Edit: yes, more than a year later people are still correcting me that she is missing a hand not an arm

My sister is a recently retired occupational therapist, mostly hands. She told me when they made hands for children that looked more human, flesh colored, like the one you show, other kids found it "creepy", were afraid. But when they had hands that were more mechanical, brightly colored plastics, etc, suddenly they are super heroes! The kids in their class gathered around, "Oh, COOL!" And the kids were curious how it worked, etc. Interesting.
Let me ask you something.witch looks better,an black eyepatch or a flesh colored eyepatch with an eye painted on it.
@@pipebombpete.6861 If you are 10 years old, a black eyepatch with a scull and crossbones painted on it... like one of my kids did when he had an eye injury.

As a mechanical engineer this really makes me sad. I don’t see how that design would ever make it past a prototype... did they not consult any amputees ?!
It definitely looks like a one-size-fits-all attempt at a solution. I wonder how much that thing cost.
Agree...I have seem much better... not a good company
Yeah it does seem like an temprory lower cost option.
As she said in the video they werent sure how she was going to deal with the amputation. Ghost limbs cause a real problem for many amputees. Temporsry prostetics is one way to deal with it.
That said this video is 2 years old and quite a bit has rolled out in even just the last 2 years.
To equal out the length I would have switched from the post and socket thing they have going on there to a twist and lock cup that goes right over the stump at least. You're definitely right, this is a crude co-opting of the standard hook design into a hand by someone who doesn't have the skills to design or fabricate either. They probably limited themselves to using her current arm socket rather than making a whole new one from the ground up as well.
Agreed. This looks like a very 1955 solution. Quite crude. I can only hope it was cheap.
I love how she still claps her hands, muscle memory at work
Undead ChibiCat🤣 that’s y I’m laughing
@@Ladytrigga2011 ikr its so funny and cute lmao
I know I love it
I mean, it still works when you clap a hand and stump combo 😆
Undead ChibiCat I said the same thing lol
That prosthetic looks complicated and not very.... handy.
I get that pun
I bet it took you awhile to finger that out...😊
I feel like this is a joke but I can't quite put my finger on it.
@@georgeporteous8201 >>> At least Christy has it figured out, hands down...😝
......
I barely have fingers on either hand and I've done just fine my entire life. Stick with the stump if that's what works best.
I was part of an art club. There was a teenage girl whom hands could be also described as "barely have fingers". I never saw her using any kind of prostetics or "tool" or anything other than the same drawing material than anyone else used. And she was a damn good drawer for her age.
I admit that impressed me.
My one friend is missing the point finger on his left (I think) hand and he does great without it. He even does band and is considered a god amongst the band. People can do anything.
You ever lube up the nub for a night of “pleasure”?
@@bobiboulon my sister has a portion of her thumb on her dominant hand and thats about it and that chick can still type faster then me and since they removed some of the meat on her dominant hand palm to increase the side of the indention where the thumb is her hand writing is better then mine. There is a pro Street fighter gamer without hands, he is a pro playing with his goddamn MOUTH! Now that is bloody impressive
It's depressing that the prosthetic is so poor in its appearance and functionality... We like to think we're so advanced these days but it seems like we have a very long way to go with this...
there are better prosthesis than this.
there are bionic arm+ hand that are more functional than this ...
the fun/strange side with bionic prosthesis is that while they do not look natural/real , they can look more cool than this kind of false hand.
Yeah definitely!!!
were so advanced that we even have them
im sure theyll have relatively inexpensive, easily controlled fully articulate hands arms and legs within 20 years. neuralink probably going to help a lot with that.
Everything is about money. How many people are amputee and how many of them are willing to pay for a prosthetic ? And how much are they willing to pay ? After you answer those question you realise that the market is very small. Because the market is small, the prices are high and the technology isn't that advanced.

I have to tell this, You are damn Awesome and Beautiful as compared to every good looking girl ; boy ; man or woman out there, who doesnt have any health problems but, still crib about their daily lives chores..... However, on the other hand, you are so Happy, Jovial, Strong, Doesn't complain ; Take every tough situation with fun ; Never leave that beautiful smile on your beautiful face and overall, You are a Wonderful Girl in all sense..... :):)
By just seeing you say and do something, makes each and every one of us, forget everything and anything and just wants to keep seeing you, because you have something special in you, I think, its definitely, you carry an Aura which is tremendously mesmerizing to all of us and please keep it up and never ever stop, because it makes all of us very happy seeing you with that beautiful smile :)
You are definitely an Inspiration to each and every one of us and I need to say, if I ever find a girl like you, I will immediately propose her to be with her for a lifetime without a second thought and thats a different thing, is she has to say Yes or No but, still I will not miss the chance though ;)
Oh yes, I'll love to support your channel as well :)
Take care..... God Bless you dearly.... And loads of love to you and I wish you a Very Good Day ahead dear friend Kristie :)

Great video, and your personality for someone who lost a hand.... wow.
When I see how the medical field evolves so fast.... I have to say I'm quite disappointed right here.
Im very new to this topic but as far as i know there are some good solutions. Some very funktional, like they have sensitivety and some very affordable like the hero arm from open bionics.
this is far from state-of-the-art robotic arms controlled by your brain, it's pretty much only in labs right now.
there are also very good prostetic arms from vincent systems in germany
At the very least they could’ve made it your skin color instead of mannequin tan. Frankly, the shoulder move required to operate the hand makes it seem like you have a twitch. I would so not wear that either.
As a prosthetic technician.... This prosthetic is bad work I get why you wouldnt wear it. I'm so sorry girl. The limb descrepency ... Why a pin and a boa? I get cosmetically youd want a hand but functionally? A hook is SO much better. I think youre a wrist disarticulation but even if youre transradial you should have a triceps pad.
I support you not using a device, hands are hard to replace, but know there are different options. Love your attitude and jokes tho great vid and I wish you the best!!
I don't know anything about that shit but I am a girl so I see why she doesn't like it one it's not her hand skin tone two whatever you said I git some of what u said but I agree and I'll agree to somebody who is a prosthetic technician an that's ur job so I agree and I'm glad she's not upset about that.. it wouldn't affect me much Aslong as it isn't my right hand cuz I'm right handed... but u gotta love her attitude! Cynjen W as a prosthetic technician, how do you feel watching so many amputees using their stumps, or other body parts in favour of prosthetics?
@@happyhorse1028
I am not a prosthetic technician but if a prostetic doesnt help or is annoying why wear it? It is supposed to make a positive impact. Sure with prostetics you first need to get the hang of it, so you should give it some time before you get rid of it.
I get that people who do manual labour take pride in the usage of their products, but they should be happy that she can live her daily life without having to worry to much about a prosthetic, as they can cause bruises and other uncanny side effects.
walking the moon are you an amputee yourself?
@@happyhorse1028 prosthetics arent for everyone. Without a leg device or with a bad leg device a person can develop spinal issues. But hands? They are hard to replace. They arent for every one and its a personal choice.

I can understand completely. My father was an amputee (left arm from above the elbow). He was fitted for a prosthetic, but he just felt more himself without it. It made no difference to me, I grew up with a dad with one arm. It never stopped him doing anything. In fact I truly believed as a young child that men naturally lost one arm, weird right. He was a hero, bless him. Good luck with your new hand!
If I had a prosthetic hand or arm I would just be running around like “I AM IRON MAN!”
Bro, same. Or I would try to make my own with a BB gun on the end.
until you become an amputee, you can't say what you would do. As cool as you think it may be, it's NOT!
@@allenb1926 My buddy Peg would tell you to STFU and crawl into what ever depressed hovel you came from. He loves being an amputee, says it makes his life interesting and his jokes funnier. Still rides motocross and motorcycles too, I've seen him ride home side saddle cause a truck ran over his leg when it fell off. Dont assume cause you or someone you know struggled with losing a limb that everyone struggles losing a limb, Johnny is Pegs real name (but he goes by Peg). If you're missing a limb I'm sorry but I really think you should.... get over it :/ like I live near a military base, hundreds of farms and dozens of race tracks for anything motorized. I know as many amputees as I do whole bodied people. They're all cool, they all still participate in sports and physical activities all over the place. Just.... calm down lol

This is an old prosthesis. What you're thinking actually does in some ways actually exist (there are even ones that can be linked to the brain!). It's just extremely expensive and people still seem to prefer their stumps. I read this in actual clinical research papers btw.
I agree this is just not impressive looking at all though. Such a static thing, it misses quite a bit of the dynamic structure of a normal hand.
I‘ve seen a motorized hand that worked with the slightest muscle-movements of the stump at a trade fair for orthopedic technology. It was amazing! They are indeed expensive but I’m amazed at one can be done for people who lose extremities nowadays

Im 4 years in to a life change but my right hand . Thank you for haveing the courage to speak about this . 6month after we had our first child and both were a full on experience .
Since the arm piece was so big I thought it was a myoelectric arm, where you use the signals in your arm muscles to open and close the hand. So I was chocked to see you needed a shoulder piece to be able to do that. I have only seen that in amputees of the humerus. Also, I don't know how it is in the states, but we in Scandinavia can order cosmetic hands from France, they hand paint their cosmetic hands and are really individual made and they are all a piece of art. Yes they are more expensive, but for the patients quality of life it's so much worth it. I understand why you don't want to wear that
Also we should be more advanced in the prosthetic department.
There are more advanced prosthetics but they are expensive. Insurance often doesn't cover them.
Apparently we are, but only for the rich elite.

exactly! You can also make a realistic glove for it if it looks too creepy. But these are a bit expensive tho
All I know is that I wouldn't be able to resist making hand jokes or pranking people to make the best out of my handicap
Cut your hand off then bro
Aha, the comment I was looking for so I could reply!
Some lady at work got ahold of a creepy clear plastic hand with visible bones inside. It was from some osteo pharmaceutical company. She quit one day and I nabbed it. MINE! And it was a right hand too. Convenient.
Sorry I can't find an actual pic of what I'm describing. Basically it looked like an X-ray come to life. It's made of hard clear plastic with regular looking bones inside (plastic I'm sure). It's close to this.

So I'm wearing this long-sleeved shirt and I started fooling around with using a rubber band to keep the sleeve closed. I then slipped the fake hand into my sleeve to see how it looked. It was a bit longer like Kristie's left hand, but if I angled myself a bit I could hide the difference. It was a bit smaller than my normal hand too, but kinda close.
Just as I was getting the hang of it, a big shot manager for one of the companies came through for a visit. I'd seen him before from a distance but we never actually met.
Tee hee.
Someone introduced me to him and I shook hands with him real quick. Managers are used to shaking hands all day. I made him shake hands with my super creepy clear plastic hand with bones inside.
He made a slightly weird face, because it obviously didn't feel like a real hand. He glanced down for a moment and then looked away. He was afraid to say anything because he thought it was a prosthetic or something.
I acted as natural as could be and welcomed him to the office, stuff like that. He never said a word.
This is a great grinchy trick for Halloween or something. People don't expect that, especially if I'm wearing baggy pants with big pockets and can hide that hand in my pocket until the last second. Nobody wants to be the guy who notices it, because then they look stupid. It's not PC to notice.
Strong girl love her attitude. I can see her being something big with her dance career or whatever else she chooses to do.💪👌🏿👌🏿
This video brought so much memories about my grandfather! 30 years ago
mechanism was almost the same. He used his prosthetic most solely for
driving, his car had manual transmission.
You need electronic one that moves every finger and taps into your nerves I've seen beautifully done prosthetics that look so real and that's so much functionality it's ridiculous because it is just like the real thing
WHERE ??
@@tomcolpart7260 One of the providers of these kind of prothesises are so called Hero Arms there is a documentary on it on youtube just look up 'Hero Arm' Edit:I relooked it company is called 'Open bionics'
Wayne Miller that shit costs so much
The neighbor who I worked with fishing in the Ohio river lost his hand at 7-8 years old in the 1920's. He was 75 in 1996. He would bait multi-hook fishing lines with one hand and his stump. He'd work his boat while putting out hooks in a river with one hand and his stub. He worked in law enforcement, hunting, being a mechanic on his (manual) jeep, with one hand. He would lace-up 11" boots and his WW1 style snake protectors, with long laces and multiple boot hook eyelets with one hand. I still lace up my boots the same way (one hand) because my dad worked the river with him at 14-16 before I was born and taught me. He lived 90 years with one hand, no prosthetic. Do the same. He was right-handed and lost his left with a dynamite blasting cap. If you want to know his lacing technique and get some high boots to impress your friends and strangers I'll describe his lace technique.
Dear Kristie! You are wonderful! I am happy to see your happiness on your face! God bless you!
So seems like you don't really need the prosthetic. It does look a bit cumbersome. I think the stump is more natural. looking and moving Great attitude and you are smart young and pretty... You're doing great. Thanks for sharing
Whoever made that gets a major fail. On so many levels.
I did not make this one, but I'm in the field and it's honestly difficult to
1. Match the length; her stump is quite long on its own and it looks like a wrist disarticulation so they didn't have many choices there.
2. Weight; Yup, it's functional hand. It will be heavy no matter what. The lighter one will be cosmetics one.
3. Suspension; I agreed with you. It's wayyy too big!
4. Cable; I don't know why the cable ends up like that. Maybe they used to put housing for the cable before? I don't know.
i love your energy, keep going!!!!
Handy Hand! My son has a prosthetic foot, hes about to turn 4. He took to it so quick it was amazing. Your beautiful and have a great mindset.
It's customizable and made to look exactly like your hand. They take measurements and everything
*takes out hand
Looks like a regular prosthetic hand or manikin hand *thicc*
Me: umm something doesn't add up:/
Edit: thank you for the like and love your videos
2718aj buddy, i believe “manikin” is spelt mannequin. If it’s spelt differently for you then okay then
Planking Hi buddy I believe a manikin is used for medicine/doctors and artists to see the anatomy of the human body, and mannequin is used to show off clothes at a store. Either way both are used to simulate the human body. If that's not the case for you then okay then.
@@2718aj Lol
2718aj yea... no you just can’t spell mannequin
Quick google search: manikin checks out
