    Nick, YOU are THE MAN!!! Folks locally were trying to charge me crazy money $125 to do this. They have to be out of their minds. I am not a newbie to this part. This is not rocket science, but they tried to charge me as if it was. :) You are the best, sir!

      @@nickscomputerfix I have one problem though. I'm not sure why I can't find a HD enclosure to fit my very old, 2012, desktop hard drive? On the HD label, it says SATA 3.0 Gb/s RPM 72000 RPM, but when I do a ruler tape measurement, the size is 4" wide and 5.75" long. All of the HD enclosures on Amazon say 2.5" or 3.5". 🤷

    • @nickscomputerfix
      @nickscomputerfix  Рік тому +1

      That might sound like a strange size. However, most 3.5 inch mechanical hard drives actually measure around 4 inches wide and about 5.8 inches long. The thickness is some where around 0.8 inches I believe. Also most desktop mechanical hard drive manufacturers stay within these measurements for most part.

    • @tourinojacks5844
      @tourinojacks5844 Рік тому +1

      @@nickscomputerfix Yeah I did more research and discovered that the 3.5" refers to the actual mechanical board portion not the size of the casing itself which is another .05" more which makes the combined unit 4" wide. See, we both learned and taught each other something yesterday. 😁

    I believe those pads are not for a spacer. You can split them and peel one side off and place them on the bottom for feet to prevent it scratching the bottom of the SSD holder or whatever you seat it on.
    I watched your upload to try and find out how to open the clear plastic case, I was close to breaking it. Just stiff but open now.😊

    Mine didn't work out of the packet (new hard drive). I had to press windows + x then to disk management then had to press the OK button to initialize the (new) disk (GPT) then I had to scroll down to the unallocated space and right click in that. then click on New Simple Volume then Next, Next, Next and it gave it a new letter (E in my case) and quick format. Worked perfectly after that.

    My Samsung EVO SATA SSD does not work on my laptop using one of these enclosures. I read it has to be plugged into the motehrboard but on my laptop I only have a spare M.2 slot so I have been really struggling to find something that will let me read/copy my old SSD.
    Any tips?

    hows the heat? how hot does it get? and is trim command available since its usb connected

    • @nickscomputerfix
      @nickscomputerfix  Рік тому +1

      It does get a little warm to hot during usage. Temperature will vary depending on if you are using a SSD or HD and how often you are accessing the drive. I sometimes just leave the enclosure half open when doing constant file transfers for extended amount of time, to allow for cooler running temperatures. Some laptop computers allow trim and others don't.

    I'm having trouble taking the drive OUT! I want to put a different drive into the enclosure, but I'm having trouble pulling the old one out. You think it'd be obvious, but it's not. I don't want to force it. Or maybe I'm just being too careful! But it seems stuck!
