This to me is the dark horse of the album. No one really mentions it, but when you listen to it…man it goes so hard.

Absolutely their most sonically satisfying album to date. 3 years old and already a timeless masterpiece. The most beloved band in the history of this planet. Top 5 on Saturn as well.

This song is, to me, the creepiest song they have made. It’s the fear that arises after you think you’ve got it “all figured out”; workouts, meditation, relationships. Abundance.It’s all going great, until it’s not. Until you face a test from the universe and come up wanting. Happens to the best of us, but still. Keep your head up on the path
i find disgustipated the creepiest and most disturbing by far. not really a song but it features percussion. The sound of the lambs, the chief yelling to the followers, it gives me the creeps..

Don't get creepy either. To me this is Maynard, a very private person, bashing the culture of social media. People making up stories and encounters that never happened, making judgements based on others comments, feeling they have some given right to a relationship with anyone. He wants no part of it (don't point that at me).

As someone whose seen TOOL 11x live, and considers himself to be one of the biggest TOOL fans, if not the biggest, and whose researched and thought about their songs heavily; I'm always surprised by your reviews and thoughts on the songs. Noteworthy, in the live performances, Danny starts out playing the acoustic guitar for the intro and first verse. It really adds to the haunting feel.
Yup, saw them live in Sacramento this past January. Their first time ever playing this song live. It was so cool to see them all sitting together at the front of the stage playing acoustically.
Yeah this was a highlight of the show definitely. Was so funny seeing Danny using Adam's Les Paul, make it look like a toy guitar haha

Such a small amount of words to this song, but I connect with all of it. I was terrorized as a child in a neighborhood I lived in and my home at that time was not sanctuary, but a place floored with eggshells. I would repeat in my head nearing the end of my 2nd grade school days, "More school. Less home." Just imagine what that means for an 8 year old to be chanting that in their head. It unfortunately shaped me into a very untrusting person. I'm either always reaching out for connection or hiding away in isolation. Always dwelling upon recent conversations and what wasn't said to me but was thought of me. The bad things kept from me that will eventually blow up in my face. It's hard to shut down these thoughts that always ultimately become self-fulfilling prophecy. I also have occasional dreams of having it out with that family that didn't protect me when I needed it and only made me feel unwelcomed and like a bad child. I know these conversations will never happen and that I'll never get those family members to understand what they did wrong. I haven't spoken to them in a couple years even though we live in the same town still. That closeness always weighs on me. I still don't feel free from it. I still don't feel that my home is my sanctuary.
You became your own protector and safe space. Don’t forget that when you’re considering what you lost as well. That’s amazing.
I had the same experience as a child. The abuse didn't stop at school for me. I was viciously bullied and ostracized throughout my school career and also had to deal with a horrible and abusive home life. I also grew into an untrusting and hypervigilant individual and regularly would play out these "imagined interplays" and "altercations we've never had" as I confronted my abusers. I also don't talk to my family. I hope things get easier for you and you find the sanctuary you deserve.
@@Dr.Faceman That's exactly how is was for me. School became terrible in junior high and up because I developed a severe fight/flight concept that made me a target. It's not all my family. I had a loving mother but she was working nights and it was her sister's family that abused me. Overall, my family has issues of stubbornness, that Japanese judgemental type shit and I always felt like I was looked down upon, but I do have a relationship with some of my family. Just not the ones that live closest to me. I have to remember that most people don't understand what I've been through and I can't force that on them. I have to see it from their perspective of how I come across and adjust accordingly if I'm to be able to coexist with others. It's hard, but it's possible and all up to me. I am responsible for myself regardless of who's at fault for how I became.
I had heard an interesting take on Culling Voices that has stayed with me: its a criticism of social media and how it brings out the worst in people. Getting into arguments with complete strangers online benefits no one but only feeds into the psychopathy that we immerse ourselves in.

As time goes by. This album will emerge as their greatest work. A masterpiece and one of much debate. For the record I think they're all quintessential. ✌️

Well we all need to appreciate the complexity of this art before it's gone. This band is in a world of its own.
I like how Maynard comes into this song literally on an odd part. It adds to the unsettling feel of the song. Then he has the one line then Adam comes in on the even part then it evens out. I personally relate too much to this song. For me it’s about how the inner workings of your mind can prey upon you and even victimize you in never ending cycles unless you recognize it and end it.
This song had all members sit down together for the start and confetti dropping down all across the stadium during the 2022 concert.

Seeing this live made me fall in love with the song even more. I'd say my favourite track of the new album, atleast in the top three.
I was at the show that they played this live for the first time. It was really cool and unexpected. All 4 of them sat in a semi-circle at the front of the stage with Maynard singing and the other 3 (even Danny) playing guitar
Man this guy knows how to build suspense.
For me the most amazing thing that Tool does is see normally you have a thought and it triggers an emotion with tool they have the ability to trigger emotions absent the intrusive thoughts or the thoughts in general that trigger the emotion. They're a cathartic band for me because it's almost like a trigger for emotions you may not have an outlet for. There are literally times where I have started tearing up and I don't even know why
Danny plays guitar live in a semi circle with Adam, Justin & Maynard singing it's amazing so Danny's is there in the beginning 😀 he gets up after & gets to the drums asap.

This is Adam's album from start to finish. He's at his absolute best on all the tracks.
This record is a little harder to get the groove worked into _your soul but once it gets traction the greatness reveals itself and you can never escape the truth that it's flat out bad ass.
Btw 7empest is the heaviest song on the album and I love the buildup to it, Tools albums when played all the way through is such a treat
You really need to check out the video of the live debut of this song. The intro is perfection. I won’t spoil it, you’ll see why

So what’s really cool, is that when played live, Danny plays the beginning guitar riff. Then when the repeating riff fades, his drum part begins. Interesting seeing the drummer play a different instrument!

This track live follows choc trip trip. A Danny solo song that is every bit as epic live as ud think. Then he does this sweet synth, follows up with the guitar! and takes us back 2 school on the kit. I MEAN COME ON! LEGEND

Yeah, you can see how Tool is playing smarter not harder on this one. Like an aging NBA player picking his spots instead of driving to the bucket all the time. Also feeling that theme in the tone too, sorta like Skullz, the more I listen to it-it’s been like 3 years and I’m still slowly warning up to this album. In a good way though.

We love you too brother!! Me and my fiance (Wife on layaway) have been here since the very beginning of your Tool journey almost what seems like a spiritual rebirth for you! Idk I could just be projecting what happened to me and what Tool did for me during a time of real struggle and rapid loss of motivation to keep going, now I have always had Tool in my life my mom played the Opiate EP all the time when I was a little kid so I have always had them, but my rebirth came after my last deployment in which I sustained a life altering injury. I ended up with a debilitating opiate addiction, ended costing me my 1st marriage that and my P.T.S.D. Of course I promised myself i would never us that as a crutch or excuse for my behavior. Anyways my love for Tool and my rediscovery of the feelings I always got from Tool before all that happened, and well that is what lead to my rebirth and not having to think so hard on a reason to not to pull the trigger of the gun in my mouth (sorry for the graphic nature of this story, but it's context.) So from there on I promised myself that I will allow myself to be Ok that I didn't have to be guilty for making it back home when so many didn't. Ultimately this is when I met my Michelle and she has helped me this whole time and understood my spiritual and emotional connection to Tool, so they became a essential part of my recovey and therapy and I guess what I am trying to convey is that you can be standing at the precipice of pure self-destruction and still reach out and come back from it if you can find a reason to come back and start to push forward in the other direction. So Skullz again thanks for your kind words and again we Love you too man and thanks for using your platform for positive reinforcement by simply listening to great and impactful music with your friends. Keep up the great work man. ( Also sorry for the length of this soliloquy, this all just hit me a different way and felt compelled to share it with this special group of people that are your fans, so again thank you for all that you do).

The climax of this album is so satisfying the whole catalog is one big epic journey up until this point, Maynard already concurred the shadow and fought with his ego and this is him defeating the ego to become one’s true self 🙏
TOOL is therapy. You are realizing why they are held so dear to those of us who have grasped that concept.

This song is about false accusations and bringing to him/them altercations/conversations "we never had" and accusations "without evidence."
I believe it was inspired by something that happened in 2018. Shortly after the latest APC album came out, a brand new, anonymous Twitter account came out and accused Maynard of rape. They gave few details, and Maynard only responded to say it's disgustingly false. They wouldn't really answer many questions, and then said they were going to do an interview with Rolling Stone about it. Instead the account was deleted shortly after and nothing about it was ever heard from again. No interview ever took place.

Loving your journey with this album. Invincible and Descending are my two favorites. The interesting thing about invincible, which I know you liked but it wasn't your favorite, is that I think a lot of my enjoyment of it has to do with the fact that I'm older. At 41, I'm really certain to feel a lot of what that song is conveying. However 15 years ago I don't think that it would have had the same impact on me.

I was fortunate to be at the show in Sacramento when they played this live for the first time. This wasn't particularly one of my favorite songs off FI. I left with a much different appreciation for this song. Seeing the four of them sitting down at the front of the stage was new. The lights and this shiny confetti they dropped from the ceiling in very subdued blue/purple lighting, it felt like the confetti was weightless and floating in mid air. It was beautiful.
Saw this song live and they drop confetti during the song. And each was a puzzle piece that had print on it that made different tool logo designs.
This song resonated with me strongly. Through my life experience it caused me to think back on the concept the older you become and the more knowledge you obtain, the closer your eye gets to the keyhole to see and become aware of how little you actually know. The universe is too big and too old to ever "arrive."

So I've been "aware" of Tool since Sober was a MTV staple, and could certainly identify them when I heard them, but just never really LISTENED.
But I bought tickets to a festival where Tool is the headliner on the last day ( for Tool Army folks, Pusifer is also playing, 2 days earlier). I decided to dive in. I stumbled on your videos and am now going track by track listening, and then watching your corresponding reaction. Should be fun.

Musically this song seems to share some DNA with the trilogy in Lateralus almost, I feel like a slower Triad energy in this song. Also shares that theme of crucifying the ego found in reflection.

Welcome back bro, I figure your going to do Chocolate Chip Trip next which is a Danny instrumental where he incorporated other electric synth sounds with the drums.
But wait till you react to Tempest (7empest) that song is a ride bro, Adam has like a 4 1/2 minutes guitar solo in it. Plus Tempest won a Grammy for best Rock/Metal song in 2019, and really sticks out on this album. Be ready to rock out when you do the reaction. Absolutely 💯🔥 and really shows the creative musicianship of the whole band IMO.
I really really hope you will listen to the album in full length as one piece after you are done with this reaction stuff.
Alot about this song gives me the vibe of something you said at one point, that this is a person too stuck in their own head. They run these hypothetical scenarios in their head of how conversations should go or should have gone if they thought of the right thing to say. I know my anxiety can get me into that kind of head space sometimes. But, the narrator of this song seems to go the extra mile and can't distinguish that these mental constructions aren't real.
May take on this song has been that it’s the conversations you go over in your head with people that have different views. Even though you may like the same things in other areas, there’s one point of view that keeps you from speaking. So you have these heated conversations in your head that keep you from talking to each other.

Sounds almost like a wink to Tori Amos. I'm sure there has to be a duet mix or performance with the two, sometime in the future. Tori's high's would kill on this track.

I dont know if anyone else feels this but the beginning of this song through the verses, if you didn't know, you may not be able to guess that it's TooL, I mean we know because we're the TooL Army, but to the semi familiar you may not nail it as TooL right away...UNTIL a very distinct moment in the song.....and at that point you know beyond any shadow of doubt that it's TooL....anyone know the part?
