Mate... I've got the SV-1 73 as my live keyboard. The best live keyboard I've EVER had. Fun, great sounds (electric piano and real piano) and so much soul. I love Nord but this beats the crap out of any Nord. This is so much fun! And that is the bottom line. Music should be FUN!!
probably the best review/showcase I've ever seen, seriously.
You let the piano do the talking and took your time with each sound.
Not to mention the fact that i could actually feel how much you enjoyed playing it.
10/10 lads, subbed.
I had this keyboard from 2014 to 2016, I absolutely loved it. I wrote songs on it that only sound good with this specific board and specific factory settings. For some dumb reason I traded it in on a different brand with a lot of electronic gizmos and oddball sounds that I will never use. I regretted it and I’m happy to say that I just purchased a new one and it arrives tomorrow! Can’t wait to be reunited with this amazing piece of equipment.
excellant!!!
There's something very special about the SV-1 that facilitates developing a very special playing relationship with it. The RH3 keybed's feel and action, the incredibly beautiful and realistic sounds and mechanical special effects add to the playing experience. Despite the introduction of the new, more powerful GrandStage, as a stage piano, the SV-1 IMHO still holds its own. I think the newest red version looks pretty bad ass, but their all black model, too, looks awesome and perhaps more professional.
Thanks for your beautiful playing✌
wow !
That was awesome
I'm still scratching my head about wether or not i should get one and start playing the keys, i think this was a convincer by a long shot !!
Thank you Jack !
This is still such a great demo. I still come back just to hear that intro song. I love that Jack just allowed the sound to take him somewhere. Would love to see more videos like this. Do more videos of retro keyboards and just play and talk about the board.
Grazie per la bella recensione. Mi emoziona sentire parlare di SV1 ancora dopo tutto questo tempo. Thanks for the nice review. I'm thrilled to hear about SV1 again after all this time.
Best demonstration I've heard on the SV-1 this vid sold me thanks, and blessings to you.....
Love this keyboard for the pianos and clavs. It would be great if Korg released a new version with the last bank being samples downloads. Love korg gear, great for gigging. I still use a Karma. Merry Christmas. Can't wait for winter NAMM. 😁😎
Jack, Love your passion. You're always so amusing in a good way. I bought my first synth from Andertons (a Yamaha CS5 mono synth) but sadly not living in the Guildford area now. Keep up the good work. I would definitely like an SV-1 even after 10 years.
Terrific review, considering getting one now
Everything Jack plays is awesome. That intro was just beautiful.
Greet demo. Nice to get one that seems so personal.
Hoping to get the 73 key version later this year.
i think korg sv 1 design is still beautiful to compete
I am an owner of the 88 key version of the Korg SV1 and I love it....Even over the Korg SV2
another GREAT demo Jack! ive owned 2 SV1s and your video has made me wish I'd not sold my last one!
Best review ever. I am happy person now. Cheers! :)
So so so good in every way! love you mate xx
It’s like asking is the les Paul still relevant? I love that it’s all knobs and dials. It has a gorgeous amount of awesome sounds, and it’s tube driven. I found this keyboard, after unhealthily lusting after nords for the the last couple years. This one is home for me. It’s amazing.
It's my favorite vintage style instrument. I just wish I could get my hands on a reverse key 73 in red.
This video just convinced me to purchase one!
I played one of these in a store along time ago and was super super impressed with the Rhodes sounds. In own a Seventy Three. Sounds just like it. I want one.
Just about to pick mine up tomorrow, ex Foals too. Totally stoked especially after hearing your playing on one. You got talent, hope you’re releasing stuff and not just flogging it.
Nice vid of Sv-1, jack is such a dope player and laugh too. Love the sounds got both sv1 and nord stage 3, both good for different settings. SV-1 Rhodes is stupidly killer sound!! Nice one Andertons again as always ✌️🔥🙏🎶🤙
Great demo thanks. Dig the fact that its looks are somewhat reminiscent of a Polymoog Keyboard as well - especially the casing, face-on switch panel and those tasty preset buttons in the middle. Nice playing :)
Bought it this week and tried it today. I love it.
Glad to here it Schomo. Much love X
Heavy for gigging but amazing for playing. It's simply a wonderful keyboard. Amazing for that classic rock vibe. Just a joy to play. Would recommend it to anyone. I played every keyboard in the Sweetwater store. This is the one I couldn't put down. Brought it home. Clav and a wah will get some amazing funky bass. The organs with tremello and amps are like nothing I've heard out of any keyboard. Could go on all day about it.
I'm watching this in 2020 and we now have the SV2...and I'm gonna buy one! I'm sure there are much better keyboards out there but these things have such a great look and vibe. I have to own one!
WHAT A SOUND, WHAT A TALENT..😉👍🇩🇰
Nords are great keyboards--there's no disputing it. But for those of us who can't lay down that kind of cash, this keyboard was a godsend. Still got mine, still play it.
Still play it?
It's great for what it is. Great action, easy to use with a bunch of useful sounds. Is it the nicest sounding? I wouldn't say so, but it's easily good enough and with a band or ambient noise in the room you would hardly notice. Works great as a midi controller if you need higher quality samples also.
Really enjoyed this video Jack, I'd love to see more of your own opinions on keyboards. Could you make a video where you go through your dream set up? That'd be really cool to see
Hey James, thanks for watching and for the kind words mate. I'll have a word and see if Im allowed to live out my keyboard dreams in 2019!!! Merry Christmas Stallion X
I’ve literally looking at buying an sv1 for over a year and did my research the sv1 is the best of everything I want but I’m not really a keyboard player so I never really have the money for it.☺️👌
great player, great sense of humour, great review!
Yup!!..Still sounds darn good!!!
Saving up for one. Watching these videos are helping me not spend my money on cheaper stage pianos so thank you very much !!!!
this was the best keyboard review ever!!!!
In todays world, every technological machine, more than 6 months old, seems to be obsolete. I don´t know why. I think that the SV-1 still is a great instrument. More than anything, you feel that is an instrument and not just another machine. I think it is a great peace of equipment, and don´t see the need to buy something newer just because it is newer. I love my SV-1 (with black and red keys). So cool.
I think that as a professional artist myself, I would love to have one of these. The idea of having one dedicated unit that has pianos/EPs and other things that require a full keyboard is great. I love the idea of the simplistic nature of the unit. Press a button and you've got your sound. You need to adjust it on the fly? Done. Add more EFX? Done.
That is what I look for in a unit as a bottom keyboard. All of the other units are simply for layering, except for a clonewheel (of which I'd have a Crumar Mojo or something). I love the idea of this unit, even more so than a Grandstage.
I realize we have so much available to us these days with regard to sounds and such, but I frankly like the idea of the setups from back in the day. Having a great piano/EP/EP Grand as a stand alone unit that can layer other units via MIDI, a clonewheel, and other synth things available to me, is paramount.
My normal live rig for big gigs consists of around 5-6 boards, because I want to play each one by itself if needed but also layer them together thru MIDI (except for the clonewheel).
Sometimes it is nice to just play a unit dedicated to the basic piano/EP sounds. I still do this in my studio and it is fun to go back to basics.
I have played the SV-1 in the past and would love to get one. It just seems really nice to have the 'old school' vibe to it and it allows for that kind of playability. When I am playing a unit like this, I don't want any keyboard splitting; I want the full expanse of the keyboard. I love the look of the unit too, as it adds to the vibe.
Well said Harry!! Thanks for watching and taking the tike to comment - all the very best for this year Sir Xx
had one for a week... some of the keys were bad and it was brand new. i might get the demo model but they have an early nord for 6 usd i might just snatch up instead since its WAYYYYY cheaper...
great vid. you are always entertaining.
hahahahaha this guy has me cracking up sometimes!! Nice review man.
Owned a red 73 key version for the last 7 years and I still have yet to play pianos and EP’s on a keybed that feels as good as the SV1. Organs are shit, tube drive is only so useful, and yes it’s obviously very limited...and I don’t care. Own a Nord stage 3 and I still prefer the Rhodes, wurlis, and even a piano or two on the SV1. But the keybed-closest thing to the heavy grand piano action that’ll get you practicing those fast runs accurately!
Great vintage strings and trons too! Too bad they won’t expand on the sound packs.
This is comment is just what i needed to read lol. Ordering one for sure.
Same here, best and most heavy electric piano i ever bought!
SV2 for the win!
I've had my Korg SV-1 for about 8 years and could not agree more with this assessment. The organ sounds are indeed such shit. Besides that, love the vintage look and feel, and it truly nails the Rhodes, wurlis sounds. It's really too bad about the organs, as it's the reason I'm now shopping around.
Love the way you play Jack. If I was living in the UK I'd definitely be giving you a call to book you for my weddings!
Anthony Woodruffe probably couldn't afford him :/
Really enjoyed your review and playing of the SV-1 Jack. Was the SV-1 you played the original factory sounds or have you uploaded any new Korg sounds? Cheers!
really gifted piano player! Great video, great SV-1.
Wish you had tested sound pack #3 which adds a few really nice bass + piano/e-piano splits.
Had a Rhodes MKII, sold it, (please, forgive me...) my 73s SV-1 which I own for 8Y now may not be as inspiring,
but comes close. It can sound like the real thing.
I see the Nord not as a competitor, it has a slightly different approach, much more costly,
in some points ahead, the whole organs, pad, effects section,
probably better in a band context, too. Hovever, the Nord Keybed is a compromise, has to be good for organs + pads.
Wheras the Korg RH3 Keybed was developed for piano / epiano. It is nealy impossible to play a proper organ on it. After all,
it does feel like a real instrument.
Is the piano still relevant 300 years later? A good instrument is timeless. People still pay a lot (way too much in my opinion) for 30-40 year old synths because they’re looking for a specific vibe; not just the sound either. Some are inspired by certain aesthetics.
Well said. Thank you.
Actually ,with a bit of wisdom and knowledge you can find gear that has unique sound for very little.
@@adrianfundescu5407 Wisdom, knowledge--and luck.
Love this review of the SV-1. I have recently purchase one. Which patch was that used in intro?
I'd love to hear "I can't make you love me" played on the SV-1 with that last piano sound with the fat pad sound.
Fuck yeah it sounds amazing
Merry Christmas Jack and the Andertons mandems/mandaims!! 👑🌲
Right back at ya Synct. Thanks mate X
Beautiful playing mate! I thought you were going to break out in song...
Nice demo. Thanks Jack! I believe if you like the ergonomics of the instrument and the sound, it will always be worth your money. Some people in here say it might not be relevant any longer simply because it is 10 yrs old. These same people would then HAVE to say my Steinway or my Hammond B3 are no longer relevant because the Steinway's strings and harp are 40 yrs old and the Hammond's tonewheels are 50 yrs old. Kinda silly when you think of it in that way. Bottom line is, just like "if you love your job you will never work a day in your life", if you love the sound, it will never be old. :)
Happy Christmas all. I'd love to see Jack do a showdown between the Nord, the Korg SV-1, the Yamaha Reface CP and the Roland RD 2000 maybe? Keyboard feel differences would be appreciated along with sound/sample/modelling variations. Would probably require an external controller at least on the Reface, and perhaps use the same controller on part of the test to remove different keyboard feels. I really dig Jack's humor on his videos and the compare videos I've seen him do have always seemed very fair.
Good shout Dennis, well worth shooting those out, thanks for the idea my man and Merry Christmas X
Maybe go to a shop and try them ;-) I watched so many reviews about so many things, headphones, DAC´s keyboards etc. and you know what i wasted so much time with it. One visit in a proper music store can save you lot of time :-) JUst let your own ears and fingers decide!
I know that this video is old, but when I first heard this keyboard, I knew that this was the one. I've heard this video and I get the "I had to get out this room/video." When they stopped making it to make the SV-2, I was skeptical...then I realized the upgrades were worth it. Thank for this video
I hear that the SV1 has better acoustic pianos though.
Had an original red one when they first came out, and part-exes it for Nord electro 5d73 after 6 years because of slight issues with the keybed and the flexibility of the Nord. The Nord is a great instrument apart from one thing...RHODES sounds. Loved the lightness, layer and split capabilities, sample download and organs. For me however a bottom keyboard is all about the Rhodes firstly, acoustic piano second and Clavs third. Had the Nord for about 18 months but sold it as couldn’t get on with the ep’s. Bought a Yamaha CP4, lovely sounds, fantastic keybed feel but made me realise how much I love a hands on keyboard. Re-enter the SV1 again, bought recently. Wow, this is what enjoyment is all about. I can’t believe however that Korg have not released an updated version.
My suggestions:
Additional Kronos piano & ep samples
Increase 8 favourites
Limiter/compression knob for levelling across patches.
Keep the editor (works great for me)
Better amp and overdrive (they go from nothing to over the top with not a lot between)
Knobs should output midi cc
Lighter weight
Much better organs however I would not use this for organ so irrelevant for me.
Some split capability would be good but not a dealbreaker for me
Not withstanding the above the SV1 is so much fun to play, no menus, direct effects control, nice keybed and sounds great in a band context.
LOVE IT
To be fair, the enhanced Rhodes recently released sound fantastic. Will still keep the SV1 but......Yamaha CP73 or Nord Electro 6d73??????@Andy Young
HAS IT REALLY BEEN TEN YEARS?! Wow
Augmented Chord Face at 30:24!
50 year’s from now, the Korg SV-1 and 2 will be relic’s but they will be worth more than they are today. In my opinion, they are the best keyboards money can buy, not just because of what they can do but how they look and how fun they are to play!
I’d be quite interested in some tutorial videos using different bits of gear... but appreciate this is more of a sales channel.
Edit: the biggest reason I watch these videos is to try and learn from Jack’s playing (along with other special guests - Luke from Korg is awesome!)
Hey Andy, really kind words man, appreciate it. We tentatively shot some footage that might be construed as a tutorial the other day so that should be coming online soon. Wether it's any good or not is another thing, we'll give it a go anyways!! Merry Christmas and much love and thanks X
Love this demo! What song is Jack playing when he’s singing “What the people say?” @ 18:30?
Also can Jack and Luke do a SV2 demo??
I like this chap's style...he takes his time, and clearly rates the SV-1.....Doug McKendrick/Klassic Keys GB
Asking whether the SV-1 is still relevent is a bit like asking if a Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer is still relevent ... however great to see it having a proper review ... nice one Jack! ... had mine for about 6 or 7 years now, still love it, it feels like a proper instrument rather than a synth that does the sounds, the keybed plays beautifully and I've never had any issues with it (I think the early burgandy ended ones had a few probs, but it's Korg's top keybed, as used in the Kronos and it feels perfect). The organs and synths are a bit pointless really, but it's a stage vintage piano and it's a specialist ... and for that it's unbeatable!
I've made gobs of money gigging with this board. As it contains timeless sounds, it will always be relevant.
I agree 💯 great keyboard
I just bought one for the Canadian equivalent of $675 USD I’ve wanted one for over a decade. The seller Church player who replaced it with an upright.
but does it have the rich sound of even a Kawai MP11? I guess to each their own but I need a keyboard to sound like a grand piano as much as possible, the rest is extra. I don't play but am around many who do and if I ever get a chance, I want one to learn on that sounds like a quality grand piano. Love your video, would love your input.
all you need !!! SV1
Everything is relative to price, and these are a good deal for the money. A CP or RD-2000 offers a lot more function, but more $$.
Does anyone know if some of the sv1 engines were carried over to the grandstage that Korg came out with?
Big Bon Iver vibes at the start! Juicy!
Whoop whoop!! He's my hero man. Thanks for hanging Nick, as always brudda X
Which Bon Iver track is it please. I can't place it. Cheers.
Hi Alwyn, I'm jamming here but the sound and chords might be reminiscent of Beth Rest, or Hymnostic on the new Big Red Machine Album, perhaps!! Thanks for tuning in, Jack x
@@jackduxbury1632 thanks for that. Love this vid, mainly because if the keys but also because you seem genuinely surprised at the quality of sounds. Good work fella!
Make me wanna put on some George Duke, some Stevie, some Doobie Bros, some Alexander O' Neal...
Where do you put your Gin and Tonic?
Geoff Webber The cupholder has to be bought seperately.
Actually, for that, I'd go for a Crumar Seven: it's way easier to put drinks on it :)
That was a selling point for me. Butches can't put their drinks down.
Where it belongs not on my instruments amps or gear
Is it relevant............Yes it is, Korg SV1 is in it to win it! Classic never goes out of style. The next 1500$ usd i have is gonna be for this sweet little jem!
Be me brother. I love you. I have a room for you (and you can play my SV1 as much as you want and other instruments). But you'll have to take care of my 2 kids from time to time lol. Really love this keyboard, so special interaction with it.
Count me in, I'm an only a child and always a brother (especially one that owned a SV1)!! Merry Christmas Brudda and thankyou for hanging out X
Seriously, this guy needs to earn more money!!!
Esteban Fontaiña he plays keys for James Bay, I’m sure he’s doing alright haha
Reface cp with a Yamaha p series is reasonably better in some aspects.
1. Reface cp sounds fantastic
2. Reverb and delay simultaneously
3. Effects are great
4. That Yamaha p series piano sound
5. Better action
6. The cp sound on the reface
The sv-1 sounds great and there is a lot to be said about a single unit
Better action on the reface? I thought this post was serious till I got to #5.
I purchased a red limited edition reverse key (one of 500) a few years back and was excited to get it. I finally did and found only a couple of the pianos/Ep useful. I tried to incorporate it into my rig for larger jobs but always found myself going back to my Stage 2. I finally put it on Reverb and sold it and bought a Nord Stage 3 compact that I use nearly every day. The design of the SV1 is beautiful but not functional, in my opinion.
Korg absolutely destroys Nord when it comes to EP’s and looks! Nord is very cheap looking and feeling but it cost way too much on top of that!
shut up :-O ten years already?!! feels like I bought it last year xDDD gotta use it more often. Best epiano I've ever had
Jack, thanks for another great review down to the usual standard! Seriously how does the SV-1 compare to the Roland VR 730?
Your vid comparing that kbrd with the Vox continental convinced me to splash out on the VR combo. Really happy with it.
This thing sounds amazing. But what were they thinking with that body design? Looks like a giant TV soundbar.
30:23 made this whole video worth it
I sold my black sv1 because it had keybed problems when I played too loud in the central octave (crack!), In the mix the piano sound is not heard at all. The samples are very weak. Excellent electric piano and string sounds. Also the possibility of having your sounds without categories, completely deleting all the organs for example. The rest, however, is not worth the money spent. The editor is old. On some versions of Windows it does not work, except with a change I found in a forum because officially korg does not say anything. The pedal supplied, which allows the noise of the sustain pedal of the piano, if it breaks it is not possible to buy it again, because it does not exist on the market. The distortion if increased directly without first cancel it is very strong and terrible. The keyboard is RH3 is different from the one I have on my Kronos. On sv1 it is much tougher and noisy, although apparently it should be the same. To carry is convenient if you have its original bag (excellent!), But picking it up is complicated because it slips because of its rounded shape and has the unbalanced weight in the back. I was thrilled to have it, but I sold it almost immediately. Too old in conception and however with many faults. Unfortunately...
I have been struggling with whether to Keep my SV-1 and add an Electro 6D for organ and clav stuff, or trade the SV-1 on a Piano 4. Both options will cost me roughly the same money. So the choice is SV-1 and an Electro 6D OR just a Piano 4. I think this video has made up my mind to keep the SV-1 and add the Electro. You lose sight of how awesome something is once you've had it for a while. Plus the SV-1 looks freakin cool in the music room!!
This is exactly what I'm thinking about as well! Add an Electro for organ sounds, or just go the whole hog and get a Nord Stage with hammer action. I'd really like an organ keybed, but by the time you spend the money on a Nord Electro, should you just spend a bit more and get the best stage keyboard around? The SV-1 editor software is getting old, and I'm not convinced it will work much longer. It's pushing me in the direction of going fully Nord, but I'm not convinced yet!
Thanks dude, I'm a player and you've go me sold.....i've laid off this baby for 10 years but I think it's time to act!
LOL HOPE YOU DIDNT...THE 2 IS OUT...
I'm having problems with the keys. Could someone let me know how soon you can hear a tone? How far you gotto push the keys until a tone can be heard.
I Need help , at 26:27.
I dont have this Sound , at My SV 1 this Sound is Mixed with a Piano . How i can delete this Piano Sound , i want the Same Sound like yours the clear Sound at 26:27 Without Piano
What song did he play at 23:52 ? That's amazing !
That's Cotton Jones River
How do you update something was intended to be retro? Even more to the point, why bother? I suppose they could add more memory, or more voices. But it is so good....Perhaps there is room for more tone accuracy or diversion in a few voices? Great piano, anyway. I take it Korg don't supply a razor?
You can learn a lot about voicing just from watching Jack's videos. Great playing. I think the SV-1 is just too long in the tooth to compete now.
Thanks for watching Simon. I think I'M too long in the tooth to compete! ;)
Where can I buy those sound diffusers behind you, and or bass traps
Have you found out? I'm curious to
Is there any special cables to protect against Phantom Power short? FOH guys don’t know any better. :(
TRS is standard but lots of folks are using SV1 XLR cable on stage.
10 years I've wanted one.
Can I get a link to the stand or the “legs” you were talking about?
Hey Matt, thanks for watching mate and for taking the time to comment bud. Here's a link to the official stand:
www.andertons.co.uk/korg-stsv1-stand
Not screw in "Jobbies" like I thought they were but ig really does go well with keyboard and fits the aesthetic me thinks Xx
I found them too, with a little patience. Thanks a million. You're awesome brother. So, how did you like the action of the board? With its age, that's the only potential downside.
Is the Korg SV1 still relevant? Is a Steinway still relevant? Well, don´t think so. Steinway is just so 1920s I think. There are newer stuff out there etc. The companies struggle their asses off to make more and more "up to date" products. Of course electric pianoes have developed a lot through the last 20 years, but in the end of the day, I brilliant player can make a toy sound great, and a bad one can´t even make a Steinway sing. I love my SV1 even if there are newer models out there. Great video. Good fun!
Is there ampli in?
So torn should I get this or new vox continental they both sound great . Help
My gut tells me SV1 - unless you play mainly Organ tones X
Thank you for reply love your videos! would you say the grandstage is a upgraded version of sv 1 ? Can’t decide I’ve heard good things about grandstage and not so good things about Keybed issues on sv 1
Imagine this instrument with a XLR mic input and built in tc helicon vocal fx’s AND a built in mic stand... I would buy it instantly
@Jack duxbury when are you gonna start uploading on you're channel I've been subscribe for a month now.
Ha, firstly, thank you mate. I created it so I could comment on the vids but am trying to find away to find time do my own ting. Hopefully by Namm my man. Much love X
Nearly spat out my Piña colada laughing at that final shot. Yes, I always drink Piña colada when watching one of Jack's videos. It helps.
I'm new to electric pianos, as I played the classic piano for years. Are the organs that bad like everyone is saying? :) I can't really tell by myself. Thanks!
Yes they are. As much as I love this keyboard after owning it for 8 years. The organs are terrible.
@@carlkarawani3683 Thanks for the answer :)
