As a fourth generation mechanic who brought back in the era, when our fathers in grandfathers were American, made car Chevy or Ford. When I was young in the 80s working on cars, I quickly turned over to Toyota.
I just noticed all the American cars, Chevy Ford Chrysler changing belts and 60,000 miles radiator hoses blowing shocks and struts giving out suspension parts transmissions and engines giving up their life 60,000 and 80,000 90,000 miles alternators and starters
Where are the majority of Toyotas that came into our shop after 160,000 or 190,000 miles you finally did your first alternator the struts and shocks were still good after 150,000 miles they could still have their original belts and hoses . I have never ever bought another American car ever since I’ve converted my whole entire family over to Toyotas ex-wife has Prius Toyota Camry’s all three of my sons Toyota Prius I drive a Toyota Prius now and we have all gotten in the 400,000 mile range plus on each vehicle..
Could never do that with American cars

Condition and Maintenance trumps mileage on these vehicles, I bought mine at 294k and put about $1500 in deferred maintenance I felt it needed and it rides and drives like it has only 100k miles on the clock, I am slowly replacing the stuff I want but if you can remotely turn a wrench they aren’t expensive to maintain.

I have a 27 year old LC80 petrol. I bought it 17 years ago and it has been used virtually every day since. From long motorway driving, towing a large caravan to just being used as a donkey. Apart from service parts, the original battery was replaced in 2018 and an alternator replaced, it’s still on 100% original parts. I assume the distributor cap wasn’t even removed or replaced when I bought it, I certainly haven’t touched it. Wonderful cars, worth every Penny in fuel 😬

100 series are awesome machines, and really are built to last, but they aren't without problems, and anyone buying one be aware they can get expensive to maintain. There IS a phenomenon called the "land cruiser tax" on parts and labor. I've had my 05 for 2 yrs now. 280k miles, one owner, no rust, but...
    Tires
    Timing belt
    Water pump
    Radiator hoses
    Thermostat
    Idler pulley/ tensioner pulley
    Wheel bearings
    Brake booster

Bought a 2000 LC with 150k miles in 2013 for 12k. It's at 250k now. Largest expenditures were a couple throttle bodies going out, the first was covered under a recall and the 2nd was out of pocket. Factoring in basic maintenance like timing belt changes, spark plugs, etc I've spent less than 15k total. Unbelievable vehicle.
When the opportunity arose, paid 26k for a 2010 LC with 170k miles without thinking twice. LC's are their own thing. Once you drive one you get it. Bulletproof engines and the original factory OEM parts rarely need replaced. Do yourself a favor and when you find clean ones that were taken care of, buy them immediately. You won't regret it.

I've driven many 100s in both flavors and totally get it. The solidity and quality just oozes and they're fun to hustle. I've driven the 200s in both flavors and it just doesn't feel the same. The quality slipped a bit and I'm talking about even in the 2021 LX570.
Everytime I find a listing for the 100 I want, it slips away. Grey interior with charcoal exterior preferably 06,07 just are hard to find. I'll just probably import a middle eastern 5mt V8 model instead now that importation is legal.

@@JakeTieslernot air, it’s hydraulic and there are no bags to fail. Globes can start to loose some nitrogen after a decade or two, but change the fluid every 60k and it’s a solid system. It also doesn’t hard fail, it’s very slow and just results is a slightly harsher ride and sometimes a slight lean if it’s only one or two globes. Shocks and struts can also leak after many many years, but for about $1200 you can do the globes and all struts and shocks in the driveway with common tools and some beer.

It’s not a gamble if it doesn’t leak, no rust, drives good and has maintenance records. It’s just a used Toyota and they seem to be pretty reliable! I would take a 300,000 mile one over a 250,000 with bad records and drives bad, not clean etc
