Mind-Controlled Bionic Arm w/iPhone App | How My Prosthetic Arm Works

  • Here are some of the prosthetic arm functions and gestures. I am using the Ossur Corp Touch Bionics iLimb Ultra and the arm was built by hanger clinic. Having a bionic arm takes a little getting used to because I've never had a prosthesis before but it is SWEET!

      Does it though?
I get a different feeling.. just a feeling..
but.. gotta be IN IT TO WIN IT!.
People at this stage are doing the F(**(**ng HARD WORK for people to come in the future.. and I hope yer man is FIRST in the Queue for New trials and upgrades....
I am made up that he has continued with this for so many years... it must be tempting to just F**K it off and go back to what he has used for his entire life successfully,
This is a strange kind of bravery..
very awkward and taxing work that I doubt many people would sympathise with.

My great-great-uncle, Leo Beaudoin, lost a leg on the first assault at Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. When he got back to the States he decided to put his engineering education to use and became a certified prosthesis to develop more comfortable prosthetic. He also worked on the team that started the process and engineering of robotic prosthetic. I bet my great-great-uncle would have loved to see this.

Chris - exercise for the upper body - how do you manage; if I could be so bold as you are in great shape by the look of your shoulders. I've lost 50% of them, but as a former gym junkie, I miss the ability to do upper body work. I know that I need to lose over 60kg due to pregabalin (600mg per day) weight gain. Being a former personal trainer, I know that it takes muscle mass to allow for metabolic function to work at its peak. Being 47, I have the additional challenge of lowered testosterone for muscle building. Anyway, I would love to correspond about being in the unique 'club' off the forum if possible.

I would be cool, if you can map your different grips to a smartwatch, attached or build in your prosthetic. Does it make sense?

Hey Chris my left arm has all 5 of the brachial plexus nerves severed from when the humerus bone broke & sliced them (motorcycle accident driving home from the fire station). I've had incredible chronic pain since & my shoulder/arm & hand are permanently paralyzed. Any recommendations on where in Chicago I can go to get one of these arms? Lmk please. Thanks

Ok first of I am not being disrespectful or minimizing your situation when saying this, I totally understand having a fully functional limb is preferable. But dude, how badass is this!!! If I lost a limb I'd totally hope I could get something like this. You are totally paving the way when in the future people might elect to have a prosthetic versus organic because of the increased functionality. And that arm is totally badass and the fact that you can tweak it through an app on your phone is blowing my mind. Also I wouldn't be ashamed of this prosthetic or the looks, you look awesome, show it off my man, you look cool!

You almost lost me at limb differences......a lost limb. I lost arm. There is nothing insensitive and softening language won't bring an arm back, technology will.

I feel like this kind of tech is gonna take another 50 years before we develop something that’s actually practical. At the very least 20 years....but I’m glad someone started the research and experiments. Maybe 2 or 3 generations down the line, they can really benefit from this research.

I would love this for my daughter. She was born with one hand. We have tried a number of times to no avail. The cost is out of reach for regular working folks. Healthcare plan denies because of pre existing condition. Yeah , she was born this way.

Wow. Man there only about 10 years away from a flesh colored prosthetic that's surgically attached that draws power from the brain itself. Fascinating.

I am really thankful to you for your work for people who don't have limbs.
Actually, my father lost his hand from shoulder in a fatal accident last year. I just want to ask you that is this possible for my father to have bionic arm from shoulder?
    Please help me.
    Thank you

About cracking an egg: its really easy to do one handed. One just holds one half of the egg with the thumb and the other half with the pinky, ring and middle finger. Even tho i am not disabled I am doing it this way since I was 10. Its as quick and every egg cracking feels like being a Master chef.
