ORICO 2.5 Inch Transparent USB3.0 HDD/SSD Enclosure Review (2139U3)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
- Today we are going to look at a 2.5 inch drive enclosure from ORICO that brings something a little different to the table aesthetically speaking. As you can see, this drive enclosure is 100% transparent allowing anyone to see the HDD / SSD housed inside. On top of being somewhat unique, the ORICO 2139U3 is also easy to use and boasts decent speeds for a budget drive cage.
I forgot to mention this in the video: my test machine is a Lenovo T430 with 8GB of DDR3, USB 3.0 SS, a Quad core Intel I7 3612QM, and a 120GB ADATA SP550

I bought a couple of these some time ago (5.50 euro/piece), I can wholeheartedly recommend them.
The downside is they show scratches, but on the plus side the plastic is actually flexible and not brittle as I thought it would be.
I accidentally dropped it from about 50cm on hard floor tiles and it survived with no problems.
I'm so happy to finally see someone talking about these!
seagate or wd should start building HDDs with a transparent case, so you can see the hard drives heads moving around
Shhhhhh....Don't give them any ideas. I think the Raptor line had a drive bay window in the HDD housing, but you could never see the drives as they were typically buried in the PC case.
You are right, WD made them in 2005/06 I believe
me: I need to get off the computer
me: *sees aacomputers made a new video*
nevermind
Lol, thanks for watching!
AA Computers and Technology I started watching your videos from yesterday and I just love them keep up the good work
I really like this enclosure because it's transparent. I got a few older drives lying around and this will make it easier to identify them.
Got this on amazon today. It is surprisingly hard to take hard drive out of the enclosure. I have to stick something under the drive and pry up a bit in order to take the drive out.
I've got 2 and both work great. One is used daily as PS4 extended storage.
David Mcguire the comment i was looking for
David are you using a ssd with this enclosure for your ps4? I've just bought one and want to use a ssd with it.
@@rynosenekal6523 Do you still use it with your SSD or did it fall apart?
I got a Orico Black Enclosure on Ebay. for $7. Works great!
For those wondering, it DOES pass HDD S.M.A.R.T. data via USB so you can monitor your hard drive health status with Crystal Disk Info or similar tools. TRIM for SSDs may not work though (based on one review I found online) so if you intend to use an SSD in this enclosue a lot, make sure you investigate that in more detail if you don't want your SSD to wear out prematurely in it.
Thank you so much dear , so easy to open but couldn't do so initially. after struggling for sometime ,i could not open , and finally i had to watch this video to open😂
I like the way you make your videos. you put a rich content in every single one, even about a hdd enclosure. Congrats!
In addition to bragging rights (LOL), there's a practical benefit of a transparent cradle: If you have a bunch of SSDs (or 2.5" HDDs) and you put all of them in similar enclosures, you can quickly see which enclosure contains which drive, without resorting to sticker labels or (brr!) sharpies.
I've got one of these, for a 2.5" SSD that I already had on hand. It works just fine. If you happen to have a drive like that lying around, then go for this one.
(If I were starting from scratch, though, I'd get an M.2 module and put THAT into an aluminum enclosure, for some external storage just a little bit larger than a stick of gum.)
Also: This thing is fine for an SSD, but I can't help but think it wouldn't be substantial enough as a reliable home for a mechanical hard drive.
Mechanical hard drive? Why?
Clear plastic tends to be more brittle than other plastics, so might more prone to cracks if dropped I suspect.
I guess this is it, I was looking for a cheap and external USB 3.0 enclosure that is SATA 6Gbit/s compatible... many claim to be USB3.0 but they only run in SATA 3Gbit/s mode, which could bottleneck the SSD even further!
Hey there thanks for the review.
I got one of these and it appears they changed the PCB over the years, the controller is now a JMicron 578 and some of the capacitors and misc components are in different places
There is also no longer a Orico logo on the PCB, only 1 on the cover
Unfortunately I can't bench speeds as I'm using a SATA 2 drive that doenst come close to saturating the chipset
So,You claiming you got JMS578 Chip on the same model reviewed in this Video?
@@Ism4ilBD yep, exact same model
Due to chip short my local seller demanding me high price. So I bought from Daraz(Alibaba) costs (552 tk~92,000 Rupaiya) and seller claiming that enclosure have same chip JMS538.
You should replace the converter controller chip to a better one with the same pin-out.
Sucker for Clear enclosures. also a sucker for red/blue=Purple Access lights.....I'm sold.
Thanks for posting this review. I have been looking at this enclosure as an option. So basically, it's a good and reliable fit for an SSD, but probably too flimsy to be used with a mechanical hard drive? (I would be using an old SSD I used to have in a previous laptop.)
Great video. This really helped me.
I use one of the solid black of this model and it works fine. Received one of this (clear) version today. The cable is bad (connecting/disconnecting...can't connect the drive to see it at all). Used one of my older cables and it worked for a while and then disconnected itself. ??? I don't know but amazon is sending replacement and I'll see what happens.
I might get something like this, it looks pretty cool.
Does it work with USB 2.0 with hdd 2,5'' 5400 RPM? or I'll need to connect it on USB 3.0...
Forgot to mention, I dropped this drive about 1 foot by accident when connecting and the ssd did in fact disengage from the sata connector inside the case. I had to open the case and push it back into the connector. I cut a thin strip of cardboard and laid it inside between the end of the ssd and the end of the case (I think that will prevent that from happening again). However, as in my previous comment, the drive suddenly disconnected and had to unplug the drive and plug it in again to get it to work. Waiting for amazon replacement.
Watch latest unboxing on my UA-cam channel.
lots of ssds... is your dad perhaps Druaga1, or maybe a brother or cousin, with you both using lots of SSDs you have to be somehow related (all jokes aside, great video)
Please help-
What’s the best 2.5” ssh/hdd enclosure that is usb c (into the computer)
Awesome review sir!
Can I connect to this my Android mobile
Can I turn off the LEDs somehow?
Can you show how you made your webserver or like a mock up of how you did it?
mine used it on mac, why the speed is only 40mb/s for read write ?
Tap test is very significant. To save time we simply drop our SSD enclosures from our second story balcony to the offices on the ground floor.
Frequently we miss and the enclosures hit the concrete (same issue when the ground floor attempts to throw the enclosures up to us). Perhaps we should reconsider our current process of exchanging SSDs but, for now, the tap test is useful.
;-)
Seriously, good vid, useful details.
Is Static Electricity an issue with these enclosures - The alloy ones would act like a faraday cage, not sure about these.
Hurts my eye seeing being dropped
can you just unplug the disk enclosure while the PC is still on or do you have to shutdown the PC to get if off.
Do you still have windows 7 on your editing pc?!
Yup
I love your vids
Windows 7 is the best! :D
went to aliexpress , found that they did a video on their product with your video lol
@AA computers. Is this thing only for ssd drives? When i put a seagate 500GB Sata HDD drive, in then it dosent boot in the drive. The blue led lights for a minute or so then goes out
Did I hear a "Togever" in there ?
6:30 how to change another hardisk
USB to microB or USB to type C ? which will be better? difference of $6
so this can work with USB 2.0 port also??
Is it compatible with WD Blue 500GB?
Is their one without a usb case I have a Xbox 360 hard drive I took it apart and took out the ssd I formatted it and that is my new harddrive I am looking for a case for it that doesn’t use usb so yea
... Just here to see how it opens.
I have case same from gearbest with usb-c. I give HDD into case and connect to PC. It make sound which PC makes when something is connected to PC but I dont see disc or something in file manager. HDD is 80GB from Playstation 3 and wasnt formated. Led lights blue (without blinking) after connect and case is "shaking" like platter is working. Will you help me?
Can i play GTA 5 or other games in Samsung Evo 860(Win 10) by using this Case?
i really love those small reviews about stuff we can actually buy (not gtx1080Ti and such) however i would like to see some videos about lets say single board computers! and not just using them as is... for example setting up a smart TV out of a raspberry pi or making a nintendo out of one! really the sensor kit and possibilities are endless it's up to u to be creative and best of all it costs around 50$ however more expensive single board do exist such as latte panda those can run full versions of windows
Does the HD move in the enclosure?
ORICO 2.5 Inch Transparent USB3.0 HDD Can support for toshiba hdd2j53?
seems pretty cool
Can I use this on my Xbox one? No install on computer needed?
Can I put external drive in this case?
what kind of keyboard are you using?
Bro Help Plz
Can I Use Ssd To OTG With MY Phone?????
how to remove SSD from enclosure?
Doing research for my mom's old laptop hdd so she can transfer old photos or files to her new one
I want someone to make a hard drive with the clear top so you can see the hard drive working
Neon Sky if someone had an acrylic or glass cutter I'm sure it could happen, since you can remove the top of the hard drive and it will keep running
well..... That's the coolest idea I have heard all week. Yeah, if you cut a piece of acrylic to size and then drill screw holes in the right places you could probably easily create a transparent cover. The only problem would be that you would have to make it air tight as to prevent any particles from entering the drive and you would need a clean room / box to take the top off the HDD.
A SSD!
The site says it is compatible with MacOS 9.1 and higher.
nice i would buy some
There is no ssd in my laptop so can I install games in a external ssd and play in my laptop??? I don't want to install games in my internal hdd.
Same problem here. I accidentally broked my Laptop's Mthbrd Drive Pins. & i don't want to buy a new motherboard Around 139$.😑
Thanks a lot
That's kinda cool but I'd imagine that it would start to look like crap after a good while.
The casing was actually pretty resistant to scratches. Though I do agree, after a year or 2 of being transported around it would probably look pretty beat up.
could you do a video on how you setup your server??
Cool I love its perfect I love it!!!
my hdd not working.
I think it's pretty usefull.
Interesting Preview. Good Enclosure. Regards from Europe from my Channel Bro's
why didn't you do a speed test on this ?
I did, watch the whole video
I do upgrade with 1TB SSD my laptop with my Original HDD 1TB too.
Nice
Anyone know where I can get working Windows 7 product keys FREE?
Not free but actually legal
www.kinguin.net/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=windows+7
i got the usb c version
3:06 but plastic can't crack...
Clearly never dropped a sheet of plastic
Dayz Me Rollin' which would crack first and more easily a glass screen or a plastic screen?
Depends on the thickness of either of them, usually glass, plastic can if you're dumb with it.
sha106b nice
Yeah it fucking can
awesome :D
How to remove? Help please thanks
Do you know how to remove SSD from enclosure?
THANKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I got it for 5 dollars on aliexpress
A similar review of Orico 3588US3 is here as well
ua-cam.com/video/KAp2UlDQFgQ/v-deo.html
i cant get it to get out lmao
how to remove ssd lol?
Столько бесполезной болтовни о кармане. Жесть. Заплатили не слабо, видимо)))
Micro USB? What the heck, is it year 2010 or some shit?
Buy an SSD to show off to your friends? Is that what you kids do nowadays?
You asked us to tell you what we didn't like ... I can't stand the way you talk, stretching words/sentences out so they taper off. Also, at the end of the presentation, I didn't like how you weren't looking at the camera when you were speaking to us, especially when what you were saying was: please support me!
I dont recommend this at all. Bought it and sold it away.
Once the HDD goes in, its almost impossible to get it out without forcing the hdd up, possibly damaging the connectors. Not good at all.
Is your hdd 11mm thick?
@@andrijuliansyah3297 7mm. This case is good if your not planning on taking the hdd out allot of times. it gets really stuck in that thight fit
1st
You actually are, congrats!
not anymore....you are like 15th on my end....
please no more drive enclosures u should just call ur channel drive enclosures reviews
That was the last one in storage and there are none on the way, so it will be a long time before the next drive enclosure review.
AA Computers and Technology thank you there were just so many
I hate these boring hdd enclosure reviews there boring and old
