Anthony Hopkins voice is soo iconic!! Its so memorising. How can someone be this impactful as a character in a scene and you cant even see them? He is playing 2 people and does it with excellence. They made the right choice doing this. We were blessed with his art in Silence of the Lambs and this iconic moment.

Back in school, oh so many years ago, the teachers taught that negative space, void, absence, whatever you'd choose to call it, is just as important as what is added to the canvas. Here it is silence and the talking is what's added, and that is minimized. The combination is powerful.

Such an underrated movie. Anthony Hopkins is memorable even if he is reading the phonebook, but I think this was one of the first movies when people saw Brad Pitt and said "maybe the pretty boy can act"

Brilliant acting from both actors. Mentioned here is the range of Pitt's delivery between curious, pleasant and menacing, and all done in exquisite subtlety. The same subtlety is masterfully demonstrated by Hopkin's acting. He is in shock, fear, dismay yet manages to maintain some sort of courtesy.
Pitt is extremely underrated as an actor due to his looks. Someone said it better, but was along the lines of 'a great character actor trapped in the body of a leading role looks'

An average story held together by actors who are at either ends of their peaks (Pitt emerging still, and Hopkins going through a brief decline). It's fine, but anyone that thinks this is the best scene of all time clearly doesn't know very much. Not to sound pretentious, but there's just better examples within the genre alone. The way Anthony emulates the way Brad speaks is masterful. Surely Brad gave a line read for these lines and Tony read them accordingly. If you imagine Brads voice, it fits so perfectly.

Death is beautiful.. It gives us another chance to live a life like we desire, to correct the mistakes that we knowing or unknowingly commited and gives us a chance to redeem overselves, we can ascend to greatness... It I'm hindu by the way..
this is realy a great movie, the acting is great and yet very suttle even in close ups. What i also like is the the scenes are long giving the actor to give there best. A rare gift in these days of CGI and green screen

The biggest problem i have with this movie is that if you see death in that way, it confirms death is not the end. And it changes existential fear of not knowing to at best some nostalgia for soon to be end earth existence.

@@kennytinker24 At the very end of the book of revelations it is implied that the being that is talking about how God is cast down to his people to forever be with them on the new earth, is from the perspective of Death, whom leaves there to either go somewhere new or be on eternal holiday.

death doesn't blink as long as the camera is on his face, but when the camera is on bill death is blinking like he has something in his eye.
Screen presence of Hopkins is just immense, captures attention like nothing else.

I never heard the clock ticking in the background in this scene, it is an interesting thing to hear.

The subtle ticking of a grandfather clock this entire scene. A sound easily overheard until met with mortality. Which I think is a more appropriate name than "death."

Seriously!!! Absolute perfect casting! Brad Pitt was the best choice for this role. And Anthony Hopkins, what more is there to say?! It's ANTHONY FREAKING HOPKINS!! The man can make any movie even more awesome I.e. 'The Wolfman', 'Red 2', etc...This movie was so amazing. And Brad's role as Death was SPOT ON

The biggest problem i have with this movie is that if you see death in that way, it confirms death is not the end. And it changes existential fear of not knowing to at best some nostalgia for soon to be end earth existence.

This movie hit on so many different levels and the love stuff was a little sappy. Overall was still a very good and solid movie.
