a prime shooter for years (outside the 200-600 G) and wasn't happy with the occasional need for the 24-105 F4. It is a very good (and more importantly stabilized) lens that does an amazing job but I was missing the shallow depth of field and 105mm never felt that much more than 70mm to me. Now 150mm F2.8 are something wild for below € 2.000,-- (central european price back in spring 2022). This lens practically lives on my a7iv while I use the a7r3 with the 20mm F1.8G for the wide angle shots. One big main cam combined with a small one for wide angle. Works perfect for me, though, I am looking forward to exchange the a7r3 for an r5 or the upcoming a7v and maybe getting the 12-24 Sony or 14-24 Sigma for the wide angle stuff.
    Overall: If you are a working photographer in the field of ANYTHING --> Get this lens as a workhorse or even as a backup. It covers a lot of prime lenses and there is yet to come a customer to me that complains that I am not shooting with the newest G Master lineup 🤭

    Non prime lenses are great for weddings, they got a lot better sharpness wise. No need to switch lenses all day long. Primes would be best for portraits and studio work. With so much going on during the wedding constantly switching lenses is super annoying and gives a chance for dust to get on the sensor.

    • @johansphoto
      @johansphoto Рік тому +2

      Two cameras, two primes and no need to change. That way you become a master of your focal lengths, get better low light capabilities and better subject separation. Keeps you moving to be where it happens and constantly find new angles. That is why most great wedding photographers shoot primes.

    Curious if you can use a macro extension tube with it to do some macro shots.

    I love old cars for weddings. I had a couple that drove a model T Ford and we got some of the most epic wedding photos with it. I’m excited to get my new 35-150 for my two weddings I have coming up. Are usually use a 35 mm and 85 mm F1.4 throughout the day. And when I do the couples solo shoot I try to incorporate the 135 mm F1.8 GM for some of the shots. But seeing I’m gonna have all these focal links in one lens I am curious what I should use for my second body. The widest that I have is the 24-70 F2.8 so I’m wondering if I should have that on my second body or still keep my 85 mm F1.4 for those nice crisp bokeh shots

    Hey an F1 fan cool - and you were in Burlington - I was by the lake Saturday - well after the F1 qualy - and I shoot R6 and A7IV - except I don't do wedding photos - no people skills - so I stick with more static subjects like hills and flowers ... but I always watch your videos. Something new to learn every time. Your friends 911 Porsche video was my favorite. I wonder if you follow Kill illman - the F1 youtuber and F1 photog.

    Nice captures, I'm impressed. You're kicking a few cows with this Tamron lens. I started using a 24-120mm f4 on my Z 5, which is doing great for all types of subjects, so far. I'm waiting for the Japanese 3rd party lens makers to get some glass for the Z mount. It's like they're asking Sony for permission...

      You can also offer couples an unplugged ceremony discount of something like $100. It’s a thing Sam Hurd suggested in his workshop years ago. This helps get them to at least put a sign up or get the officiant to announce to not take pictures

    Great content as always mate, did you miss the 1.2’s 1.4’s and is there any reason you’re not using Electronic shutter? I used mechanical all the time on the A7iii because electronic was trash but I thought the A7iiii was much improved!? I’m on the A9ii now so pretty much always using Electronic silent unless of course I’m batting low quality LED lights!

    • @arthurb1400

      As far as I know A7IV doesn't have a stacked sensor as A9/A9II/A1 do. So the read out speed is not so high.

    • @TaylorJacksonPhoto
      @TaylorJacksonPhoto  2 роки тому +4

      This vs the 70-200 is a hard call. I'd say for ceremonies, I do prefer this to a 70-200. Then have one of the C buttons set to APSC mode. I think it is heavier than the 70-200 though and larger

    • @l3allz
      @l3allz 2 роки тому

      Thanks@@TaylorJacksonPhoto ! I like that you mentioned the APSC mode because I already have that mapped to my C1 button and use it a lot. I also don't feel like I have the steadiest hands, so I was previously considering the 70-200 for the OSS to let me slow down that shutter speed that tiny bit more if I need to. Or from your experience, would there not be enough of a difference in the OSS to have that as a deciding factor? (Sorry for the million questions 😅)
