I am amazed by Brother Day. He is such a textured and believable person, so rich in contradictions, flexible yet spiteful, capable of surprising with his depth and dismaying with his reactions. Pretending to have such an effective vision and then killing his political foe, yet genuinely feeling for the fellow pilgrim on the Spiral. Seeing his predecessor murder two diplomatic missions and glass two half planets yet grow up being just as willing to execute a thousand and a half on a whim. He repudiates his ‘brother’ Cleon XIIV, then when this one starts speaking of him in fatherly tones, he goes on to avenge him and his legacy by stressing his role as a father, and later he chooses to protect his putative ‘son’ only to see him be executed by an android. I thought they were setting Cleon XIIV to be the arch-villain, fuelled by self-hatred at his terroristically imposed ‘differences’, so this was a twist I did not anticipate. Finally, later on, when Brother Day starts destroying Cleon I’s transparent coffin I assume it’s to corrupt any DNA it may contain and therefore prevent any fresh DNA from being taken from it… if all of the existing clones are imperfect and the original corpse is corrupted, then there’s no point “decanting a new version of him”.

They found that all the original DNA had already been corrupted long ago, and they were all imperfect clones. So his thought was, whelp...why bother with the whole act thing now.

its just rage i think. Cleon I. coming up with the genetic dynasty completely predetermined his life, it directly led to the current mess of a situation, and then it turns out that Dawn was killed because of not living up to a standard, when none of them, including the original, do. (also because fuck Dusk)
he smirks, because he realizes the cruel irony, and then breaks down screaming in rage

I wish they’d just made an original series focusing entirely on these emperors. You could still involve psychohistory by having a Seldon-type figure deliver his warnings in the pilot and keep their reactions the same. But focus the entire series on them, don’t call it Foundation, don’t base it on Trantor, don’t name the psychohistorian Seldon or the robot Demerzel, and above all, don’t waste half of each episode sitting on Terminus watching the grass grow. In short, have confidence in your very intriguing original idea, and don’t pretend to be making a half-assed adaptation of Foundation when anyone who knows anything about the source material can clearly see you’re doing no such thing.

Laura Birn is the best performance. She is perfect at depicting a robot that has mastered the nuances of human behaviour, yet retains her artificial nature. But on an emotional level she captures all of the pathos from the viewer, as her suffering, her maternal instinct, and her sociopathy blend seamlessly to present a tragic figure who struggles with her circumstances in normal ways

i think the previous clones who were exactly like the first cleon weren't soul-less or anything like that. it's just that they're all EXACTLY like the first cleon in all respects. basically, all the perfect clones were just a different individual from the current brother day and brother dawn. it's more a matter of being an individual, and that's what the first cleon DID NOT WANT because he wanted to be immortal. the latest brother day is a different individual as it was confirmed in the last episode that his own dna was an altered version of the original. since he isn't like OG cleon, he didn't think of brother day as just another clone but his actual son, and brother day also wasn't like the exact copies and that's why he was actually a lot more like brother day. the alterations weren't accidental. the faction who wanted to destabilize the empire probably wanted the newer clones to think very differently, and it clearly worked. it's not really a matter of being human or not. the OG cleon just happened to be more of an evil human and the latest cleon just a somewhat different kind of evil human.

Lee Pace gave such depth to Brother Day. Watching him perform really makes me feel his character's emotions and struggles. And the episode where he walks the Spiral was maybe the best. Terrence Mann was also outstanding in this scene. However, it would have been a treat to see Lee playing Brother Dusk as well (with the right make-up it would have been possible). I think that would have secured him an Emmy Award. Anyway, I am curious to see more of Terrence's interpretation in the next season as he will probably develop current Brother Day into the new Brother Dusk. The current Brother Day is so complex with so many nuances in his personality, he feels conflicted. I am surprised he didn't have any vision in that cave.
The Terminus storyline was really boring and I think the directors wasted too much time of the movie focusing on the everyday life on Terminus. Jarred Harris did a great job, but most of the other actors didn't really convey any authentic feeling. The love story between Salvor and Hugo didn't impress me at all. I think it was because there was no chemistry between the actors and Leah Harvey portrayed a Salvor who has no essence of a woman. Too much on the masculine side that her character loses charisma. I would be interested to see more of her feminine side in the next season and an evolution to her character, because we assume that changing the planet, giving up the love of your life and leaving your family behind must make a significant change inside of a human. But honestly, it is hard for me to understand how and why anyone would leave their loved ones behind, just to find themselves stranded alone on an unknown planet more than 100 years later... Apart from that, too much lingering on the vault, energy field and on the empty scenery of Terminus that it gets boring. The Cleon storyline was the best part.

And wanting anything that would involve a second murder would also be beyond her abilities, utterly alien to her nature.
Now she might have been willing to kill Dawn if she had indeed concluded that a clone had no soul after all. That might be interesting. But it’s too late to entertain that possibility, because if the First Law applied to her, no force in the universe could have compelled her to kill Halima.

This is such a huge departure from the novels. In them, the problem was that Seldon discovered that it was already too late to the save the Empire. It didn't matter what the emperors did, the bureaucracy, or even R. Daneel Olivaw. There was *nothing* to be done by that point. This is why Seldon's Plan was to do what was necessary to cut the predicted 30,000 year dark ages down to just 1,000. Seldon and Cleon even spoke about democracy, which Seldon supported in principle but acknowledged would be impossible on such a huge scale. well, empires are more of something with an expiration date. i don't think it's impossible per se, but that it just has to have a compelling logic as to how an empire can come about in such a scale, and in the show at least, it's got to do with having monopoly on space travel technology, and to me at least, that sounds like a crazy powerful warfare advantage. so it's not like the galactic empire's existence is a massive plot hole or anything. also, in the show, the way that anti-technology sentiment can become the government itself is sort of explained by how isolating societies breeds the worst out of people. heck, on the internet alone, people can't even agree on what's fact or fake. imagine how societies must disagree on the scale of the milky way galaxy. this lack of unity in a galactic scale i think is what really allowed the empire to exist. divide and conquer.

Gaal and Salvor on Sinnax will they return to Terminus?
Will the empire turn against Terminus! Will the daytime brother go to Terminus and discover the Sanctuary?
Will Dermerzel continue to serve The Empire or the betrayal?
    Answer in Season 2

    • @aperson22222
      @aperson22222 2 роки тому +2

In the source material the Empire attacks the Foundation two hundred years after Seldon’s trial. By that point it is badly reduced in size and most of the worlds in the periphery are surprised it still exists, having assumed it had been lost to the mists of time. Foundation tech is far superior to imperial, but the imperial military is so massive that the outnumbered Foundation forces keep falling back before it. They’re saved only because by that time the Empire has degenerated to the point where emperors-who are not clones-live in constant fear of being overthrown, and so will have a deep distrust of any military commander who seems to be on the verge of winning enough glory to convert to political capital. Thus, the imperial commander is recalled to Trantor and executed on trumped-up charges of treason before he can complete the conquest, and the Foundation survives. When next we see Trantor, it’s a ruin; the capital was sacked by some nobody warlord and the Empire has fallen.
Of course, this show holds its own source material in so little regard that using it to predict what happens next will leave you looking as out of touch as Seldon’s hologram congratulating the people of Terminus on coming through their civil war while the Mule’s fleet bombards them from orbit.

Its possible the shield detects there DNA so they can touch themselves? The clones being clones... let them touch eachother?

Yeah, i asked myself why the nanites didn't heal Dawn. But i remembered that they removed them. But also strange that the Dawn they were transfered to didn't heal either.

The trouble is that Lee Pace is always Lee Pace. I've seen him on other pictures and it's Lee Pace. Great actor? Perhaps in about 30 years when he get's more experiance.
