And horns. I thought there was a lot to be said for the horns. I think the keyboard feel is also a big part of horn section playing on the unit. It has so much soul. In fact, the RH3 on my SV2 is the best feel I’ve ever had on any electric keyboard. The SV2 is an E. Piano beast… I feel connected again, like a freshly adjusted Wurlitzer! Not necessarily as superior for Ac. Pianos as for EPs but pretty danged expressive.

  • @Zoco101

I think the SV2-73 is a good buy. It's the only professional stage piano with 73 keys and a graded weighted action. While the S (speaker) version is convenient, it is hard to source and considerably more expensive, particularly in the 73 key format. But with only 73 keys (not 88) you save money and weight and you don't need a bigger car. I understand that the SV pianos are not so good for switching voices and getting consistent volumes, but all the portable (non stage) pianos are the same in these respects, even the RD88, which is supposed to be a stage piano. I think I could put up with those things on a highly portable instrument with great sounds, a great action and handy controls.
And I think the SV2-88 should be a go-to instrument for sound companies that supply everything on stage. I have seen pianists struggle desperately to control the supplied Roland RD-2000 or Nord Grand/Stage piano when it's their first time with the exact instrument. Valuable performance time is lost as the engineer runs back and forth pushing buttons for the pianist. Supposedly, the CP-88 is quicker to learn than those, but honestly, seconds count on stage, so menu systems suck first time round.

Hi Jeremy. I wonder if you thought it was annoying how the "sound" indicator disappears when you choose a favorite, so you can't tell what instrument and variation that favorite is based on. Maybe you're just supposed to remember? All the other lights indicate, for example, what the modulation setting of the favorite is. I guess I'm wondering if other people have noticed that...might be better for a message board, but you have a good critical eye!

  • @jeffmejia111
    @jeffmejia111 3 роки тому +4

    Just a comment,
Personally I got the SV1 for the sound closeness to the Fender Rhodes and Wurly. If you have a rig then most likely you'll have a keyboard for the piano sounds, strings, etc.
But if you're only going to get one keyboard and you're going to use the piano sound to give solo recitals on Chopin and Beethoven then I'd look elsewhere. They put SV for a reason SV=Stage Vintage...it's supposed to sound retro.

Very good review. I had written on another review of this board that there is a reason the Korg Grandstage is called their Flagship. Even though it's only a couple hundred dollars more it surpasses the SV2 by far and for many of the aspects you pointed out that the SV2 came up short. Have you played at the Grandstage? Tried the Korg SV2S 88 yesterday at City Music and the overall experience is good. Unfortunately, Jeremy doesn’t have the SV2S to try out the speakers. Speakers sound great but 2x15W is not loud enough. Just enough for personal use. The worst deal breaker for me is the vibrating noise from something touching the chassis when playing the middle F note (using piano) at full speaker volume!!! And apparently, someone from Korg forum has the same issue so this isn’t an isolated glitch. Totally unacceptable for a stage piano at this price!

Hi Jeremy the sv2 looks awesome..May I suggest you do a review I’ve Roland fp80.. I know it’s ancient history but it remains the best keyboard. It has a great piano sound and others. It has 4 extended internal speakers with 2 placed on the back and 2 smaller speakers at each end of the keyboard for a more ambient sound. The keyboard action is truly practical and solid. The amplified PF80 is pure with lots of body in the piano sound. There have an internal vocal harmonizer which is really good fun and very versatile. I own one but can’t find another one anywhere. They are valued for good reason !!

Besides the complaint I have regarding the panning tremolo going to mono when the single/mono tube amp circuit is used, I don’t like how coarse the increments are on the rotary encoders, They should have also included the CX-3 tonewheel modeling sounds and offered an optional drawbar accessory.

My biggest complain about the SV1 is the quality of the acoustic pianos and also only 2 sound packs ... KORG didn't really make an effort to give more sounds . Best sound is the Fender Rhodes .... Don't know about this SV2 model ... But after 10 years !? Should be nice that SV1 owners can also use the new sounds ....

They should have kept the original on/off switch. I have a red SV-1(73) and I won't be selling it.

New video idea (been done before on other channels but) how about going to the music shop and just have a walk thru it and whatever they have on display play it a bit and give your experience and your impressions from your experience.

I had SV 1 , sold it due to living arrangements & bought. Kronos 2 ,that's my studio - then I moved , (I'm a nomad ) I needed a gigging keyboard , ended up with a Korg B2 , which God willing I will ship to Morocco in autumn. I spend time there/ but I shall need a gigging keys next year. I'm thinking Korg D1 , because I love the RH keyboard & I know the sounds , I don't do lots of tweaking so really SV 2 is overkill for me . plus it's heavy . I've looked at Roland FP 10/30 but for the price I still think D1 is a rugged stage piano , with basic sounds I need . I've got a Roland V combo to do organs & synths.. & I use a looper to create live backings. I'm still looking , I like Korgs keypads , I am even thinking SP280 , but weight starts creeping up again & D1 I can just manage , or my roadie will . Sounds are the same & price too. Its helpful sharing ideas on these comments for feed back.

@@JeremySee you're welcome , This is such a lovely instrument though , but still with all these , Kronos , Krome , SP , I had plus various other makes including Nord , it's really difficult to get good organ playing, without waterfall keys . the 61 note are ok , but since using the Roland V Combo I've realised what a difference , drawbars & just 3 basic organs can make , with live effects . I really wish Korg would look at doing some drawbars , they don't really work that well on the Kronos. A small gigging organ , like Yamaha Reface or the Roland V , would be a winner . & not too expensive ..

here I am again , over a year later & still looking at this piano with much longing . those EP sounds are just ....I also bought a little Yamaha YC & it's great for organ , mini keys but a lot of fun & very versatile.

This is a working musicians instrument. If your a keyboard geek, you will only find faults with this unit. If your a blues jazz fan, you will not find one problem with it. I own a SV-2 88 which I play through an Ampeg BA-115. It has as much volume as I need in live & studio settings. The best keybed I have owned and only the sounds I want & use without the geek b/s. Best modern day Rhodes option available. 10/10 Korg.

Agree Organ or synth sounds not very useful for stage pianos; musicians have synth & organ boards that have all the whistles & bells.

Plus the fact that Jeremy seems to be in Singapore, might get more pushback.? I asked the same question and got no answer. But the news is out now. And Jeremy does an excellent job. I hope the truth will not be supressed for much longer.

Particle board is the deal breaker for me. I despise it in virtually every application you might ever see it used. It's super heavy for its offered strength, and there's no way I'd accept it as a main structural surface of my $2K electronic keyboard.

I have a SV2 and it’s awesome in many ways! But there are a few issues:
1: I’m a huge fan of a tacky, crisp and warm Elton John’ish pianosound. Even browsing the editor with tons of pianos and being able to layer 3 sounds,I just can’t find MY pianosound. It sounds a bit plastic. The SV1 actually had better pianos
2: The big church organ sounds sounds AWESOME but when you play faster passages,it just cannot cope and starts to cut. Feels like the 128 polyphony isn’t enough.
3: why is the organ sounds louder than the other sounds?
3: the drive knob only makes the sound louder and you might as well use the volume knob
4: its about time to make editor app for tablets. It’s 2021 and its about time to wake up!
5: the sustainpedal feels like a piece of lego
Dear Korg, you should make a MASSIVE update on the editor. Maybe put in some juicy bread & butter combos.
This instrument is way too good to forget some basic needs
