    Somebody was thinking during Engineering of this engine and I like that, especially for this kit installation. Harley for the most part you have to pull the push rods and lifters to get the cams out which means the valve covers come off.

    • @kylemoore9626
      @kylemoore9626 4 роки тому +1

      That’s false, if you use adjustable push rods you just cut the old ones out, rocker boxes don’t need to come apart.

    • @jarrodwilson7702
      @jarrodwilson7702 4 роки тому

      It's easy to pull the valve covers off anyway, you only have to removed the tank, not pull the engine out like he says with the indian.

    • @lynskyrd
      @lynskyrd 3 роки тому +3

      @@slyguyaction there is more surface area on the Thunderstroke but look how accessible they are- held on with hex bolts. Don't need a fancy tool to take them off, no removing the cam plate, replacing bearings, no cutting pushrods. It's all right there after you take the cam cover off.

      FYI might want to check your engine. Now that those have been out for a while it was found that the stock springs weren't enough for those cams and people are now finding that their 2018 and earlier are becoming damaged.

    I should learn repairing Indian motorcycle engine, replacing parts. We have scarcity of service centers here in INDIA, It will be great to learn so that I can do my own repairs when needed. after all we should know every detail of what we are riding.

    A question relating to 4:30 ... are the cams that came out of the engine the originals? I see that they have the centrifugal decompression mechanism (like S&S Easy Start cams), and I wasn't sure if they were standard or not.

    • @juleswrenches909

      @@juleswrenches909 Thanks for the quick reply. My knowledge of Indians is zilch, so I've got lots to learn. Who invented the decompression style cams first? Indian? S&S? Other? Has the idea been around long? Just curious :)

    Such an informative and concise video. Thanks for uploading. I have little experience with Indian but I have a friend that claims their 15 scout needs “A” head gasket. You said you have to drop the motor if the pushrods fall down. I assume that means for a head gasket the motor has to come out?

      Does Fuel Motto PVCX have a map that supports the 558 Cam? I really like to DIY, never have done cams but with Service manual along with this video I think its possible. My biggest fear is dropping the pushrod!

    • @juleswrenches909
      @juleswrenches909  6 років тому

      3asyrider75 I wish I knew the answer to the mapping issue, I’m sure if you do some research you’ll find an answer or even reach out to Lloyd’s. I’ve only installed and used factory parts. And ya dropping a push rod sucks haha. I’ve heard rumors of being able to get the covers off without dropping the engine lol but haven’t seen it done yet.

    First time you mentioned timing marks was on the reinstall. Why?!

    • @juleswrenches909
      @juleswrenches909  3 роки тому

      Great catch, that honestly could’ve been a mistake where I didn’t mention it (I always time before disassembly). Luckily if you’re setting the timing correctly going back together it shouldn’t be a problem, UNLESS the crank slips while installing. Which in my experience hasn’t happened yet.

    I'm sure this is a silly question, but what you showed here is it the same procedure on a 2017 Scout ABS or is inside the cam cover totally different?

    • @juleswrenches909
      @juleswrenches909  3 роки тому +2

      So the Indian 111 and 116 are both pushrod engines with the cams down lower. All the scout engines utilize a cam over head design. So cam replacement on a scout is ENTIRELY differ procedure than this. 👍🏻

    Great video. Wonder what the one-time tooling costs vs. getting a dealer to install?

    • @juleswrenches909
      @juleswrenches909  6 років тому

      GT Steele The tool itself as I pulled it up on our point of sale is $525.99. I just discovered Lloyd’s makes one as well, which runs for $448.99. So just looking at prices, they would be worth buying if you did more than one job. Seems expensive for just one time use.

    • @gtsteele6219
      @gtsteele6219 6 років тому +1

      Julian Steele, I agree. Probably only will do this once and for the price of the tool, I am sure I can have my dealer install the cam. How long does it take? Looks like maybe an hour?

    • @juleswrenches909
      @juleswrenches909  6 років тому

      GT Steele Well I highly edited this video down for the sake of watching. You would have to call and ask your local dealer how many hours they charge for cam install. I’m sure it varies.

      @gtsteele6219 6 років тому +1

    Does the cams come with torque specs and special tool?

    • @juleswrenches909
      @juleswrenches909  6 років тому +2

      Victor A Sandoval Good question. The kit itself comes with all 3 cams, new cam bolts, gasket, instructions (with all torque values) and a calibration card. The kit does not include he tooling. You would have to order that through your local Indian dealer. I haven’t checked if any aftermarket companies have made one yet.
