- Why did God give us bodies? As John Paul II wrote in his Theology of the Body, “The body, in fact, and only the body, is capable of making visible the invisible: the spiritual and the Divine.”
God gave us bodies to make visible His own invisible mystery. This is a Mega Mystery! And as Saint Paul directs us in Ephesians 5, “It refers to Christ and the Church.”

God answered my question! The constant itch on my back this entire week was “why not gnosticism? Why not body=bad, spirit=good?”
One lingering question is, why does God teach us to fast? To deny ourselves?
Wow, you are the first person who has explained this concept to me in a way I can actually understand. The passion and clarity in which you present is so inspiring and because of you, I can't wait to learn more. Thank you so much, Dr. West!
I’m so glad to hear this, Laura! Keep going. The mystery just gets deeper and deeper…
And Christ took a body to reveal God's life-giving love to us.
Every Person in the world need to watch this! Fantastic job!
Awesome! I am one of the certification students and direct an NFP program in North Carolina. I am so grateful for this. I’m going to share it far and wide!

Wow, Doctor West your message is precise, clear and Spiritual. Thanks for being a servant of God 🔥❤️🙏!
This is an answered prayer! Thank you Jesus you are so good and faithful. Being in a body is weird and confusing sometimes.
Although the bodies we have right now are fallen and are meant to be the instrument for the sanctification of our souls.
Thank you Chris. I don’t know why we forget these things. We are intended to be love materialized and that brings me peace 😊
I like the way you teach us the Theology of the body. God bless your mission. Thanks 😊
Love it. Keep em coming!
Fate through St John Paul 2 brings me here. Things I could not plan, that were planned for me. 🙏 Prayers made up and said, are true prays.

Thanks for this video, Christopher! It's another great intro to TOB that I can share.
What wonder and beauty, this makes me weep. God has been healing my heart of lies and misunderstandings about our bodies, about woman and who he is. Thank you Father, thank you Lord Yeshua for leading me to this video and in greater Union and marriage with you, as you purposed and intended, as it is your sovereign Will, beloved God Almighty, in the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit ❤️🔥🙏☦️⛲🕊️🦅🦁🍯🌹🤲
Great Job! I really appreciate your work. I am also student of rheology, fascinated by TOB. I hope I will join your lectures someday :) Greetings from Poland.

Theology of the Body is John Paul II's reception and elaboration of Paul VI's Dignitatis Humanae, both teachings on the sexual and reproductive ethics. Many American Catholics are greatly impoverished and handicapped in living out the faith by holding that these two Popes' teachings mainly consist in this and forget or neglect that they also taught social ethics especially social justice. Paul VI teachings on social justice in Populorum Progression is received and elaborated by John Paul II in Sollicitudo Rei Socialis. I dare the Theology of the Body Institute to teach beyond sexual ethics like Theology of the Body and also about social ethics like Sollicitudo Rei Socialis.
Thanks for the video, may I offer myself to interpret and translate what you said, I am from an hispanic county and I'd love to share the message.
That would be great if Chris allowed this, we need to get this message to the Spanish speaking world, good on ya sister.
Fr Brett Brannen # To Save a Thousand of Souls # Our Primary Vocation is Holiness Happiness is doing the will of God. Interestingly, that could also be the definition of holiness. The primary and universal vocation of every person in the world is to be holy-to become like Jesus Christ. Christ-likeness is the only success recognized by God
Wow... "testicles", "testify", "testimony" and "testament" are related 😂 Seriously though, this is so eye opening!
Hi Christopher West , greetings ...I am astounded by the level of knowledge you have .. blessings to you..
Only 1 of your thoughts confused me that devil fell due to envy towards humans (reason: the 1st would become last and last would become 1st) but I have heard that devil fell due to a thought of pride(thought: he want to become greater than God).
which 1 is correct..?
It could be argued that all intellectual sins were present in Lucifer's fall, but I was pulling directly from Wisdom 2:24, "But by the envy of the devil, death came into the world."
We were given bodies to debunk the religious folklore nonsense we get here ..amen
Kinda goes with the Era of living in the Divine Will of the great St Luisas writings
From the book "food for soul " by Peter kreeft page 10
God is the saint-maker. But we have to ask him, we have to want that. He gives that gift to whoever asks for it. It's of that gift that he says, "Seek and He you will find... [for] the one who seeks, finds" (Matt. 7:7-8). says, "Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness / for they will be satisfied" (Matt. 5:6).
Why does it happen only through love? Because as St. Augustine says, love is our gravity, love is what moves us, what motivates us to move: our love of the end that we move toward. For instance, if we see an ugly dog and a beautiful dog, we move away from the ugly dog, and we move toward the beautiful dog to pet it. Augustine defines evil as disordered love, and good as rightly ordered love: loving God with the love of adoration, our neighbors with charity, and the things of the world with moderation, to use them but not give our whole hearts to them. We are to use things and love persons, not use persons and love things. We are to adore God and use creatures, not adore creatures and try to use God.
That's rightly ordered love.
This all sounds very esoteric/gnostic to me...
Dr. West, I have a question. If man's testicles are to man the physical testimony of God's fatherly love, then why is this trait not exclusive to man but given to most if not all of male animals? Why is the male genitalia a common trait between all male mammals, when only man was created in God's image and likeness?
Thank you for your question! Christopher and his wife Wendy address more specific questions and give more detailed advice in their weekly podcast. Feel free to submit your question here: askchristopherwest.com/ask and check periodically to see if your question was addressed.
@@TheologyoftheBodyInstitute very well. Then I'll shall repost it there.
Paul should be in Rikers for crimes against humanity..he got off easy.
This concept gets confusing when you get married.
How so?
So is Heaven bodily pleasures? If so, is Hell bodily suffering?
At the resurrection of the dead (Last Judgment), yes.
If I have to hear one more time that my body is a dwelling place for God through my womb or femininity rather than me having the ability to testify because I lack testicles, I will lose it. Let's start giving women action in their bodies as participants in the kingdom rather than a vessel or object for a male figure of Jesus. (The Christ also manifests outside of the person of Jesus!) Men and women have differences physically but these do not create spiritual separation in experiencing and living for Christ.
A dwelling place for God himself is a great honor. One is not better than the other, just different roles. Men and women were not made the same but are loved the same.
4:53 why do we have tastebuds? Because being able to taste (and smell for that matter, you mentioned smell) is an evolutionary advantage over those who cannot taste or smell. Which results in those with taste or smell to live while those without slowly die off.
Well said. But this doesn´t contradict what is said in the video. Have a nice day!
Indeed. But the body is not merely biological. It is Theological.
@@TheologyoftheBodyInstitute Do you care to elaborate on that? I don't know what that means, in what way is our body theological?
The short answer is no good reason. Matter is by its nature subject to fallacy and decay, which by logical definition makes it intrinsically evil.
"Theology"
More like personal speculation.
