Tim.2, 12, right?), but I'll give you an insight into my thoughts by now: As a writer and language teacher and bible group leader for women I am probably better in teaching and preaching biblical truths than many men or even some priests. There are many women who are excellent teachers. Because, as you've said, it doesn't depend on the gender/sex. I am not sure, but I can imagine that it is about leading within the church community. Me as a woman should let the man lead. I don't know what the theological reasons are why men are the leaders - maybe somebody can help me out here? - but I always had deep peace about it in my heart as long as leading me means loving me well (which includes knowing me and my needs by listening to me and observing me well and takes these things into consideration when deciding). St. Paul actually demands this kind of love from men while leading in Ephesians 5, 28-29.

Thank you Christopher. The procreative act is the most electrifying act in all of the universe. Prompted by the mutual love and longing of a man and a woman for each other, it brings into the world a new and distinctly different person who is utterly dependent on that man and woman for its physical and moral growth and development. None of us here now could ever be here without the sexual union of our parents. If we had family unions which were strong & resilient in love and service to each other and in devotion and thanks to Jesus, then there is no way our world could ever have dropped off the cliff into the insane immorality we are now confronted with. Prayer, penance and acts of good will to others is what we must deliver daily if we are to turn this horrible situation around.

It‘s nice to think about but some marital pairings aren‘t conducive to this plan. Some people won‘t and can‘t reveal their souls even during marital sex.
I can see why this is more motivating for males. Also, I can see how husband's "give" of themselves in a marriage, they don't bother the wife about sex.
I think it’s because at the end he explains that the marriage of man and woman is a metaphorical representation of the process of communion. Communion is the transmuted flesh of Christ, and by consuming it you symbolically incorporate him into your self. Also teenagers today are very much at risk from sexually predatory adults who attempt to groom them into unhealthy behaviour.
@@Grokford I’m open to debate. Why not? I’m coming at this as an atheist trying to understand Christianity on their grounds. Just as a heads up, I meant “man and woman” in a martial sense, in case that changes your POV. The word “communion” means “sharing”. That’s sort of the idea of marriage, right? You become “one flesh” with another person and your assets are shared with them. There is an implicit understanding that - unless where specific boundaries are set - that what belongs to one spouse belongs to the other. Christ’s relationship with the Church is more broadly described as a marriage. Christ is the groom - the patriarchal head - and the congregation is his bride, who he leads. Correspondingly, Christ shares his food, drink, and room with his students. He asks them to share with one another (as spouses, as friends, as disciples…) in order to remember him. Any act of sharing (communion) can be used as an opportunity to remember Him. The actual literal sacrament itself it a metaphorical recreation of Christ’s last dinner with his disciples before death. Obviously there’s more stuff going on in the act of communion, but that’s why I said marriage is a *metaphor for communion* rather than *communion is a metaphor for marriage.* The marriage is one of several ways one can share with another person, and therefore exponential opportunities to remember Christ and his acts of sharing (and sacrifice). It’s a broader message about not coveting material objects. Jesus tells the rich young man to give away his stuff, but he never said *to whom.* He could have given it to his family or friends, or people that draw his particular pity and sympathies. He doesn’t have to give it up all at once - would Christ really have objected if the young man followed him and doled out his belongings gradually as he travelled? This isn’t explicit, so maybe I’m wrong, but I think the idea is less to do with the specifics of how this kid shares so much as *the fact he is willing to do it.* I get if you this call this post a cop-out because I said “man and woman” and then talked about marriage. I guess if I can’t shift the goalpost and have to answer that… I think the metaphor still holds up. Not as well as the marriage argument, but you could argue that: The multitudes of God are expressed through His appearance on both sides of a binary. Men *and* women are made in God’s image, and yet they are clearly opposite sides of a binary. Men cannot be men and be women, but God is somehow present in both. It sort of parallels the Trinity and how God is Jesus and the Holy Spirit but is also not. Communion is, as a sacrament and not an act of sharing more broadly, a mystery. At least, to the Catholics it is. The communion sacrament features the transubstantiation of bread and wine, miraculously, into Christ’s flesh and blood. By consuming it, Christ is physically incorporated into the body of the penitent and made into “one flesh”. The fat and muscle on both our physical bodies is made up of things we eat, and so with the rules of transubstantiation, we end up with the incorporation of Jesus inside ourselves. All this “one flesh” stuff parallels the trinity (Jesus is God but He isn’t the Father and the Father isn’t the Holy Spirit but…). It parallels the act of communion (the bread is Jesus but it’s also part of us). This answer is definitely a lot flimsier than my point about marriage, but whatever. Worst that will happen is that you’ll disagree. Which, as ling as you allude to scripture and theologians, I am completely down for.
@@wormwoodcocktail I agree that marriage and having a meal together both involve sharing, but personally I find that to be a thin basis of comparison. My larger issue is that when people(usually Christians) talk about marriage as a "metaphor" or a "symbol" it's usually their premise for justifying restricting marriage to their particular vision of it. This is most often paired with gender essentialism too which I have to object to. I don't know how to respond to your thoughts on the rich man, I don't have any basis to argue one way or another, I really don't have a problem with questioning or speculating my primary concern is when personal speculation is transformed into unbreakable rules.
Very few people believe in the devil these days, which suits the devil very well. He is always helping to circulate the news of his own death. The essence of God is existence, and He defines Himself as: 'I am Who am.' The essence of the devil is the lie, and he defines himself as: 'I am who am not.' Satan has very little trouble with those who do not believe in him: they are already on his side. Bishop fulton sheen
The theology of the body, along with the theology of the priesthood, have been St. Pope John Paul II’s obsessive concerns and pet theological projects, to the point that he highly idealized these and put both in a pedestal during his papacy. This hyper-spiritualization of the two (sexuality and priesthood) led him to have a blind spot in the emerging episcopal and clergy homosexual predation sex abuse scandal that erupted during his reign. He promoted Theodore McCarrick five times: auxiliary bishop of New York, bishop of Metuchen, archbishop of Newark, archbishop of Washington DC, and cardinal. JPII had a preferential relationship with the Legionaries of Christ founder, Maciel Degollado, who was a serial bisexual predator, rapist, and who sired children, but whom he proudly presented as “a model of heroic priesthood.” He should never have been hastily canonized.

As a note taker, I am confused at what exactly the three key words were that you said were a complete and total vision of what it means to be human. You give great explanation for each point but what were each of the words?
I’m trying to learn here I have a lot of questions and I’m really confused because all what I’ve been taught as a kid is different and what your saying is kind of true 🤧
Physical union with the divine, realising who you are, it all sounds a little esoteric to me...Male-female unification is something divine in the Eastern religions
One word: crucifixon. Even if we had a rocket we couldn't just shoot ourselves to the former blessed state with any abundance of fuel. I guess JP2 knew that, but people of today don't. Was this theology shadow banned untill people would be able to completely mis-understand it?

This is barely even speculation it's practically just wild projection. Citing two or three verses out of context and making stuff up the rest of the time isn't theology, it's wish fulfillment.
Please do not claim sexuality is fine. That leans to lust. The proper term is procreation, not sex. 1 John 3 tells us to be pure. 2 Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed* we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure. Be in the world but not of it. Chastity should be spoken, more specifically in marriages. That is in the 4:12 church teachings, conjugal Chastity. Paul's letter to Ephesians explains to a husband how to be to his wife. For the husband is head of his wife just as Christ is head of the church, he himself the savior of the body. As the church is subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word, Christ loves us so much He doesn't approach us and push himself on us. We must approach him. This is how all men are supposed to be to their wives, always to allow her to approach him. Two things are present then, you have allowed the Holy Spirit to act and enter your wife's heart bringing you into union with her, or she is ovulating and ready to create life. If men were blind it would serve us better. For most serve their lust and not God. the book of Tobit also pointed this out. Be blessed always ! Pray you will have the strength to approach the son of man.

This isn’t explicit, so maybe I’m wrong, but I think the idea is less to do with the specifics of how this kid shares so much as *the fact he is willing to do it.*
I get if you this call this post a cop-out because I said “man and woman” and then talked about marriage. I guess if I can’t shift the goalpost and have to answer that… I think the metaphor still holds up. Not as well as the marriage argument, but you could argue that:
The multitudes of God are expressed through His appearance on both sides of a binary.

I agree that marriage and having a meal together both involve sharing, but personally I find that to be a thin basis of comparison.

Awesome
Is this like Max Headroom?
It isn't about low self esteem issues. It's about rage, anger, disdain and frustration.

This video goes to my prayer group...

What’s his problem?
Is he confused? Or are you scared?
Christopher, thank you for your work in sharing TOB. What are your thoughts on women Eucharistic Ministers and lectors? I am one, and after listening to TOB, I’m starting to get uncomfortable about it.
Maria - I am interested in why you starting to feel uncomfortable with your most important roles in our Catholic faith because of TOB. Could you please explain so I could understand? Thank you!
Hi Christopher! This is a great intro! I'm enjoying the conference talks currently. Wendy and you were awesome together.
Thanks a million for your video. A lot of guidance on this topic about our bodies and how to understand and why to respect man-woman union in holy marriage and its profound and lovely meaning. 🙏
As a note taker, I am confused at what exactly the three key words were that you said were a complete and total vision of what it means to be human. You give great explanation for each point but what were each of the words?
3:47 *”Man and woman naked* without *shame.”* I think.
I’m been battling depression for years… I want out of this body.
I’m trying to learn here I have a lot of questions and I’m really confused because all what I’ve been taught as a kid is different and what your saying is kind of true 🤧
The body? A Sacrament?
I had no idea we walk around as holy elements of a sacrament that points to The Eucharist of all things...
Consider going deeper if you found this insightful! We'd recommend www.tobforfree.com/
Is this Jens office?
Apple of Sin.
It's not about love. It's just the opposite.
Do you offer this teaching online?
Hi Gerard. Christopher has a patron community that offers online study series and other resources. TOBPatron.com. You can also get a lot of formation reading his blog posts on tobinstitute.org and some of the older videos on this channel. It's all awesome.
We have a free online conference coming up: www.tobvirtualconference.com ; plus, the TOB Institute will be offering our TOB level 1 course online at the end of May. You can learn more here: corproject.com.securechkout.com/tob1onlinemay2020
Read the Upanishads
This is barely even speculation it's practically just wild projection.
Citing two or three verses out of context and making stuff up the rest of the time isn't theology, it's wish fulfillment.
Please do not claim sexuality is fine.
That leans to lust.
The proper term is procreation, not sex.
1 John 3 tells us to be pure.
2
Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed* we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
3
Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.
Be in the world but not of it. Chastity should be spoken, more specifically in marriages. That is in the 4:12 church teachings, conjugal Chastity. Paul's letter to Ephesians explains to a husband how to be to his wife.
For the husband is head of his wife
just as Christ is head of the church,
he himself the savior of the body.
As the church is subordinate to Christ,
so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives,
even as Christ loved the church
and handed himself over for her to sanctify her,
cleansing her by the bath of water with the word,
Christ loves us so much He doesn't approach us and push himself on us.
That is messed up. Super idealism
