      well, you can do a test but no Rhodes sounds like another one, I mean you can set harmonic content of each note, so maybe a sample is closer to Herbie's Suitcase, another can be similar to the Joe Sample's one and so on.

    Damn... I tried running the video "blind" behind another browser window and guessing along with Jack. I mistook the Yamaha for the real one! And I've been playing, voicing and repairing wurlies for years. I must say, though, that Jacks Wurlie is a 200a and they tend to sound a little darker than the older models like the 200 that I own. The Yamaha might be modelled on a 200 rather than a 200a, possibly? The Nord was very easy to pick out. Despite Dan saying there is no amp on there, I'm pretty sure he was using the amped sample, which is very easy to spot. The Korg one is just atrocious. I'd wish Nord would try to catch up with Yamaha and ontroduce more/better Wurly samples. Would especially be nice if they would offer some of the older tube-based models as well.

    • @andy5178
      @andy5178 3 роки тому +3

      Actually, Nord does offer an older, but non-amped Wurlitzer patch. They should have tried out that one, imho, as it's closer to an original 200A.

    • @ZakiWasik
      @ZakiWasik 3 роки тому

      @@andy5178 right, but it would still be easy to pick out compared to Yamaha. Try to take the original sample and apply a bit of amp sim. Sounds almost like the new sample and it works better dynamically because the amp sim actually responds more realistic to dynamics as opposed to the sample.

    Another great video guys.... loving your work as always. I play a Wurlitzer EP200A which I absolutely love and I have a Nord too which is great but it'll never quite replace the real deal for Wurli alone. I have got to say the closest emulation of my Wurli is my little Yamaha Reface CP, when played through a master keyboard that thing really sings, I adore it, the EFX are really great. I don't know if it is the same model as the one in the CP73 but it sounds real close to me but I have never played a CP73 to compare. I'd love to know though.

    Wow. Ears of gold there. I,m really a guitarist (40 yrs playing) but do love keyboards, especially EP (big fan of that Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Van Der Graaf Generator 70's vibe) and I would not have got this test no way. I had a Yamaha DX7ii back in the early 90's and that thing could not reproduce strings without sounding harsh, nor analogue pads or swells that sounded warm and lush. It couldn't do much of anything bar destroy brain cells trying to learn how to program the damn thing. Bar existing as a mother keyboard. Bar a half decent sounding EP, the one thing it could do without being offensive to my ears.
    My Moog Rogue though. Oh man. That cost me 40 quid back in 1991. Someone nicked it. I was so pissed.

      I think that the sv2's Epiano sounds are really strong so it was a bit disappointing. Maybe the guy just didnt have it set right. I played the cp88 next to it today and the e pianos on the korg were better side by side according to my self and my producer/engineer.

    Why is the actual Wurlitzer breaking up with distortion? Fucking amateurs!
    Playing the SV2 sort of gave away his hand (no pun intended) by playing outside the range of an actual 200. The Wurlie should have been easy to pick out, as it's easy to hear the mechanics of the actual instrument in the air at that close range. The SV has an editor that lets you really dive deep into more parameters so I'm surprised that they couldn't match the sound better.

    Since he had no headphones on, he also heard the mechanical action. Not a real challenge.

    It doesn't make any sense when the guy guessing sits a meter from the instruments. You can obviously hear the mechanics of the real Wurli from such a distance.

    I agree with Jack the Yamaha sounds so much like the real deal. Nord is awesome but my wallet runs away and hides whenever I think the word Nord.

    Leaving out the Crumar Seven,, witch is mainfocus is emulating ( using psychical modelling, instead of sampling) Rhodes and Wurlitzer, makes this video kinda pointless,, Only showing what you sell, instead what's out there, makes it confusing imo.

      I use a GSI sound module (same sounds as Crumar) and a litlle Yamaha Reface for Wurly emulations. But I can't tell myself which one I prefer, or the one I find closest to the real model!
      Maybe a mix of the 2!! The only thing that I don't really like with the crumar is the guitar amp simulation, which I find too marked (I would prefer to have a simpler drive, without cabinet effects like on the Reface)

    Real thing can't be beat, nord is best at duplicating sound, korg has a great sound, but not authentic, Yamaha, great synth,, natural sounds sorry
