- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- A couple of days ago, Nintendo dropped a new Super Mario Maker 2 update out of the blue. The legendary update, and wow, legendary Super Mario Maker 2 update it is indeed. Not only did we get tons of new Super Mario Maker 2 items and even enemies to toy around with, but we also got a completely new game mode, and even an amazing new power up. But all these new additions also raise an important question. How good are the new items, which one is the best one, and which new Super Mario Maker 2 item is the absolute worst? Well today we are finally going to answer this eternal question, because today we will discuss the new possibilities the new items open up, and we will review all new items.

I really hope they can use the ninji concept on normal levels. I think it’d be cool to have the creator’s clear test be a ‘golden ninji’ so you can see how it was intended vs how it’s changed.
Yes! It would also call out people who use dev exits. :)
this could make puzzle stages really bad, it should be implemented in endless mario challenge after dying like 5-10 times to the same level
it would be good and bad, it would kill puzzle levels and well crafted troll levels (which hopefully aren't in endless, those are meant to be played on their own), but at the same time it kills dev exits so it's a trade off. Besides I think learning a level is part of the fun.
@Noopsel why not use the ingame tag system to help with that? certain tags won't get any ninji while all the others do, this solves the puzzle problem and the dev exist problem
You know how many data would it take for them to store all information of all clears for all levels? You have to know exactly all the things the player did, for every player that played the level, that without a doubt would multiply by 10 or even more the data every course requires, I don't think it's doable...

Practically everyone has stated that they don't want Link to transform back into Mario and would rather if he had his own health bar or even just die immediately if he gets hit.
Hopefully Nintendo listens and patches something like this in during a future patch. It would be much more interesting and immersive if the mastersword and similar powerups in the future completely changed you into the character, and if touching an ordinary Mario powerup such as a fire flower or mushroom changed you back into Mario.
I think it would be even more interesting if the "health bar" was a separate powerup that could stack with everything else in any game mode. I mean, fire or raccoon Mario with a 3 hit buffer would also be really cool.
Nintendo's not going to do a patch that will completely change how power-up work. Sorry.

It’s Pokey Not Poki
Tell that to ProtonJon, his whole fanbase yelled "MOVE FASTER POKEY!"
My main gripe with the Pokeys is that they don't work like they did in SMW. They used to follow Mario, which led to some really cool kaizo levels where you have to guide a Pokey you're spinning on, but in SMM2, they just... act like a red koopa for pathing. Kinda boring.
The only mechanically interesting parts of SMM2 Pokeys are that killing the head kills the whole thing, that neat track thing Ceave mentioned, and the snowball (which also come from Spikes, so I wouldn't really count that).
They should let you decide how long the Pokeys are
0:32 Well, today, we are finally going to answer this eternal question.
(HOW is a couple days eternal?!)

Here’s a truly impossible level that you can’t upload, have a ? block and place a winged coin inside. Next, set a clear condition to grab the most coins. If you look, it will say all 10 coins. Instead of 1. As winged coins are 1. Try it yourself.
Next things we need :
Fuzzys
Fire Bros in the other styles
Ice Flower
Ice Bro
Instead of the ice flower, I believe the penguin suit will work much better. Sliding just makes things fun
The Fan The Superball Flower could turn into an Ice Flower in the other styles. I’m honestly not sure why they didn’t go this route with the Yoshi’s; we have two variants of Goomba shoes, why couldn’t the Stiletto turn into a Red Yoshi instead of replacing big Yoshi eggs with red ones. That and the lack of Fire Bro cross-compatibility still baffles me. Maybe they’ll fix it one day...
You forgot about Fuzzy
My prediction with the ice flower/penguin suit is that the penguin suit would be new super mario bros exclusive, and the ice flower will be in the other styles
Fire bros in all themes no joke. Especially when combined with frozen coin
5:13 The worst part about this is that you can glitch dashpanels, and other items into other the 2D game styles and they function as usual, just without textures.
Are you tired of the shell electricity
Do you want electricity in 3d world
TRY THE NEW SPIKE BALL ELECTRIC SISTEM.
are the shells gonna kill an elephant with a spike ball?
...
What.
@@genericchannel4910 I also have the same question... What?
E Mou Essentially, there are two systems of delivering electricity: Edison with his DC current, which is what batteries operate on and Tesla with his AC (alternating current) which relies on the direction of the current alternating at a frequency.
The two were rivals, and Edison especially tried to discredit AC. One of the most notable was Edison killing a problematic elephant at Luna Park Zoo at Coney Island with AC.
Now it'll be "not-so-shiny but still deadly dotted p-block" instead of "shiny yet deadly coins"
Nintendo: Adds Fuzzies in the game
Ceave: *This is a huge game changer*
Uhm... bad news
11:26 Ceave I have 2 solutions even though I don't play the game, I can think of these because of your videos:
1. Have a contraption that detects if link takes damage and starts a timer before it dispenses a master sword and mario has to run and jump to avoid death
2. Have doors/pipes that acts like checkpoints where if link takes damage, mario can enter these doors/pipes and return to a pipe that dispenses master swords but he has to do everything that he has already done or rather than doors/pipes have the dectector contraption again and have it transport mario if it is activated
In my opinion, both of these are still punishing but prevents soft locks and allows you to not give master swords like candy
(Sorry if this comment is too long)
Wow! Never thought about how good spikeballs were before this! Also do link's bombs have weight and do they add to the entity limit. It would be really great if you could do a video just explaining all the different ways you can use spikeballs and the link powerup. GREAT VIDEO!
Don't know about the entity limit, but they do have weight. You can toss them on a seesaw to elevate one side, and then do a ground pound on the seesaw to launch the bomb into the air.
One other good thing about spike balls - they kinda work as a Fuzzy replacement
9:20 electricity comes to 3D world! hoo-ray!!
Dash panels allow you to do a somewhat precise speed run so I'd give them a two

This chain reaction looks amazing!
:-D
Fun fact: You could recreate Ptooies by placing a spike ball above a twister. Pretty cool
Also, next update should add a randomizer block with reception rails similar to redstone, allowing for randomized stages and even turned based battles.
So... Roulette block?
Christopher Assiryani
Roulette blocks would be so cool. You could like, put in a bunch of different items. Like, you could have one that has three hammer Bros and one mushroom
Christopher Assiryani That could be neat, though I was also thinking of a block that signals a random number between 1 and 10 and would send a signal strength based on the number. However I could see a roulette block being useful as well. Unless you mean SUPER MARIO RUSSIAN ROULETTE DELUXE
I think a roullete block would be neat when used fairly, but this kind of rng makes completely luck-based stages possible... Probably not what Nintendo is looking for
@@pos2260 Luck based stages are already possible.

But sadly, as far as i know xou cant make these elevator levels where a big spiky boi rolls around in the elevator cause they break when hitting a wall
Christof Huberth you can sort of do that if you have sideways trampolines on it
@@Chengi I guess, thats not a bad idea, but the ball woulb bounce. But i think i found a setup
Oh yeah nevermind, while the platform is moving upwards, the bounce is neglegible
Here is some information about spike balls I found from experimentation:
Spike balls that come out of a pipe roll in the direction of mario relative to the pipe. If mario is left of the pipe the ball goes left and vice versa.
Spike balls that have not been destroyed and that are loaded from the right hand side of the screen roll to the right. This means we can trigger an impulse when mario is moving from right to left and vice versa.
Spike balls are capable of simple harmonic motion which, if it were possible to get a pulse from them without them breaking multiple times, could make a very very simple timer.
Ceave, there is a glitch that allows you to import items from 2d styles to the 3D style and vice versa. All you have to do is load in a blank stage, put any items of your choice down delete them, and then exit the level without saving and keep reloading until you get the style you want to import to. Just hold b to undo and the item will appear there. However, it will be invisible. The top left corner of all clear pipes in the 2d styles seems to be a still frame of the breaking animation of the frozen coin block. With this glitch, you can get actual shells in 3D World, clear pipes in 2d styles, and do pretty much anything else. Hopefully you can try the glitch out before Nintendo patches it.

Wouldnt having a WR ghost for every stage make them take up so much more data storage and mess with nintendos servers?
I doubt a ghost would require significant amounts of data.
@@cube2fox You really only have to save two int numbers for coordinates every frame to record their movements, one int64 is 8 bytes long, so in a level with 300 seconds that would be 16 Byte ÷ (1 sec ÷ 60fps ≈ 0,0166) × 300 sec = 288KByte of movement data, plus a few more for UUID of the player with which you can get data like world record holders' profile and time. It would really be not much more than it already is per level
@@resneptacle And 32 bit integers would surely be enough for coordinates, which requires half as much data.
Even 16 bit integers should be enough 🤔
FireEye i imagine its more that they havent captured it for existing levels, and people will complain about inconsistent experience
The idea to have the sword change the playstyle to Link and the mushroom change it back to Mario is really good. As for the heart meter... well, they could work it like Mario Galaxy, where Link has a set number of hits (specified in level data like a clear condition) and let coins replenish them. Heck, even style the coins as hearts while "Link mode" is active.

One thing to note about snowballs is that unlike spikeballs they tend to roll only under certain conditions. So if spawned in freefall, landing from a parachute or pass through a clear pipe that exits up or down, it will not roll. Makes it interesting to try to get a mechanism when you have to specify how they spawn to get them to roll.
When nintendo add fuzzies:
Ceave : (fills the entire screen with only fuzzies)
Ceave : *(GIVES THEM)*
"Oh also bombs walk in the night mode... cool."
The solution to the "Link acts as a normal powerup" problem is using the clear condition where you can't take damage
Thats not exactly the problem ceave was meaning. But the problem is the same as fireflower mario not needing to take damage in boss fights either.
“Spike balls are the greatest item in the game”
Spike: Am I a joke to you
P-blocks might not enable too many new contraptions, but they will make a lot of contraptions way more compact, by not having to worry about solid blocks and/or coins getting dislodged by Bob-ombs and shells.
3.0.0 dropped around 1 month ago and the koopalings are happily included. I really like them
Can't wait for the video on the new update
A workaround I've created for boss fights where you NEED a powerup is to add a track circle with 4 of that powerup. giving you a bit more room for error.
Possible new additions for the future:
-FUZZIES
-Ice Flower
-Big Icicles (ones that only respawn after resetting the room and remain in place rather than breaking)
-Swinging Platforms
- Bony Beetles
- Wigglers can float on Water and Poison. Seriously, they die as soon as they touch it. This game is not true to its original.
-Beach theme with the ability to raise the water level. At night, all enemies will act like they are underwater except for Mario.
-Volcano theme with the lava level thing. At night, meteors will fall at random destroying blocks in their way. Ground will destroy them instantly.
Yo ceave where you at, u haven’t uploaded in like, a month
Dragono 301064 ikr

@@LordDankTron i'm worring half a month and the biggest update and yet nothing
I think Link becoming Mario in a Link-based level acts as a "saving throw" where if you can make the final hit in this weakened state you can proceed towards the next healing station but you're still more likely to die.
Now that I think about it. Pokeys can remplace stock enemies in 3d world style.
Spike balls also don't die in lava like shells, so now there's a shell-like item that can set off contraptions under lava
I don't know if Ceave is aware of this but apparently, if a swinging claw grabs an item that item is globaly loaded.
However, I only tried it with a P switch in the NSMBU style but I discovered it by myself so I think I deserve some credit.
Also, I like cookies.
Something you missed!
Spike Balls follow the player in ground night.
They also fall back on the ground when they land.
They also fly too.
The problem with ninji ghosts are if a ninji hits a invisible block or something it wont appear on the player’s side, and if there is no world record then you have no ninji to race with.
"So having new enemies is obviously always welcome, even if it is only so that we don't have to look at the same seven threats over and over again", That is basically Trainz 2 Mobile.
Just replace enemies and threats with assets.
I honestly think the Master Sword should have gotten the same rating as Spike Balls. Spike balls allow for CRAZY contraptions and bring signaling to the 3d world style, but the Master Sword adds INFINITE creative possibilities for new stages and puzzles too (figuring out how to use Link's abilities to trigger a contraption that Mario simply couldn't)
Oh I just realized I wasn't subscribed before the New Year! Gotta change that! Anyway, my favourite addition to Super Mario Maker 2 is Spike, because there was only one desert enemy before, being the Angry Sun, and I think Spikes and their spiked balls can add lots of cool gimmicks to stages. Anyway, Happy New Year!
An idea for a health system with the link powerup in boss fights:
Create a system that only activates when you're small mario, and have it trigger the counter from the only jump thrice video or a similar counter.
With that, add an on/off switch under a red pipe, to dispense another sword.
When the counter runs out, it simply stops dispensing powerups
(note: this is a rough idea, but it should be possible)
One thing I would like to mention about Dash Blocks is that they have the same Super Global Loading as One-Way Doors do. Strangely, they don’t count towards the entity limit, but takes the space of Arrow Signs instead. Hopefully this will grant Dash Block at least another wonderful Fuzzy.
I would also like to mention that Dash Blocks, even though they take the space of arrow signs, they are treated as an entity, meaning you can stop Pipes and Question Blocks from spitting out their Entity-filled contents if you have enough Dash Blocks, yet you can still have many entities on screen at the same time.
I would love a MegaMan powerup, I mean, a character that attach to the walls, throws projectiles, has multiple abilities, and also a really great soundtrack, would be beautiful.
I did have an idea for another enemy they could introduce in future. Shy Guys. How would they work? Basically, they're walking platform enemies. You can jump on top of them safely, but if you bump into them you get hurt. It might even be possible to have Sniffits as an alternative enemy when shaken, where they basically act the same way but shoot out a harmful projectile. I feel that this could open up a few interesting possibilities.
In fact, why not have the Phanto as well? Got a key when there's a Phanto on screen? He's chasing you until you use it. Go all in on Doki Doki Panic, that could be really interesting to see.
For combat stages, it is possible to increase Link's health with by 2 with a headgear (Buzzy Helmet / Spiny Helmet) and a footwear (Goomba Shoe variant / Dry Bones Shell).
AIso if the boss fight is made in a way so that you have to do something to get another power-up (say hit an on off switch three times while surviving attacks) to make it challenging.
Unlike any other enemy, Pokies change weight based on height. They can actually be quite useful when combined with seesaws.
Wow, this update is so great that I want to force my parents to get the online membership (which isn’t even that expensive in the first place)
Hey Ceave, if you're reading this, the final update to the game just dropped, and it adds INSANE new features. Gonna do a review on that like you did with this one?
You can technically bring spiny shells over from 2D into 3D by using item smuggling and even upload them, although the latter is a bit risky.
"It would have been better if the power up permanently chaged Mario to Link"
I don't remember how the game was called, but there's a game, similar to SMM, where you can permanently use Link by just jumping into a block, and what's best is that the game has custom Metroid boss fights! (Including Mother Brain). And it has more themes than SMM!
I think the game was called Super Mario Bros. X, it only has one game style though, Super Mario Bros. 3 (with the All-Stars/Advance sprites, even the Link sprite is modified to that style)
Yeah, making a Link-centered course without softlock sections (and without easily accessable powerup fountains) is a toughy.
Maybe you could do like a checkpoint system of 1-way passages that players need to regain the sword through upon losing the sword! Or (as suggested by someone in a reddit thread) have the powerup fountains spawn koopas instead during boss fights, so Mario isn't *completely* helpless. Or, in Boss fights, put the powerup fountain behind a tough area to access, maybe?
The ONLY problem I actually have with the master sword power-up is that you should be able to toggle off levels that contain it for endless mode, and levels should be marked for it. Some people might just want to play mario, and not want to play zelda. Not a big problem at all since you can just skip those levels/choose others when picking levels, but would still be nice.
Did you know that when you hit a P-Switch, the frozen coins turn into frozen bricks/turning blocks and if fire touches them they turn into normal bricks which is cool.
The P block is actually really good because it allows for timed ON/OFF blocks to exist in 3D world theme
