Three singers, one microphone. Autotune is not possible, even if it existed when this was recorded. The harmonies you are hearing are just pure talent.
There was no autotune in 1978; studios used overdubbing back then and overdubbing was used to correct the incorrect vocal pitches by re-recording those specific notes or sections here. In this song, there are actually nine layers of three-part harmony, creating 27 voices, Barry on falsetto lead three times, falsetto high harmony three times, falsetto low harmony three times, Barry on natural voice lead three times, high harmony three times, low harmony three times; Barry, Robin and Maurice together on lead three times, high harmony three times and low harmony three times.

Three brothers who could harmonize since they were 7 and 8. Their mother thought they had the radio on and went to tell them to turn it off and go to bed. She said to her surprise it was her boys. Barry is the only one still living. Robin and Maurice were twins. Andy the little brother had a music career to. Andy was getting ready to join the BeeGees when he past away from heart problems brought on by years of drug abuse They had hits in the 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s. They’re in the Rock and Roll and Song Writers HALL OF FAME. Words. Tragedy and Fannie Be Tender With My Love. Staying Alive is just Timeless. You might get recognize it. Barry is the one you love lol. He sings a song by his self WORDS. Barry is the only one still living. He was Honored at the Kennedy Center a few weeks ago. Barry’s been married to his wife Linda for over 50 years. So glad you loved it. In my days the BeeGees were one of the best bands ❤️
In fact, Bee Gees were active from 1958 to 2001 and had many hits throug the decades. It's strange that most Americans think their career stopped around 1980 because they didn't hear them on the radio. The rest of the world enjoyed these beautiful harmonies.
This was released Oct 1978 video. Of course they wrote hit songs for others... and the Duet between Barry Gibb and Barbra Streisand in 1980 together and Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers - Islands in the Stream in 1983 for them. Bit of typecasting as Disco sort of was the problem mostly in the states. Disco ended pretty abruptly.... though a few hits thru like '83. Laura Branigan with - Gloria perhaps one of the last. Just too good despite being disco. Disco sort of lived-on as Dance/House music though. Backlash had a couple main reasons best not mentioned a sort of cancel-culture for ..... and of course the glorious 80s came in and some feel was still inferior to Classic Rock of the '70s (minus disco). Big Hair boy bands and Girl bands.... etc. Metal came in Punk, New Age that started in the 70s continued, The British second invasion to the states.. first was in the 60s Beatles etc.
@@davidw7 Bee Gees didn't invent or represent disco, and they didn't deserve that label, nor that backlash. They were just dominating the charts at the time, because people liked their music. @@leniprof You cannot change history. No on said they invented Disco. Most did not know the scene it came out of... some of that scene was not seen as good and that was the backlash of sorts. Having top charting songs sure though is a way to get represent a genre. Again, you cannot change the past and recognition nor change it to others you prefer get it. There were plenty of Disco acts many got degrees of acclaim also. Yet Disco music itself evolved from different subcultures, with origins in Philadelphia’s R&B scene in the late ‘60s/early ‘70s, featuring African-American and Latino musicians and audiences, and in private dance parties thrown in the underground Gay community of New York. I think the Gay community got most credit from groups like the Village People etc. The backlash was from those who did not see it as true Rock n Roll either. In the end the Record studios and money CHOSE what would WIN and what might LOSE as powers-that- be who seem to have control too. We buy... yet they can promote and push. We had another change 2015 16 of sorts when I feel the Rock era ended and Rap/Hip Hop took fully over top 20 at least in the US. He was Knighted by the Queen of England so he is formally Sir Barry Gibb. Every song they ever sang was written by them.
They were prolific songwriters for themselves and others. I hate Simone who always comes in and corrects but only because if you’ve never heard this song you should go listen. The only song I’ve ever seen them perform that wasn’t their own was a very unique and enjoyable cover of Carole King’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. The Shirelles scored a number one with the song, Ms. King performed it on her classic Tapestry album and the Bee Gees covered in many years later. Three very different versions of one song all excellent in my opinion.
@michaelrunnels7660 - Barry was knighted by Prince Charles (not the Queen) before he became King Charles. Robin was also nominated but died before it was bestowed and it cannot be awarded posthumously. All three were also given the award CBE but as Maurice had recently died, his was accepted by his son Adam. At least Maurice did know he received the award before he died.
@@michaelrunnels7660 - No worries. I was always a Robin fan. All three deserved more recognition than they received. Robin was nominated for knighthood not only for music but as President of the British Heritage Society (that designates historic sites), President of the Composers' Union (getting fair compensation for composers and performers), and his work for poor children (Outreach), veterans and refugees. He was the driving force for the Bomber Command Memorial built in London for WW2 pilots dedicated by the Queen a month after he died. You can see photos of it on Google. He flew under the radar and few know about his immense philanthropic efforts. All the best. 👍
Welcome in the Univers of the Bee Gees. They had so many Songs. And every Song is a surprice. I grow up with the best Group ever. Amazing Voices Amazing Song Amazing Bee Gees. ❤❤❤
welcome in the great time of "No autotune, great vocals and masterpiece songwriting" from December 1977 until December 1979 every Bee Gees tune wents massive straight to #1 - 9 immortal evergreens like this one here, the great Sir Barry Gibb one month ago awarded from President Biden for his lifetime achievement in music is the most successful songwriter of all time 🔥
"is the most successful songwriter of all time" LOL! No he isn't. Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Smokey Robinson, Stephen Foster, Dolly Parton, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin -- names just off the top of my head are ALL FAR more successful than Barry Gibb. You are truly living in a dream world!
Beautiful réaction to this beautiful song. The Bee Gees were one of the first groups to achieve super global fame. They wrote their own songs, invented new sounds and performed live even better than in studio. No groups ever like them or better. How deep is your love is another romantic song. For Whom the Bell Tolls is another. They recorded and performed until Morris' death in 2003. Barry Gibb released a countrified Bee Gees best hits duets in 2021, called Greenfields. It reached #1 in several countries, including the UK and Oz, and he was received the Americana music award for it. Beautiful songs there, too. Words is Barry's signature song, as I started a Joke is Robin's. Man in the middle is Morris's IMO. All great.
The Bee Gees had hits in the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s and 2000’s and not only for themselves. They wrote songs for most of the top artists such as Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Elvis, Barbara Streisand, Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, Yvonne Elliman, Tavares, Frankie Valli, Jimmy Ruffin and Dionne Warwick to name but a few. They wrote over 1,000 songs are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
That is true! Barry's also the 2nd most successful songwriter in music history, after Paul McCartney. Btw, since it's often stated incorrectly, Robin and/or Mo co-wrote approx 75-80% of songs they wrote for themselves & others.

I am sure that you have heard so much about the BeeGees (Brothers Gibb) in the last few days. Myself born in 1960, I have heard all of their music, childhood Australia teen stars, the biggest group in Disco music world wide. No 3 brothers with their perfect voices and extensive careers in music will ever be seen again. They are phenoms in the music industry. You have touched on a hit from the first album fading away from Disco. There are huge pre Disco hits, lateb60s, early and mid 70s, then Disco, where the whole world heard the BeeGees, Seriously.
I was first introduced to the BeeGees in the 60's when they were part of the British Invasion. Their music was a bit different than this, more folk than rock. I loved their songs 'Words', 'I started a Joke' and 'Massachusetts' . They went quiet in the early 70's but had a reemergence in the later part of the decade with the Disco Era. The movie 'Saturday Night Fever' launched their second run to fame. I still have the first album I bought in 1967. Thank you for this wonderful reaction. Your introduction to the Brothers Gibb was adorable! Blessings to you and your family this coming year!
We have been in love with Berry Gibb since the early 70s. Barry has the biggest heart throb in the 70s. They had a solo artist brother Andy he was so talented and handsome with a falsetto voice.
Great reaction and recap to a beautiful song! This is a timeless classic! Check out Celine Dion’s “Immortality” with The Bee Gees. They wrote the song for her.
Put on your seatbelt. You're in for a long and incredible ride with the Bee Gees. I can't wait to watch you work your way thru their massive collection of hits spanning well over 40 years. Two suggestions, "Fanny Be Tender" and "Love So Right". I Enjoy your channel.
In the 70s I had all their 8 track tapes! HA! The Bee Gees were the BEST EVER. You know, this is raw talent, there are no machines covering up mistakes and bad voices. This is all real. This is what music should be. Gen Z can't let this go away. Everything good is going away. This is real music, it changes your mood, your thinking, your everything. Don't let go of this music! No machine can replace human talent, creativity, and passion. People today listen to machines, we used to listen to humans and NOTHING beats that~
Once again, HELLO. I'm looking at YOU and listening to the Beautiful MUSIC once again ❤💯👍! And I caught myself thinking that in this frame EVERYTHING COINCIDED. AND YOUR BEAUTY and at the same time the BEAUTY of Music
1. Love So Right. 2. Words 3. Fanny Be Tender 4. Massachusetts 5. You Should Be Dancing Just to name a few, they wrote over 1,000 songs, my life long favorite group. Brothers Gibb. Bee Gees. Love your reaction. Play more of their music!
This was a charitable performance. Royalties from it went to UNICEF. The Bee Gees were at the height of their popularity in the disco era, most notably doing the soundtrack of the movie Saturday Night Fever (one of the biggest movie soundtracks ever, and a wildly popular movie starringJohn Travolta). But they had decades of popularity both before and after disco. Barry (center) did the majority of their lead vocals, but all 3 sang leads. If you want a sample of the others, I'd recommend For Whom The Bell Tolls with Robin (left) singing lead, and Closer Than Close with Maurice (right) singing lead. Nice reaction.
Three brothers, the Brothers Gibb also knows as the Bee Gees. The depth of their catalog is enormous as is their talent. No one harmonizes like the Bee Gees do. Check out "How Deep Is Your Love," another beautiful love song. If you want up tempo, play "Staying Alive." And after you have completely fallen in love with Barry, Maurice and Robin, then it is time to check out little brother Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing" If you think Barry is a heart throb, you will love Andy!

Robin was also nominated but died before it was bestowed and it cannot be awarded posthumously. All three were also given the award CBE but as Maurice had recently died, his was accepted by his son Adam. At least Maurice did know he received the award before he died.
@@susieq9801 I stand corrected. Thanx.
Give a listen too For Whom the Bell Tolls , Barry and Robin sing solo on the track, Barry voice us incredible but Robin's is heavenly too.
Welcome in the Univers of the Bee Gees. They had so many Songs. And every Song is a surprice. I grow up with the best Group ever. Amazing Voices Amazing Song Amazing Bee Gees. ❤❤❤
They also have a younger brother that also sang, Andy Gibb shadow dancing!
Bee Gees - For Whom The Bell Tolls , Will make you emotional for days n days n days..
Robin on the left also has a very unique voice.
welcome in the great time of "No autotune, great vocals and masterpiece songwriting" from December 1977 until December 1979 every Bee Gees tune wents massive straight to #1 - 9 immortal evergreens like this one here, the great Sir Barry Gibb one month ago awarded from President Biden for his lifetime achievement in music is the most successful songwriter of all time 🔥
"is the most successful songwriter of all time"
LOL!
Barry Gibb is the second most successful songwriter & producer in music history, second to Paul McCartney & George Martin.
@@Great-Documentaries 😂clear your facts - indeed the he is second most successful songwriter Bullshit Bingo 💩en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Gibb
And they donated the profits from this song to charity.
Great song choice Olavity, the Bee Gees were world class singers one mic three brothers wow magic!!
They also wrote songs for other very popular singers. Love you ❤
Beautiful réaction to this beautiful song. All great.
What a Lovely reaction!~ Such a beautiful song. Barry Gibb was my high school crush.
Yes Steve, they are all in the Songwriter's and R&R Halls of Fame.
@@susieq9801 Is there an echo in here? That's what I said, before adding more info.
@@kthor - ECHO, ECHO, ECHO🙄
#1 - I was responding to Steve.
#2 - Your comment is edited.
@@susieq9801 No kidding?! Prob because the % of songs was later added, since you often state it incorrectly.🙄

And rip Andy gibb 😢
And Robin & Maurice are twins. All of the brothers, talented & beautiful voices. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Always love the surprise and the smiles when people, especially younger generations, hear the BeeGees for the first time! Us older folks adore them! They r the total experience! No auto tune just pure, raw talent. It’s magical!✌🏻😎
Pure raw talent, which includes 27 layers of vocals, 18 with just Barry & 8 with all three brothers together.
Please react to for whom the Bell tolls by the Bee Gees
Up
Up up
And up up up👍🏻
Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive please react 🙏
Great Reaction 👍🙏🌹
THIS is not music, but a MIRACLE👍💯❤!!! And the words...👍💕!..
Loved your reaction. You would enjoy Jive Talking, Nights on Broadway, To love somebody, Words(1979),Kiss of life, Wind of change(1979), I could not love you more and Wedding Day ❤❤❤❤
There are many great Bee Gees songs. I might suggest how can you mend a broken heart.
You've got to react to Staying Alive by them. If by chance you've never heard it, all the better. You are in for a compulsive treat. 😊
They all could hold their own vocally. That's why they harmonize so well, they sound alike. But Barry Gibb made this song a forever classic. ❤❤❤
😂😂😂 welcome to the 70s you guys missed a lot of good music thank you for your reaction ❤❤ love it
We have been in love with Berry Gibb since the early 70s. Barry has the biggest heart throb in the 70s. They had a solo artist brother Andy he was so talented and handsome with a falsetto voice.
You melted! 🥰
The most beautifully emotional song I have ever heard/felt. How perfect to hear this when entering the Gates of Heaven. Brings tears to my eyes.
Great reaction!
You haven't begun to untap the legends they are, plus... There is another younger brother who was also very talented.
Please react to their song "Massachusetts"❤
Great reaction and recap to a beautiful song! This is a timeless classic! Check out Celine Dion’s “Immortality” with The Bee Gees. They wrote the song for her.
If you loved the falsetto voice in this song then react to "Fanny be tender" by them , they all use falsetto voices at some point.
It's called NATURAL GOD GIVIN TALENT
Barry has a five octave range of his voice. His falsetto is one of the best in the world..
Legends🥰🎶Just never hear sweet love songs like this anymore
Hello. Your reaction 👍💯🎉! The only Correct and Worthy of this Great Australian Group ❤❤❤👍💯🎉!!! THANK YOU.
Put on your seatbelt. You're in for a long and incredible ride with the Bee Gees. I can't wait to watch you work your way thru their massive collection of hits spanning well over 40 years. Two suggestions, "Fanny Be Tender" and
"Love So Right".
I Enjoy your channel.
I'm really AM old. These brothers are legendary.
Love this song. Great reaction! 🎉❤
Bees Bees are good love to listen to them you need to check out their brother Andy Gibb he is good too I have a crush on him .
When music was real music with talent and love
In the 70s I had all their 8 track tapes! HA! The Bee Gees were the BEST EVER. You know, this is raw talent, there are no machines covering up mistakes and bad voices. This is all real. This is what music should be. Gen Z can't let this go away. Everything good is going away. This is real music, it changes your mood, your thinking, your everything. Don't let go of this music! No machine can replace human talent, creativity, and passion. People today listen to machines, we used to listen to humans and NOTHING beats that~
The Bee Gees Are The Best 👍💯, Period
You know why us Boomers say, we lived through the best generation of music ever!
No generation can ever ever ever beat our music!
PURE TALENT NO AUTO TUNE ! ❤❤❤
They had #1 hits in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90s and 2000's. Also the only band ever to write, produce and record 6 consecutive #1 hits!!
Thanks, Olavity.. Bee Gees were very popular and famous in the U.S. - particularly in the 70's... (well-known for "disco" hits.. "Stayin' Alive", etc... ) three brothers.. any one of those boys could hit any of those notes on any day of the week... I actually favor Robin.. guy on the left in this video... he has a very unique and quavery voice... although Barry.. in the middle.. was the oldest brother and usually took the "lead") amazing talent and harmony... appreciate your reaction!
HE WAS A HEART THROB BACK THEN.
THE 2 GUYS ON THE END ARE ACTUALLY TWINS.
THEY ALSO HAVE A YOUNGER BROTHER ANDY THAT WAS A SINGER.
🎶🎙🎵
