(Fellow South African here) I owned and modded a 100VX that sat on 285s and OME nitrochargers for 10 years and 260,000km. In fact, I wrote the DIY threat on Ih8mud on how to re-index your torsion bars. One thing to remember is that the 100 series needs/likes a 1-inch rake on it front to back, if you level it out the ride does funny things, so let it be a bit nose low. Also, you really should think about a front diff drop kit now that you have the extra lift from the OME setup. You are within tolerances now, but your CVs are going to take a battering and you will start to eat through half shafts. (let me know when you tear your first front CV boot!) Your UCA alignment is also pretty much maxed out and you could really do with a set of aftermarket UCAs, and all the other small suspension bushings are also going to start to go, LCA bushings, upper and lower ball joints (can be pressed in and out, don't belive Toyota when they say you have to get a whole new UCA/LCA), sway bar end link bushings are squeezed to hell, and the bigger tyres are going to start to hurt the tie rod ends and bearings (if they are at all worn) which will then cause bad wear on your nice new tyres. I can also recommend you get yourself a set of Timberin extended bump stops... with that much wheel poke you run the risk of rubbing hard on the fenders. I'm not sure when it was last done, but also flush your brake fluid, the ABS accumulator and pump on the 100 series can go, and its a 1 piece unit from Toyota for something like 32,000 rand, keeping fresh brake fluid in the system helps extend the life of it. If your larger 285 spare tyre is not fitting under the back right now, you drop the back tyre, flip the bracket that sits above it upside down, and then you can get a 285 in there. NEVER do a snatched front recovery from a 100 series in reverse, the diff blows up... Sho, lots of things come to mind.
@justinfloyd3071 the whole cv ware quickly bs has been debunked by a youtuber known as Tinkerers Adventure all you have to do is use the red nolathane longer extra stretch boots the ware is the same unless your going over 2" 50mm of lift
We just took over my dad's 2004 Prado 4.0 that's been in the family since new and man are we excited to start exploring! Great video man, love your content Ed.
So I am glad the 200 is back in shape and i took your advice from you most recent video to figure out who the saboteur was😆 Keep making more overlanding content I am a big fan🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
Good to see you have graduated to the 100 series. Keep up the good work eventually you will be promoted to the 80 series. Toyotas best ever 4x4 without question
Hi , welcome to Kenya. Cannot wait to see you here Edward. A big consumer of your content, keep up the good work you inspire me. My dream is to own the 200 series and do a trip to SA.
Good to see an old build up. Most of the builds are new modern 4x4's. OME for the win. I have been running OME on my old SFA Hilux for years and sold it like that. Have OME on my Fortuner and it never says die. Probably will be fitting OME to my L45 as well. They are reliable and comfortable.
Reluctantly had to part ways with my 105 series. The 4.5L straight 6 was just far too heavy on fuel. The 250L combined fuel tanks often had petrol attendants checking underneath the vehicle for leaks:) I miss the vehicle so much. Great content Ed!!
Hi , can you please tell me who made / supplied the stainless shock stone guards ? & do you have them on front & rear ? there is nothing like that available off the shelf here in Australia , I would be keen to buy & pay shipping to aus , thanks
I saw Ryan’s vlog recently with his Ford. And I was very intrigued to see the maintenance that goes into the vehicles. You should do more…. They’re very interesting to watch and will help others out there that are too afraid to venture far off road. I’d be interested to see the carbon build up on the 100 series before you for the catch can and fuel filters. I also have have to say that because of you, I have sold my Palma caravan and bought a 4x4 trailer. After watching your Echo trailer review, We hired an echo 4 for a weekend and fell in love with the ease of setup. We seriously looked at the Chobe. Although in the end we went with another brand. Another surprise was your suspension upgrade and fail. I mean that in a positive way. I have a FJ cruiser. I’ve been wanting to upgrade the suspension because I feel I need just that little bit extra clearance..but I’m petrified about ruining the ride of the FJ. Off road - it’s a mountain goat, in the City and open road it wafts along like a Rolls Royce or an S-Class Merc. The FJ has this uncanny ability to be so basic, yet offer you everything you need when you want it. Thanks for the lekker vlogs. ✌🏻
Hi Edward, enjoy you’re channel so much. I am not someone that normally comment but please put back the original mags.. the 100 series look out off shape! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Willem! Appreciate the support 🙌 wheel rims are such a personal thing and I understand that some people might not like them but I’m super chuffed with them 🙏
Hi Ed another great video just concerned about how the wheels are sitting outside the body you going to have problems in the mud and with those pebble stone roads in Namibia.
Got super excited when I saw this build video. Have a 1HDFTE 100 series and they really are a legendary vehicle. Haven’t seen too many build series videos with them so keeping a keen eye on this and the many adventures soon to come 🙏🏽
6:49 Hi Ed, great build! I am in the planning stages of building a Cygnus/LX470 in Malaysia (fellow Saffer), quick question, what exact specs of the DT1 did you get? I can’t see any on their website with a 110mm hub, or am I missing something? Keep up the great work!
Hi Ed! Please share a link for the cruiser doctor you mentioned in the video😊 our drive train needs some attention and a doctor is definitely required!! Keep the fantastic videos coming!!! A trip to Kenya sounds VERY exciting!
Hi Taryn! Thanks so much! He actually requested that I don’t share his details at the moment, he’s too busy to take on any more vehicles at the moment but I will be doing a video explaining how amazing his work is and what he’s done with the 100🙌
Ed, it would great to do the series with more details on the build itself. Things like What budget do you have? Why the products you have chosen, and what did they cost? How do you prioritize what goes in, when it goes in and what is of more value to your over-landing needs. More details around the installation process would make great content! (And more sponsors for you in time to come) I see you made a mistake with the suspension. That would also be great learning for all of us! There needs to be content on that please, as I think so many people make that mistake. Other interesting conversations are around the age of the LC100. How is it performing today, and what preventative maintenance needs to be done to get that truck reliable and ready for the next 200000km? You had some small clips of this, however most people will build over landing trucks off older platforms. This could be a cool episode or 2 in its own right! Otherwise keep up the good work!

Great stuff. That 100 series is a very tough vehicle indeed. So durable

Keep making more overlanding content I am a big fan🤟🏾🤟🏾🤟🏾
Very interesting you say this will be the primary overlander over the 200! Will watch this series with interest.
Great Video Ed!! In my opinion, the 1HD-FT/FTE series diesel engines, are the finest turbo diesels ever fitted to a 4x4.
Sing it brother 👍
This is what you have been up to then!!!!
Good to see you have graduated to the 100 series. Keep up the good work eventually you will be promoted to the 80 series. Toyotas best ever 4x4 without question
Thanks Tom!
Likely the best all round car Toyota made
Thanks for taking us on the upgrade journey this 100 will be a beast on the end of the day mooi loop

Amazing!!! And to hear you are coming all the way to Kenya.... even better. Am staying tuned in for the complete series
Definitely motivated to get a 100 or 200 series too! Looks great!
Fantastic. Still looks like a new car
Thank you! They are amazing vehicles!
I think I missed it, but was the offset of the wheels? Thanks mate 🙏🏼
7:37 the height car level here was so nice + 9:10 also here 9:28 was so nice , 13:52 but now it’s so low .. can you explain why ?
Great video, why the decision to change your primary vehical after all time and money spent on the 200?
Thanks mate! Just something different, will still be using the 200 as well 🙌
it still looks brand new! i love the chasis
It’s a magical vehicle and has held up well considering it’s 22 years old!
Welcome to the 100’s
Great video bud! 100 series is still so nice even after 22 years!!
Thank you so much bud!! Hope you doing well 🙌

How much did it cost to fill it up at the time?
How many km would that give you?
love this type of videos about LC's... Keep them coming mate.
Thanks mate!
Hi Ed. You make us jealous. Agree with OME. The best in the market. I also had Viper upgrade on my 120 V6 Prado and it is great. Sounds excellent.
Thanks Paul! It’s good to always go with reputable brands 🙌
Keep them coming
Thanks mate!
Awesome upgrade on the 100 series bro.
Thanks bro!
I got that exactly same cooper tyres on my vx100
Awesome Wian!

Thank you for sharing…May I ask What size are your Dirtylife? 17x9 5/150? How many offset?
Appreciate your response
Yooo, 22 years. That vehicle has got loads of happy memories. What's the mileage...?
427 000kms
And here I am struggling to fill my tank and Eds kitting out a 2nd LC 😅
Haha fortunately this has been the plan for a while, unfortunately the fuel price means I can’t get out with then vehicle 😂
Awesome upgrades🔥 I can't wait for a trip-video with the 100 series.
Me either!

We dont have laws like that here in South Africa.
Fortunately not Glenn, I will be installing flares in any case to avoid stone damage
