I am 73 years old and have been gardening since I got the added chore of weeding when I was 5 years old. That is the slickest way I have ever seen for shucking sweet corn. Outstanding young man!!!
Well Jared there will be a lot of folks who will appreciate this video, especially the women. You sure planted a big garden this year.Everyone is complaining about getting stung by bee’s this year. Their nest is in the ground. They are having trouble harvesting their crop. Even their dogs are getting stung .Have you seen any .? We haven’t seen the kids for a while, how are they doing .? God bless and take care.
Wow....I am 74 years old and have shucked lots of corn but this is first time I have ever seen corn shucked like this but I didn't know anything about the internet back in the day...LOL...raised 5 youngins and they sure loved corn so I put a lot of it away!!!!
I remember having to shuck that stuff. The weather would be hot and humid; the silk from the corn stuck to your skin; my mother could cut the corn off that cob like nobody I've seen. Boy that corn sure tastes good in the winter. Yum!
Hey Y'all I aint never see nobody shuck corn thata way. Thats a mighty fine way y'all got there. I'm gonna have to borrow that from y'all. thank you for the mighty fine video today. God bless you your family and farm brother take care bye for now
My granny was from Floyd County Kentucky. I helped her put up a load of corn and saurkraut. She had a board with an angled blade that had belonged to her mommy. Granny was 86, when she passed in 2000, lordy mercy how I miss that woman
OMG... does that bring back memories! I was farm-raised, we had huge truck Gardens we would sell produce roadside while great-grandmother, grandmother, mother would be canning Under The Apple Tree with a large Black Cauldron going.
Jared now that is something! Who would have thought? Amazed by that. Thank you for sharing this. Memories as a kid shucking corn on the porch with my family I will never forget. Can't beat good country living. Y'all have a Blessed Day Friends. Justin
That's the first time I've ever seen anybody process their corn in the way that you did. I see your using a high carbon Dexter knife. I have a set of those all the way down to a paring knife and I really like using them. They really seem to hold a good Edge on them.
Howdy Jared- we’ve raised and put up corn my whole life and I’ve done learned something today. I’ve never seen it shucked that way before. Thank you for sharing this. Y’all take care and the Lord’s blessings to y’all
What a great way to work corn up!! Going to have to put this to use sometime soon!! Just a reminder that the Galax Fiddlers Convention begins next Monday. It's the 85th year. People will start showing up with their campers by the end of this week. My little city rocks during Fiddlers week...they come from all over the world. Great to see Laken and Finley again...tell the girls we miss seeing them. Hope ya'll have a great week...God bless!
Thanks for the video! Looks like you had some great helpers. Even Finn was trying to help save his mamma some work by getting rid of some of that corn! Lol
Mom and I were just talking about how she can't shuck corn anymore because she's lost the strength in her hands due to a medical condition. I imagine she most certainly could do part of this method, if one of us did the chopping off of the end, then she could do the shaking bit over a pan. Thank you so much for sharing this way it will raise her spirits knowing she's still able to do part of the process. Be well and God bless y'all! 🙏🏻😊🌻
The shucking method is great. For the ladies, may I recommend a V blade mandolin? I have one that I bought probably 10 yrs ago. I use it to slice all kinds of veggies. It's especiaaly great at slicing cucumbers for pickles, squash and zucchini for pickles/processing. But the thing that makes me fall to my knees and thank the Lord I have it, is when I have a load of corn to take of the cob. You just push the corn long ways over the blade. It takes sections of kernels off perfectly, quickly and contains them in the bowl its propped over. I wish I had made a video, but we got all our corn put up about 2 weeks ago.
That shucking works great. Have you ever seen ''Tractor Time with Tim'' He puts the shucked cobs on a cordless drill and uses some type of gadget to get the kernels off, really fast.
Looks great. Gonna have to get you a different bunt pan with a bigger hole for next time lol. Love those old hickory knives. I got me a set too! One thing you might want to get is a pair of rubberized BBQ gloves. I got a set from amazon and they are great for stuff like getting that corn out of the boiling water. I got mine for processing chickens but they would work great for you scalding that corn too! Keep it up buddy. You are doing a great job.
I have a corn cutter that splits the kernels as you run the corn cob over it. Makes the best creamed corn you ever ate, and you don't have to add anything to it. Also it works great in corn fritters.
So you’re blanching it on the cob in the husk and then shucking it. Definitely an outdoor endeavor, but much faster than how we do it. We shuck it the traditional way then slice it off the cob and blanch it. Cool the pan in ice water then into the freezer bags. Hard work but I can do it in the mechanical room in the basement in the air conditioning. Everything is a trade off.😊
Thanks Jared... and crew. Never seen it shucked that way, but will do it from now on. Might want to show people what corn looks like when to pick it. God Bless and stay safe.
Thanks never seen this be will so handy. When me and adopted granny put up her corn. The budnt pan trick will help us as well. She is 90 still out working her own fields. We can and dry and freeze things as well. Subscribed too thank you.
Good Job!! I tried mine this way and couldn’t sling it outta the shucks. Lol. I’ll try banging it on the side of the pot next batch. Great way to get rid of those pesky silks though. Makes for great family time too! Thanks Jarred.
Great job shucking the corn Jared, got a great start on the corn canning. You all are going to be busy for awhile putting up vittles for the winter. Thanks for sharing with us. Looking good around there, Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
That way works for micro corn, too. I freeze corn. Just as it comes from the stalk. No blanching. To cook I throw it in the micro 1 minute, cut off the butt, put it back in for 3 minutes, and squeeze it out of the shucks. The silk comes off just like that. Try an ear or two. I swear it works good. I just put it in a cardboard box in the freezer. No wrap, no bag, nothing. The one minute is so I can cut off the stalk because I'm not so strong any more (old), and it's easier. It lasts just fine from year to year. I do one ear at a time in the micro. I'm sure you could do more, I just don't know the timing for that.
Mighty impressed with the accuracy of your eye to hand cutting of the end of the ear off … in one fell swoop! That’s quite the “production line”🌽. How much more do you still have growing? What do you do with the shucks? Can it be chopped & fed to cows or pigs? ( sorry about all the questions 😉🙃)
welllllllllllllllll I,ll be dipped in sheep water have never seen corn done like that-lol God bless PS==wish I was there to get some of that corn up my nose as I ate it😂😂🤣

My granny was from Floyd County Kentucky. I helped her put up a load of corn and saurkraut. She had a board with an angled blade that had belonged to her mommy. Granny was 86, when she passed in 2000, lordy mercy how I miss that woman
This is the best way to shuck corn I have ever seen .
I can't even count the hundreds of hours spent shucking corn and fighting with the silk...this is a definite "try" for the next batch of corn!
Memories….every year of my teenage years was spent helping with canning veggies. ♥️

WOW!!!!!!!!! You are one fine corn shucker!!! Never seen that before ... very impressed! Thanks for the lesson.
As an urban gardner, I have grown a few rows but i never saw your method of shucking before, I am impressed Jared!👍🏼

I bet that corn tastes so good in the middle of winter. God bless you folks!
Man been a while since I seen corn shucked that way. Thanks for the memories.
Genius way to shuck corn! Never heard of this before. Thank you.

That’s a first for me! Learn something new every day, sometimes without trying! Gotta find me a corn patch…

Hello Jered just love the way you work the corn, and thanks for sharing your video, say hello to the family, my lord and my god
Patrick
Well now that's what I call expertise. Great job. Thank you so much for sharing, your friend, Louise
That's the first time I've seen it shucked like that. It most definitely seems like a quick and clean method.
So you’re blanching it on the cob in the husk and then shucking it. Definitely an outdoor endeavor, but much faster than how we do it. Thanks for the info. Videos like this make me want to try to grow a garden next year.
Best corn I’ve ever ate.
Besides the fact that I’ve learned a lot from y’all, I’d watch your videos just for the music!

Do you use the scraps for the animals? That was interesting, thankyou for sharing. God bless you all! Happy eating 😋! 😇🙏❤
I was wondering the same thing. Jared are the scraps suitable for chickens?
Good job fluty lick family! Are you planning to or have you ever pickled any of your corn? Tfs and God bless.
That is a good trick! Wish I had known this years ago.
That looks so much easier than how we've always done it! What about if you have worms on the end of the corn or if the ends are squishy/eaten?
Wow what a great idea I've never seen that before! That's awesome ty🥰💐
Just curious how did Mr. Danny’s corn come in? Great video and family fellowship. Slid right out of the cob! Impressive.
