Props to the woman who walked out of her nose job appointment because she said "if I change one thing I hate about myself I'm going to want to change another." That is a really strong testament and I wish this perspective was more common.

bear in mind your genetics can affect a healthy bmi by +/- 3-5 on that scale... while there is always an aspect of physical activity and dieting involved, there is also a genetic factor involved.
Please consider that their beauty standards are different to western ones (assuming you're from a western country) and actually, the WHO considers cultural influence in their definition of an ideal weight; the BMI scale is even lowered for people from Asian ethnicity! Don't be harsh on yourself. You don't need to judge yourself with their standards.

The girl at 7:00 is spot on for korean preference for Korean girls. Ppl always talk about korean beauty standards about what they think is pretty but in reality the most popular girls that guys were all over were not the drop dead gorgeous ones but the cute types that looked friendly.

@@Definitely_Melnyx He does interview known internet personalities so he's not being dishonest or anything. Asian Boss and other YT channels do similar things. It's really hard to do authentic and totally natural street interviews free of scheduled ones. Takes a loooooong time.

In my country, being voluptuous or overweight is the ideal and I’m very skinny. I sometimes think I’d be seen as very pretty in Korea because I’m very skinny, have a sharp jaw, big almond eyes, and a small face, but where I’m from I’m considered ugly. It really makes me think all of this means nothing.

The truth of the matter is most people both male and female are average looking. There is a smaller percentage of people that are either bad looking or good looking, depending on which society you live in, but most people are somewhere in the middle.
But one caveat I'd like to add is that average women are considered attractive to men, whereas average guys are not to women. And women often mistakenly perceive male interest as them being above average. Being average-looking as a woman is already enough to get guys attention.
@@Cxs1a3 I agree that average men are tricked into thinking average women are more attractive than they really are because of things like makeup, fake eye lashes, extensions or weavers, filters and using all kinds of angles to make them appear more attractive than they really are. If you look up some of the most attractive celebrities without makeup most men would be like where is that attractive woman that was in all the films I loved?
@@Cxs1a3 i can see what you mean by that but i also think women heavily favor personality, charm, talents morals etc and even finacial status...a woman can think a guy is ugly or average but after getting to know him he starts getting more attractive. Have you ever heard of the guitar charm? a guy can be ugly but pick a guitar and suddenly he is attractive.I dont know if the same happens to men but i heard some men say that men decide right away if the like the woman or not just by looking while women can change their opinion on someones looks based on many external factors. Ofc this has more to do with each personality rather than gender but in my experience i think is very true. Just by looking at celebrity couples and even irl couples its away more common to see beautiful girls with ugly guys than handsome guys with ugly girls.
@@darkriku20 but doesnt that just prove that women standards are higher? for a woman to be considered beautiful she has to use things like makeup and all those fake things because they are expected to look like that naturally because of media and all of that. If no women had ever started using makeup, had ever started shaving, have ever had any plastic surgery..the women that are considered ugly now would be just average and the ones that are considered average would be considered beautiful. Men are said to age better and look better without makeuo than women because they are not expected to have 0 wrinkles and a natural full makeup look with eyeliner and curled lashes. This is why i stopped using makeup, if people get used to my full face makeup they will get disappointed and think i look sick when i take it off. The contrast between makeup and no makeup women faces is what makes them look "bad". If a rich person is suddenly forced to live an middle class life they will think its pretty bad, if a poor person is suddenly forced to live an middle class life they will think its damn good. Downgrade from 9 to 7 is not that high, so it's humility for sure. Though, there is not point to say 9 instead of 7

170cm/5'7 usually seems to be the go-to ideal height for women in Korea and Japan. Here in Australia, people have often told me that I'm too tall at 5'7, I've always wanted to be shorter! It's interesting how different the beauty standards are in other cultures.

Sis who gave herself a 9…love her. And truthfully the only major difference between her and the other girls is confidence- that’s it. If you’re confident and comfortable in your skin, you’re already a 10. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you meet all of society’s beauty standards (which change like the weather anyway-ask the Kardashians). But if you look at the women who historically, have been renown for their beauty… they all had quirks and imperfections, but they were so self assured - Bridget Bardot, Jane Birkin, Frida Kahlo, LIU Wen, Grâce Jones, Sofia Loren, Aishwarya Rai, Devon Aoki, Giselle Bundchen, Anna Bayle and the list goes on. All were kinda “funny looking”, but you couldn’t tell them nothing.

@@Bashir000Yes, if we talk about the real average, 5 is the average, but people tend to rate themselves higher 😂 It actually more about showing self-love. Same like most people don’t think they are genius but the thought of being (slightly) above average comfort them. So I think 7 is the most comfortable number for most people. 6 is like you barely make it in a test 😂(Asian mind) I think in Asia, when they said they’re ≧8, it’s usually because they really are pretty and people around them also said so. More often than not they are objectively attractive. I rarely seen anyone who said they’re 10 and seriously believe in it 😂 Like the beautiful lady who rated herself 8.5 said, nobody is perfect. Actually I think saying something around 7 is healthy. So you maintained a certain amount of confidence and still being grounded (not delusional)/ humble.
It’s self-evaluation after all. I do think Westerners tend to rate themselves higher and Asian lower. Usually if they are Asian growing up overseas they also tend to have more positive body image and less strict standards.

I really don’t believe in rating attractiveness or beauty. If someone I encounter in life sees me as a number before knowing me as a person, then I’m not interested in being around that person, plain and simple. I’ve never rated anyone’s appearance like that and it’s quite sad to me that there are people who go through life valuing people based on subjective beauty standards. It’s even sadder when people fall victim to valuing themselves based on those “ratings.”
The reality is it does matter, maybe it's not a number, but there's still a concept of beauty rating to society. And if you don't wanna play by that rule , that's up to you, but the world ain't gon' revolve around you.

I think the beauty standard here in Korea is so harsh and hard to achieve, in particular around weight!! But I definitely can say good hair makes a big difference to someone's appearance, definitley worth putting time and effort into ones hair 😄
All of these girls are a 9 for me. Everyone's pretty in their own way. I liked the one with blonde here. She gave herself a pretty low score despite her being the most beautiful out of them all.

It's totally nonsense that 90% of people get plastic surgery. she shouldn't sell everyone around her just because she did it. Although the plastic surgery rate is high in Korea, there are still a lot more people who don't do it. This is also proven by statistics. When foreigners on UA-cam and Instagram see pretty Korean girls, they say “ oh, they are 100% fake or they must have a plastic surgery” , but it's often not true. It seems to be a sale out of jealousy.
Yes, that’s jealousy. In fact, Most Koreans are natural. but other Asians(chinese, japanese, thai) have a lot of plastic surgery in Korea. Reuters estimated currently, foreign patients make up 50% of all plastic surgeries performed in South Korea. In 2023, around 114 thousand foreign patients were at plastic and cosmetic surgery departments.
For that reason, the per capita population ratio is high.

Well, the thing is they think all Asians look the same , so they can't differentiate between a 5 and a 10, cuz it all looks the same to them.
A lot of white men want big boobs so it’s not for everyone even with surgery there aren’t many giant boobs there.
I almost did lipo when I was 22. Looking back I was so small, but I just had a tummy. The doctor advised against it because he said my stomach muscles stick out so lipo wouldn’t change that.

Well, I do believe everyone deserves a 10 since we are all unique in features, just the way beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. If you say you're an 8 or a 7, maybe you should tell us what you need to be a 10? But wait, after you achieve that, some people may see you as a 7 or even 5 based on comparison. So everyone is a 10, don't devalue yourself. 😊
