When the drum cam video first dropped, we were ALL blown away because it was the first time they had EVER done that. Sure, you can find unofficial drum cam footage shot from the side of the stage or from the audience, but NEVER have we seen footage of Danny playing during a concert like that drum cam. So yeah, we ALL want more of these types of videos. Glad you enjoyed it the 2nd time around; so cool getting to see you finally come full circle back to this song.
Our shadows are two dimensional castings of our three dimensional flesh, Our flesh are shadows of 4th dimensional beings. Wake up. Remember. We are eternal, all this pain is just an illusion.
There was some drum instructor on UA-cam that I was watching who said, “I could go home and practice this every day for the rest of my life and still not be able to play this.” This is a professional drum instructor.
To me, this song is saying that we all came from one spark, which was the pneuma, or the breath of life, and we all should wake up to remember that we are part of that same pneuma. Very Bill Hicks, right? Matter is energy vibrating on a constant and we are just the universe in solid form experiencing itself...
He truly is. Sometimes I wonder if I'm biased because I love the band so much. He deserves the nickname The Octopus. Seeing them live is a different level. His drums are like cannons that shake your bones. Yes, Tool concerts are super loud. 🤘👁👁👁🤘
I always love the smile you have at the beginning of every tool song. It's like you're thinking "yupp, another good one" lol. There isn't one bad Tool song. Never was, never will be.
I feel like Justin's bass has more presence on this album than in the past. Not that he's been buried in the mix in the past. It's just a smidge more out front. I love it.
I mispoke on the 'Fear Innoculum' reaction, this song was the one that made me start crying. At the end after the long instrumental piece when Maynard comes back in. It's very intense. I think you're right about what this song's trying to get across, but I'd like to add a little bit more to it that I get out of the lyrics. "We are born of one breath, one word. We are all one spark, sun becoming." It's also that we are all born out of the same thing. We are all together in this world and in the end are all the same. It seems very much to me a call for empathy with other people, and to treat others as ourselves. We are not an island, and we can all as part of our self-improvement improve how we treat others.
its quite funny seeing reaction channels start off with tool not sure how to react or groove with the time signatures but then after a few songs they realize all you have to do is close your eyes and just let them do their thing
I made the mistake to listen to Invincible while I was shopping groceries and I didn´t know what hit me. I had shivers down my spine, goosebumps, lump in my throat and started sobbing and I didn´t notice at first it was the song. Then I stopped and listened and knew what hit me. Only Tool can do that. And talking about Maynard´s voice, one would think after decades of singing and at that age the voice would sound kinda more rough but he sounds angelic, so clear and soft. It is wonderful.
I think he’s been very cautious about what he’s put in his body and how he really takes care of his voice. Probably a reaction to blowing it out recording the Lateralus album.
Omg! Invincible is next then Descending Next 2 week are speechless. I so can't wait to our homie Skullz to hear these, and then I look forward the Grammy winner 7empest
I have only seen Tool 5 times. Them live is generally something close to a religious experience, but in 2020 when I saw them play this song all I could do was stand there and cry. I think this is Tool's true masterpiece.
💯 I cried each time I saw Pneuma live on FI tour. Had 2nd row seats in between Adam and Danny one show, it was such a primitive & spiritual experience. 🌀💫
Oh man, I need to watch them live before they leave, I'm from Latin America, so I have to collect a lot of money to travel to North or Europe. I wish they do this at least 5 years more!
That break at 17:10 and the subsequent drop at 17:26 gets me everytime. Makes me wanna go apeshit no matter where I am listening to this. Even that last kick right at the beginning of the break seems to have special weight to it. Monumental!
It really is Danny’s masterpiece. He just tears it up on that song… almost too much lol. But it is absolutely amazing how a drummer as good as him still can evolve and get even better!
As simple as it is I love that you can hear the string noise of the guitar. It gives me a feeling that no matter how epic the sound is it's still of mortal hands. I'm no sound expert but it's ment to be pretty easy to mute the sound between those chords. Nothing is an accident in Tools music. On the lyrics it's almost a parabola part 2 in theme. We are more than the meat vessel we drive around in. While our bodies; injure, age, die and decompose our consciousness is what gives us our divinity and meaning. Stunning song. Great reaction
It took seeing this one live for the first time to really make it hit. The light show they do for it is wild, I can never unsee it as it transitions to the "chorus" part. This one is the best one on Fear Inoculum, hands down
The canyon analogy is an important one. It is usually only through personal tragedy that we can face the possibility of a redemption on the other side. An immaterial possibility that is made manifest in the tangible world.
This album and Lateralus album are literally my meditative albums...when I'm on the verge of a panic attack I just throw on either of the 2 albums and my anxiety goes down..the other albums are just easy listen for me but there's just something about Fear Inoculum and Lateralus that just calms me down
The main theme of the album is polarity. The title track is about fear versus bravery and pneuma is about the individual and the collective spirit. Pneuma highlights the beauty of how humans can create, aspire and connect while calling the individual to act and realise 10/10 would listen to it for the first time again
My 6 year old son loves this song and will ask for it by name!! My 14 year old son thinks the next song is the best on the album. Personally, I love to listen to this album start to finish as much and often as I can! Great breakdown Skullz. Been a long time coming.
You can really see the bands' evolution with this album. This is 4 guys who have perfected their craft through the years and they come together to deliver this masterpiece of an album. I like that you bring up Adams style here, the best I've heard him described is as an artist who paints with his guitar. I think that fits him perfect. Can't wait to watch you progress through the album. Enjoy!
This might be my new favorite Tool song, tho to pick a favorite Tool song is almost akin to picking your favorite child... you love them all. I've really enjoyed watching this journey of a rap artist turned bonafide Tool fan! Tool shirts now! That's awesome! Lol. So much fun reliving this band vicariously through new eyes like this. Your analysis is fun and insightful too.
Out of all the Tool songs this one is by far my favorite for Danny's drum arrangement, I don't understand how he could even come up with something like this 😆 it's simply amazing
In the intro where you said Fear Inoculum feels related to Pushit - I agree. I feel like Pushit was Tool hinting at what they would eventually become. About Pneuma: It is a great example of how Tool is exceptional at ending songs. Even on my first listen, while the entire song was amazing, I especially loved the outtro, which doesn’t get a lot of love from reacters. Understandable though since there is so much to take in overall. My advantage is that I don’t even try to hear and interpret the lyrics until after at least a few listens. But I love the fact you do try on the first listen. Keep up the great content!
This the track that I loved first. Now I love them all, but I had this on repeat for days back in 2019. 13 years was too long, but "Fear" has more than made it's mark. 🤘😎
Nice call in Maynard being more upfront vs the held-back anger in Undertow. It’s weird Danny is laid-back in the mix. He’s carrying a lot of the song’s melody to me. Most of the time I was listening to Adam to feel the beat. Also amazing at this point there’s nothing Danny does that’s surprising anymore. He casually lays down a rhythm, a fill, or breakdown or something else never heard before and we’re like, “Yep.”
Skulls, I love seeing your reations to Tool, I can't wait to see how you go with Invincible, Descending and Tempest. This album still blows me away every time.

Little tidbit, the next track (segway) is what they've been using to open their shows to support FI. Invincible is going to make you poop your pants. See you next week.
Welcome to Tool evolved. Sad that some fans didn't evolve as well. That's where the criticism comes from. Pneuma is more like going to mass. You experience it. And an experience! 🤯
This has not been hard confirmed... But some believe FI album contains snippits of past riffs/fills from Tools discography. This just could be coincidence, or intentional. Even though lyrics are written later (band talks about ideas), it would almost parallel the idea that little bits of what you went through in the past (antibodies) help protect you from future infection, it is part of who you are.
since you enjoyed fear inoculum on your first listen that much, I think you'll really love the rest of the album, and it may even become your favorite...
here is the main key verse from the bible with the word pneuma in it .. '"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit (pneuma), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."' good reaction Skullz ..
Me : ok this one is called Pneuma-it’s like a drum solo that they built a song around. You’ll hear some stuff that sounds like plucked single strings on a muted guitar-but they are actually electronic drums-and some really really virtuosic fills. My dad: Oh-like Wipeout. Me : Yyyyyeah… like Wipeout🤦♂️

I always considered the “child” verse to be the universe attempting to wake up the protagonist, attempting to get them to see beyond the flesh and move on. Re: Masterpieces. This is a good Danny track, one of his best, but I think too many people anoint it his masterpiece because of the drum cam video. There are better Danny performances out there. This album, IMO, is Adam’s magnum opus. He’s never been better and the length of the songs allow him so much room to show his true talents. Lateralus was Danny’s best work and 10k Days is Justin’s. Also, note lyrical parallels in this track and end of Lateralus (the track)
This one gets me every time, especially when it kicks in with the heavy guitar section. Then it transitions so smoothly back into the main themes. Definitely one of Danny’a best. But watch out for descending and invincible, too. Those are fantastic. If you get around to Mastodon at some point there’s a great drum video highlighting brann dailor’s work: m.ua-cam.com/video/HBqyOZdabJA/v-deo.html
Pretty sure this is not your first time hearing this :D It's all good though, I find it hard to believe that any of the reactors who really get into Tool actually hold back on listening to the entire catalogue as soon as possible, I just don't buy they can hold off for weeks and months just to maintain a YT release schedule :D
Speaking as a drummer myself, I still think Rosetta Stoned is Danny's masterpiece.
Every song is Danny's masterpiece
i feel its Tempest where he unleashes his inner beast mode
Rosetta Stoned has to be one of the craziest drum parts I have ever heard.
Agree. John Kew's drum cover of Rosetta Stoned is UNREAL

I get emotional at the climax of this song almost every time I hear it. Only really great music can do that
This one and the ending of 7empest does it for me
yeah, or Celine Dion
This song and Parabola always get me chiils, dunno why but is feel so damn good.
Danny's drumsticks look like hummingbird wings in his hands when he plays this. ✌️
