Saw them many times. A jam band that could pass the solos around. Motown wanted some of that rock and roll money, so this was their cross over band. Rare Earth could play as the lead act and do a 1 hour show with no more than 6-7 songs. In the classic rock concert days (70-75 ish), these guys were one of my Top 5 best ever shows. Pete Rivera on drums and vocals!!!
You gotta do that long version of Get Ready performance by Rare Earth In that one each band member gets a chance to solo it's really nice it's long it's pretty cool also on that album is a song called tobacco road you got to do that one bro you would like it a lot of bass and in that long version get ready there's a base Solo in there too
Really impressed on how fast you caught on that this was originally a Temptations song, keep it up. This is also the short version of this song by Rare Earth.
"Rare Earth" is actually on the "Motown" record label. And I also, being 65 years old remember listening to The Temptations and all of the other Motown artists back in the 60s and early 70s. This is an excellent cover of the original. More Rare Earth would be nice. Thanks
You need to listen to the full uncut song which has some great solos of most if not all players. Also a little trivia.. Rare Earth was the only white band to ever be signed by MOTOWN Records.

You are looking at live footage from American Bandstand but the track is the studio short version. That's why nothing really matches up. The actual song is quite long.
Massillon? I'm down the road in Millersburg. Rare Earth from Detroit. They had a great local following and when they hit the studio, Pete said they told me to sing. I'm looking at G Knight and Marvin Gaye and they want me to sing?
Love this song. Rare Earth was one of of the few if only rock bands on Motown. The Temptation version was #1 on R&B but #29 on the pop charts and Rare Earth version hit #4 on the pop charts a few years later as a cover. I play bass in my band and always fills the dance floor when played. Check out the long version with the bass and drum solo. As a bass player you will like it.
Good stuff Jim. Get Ready will fill the dance floor for many years to come as new generations enjoy the old school r&b/funk. I've already reacted to the long version and I love the solos!

@KTMusicGroup maybe try "I just want to celebrate another day of living " My football team, especially the linemen, used sing this as we came off the practice field..From us, it sounded more like prayer, than a soulful rocker!
Remember there is a reason that Motown of all people signed Rare Earth to a record contract!!!!! The white boys have a lot of sole in their spirit!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍 So says Austin Tx!!!!!!!🥳🥳🥳😎🍸
Great reaction! My first time watching your channel and I subscribed based on your knowledge. And yes, wasn’t there more percussion (conga & tambourine, etc.) back in the day?!! Miss that. 🤪
@@ronphillips2941 Wow! Eddie Guzman was your Uncle? !! Respect. And RIP. I loved their sound. To me it was a Rock version of Soul and Motown (They were on the Motown label, I believe). And this track especially because it was done by the Temptations. But I miss percussion - seems like it was used more back then. Thanks ✨🤪
Yes Eddy was a great player I got to go with him on some gigs 25yrs ago met alot of people Martha Reeves blood sweet and tears, Doobie Brothers , Guess Who just to name a few and learned alot! Have his old congas, timbales . I also play also
The drummer is Peter Hoorelbeke (AKA Riviera). Pete and Deep Purple's Ian Paice are the two best drummers I have heard. This is not a live version. It is an edited version from the studio album. The full album version is 21:30 minutes. Two other great Rare Earth tracks are "I Couldn't Believe What Happened Last Night" and "Ma"
This shocks folks just like Dolly Pardon writing "I Will Always LOVE YOU" in 1974 and Whitney Houston having a hit again in the early 1990's. People are shocked it's not Whitney's song. You can google Dolly's original here on YT... ; ))
I didn't find out that Dolly Parton wrote and performed "I will Always Love You" until the 2000s. I am gonna come back and react to the long version of this soon!
One of the best live show I have ever seen and I saw them many time and was never disappointed. They brought the house down it is amazing to watch Peter Rivera perform.
"Get Ready" is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. No. 29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. No. 4 version by Rare Earth in 1970. It is significant for being the last song Robinson wrote and produced for the Temptations...
Saw them in early 80s in a small club in a strip.mall in Ft. Smith, ARK. We all piled in a van and drove an hour from college in Fayetteville to the gig. It was an awesome show but they kept blowing out the power every 30 minutes. It didnt keep the band or fans down. We both just partied our asses off.
This is a 45 rpm edit the lp version is a 20+Minute version that took up a whole side! It was on the Live Album but it is a studio version with audience response dubbed in.
This version is better than The Temptations version. It has way more energy and the percussion and bass are better. Respect to The Temptations, but when I listen to this song, this is the one I blast.

I can tell they were a great concert band! I wish I could've seen them. The drummer is a beast! Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!!!
The album is live too. That was an excellent concert.
They're new to me but now I like them a lot!

Ok, I've added both of those to my list!
Great you're going to like them both I'm guessing
The song came out 1969 and it’s not live.
Really impressed on how fast you caught on that this was originally a Temptations song, keep it up. This is also the short version of this song by Rare Earth.
Thanks! Oh wow, I didn't know there was an extended version. Rare Earth is an excellent band!
Dude here is talented. For sho it takes raw talent and practice practice practice. Good reaction fam
Most definitely and thanks baby bruh! They did a nice job on this live version.
I saw these guys in concert in 73 in Spokane W. ZZ Top opened the show for them, that's how long ago it was. Damn I'm old!
I saw them open for Deep Purple in 1976!
Yeah, we're getting old. But what good fortune to have lived in that music era!

A lot more Rare Earth has been requested and will be coming soon!
Actually Rare Earth was on Motown’s Rare Earth label
This cover to me epitomizes what was happening in the late 60s with the confluence of R&B and rock&roll.
You make a good point, hence "Psychedelic Soul" and "Psychedelic Rock"!
You need to listen to the full uncut song which has some great solos of most if not all players. Also a little trivia.. Rare Earth was the only white band to ever be signed by MOTOWN Records.
LOVE THIS VERSION! LOVED IT IN HIGH SCHOOL! RARE EARTH WAS NO. 1 IN THE 70'S.
I can understand why. I like their sound a lot!
Good job with the closing statement. Well thought out.
Thanks Kristin, and thanks for watching the entire video!

No problem. I'll take care of those tracks in due time thanks for watching!

Saw your address in Massillon, Ohio so you had to play football back in the day if you're from there. Lots of great players from there.
I played for McKinley, 1981 State Chanps
This is not live. It is the lip-synched 45 version of Rare Earth's #4 hit from 1970.
