The old lady selling candies was such a sweetheart. Your interaction with her was so cute! I smiled through the whole thing. Two adorable human beings ♡ And thank you for this video, Jay. The first thing I want to do when I go to Korea is to go to Myeongdong and try out all the streetfoods. So it's a relief to know that communication isn't a problem. Also take care of yourself. Remember to stay hydrated.
i think Myeongdong, Hongdae, and especially Garosugil is very tourist-friendly bc i noticed the staff in the shops can speak english fluent enough. i can tell they worked hard to nail it 😁
But once they communicate with you, you cant escape from their offer sometimes. When I was in Myeongdong, a women with her very limited english speaking came to me and push me to buy their products. Sellers in Myeongdong and Namdaemun are pretty aggresive.
@@bishplis7226 he looked like he could be from China or Japan. Or Koreans that live abroad since he was little and don't speak Korean fluently. I'm Indonesian and my brother once went to Thailand and ppl there thought he's locals and just casually speak Thai to him
That grandma is so sweet (haha get it). When you asked them how to pronounce the korean words i was like "boi who u trynna fool ur korean accent is perfect"
I miss Seoul so much !! This video made me nostalgic, I went there in May with a friend and was living near Myeondong. It was a great time, people were so nice especially the "ahjummas" 😭! As an haitian/french (black girl) living in France I had some type of "fear" of discrimination before going there but we did not have any of these in Seoul. I will go back for sure there 💓💓 Sorry for my English 😅
I've seen some Americans get so angry when someone who doesn't speak English tries to order food. America is known to be more culturally diverse and houses many different people from many different places speaking many different languages... and yet in South Korea they are so much more polite to some random guy not even making an effort to speak their language. I HAVENT SLEPT IN TWO DAYS LOL
I'm American and I used to work in customer service and we had quite a few customers that spoke Spanish only and I've never seen anybody be rude to them Not saying they don't experience it but it's the same with this video you don't see bad/rude behavior going on but there could be don't build Korea up to be this utopian Paradise where things like that don't happen
I like how the lady selling the sugar candies was speaking to him in Korean knowing he doesn’t speak Korean 😂 she was persistent lol adorable and so nice
honestly before going to korea I was SUPER nervous about communication but i was put at ease so fast. especially with the vendors. they know the questions tht need to be answered and everywhere else theres always a way to figure out what needs to be said. i had such an easy time honestly!
I LOVE the candy lady 💕 I currently live in South Korea (I am American), and find that the elderly vendors are so nice to us. We have a market where I live and this one lady I buy cherries from always hugs me.
That moment when you are taking Korean lessons, and you can understand some of what they are saying!! I just started a month ago on a language app (just passively learning) and based off of how they talk to you in this video, I can at least go shopping with no issues lol.
I like how respectful you are with the vendors by blurring their faces. Other UA-camrs aren't as respectful and courteous, which works the fuck out of me.
Most of the street vendors I've encountered in Myeongdong are like the old lady selling candies. 😅 I speak to them in English and they respond in Korean. But also, I've noticed compared to the first time I visited Seoul in 2013, more and more vendors and roadshop attendants speak Chinese and lesser English nowadays. Anyway I'm amazed at how you can keep speaking in English and not switch to Korean even though you understood. 👍👍👍

Aww your interaction with the grandma just melts my heart ♥️

I think Koreans understand english but they can't speak it.
Jay said "謝謝" and "再見"… amazing! i never know Jay speaks mandarin
FYI: Myungdong is full of Chinese more than Koreans. Most of street sellers are Chinese as well.

You're such a great inspiration Jay. Keep up the fantastic work! Lots of love from my place.
