  • All of our sexual brokenness can be boiled down to one problem. . . As fallen creatures, we've forgotten how to truly pray. And marital intercourse is truly meant to be a profound, life-giving prayer.
Christopher West and Jason Clark discuss the real challenges of sexual intimacy in marriage and unfold practical tips for finding healing from woundedness and sanctifying the marital act.

Theology of the Body is deep stuff, but it is Truth. Real. Seamless. Changed my life, from the inside out. Unexpected, unending joy.

Pure gold. I thought this, but couldn’t articulate it. We are/were lacking in catechism across the world.

"The marital embrace makes both the man and the woman incredibly vulnerable. Incredibly vulnerable. The woman must open herself in the most vulnerable way. And when she's wounded there, in her heart, what she ends up doing is she opens her legs but closes her hurt. And if a woman is doing that over and over again in a marriage, every time they come together there's a rupture for her between body and soul. And there's a name for that rupture, it's death." 12:37
Andddd that's why sexual abuse is marriage hurts so much and is so traumatic. Deo gratias for the Catholic Church's theology on marriage (and for annulments, if the husband said his vows with the intention of abusing his so-called spouse.)

Thank you so much for this video. I've been praying to learn more about the sacredness of sex and I know the Lord led me here. We need this taught more frequently to combat the teachings of the world. Thank you a thousand times over.

This is the best video from you by far Dr. Christopher. Thank you for sharing and God bless you 😁.

Magnificent explanation that blesses sex within marriage as symbolic and substantive of the Consecration of Bread and Wine on the altar. Amen and amen. This treatise recognized that sex within marriage derives from Christ's sacrifice of his Divine Love for us. Marriage sanctified through its very own Sacrament and blessing through the Church is no less holy than the life of the Consecrated Religious in the Church.

Ok, good stuff, but can you more practically tackle how this is achieved? What specifically do we do to improve this that is broken in us?

I think prayer is the first step. Make yourself more vulnerable with God. Circumcise your heart.

Lovely and fascinating discussion.. but I was wondering if you have any videos directed towards converts whose spouse is a non-believer?
As a woman I very much related to this body-soul rupture that you spoke of, you called it death.. how to cope with that?

I was just searching his videos for that too! I'm a convert (post marriage), my husband is not Catholic and not interested in Christianity/Catholicism. I could really use advise on navigating TOB in an unyoked marriage. There are NO resources out there, no one talks about it. I imagine this is a common problem people face, and I don't know why it's never mentioned.

These comments are a year old, but I wonder how both of you are doing? I find myself converted post-marriage also, and am looking for resources for ladies in my situation.

It's difficult to image that either JPII or the Almighty Himself intended for us to judge our chastity in such a binary fashion, "The sexual embrace must always embody spiritual wholeness and openness to procreation, else it is hurtful, sinful and proscribed." Holiness is a lifelong aspiration to honor God in every word and act, an aspiration of which we as humans will necessarily fall short. That doesn't make every sub-holy word or act sinful.

They portray it as ever single sexaul encounter is supose to be this Woohoo experience (Mary appearing Fatima)? That's not real life. what about people working long hours, time restrains , money. Maybe you only have time in the bathroom for quickie before the kids start bangining on the door.

Is a Quickie ("sex act done hastily.) ok for a catholic couple to do? I mean do the clouds need to part and the shifting shafts sun light need to come streaming down , and the angels need to sing every time as you and your spouse have sex?

we’ll if you don’t have time I’m assuming, you’re giving into your selfish flesh in the moment.

    • @sitka49
      @sitka49 Місяць тому

@@Maverick-zy7yu so having a quickie giving in to being selfish?
With busy lives , and maybe, and short time of privacy is all you get?
Maybe you're just happy procreating , and to have the required amount of kids you want and than stop having sex?
Than you never have worry about giving into "selfish sex?"
I get a kick out of how they say that Catholic sex is so open and freeing , but yet after you're married.
" By the way we have all these other rules you got to follow too."
"And if your thinking of having a quickie better look it up in the manual to make sure we're not sinning?"
They certainly are concerned with how when, and with whom you're having an orgasm with and what kind of sex you're having.
What should the standard sexual encounter look in a catholic marriage ( or better yet what puritans of the church wished it looked like?)
30 seconds of missionary just once every 3rd Saturday of the month? Sad thing is its Probably Be more than most are getting. Lol 😆
Catholicism - The faith where nothing is allowed.

@@Maverick-zy7yu People have busy lives with kids , work, time restraints ( people are struggling more now than ever and weekends away with the 2 of you - or even a date-night isn't in the foreseeable future) or course you're giving into the flesh, how does one not? Whether the 2 of you sneak into the bathroom for a quickie - before the kids start banging on the door, or if you write on the calendar weeks ahead time you"ll think about sex and things you might like to try - That's fleshy! Otherwise what? Just completely sterile and clinical sex? And really every time you have sex it's supposed to be this Woohoo experience? but the fact is being a wife many times in a marriage she will obligate her husband ( marital debt from the bible?) with sex when she doesn't want to ( staring at ceiling counting the cobwebs and thinking "I should really clean that") - apparently that's ok according to scripture, but tell me how that's sacrificing? I call BS - this what happens when people are still looking for direction from a bunch of celibate old men regarding how, how often, whether, for what purpose, with whom and when to orgasm? That is sad, unnecessary and unproductive.
We always had really good sex in our marriage, and it got us through some really rough patches and lows in our marriage and one thing we had when money was tight and helped us reconnect intimately.
otherwise if that's the case I pity the person who turns to any church to address their sexual quandaries. Most Catholic people just have sex and get on with life. Really.
